V 1 presentation on safety aspects of lpg handling and storageImran Bokhari
Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) is a mixture of Propane and Butanes, with Propane content of 30 to 60 percent and Butanes content of 40 to 70 percent. LPG can exist in liquid state at moderate pressure at ambient temperature. It is colorless, odorless, highly volatile and heavier than air (even at ambient conditions) substance. It easily forms combustible/explosive mixture when released in air, thus posing unique safety issues. Besides being a combustible substance posing fire hazard, LPG due to its nature also poses threats of cold burns and suffocation. LPG is being extensively used as fuel in homes, restaurants, transportation and some industries. In this presentation we have discussed in detail a major HSE related incident that have occurred in the past and mitigation strategies for the same. The required safety devices and their engineering design features in LPG extraction plant to avoid accidents are also discussed.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

11. EXPIRY DATE OF LPG. CYLINDER
HOW TO READ THE EXPIRY DATE OF A L.P.G CYLINDER>
THE METHOD IS AS FOLLOWS:-
SEE THE 3 VERTICAL PLATES AT THE TOP IN ANY ONE OF THESE YOU WILL FIND
A / x or B /x or C/x or D /x
where ‘x’ is the last 2-digit of a year.
WHAT DOES A,B,C,D MEAN?
A--- JANUARY TO MARCH
B---- APRIL TO JUNE
C---- JULY TO SEPTEMBER
D---- OCTOBER TO DECEMBER
New introduced:
•Like 06-23
•Means June 2023
12. EXPIRY DATE OF L.P.G. CYLINDER
SEE THE PICTURE HERE WE SEE AS: B-12
AS ‘B’ STANDS FOR APRIL TO JUNE
IT MEANS THE CYLINDER WILL EXPIRE ON 1st APRIL IN THE YEAR 2012.
IF WE SEE THAT D-09 IS WRITTEN
THEN IT MEANS THE CYLINDER IS EXPIRED ON
1st October of 2009.
THIS WAY WE CAN KNOW THE EXPIRY DATE OF A
L.P.G CYLINDER
13. Hazard & Risk:
Catch fire very easily.
Suffocation / asphyxiate at high concentrations
Run for long distances along the ground
and can collect in drains or basements.
Gas meets a source of ignition it can burn or
explode
Evaporating liquid can cause cold burns to the
skin or frostbite, as it evaporates at -42°C
Cylinders can explode if involved in a fire.
LPG (Propane) is considered non-toxic so LPG
gas leak effects are not an issue of toxicity.
14. LPG AREA BULK TANKER FILLING:
Check the condition of tanker before filling
The tanker should be made to stand at the filling point
with ignition cut off and key kept inside the cabin
The driver should be available near the truck
The wooden edge must be placed under the truck
Connect the earth connection to the body of the truck
Connect the hoses to the liquid and the vapour outlets of the truck
Open the outlet valve of the storage truck
Pressurize the tanker with compressor, (open valve no. 4, 7, 8 and close valve no, 5, 6, 8 of the
compressor at Emarat)
Start the compressor and load the truck till it is 85% full
Turn the compressor off, close all valves vent and remove the hoses.
Disconnect the earthing and release the truck
15. Precautions LPG Cylinders Filling Do & Don’ts
•Switch off power if carrying any maintenance / Repair
•Keep clothes, chain, body parts at a safe distance from movable parts of the plant
•Always replace safety covers after carrying out service
•Use only brass hammer to opening vehicle door
•Don’t sit, ride or walk on the plant (Conveyor)
•Don’t push the cylinder on the chain
•Don’t hit the cylinder each other
•Don’t roll the cylinder
•Don’t throw stickers & Rubbish into conveyor track
•Don’t block path of cylinders
•Don’t sit on cylinder
•Don’t wear jewellery or any
loose Clothing
•Wear Proper PPE;s
16. In case of fire in Gantry
• Press ESD
• Close pipeline control valve
• Close Truck emergency valve
• Press emergency / fire alarm
• Shout ‘’Fire’’ ‘’ Fire’’
• Inform shift in-charge
• Fight fire available fire extinguishers if possible
17. Manual Handling
What is manual handling?
Manual handling refers to any activity requiring the use of force
by a person to lift, lower, push, pull, hold or restrain something.
supporting a load by hand or bodily force
Proper Lifting Technique: TILE
Keep a wide base of support.
Squat down, bending at the hips and knees only.
Keep good posture.
Slowly lift by straightening your hips and knees (not your back).
Hold the load as close to your body as possible, at the level of
your belly button.
Use your feet to change direction, taking small steps.
the maximum weight a person should lift 25kg.

19. QUIZ
3. If a compressed gas cylinder is damaged it must be:
A. Repaired by a certified welder
B. Returned to the manufacturer
C. Placed back in storage
D. Placed upside down
4. Storage of Compressed gas cylinders must be:
A. In upright positions

D. All of the above
5. Empty and full gas cylinders cannot be stored together unless:
A. They are the same gas
B. They are the same size
C. They are stored on their side
D. None of the above
20. Why LPG Tankers are round shape
Then the question is why there are some tanks which have circular section.
In fact for vessels which contain pressurized liquids or gases like LPG or PNG,
the circular section is the most efficient section which gives maximum
strength against internal pressure.
