2. SOME DIFFERENT
METHODS USED
I have used many methods in an attempt to try and attract and
address my target audience, some of these methods include direct
mode of address, writing about interviews with big and well known
chart artists and by taking photos of models posing as chart artists in
specific clothes with specific hairstyles and make-up.
3. WHAT/ WHO TO WRITE
ABOUT?
Writing about big, current and well known chart artists is a good way of
attracting my target audience. I decided not to write about too many new artists, this
is because my target audience isn’t interested in reading about new upcoming artists
or smaller and not as well recognised artists however this would be different if I
were creating an indie rock magazine because they like to feel a sense of originality
whilst listening to music meaning that they would rather read about smaller bands. I
took my target audience into consideration and decided that including smaller artists
wouldn’t interest them as much as big name artists would; this is because they like to
see themselves and the music they listen to as ‘mainstream’.
4. DIRECT MODE OF
ADDRESS
Direct mode of address is clever way of a addressing your audience as it makes
the reader feel like they are having a conversation with the magazine when words
like ‘you’ are used. If an artist was being interviewed and the word ’you’ was to be
used then this would make the reader feel a connection with them as it’s a personal
pronoun making the reader engaged and want to carry on reading. This is because
they feel that whatever is being said is being directly aimed at them. Most publishers
now use this as it builds up a relationship with the reader and the institution
meaning it enhances them into buying and reading a copy of the magazine when
they see it in the local shop
5. DIFFERENT PLATFORMS OF
MEDIA
A disadvantage of not having your magazine available on different platforms is
that the store of which your ideal target audience shop in may not stock the
magazine. Having the magazine available online would be a good solution to this
problem as online versions of magazines will be cheaper for the audience; this is
because costs such as printing don’t have to be taken into account for therefore the
price will be lower than an actual paper copy. The online version is also more
convenient in today’s society and my target audience are always using their mobile
phones to download things rather than buying a real copy.
7. FRONT COVER MAIN
IMAGE
The main image on my product is also a method I have used to attract
and address my audience as not only do the clothing, hair and make-up
reflect and represent my target audience, I also have used a picture that I
took with the two cover artists looking directly at the camera. This will
make the people who buy the magazine think that they are looking
directly at them, this again helps to create and build on the bond with the
reader as they will be made to feel that they are being addressed directly.
8. WHY I USED A STRAPLINE
As it’s the first thing that the buyer is going to see I knew it was essential to have
as many things on the front cover that will attract my target audience to pick up and
buy the magazine. I did this through the strap line. I made sure that the strapline
would have clear writing on the would stand out alluring the target audience to read
it, another key thing with the strapline was making sure that the actual writing itself
would interesting and something that my ideal target audience would want to read
about therefore attracting them to buy the magazine to read what’s inside.
10. MAIN COVER LINE
Another way that I attracted my audience through my front cover was by using
the main cover line. The reason that the main cover line will help to attract my
target audience is because it’s of interest to the types of people that the magazine is
aimed at. The words are easy to read and it is being used to draw the reader in. I
worded the main cover line carefully as I knew that I wanted someone within my
target audience to walk past the magazine on the shelf and be intrigued and want to
read more. I feel like the main word that does this for me is ‘shocking’ as this will
make the reader want to find out what was so shocking about it meaning that they
will buy a copy of the magazine.
12. HOW I USED MY
MASTHEAD EFFECTIVELY
A different way of also attracting my target audience through the
front cover is by making the masthead stand out. I feel like I did this
well because it isn’t too big that it distracts attention away from the
rest of the front cover and the main image however it is easy to read
and it’s bold.
