5) HOW DID YOU ATTRACT/
ADDRESS YOUR AUDIENCE?
SOME DIFFERENT
METHODS USED
 I did different things to attract and address my target audience to
ensure that they would want to buy and read my magazine. Direct mode
of address was something which we had talked about in class so after
being taught about all of the positive results which could come from
using this method to attract my target audience I felt like incorporating it
into my magazine would be a good idea. I did this through writing about
interviews with chart artists and by taking photos of models posing as
chart artists in specific clothes with specific hairstyles and make-up.
WHAT/ WHO TO WRITE
ABOUT?
 All of the artists that I have talked about or included exclusive interviews with in
my magazine are big and well known chart artists, this will attract my target
audience to want to buy and read my magazine as they are not interested in other
smaller artists but are more interested in the ones who are currently big and have
hits high up in the charts. As my target audience like to see themselves as
‘mainstream’ because of the music they listen to this means that by mostly talking
about big artists who are already well known then my target audience are more likely
to want to pick up my magazine off the shelf.
DIRECT MODE OF
ADDRESS
 I wanted to use direct mode of address on the front cover of my
magazine as I knew that it would make my target audience feel like they
are being personally addressed rather than the usual of just reading a
magazine that doesn’t make you feel like you are involved with it. By using
direct mode of address it also helps to make the reader feel like they have
a relationship with the magazine which is essential to make the target
audience want to repurchase the magazine every month to ensure a profit
on the magazine is made.

 The main image on my product is also a method I have used to attract
and address my audience as not only do the clothing, hair and make-up
reflect and represent my target audience, I also have used a picture that I
took with the two cover artists looking directly at the camera. This will
make the people who buy the magazine think that they are looking
directly at them, this again helps to create and build on the bond with the
reader as they will be made to feel that they are being addressed directly.
WHY I USED A STRAPLINE
 As it’s the first thing that the buyer is going to see I knew it was essential to have
as many things on the front cover that will attract my target audience to pick up and
buy the magazine. I did this through the strap line. I made sure that the strapline
would have clear writing on the would stand out alluring the target audience to read
it, another key thing with the strapline was making sure that the actual writing itself
would interesting and something that my ideal target audience would want to read
about therefore attracting them to buy the magazine to read what’s inside.
MY STRAPLINE
MAIN COVER LINE
 Another way that I attracted my audience through my front cover was by using
the main cover line. The reason that the main cover line will help to attract my
target audience is because it’s of interest to the types of people that the magazine is
aimed at. The words are easy to read and it is being used to draw the reader in. I
worded the main cover line carefully as I knew that I wanted someone within my
target audience to walk past the magazine on the shelf and be intrigued and want to
read more. I feel like the main word that does this for me is ‘shocking’ as this will
make the reader want to find out what was so shocking about it meaning that they
will buy a copy of the magazine.

MASTHEAD EFFECTIVELY
 A different way of also attracting my target audience through the
front cover is by making the masthead stand out. I feel like I did this
well because it isn’t too big that it distracts attention away from the
rest of the front cover and the main image however it is easy to read
and it’s bold.

As my target audience like to see themselves as ‘mainstream’ because of the music they listen to this means that by mostly talking about big artists who are already well known then my target audience are more likely to want to pick up my magazine off the shelf.
  • 4. DIRECT MODE OF ADDRESS  I wanted to use direct mode of address on the front cover of my magazine as I knew that it would make my target audience feel like they are being personally addressed rather than the usual of just reading a magazine that doesn’t make you feel like you are involved with it. By using direct mode of address it also helps to make the reader feel like they have a relationship with the magazine which is essential to make the target audience want to repurchase the magazine every month to ensure a profit on the magazine is made.

FRONT COVER MAIN IMAGE  The main image on my product is also a method I have used to attract and address my audience as not only do the clothing, hair and make-up reflect and represent my target audience, I also have used a picture that I took with the two cover artists looking directly at the camera. This will make the people who buy the magazine think that they are looking directly at them, this again helps to create and build on the bond with the reader as they will be made to feel that they are being addressed directly.

WHY I USED A STRAPLINE  As it’s the first thing that the buyer is going to see I knew it was essential to have as many things on the front cover that will attract my target audience to pick up and buy the magazine. I did this through the strap line. I made sure that the strapline would have clear writing on the would stand out alluring the target audience to read it, another key thing with the strapline was making sure that the actual writing itself would interesting and something that my ideal target audience would want to read about therefore attracting them to buy the magazine to read what’s inside.
  • 9. MAIN COVER LINE  Another way that I attracted my audience through my front cover was by using the main cover line. The reason that the main cover line will help to attract my target audience is because it’s of interest to the types of people that the magazine is aimed at. The words are easy to read and it is being used to draw the reader in. I worded the main cover line carefully as I knew that I wanted someone within my target audience to walk past the magazine on the shelf and be intrigued and want to read more. I feel like the main word that does this for me is ‘shocking’ as this will make the reader want to find out what was so shocking about it meaning that they will buy a copy of the magazine.

  • 11. HOW I USED MY MASTHEAD EFFECTIVELY  A different way of also attracting my target audience through the front cover is by making the masthead stand out. I feel like I did this well because it isn’t too big that it distracts attention away from the rest of the front cover and the main image however it is easy to read and it’s bold.
