This Supplementary Intervention Material in English Grammar is a comprehensive and practical material which is primarily designed to improve the competence of the freshmen students of Bacnotan National High School in the area of grammar. It aims to strengthen the grammatical competence of the students for independent acquisition of knowledge for academic study which is their tool for effective communication, both in oral and in written communication.
As an intervention material, this assists students to acquire competence in grammar as they put into practical use the different lessons therein. It contains plentiful exercises for practice and reinforcement. Activities are presented in a creative fashion graded to suit the different learning abilities of the students and every effort was made by the author to contextualize, localize and indigenize the different activities to make the learning of English grammar easier and enjoyable. The author believes that a learner understands concepts and acquires skills if lessons are within his experience.
It is then the author’s greatest hope that this supplementary intervention material will enable learners to become competent in the use of English language.

The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. I. Instructional Objectives:

Gender
-is one of the categories (masculine, feminine, common and neuter) into
which words (such as nouns, adjectives and pronouns) are divided in many
languages.
Types of Gender of Noun
1. Masculine gender- A noun is said to be masculine gender if it refers to a
male character or member of a species.
Examples:
a. A boy is playing in the play-ground.

2. Feminine gender- It actually refers to a female member of a species, woman,
lioness, girl, mare, empress, cow and actress are few of the feminine gender that

c. 3. Common gender- It refers to a member of a species which can be a
male or a female. Child, student, friend, applicant, candidate, member,
leader and servant are few of the common-gender nouns.

4. Neuter gender- It refers to a member or referring to objects are in neuter
nouns. Chair, paper, pencil, computer, tree, star, mountain, book, car and school
are few of the neuter nouns which we use regularly.

Gender is one of the categories of nouns which consist of types such as
masculine, feminine, common and neuter. These gender types of noun help
categorized nouns in giving emphasis and characteristics of persons and objects.
