The engine lubrication system delivers clean oil at the proper temperature and pressure to all engine parts. The oil is pumped from the sump through an oil filter and feeds the main bearings and oil pressure gauge before passing through the crankshaft to the connecting rod bearings. Cylinder walls and piston pins are lubricated by oil flung off the crankshaft, with excess scraped off by piston rings. Camshaft bearings and timing components also receive oil bleeds, and excess oil drains back to the sump to disperse heat to the air.
