This lesson plan aims to teach students about the elements of poetry through analyzing Rudyard Kipling's poem "If". The objectives are for students to give antonyms of words, identify poetic elements, and explain the meaning of the poem. 1. The teacher will ask the student to think of a song with the word “If.”
If the student will able to think of a lyric the teacher will ask what it signals. If the
student will not be able to give the teacher will be the one to give.
Some lines of songs with “if” include the following:
 If I could reach you, I wish I could ...
 If a picture paints a thousand words ...
 If we both decide to try and make it one more time...
2. The teacher will explain the meaning of the word “if”.
B. During-reading
1. The teacher reads the poem If by Rudyard Kipling orally.
2. The student will read it afterwards.
