The oil cooler adapter gasket connects the engine oil lines to the oil cooler and allows cooled oil to return to the oil pan. A failure of this gasket can allow engine oil or coolant to leak externally or contaminate the other fluid internally. Symptoms of an oil cooler adapter gasket failure include puddles of oil or coolant found under the car, oil present in the coolant system, or coolant in the oil pan. If any of these signs are noticed, the gasket has likely failed and needs to be replaced while flushing the contaminated fluids from the engine.
