Practical work is probably the main reason why students choose to do Media Studies, but you will be spending a considerable amount of time learning about, amongst other things; ‘reading’ the media Institutions Audiences Ideology Representation Genre Narrative
- 3. It all links together… So when you undertake the practical production side of the course there is suddenly a reason for it all and a chance to demonstrate skills, understanding and creativity.
- 4. Time is money At the beginning of your first attempt at the Foundation production (note how I said first attempt )you will probably feel that you have plenty of time before your piece is due and that there is ample time for thinking and experimenting – AVOID THESE THOUGHTS. In this scenario too much ‘inspiration time’ is wasted on thinking and not doing and then everything becomes a rush job and looks dodgy!
- 5. Context of portfolio ‘The purpose of the unit is for candidates to demonstrate a range of technical skills and understanding of media concepts by the construction of a media text. Candidates also record and monitor the production process and demonstrate evaluation, from planning to outcomes in the production log’ (your blog). From the OCR exam board.
