A Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan in English III
                                       Remedial Instruction

    I.      Objectives
            At the end of the lesson the student is expected to:
                    identify the two main characters in the story;
                    analyze characterization by determining what a character is and does from the
                    character’s words, actions, and the author’s description of the character; and,
                    relate the situation in the story with a situation in her life.

    II.     Subject Matter
                  Focus: The Young Terrorist by Anonymous
                  Materials: copy of the story, visual aids
                  Skill: Reading

    III.    Procedure
            A. Pre-reading
               1. Motivation
                   Have you ever tried to be away from your family? How long was it? How
                   does it feel?
               2. Vocabulary Development
                   Write as many words as you can which you associate or which you think is
                   related to the given words:
                           Terrorist
                           Soldier

            B. During-reading
            The teacher will give a copy of the story to the student.
            The student will read it silently.

            C. Post-reading
               For comprehension response the teacher will ask the ff. questions:
               1. Who are the two main characters in the story?
               2. How would you describe the two characters?
               3. In what ways the two characters distinct from each other?
               4. In what ways they are similar?
               5. Do you think the terrorist made the right decision when he mailed the
                  soldier’s letter?
               6. If you were the terrorist would you do the same?
               7. If you were the soldier would you leave your family for the same reason?

IV.     Evaluation
            In your quiz notebook:
                Write soldier if the statement is true, write terrorist if it is false.
            _____1. The terrorist found an unmailed letter in the soldier’s pocket.
            _____2. The letter is for the soldier’s girlfriend.
            _____3. The name of the terrorist is Arnold
            _____4. The soldier was killed by the terrorists.
            _____5. The soldier was able to come home during Christmas.

    V.      Assignment
            In your assignment notebook:

                The terrorist after reading the soldier’s letter to his family had his realizations and
            reflections and in an instant changed his ideology and his beliefs. We call that a
            paradigm shift, now think of a situation in your life when you had your paradigm
            shift. What was it? Write a composition about it. You may write whatever title you
            please but with the theme “the paradigm shift of my life”.
