Love Definition Essay Examples
Writing an essay on the topic of "Love Definition Essay Examples" can be a challenging
endeavor. Love, being a complex and abstract concept, requires a deep understanding and
nuanced exploration to effectively convey its essence. Crafting an essay on this topic involves
delving into various perspectives, theories, and personal experiences to provide comprehensive
examples that elucidate the multifaceted nature of love.
One of the primary challenges is navigating the vast array of interpretations and definitions of
love across cultures, philosophies, and disciplines. From romantic love to platonic love, familial
love to self-love, each manifestation carries its own unique characteristics and implications.
Balancing these diverse viewpoints while maintaining coherence and clarity in the essay requires
meticulous research and thoughtful analysis.
Furthermore, the subjective nature of love adds another layer of complexity to the writing
process. Attempting to capture the intangible emotions and complexities associated with love in
a structured essay format can be daunting. It necessitates introspection, empathy, and the ability
to convey personal insights while also acknowledging the diversity of human experiences with
love.
Additionally, finding suitable examples to illustrate the various facets of love can pose a
challenge. Whether drawing from literature, history, psychology, or personal anecdotes, selecting
examples that resonate with readers and effectively support the essay's arguments requires
discernment and creativity.
Despite these challenges, writing an essay on the topic of "Love Definition Essay Examples" can
be a rewarding experience. It offers an opportunity for self-reflection, intellectual engagement,
and the exploration of one of the most profound aspects of the human experience.
In conclusion, crafting an essay on the complexities of love demands careful consideration,
research, and creativity to effectively convey its multifaceted nature. While challenging, the
process of exploring different perspectives and examples of love can lead to a deeper
understanding of this universal phenomenon.

Rhetorical Analysis Of Into The Wild, By Jon Krakauer
Author V.S. Naipaul once said, What I felt was, if you spend your life just writing
fiction, you are going to falsify your material. I thought nonfiction gave one a
chance to explore the world, the other world, the world that one didn t know fully.
John Krakauer s Into the Wild is a biography that covers a man s attempt to live life
off the grid and stray from the societal norms of mid nineties America in order to
achieve enlightenment. Throughout the story, the readers follow Chris McCandless
as he travels across the country, discovers new locations, and encounters new
experiences in search of happiness, peace, and solitude. As the reader approaches the
middle of the story, they realize an important relationship beginning to manifest
between... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He explains how he was torn between quitting his job, which was necessary for the
income, or continuing to venture into the wild, searching for new places to climb.
Krakauer never had any doubt that climbing the Devil s Thumb would transform
his life. How could it not? (135). This technique of rhetorical questioning requires
the reader to think of Krakauer s options and aims to make the readers predict
where Krakauer his headed, leaving his job in search for climbing opportunities.
After Krakauer clues the reader about his future plans, he then goes on to tell them
of the day he quit his job. He writes the next few sentences in problem solution
format, noting ...after nine hours of humping two by tens and driving sixteen penny
nails, I told my boss I was quitting (135,136). This concise problem solution
sentence format notifies the reader that Krakauer was sure of his decision to quit his
job. He did not need much time to think about this life changing decision, assuring
the readers that he has been waiting for this lifestyle of adventure and freedom.
Simply put, Krakauer and McCandless both operate on whims and are sure of their
The Traditional American Family
The traditional American family can be traced back to the aggressive marketing in
the 1950 s. The image of a white, middle class family owning a moderate sized
home with a well kept lawn. The father is the head of the household who would
teach his kids all the life lessons and be the only source of income by working a
white collar, corporate job. The mother would stay at home in a full skirt and heels
looking after the kids, preparing meals, and taking care of the house. The kids,
usually two, would be well behaved and well dressed. This view of the familyis
narrow and rigid, but through aggressive media portrayals has come to be viewed
as normal and ideal. Shows such as Leave it to Beaver and Father knows best
reinforced that idea of a good family eating together at dinner, praying together, and
being proud of the nation. Today, that ideal family image still holds its place in
today s culture, but there has been a dramatic shift from that ideal to a more
diverse representation of the American family. The tradition family has become a
sort of fairy tale that can never be achieved. It is now more common to see both
parents working to support the family, more women are breaking into the workforce
and even fathers are staying home to be the caretaker. A closer look at the data from
suggests the traditional family ideal failed to be widely accepted and instead media
outlets are scrambling to capture the image of the modern family.

Horace Mann Analysis
Horace Mann, known as the father of American public education , wrote the policy
document Report of the Massachusetts Board of Education, that claims
Massachusetts s school education is becoming unequal among the citizens. Mann
develops his argument by using European and American values of men, and how
society functions with men that have been treated as equals. Mann s purpose was to
discuss the problems in Massachusetts s educationsystem in order to inform his
audience and persuade a change. Mann s audience assumes an audience that would be
government workers or officials because of his message of changing the education
system.
I agree with Horace Mann, education is vital in society and determines how it
functions. If certain groups of people do not receive equal education than others, then
society will change and more poverty, unemployment, and more inequality will
increase. The President of Bard College, Leon Botstein, wrote the opinion piece Let
Teenagers Try Adulthood (1999), argues that American high schools should be
abolished. Botstein uses school cliques and brain development to develop the
argument. The author s purpose was to argue that high school are dangerous to kids
mental health and the school system should be modified in order to keep children
safe from wrong ideas that are often present in high schools. The audience of the
opinion article are school officials and people who have the power to change the
educational system.
I agree with Botstein that
Crude Oil Essay
Crude Oil
Crude oil is a complex mixture of hydrocarbon molecules formed over millions of
years when the remains of microscopic sea creatures trapped in sediments were
converted by heat and pressure into crude oil.
The most abundant of these mixtures are the ones containing hydrogen and carbon
only. These hydrocarbons can take on a number of different forms, i.e. alkanes,
alkenes and alkynes. They vary in size and shape and viscosity. By manipulating
these chains of hydrocarbons you can create any number of useful substances as they
are very adaptable. However there are lots of compounds that also contain some of
the following; oxygen, sulphur or nitrogen. The purer hydrocarbon ... Show more

These separate fractions can now be distilled again if necessary to get the useful
materials out of the fraction. The fractions are separated as follows:
В· The crude oil is vaporised by heating it before it reaches the fractionating column
В· The vaporised crude oil is feed into the bottom of the column.
В· Steel trays divide the column and the crude oil vapour rises up through holes in
the trays.
В· The temperature gradient between the bottom of the column to the bottom
(progressively cooler upwards) means that as the vapour passes through a tray it
comes into contact with the cooler liquid on that layer and some of the hydrocarbon
chains condense.
В· This leaves the rest of the vapour to continue rising until they reach their respective
levels.
The distillation continues as above until 40 or 50 condenses have taken place then
there is enough of each level to remove the separate fractions. In industry there is a
careful balance to the amount of crude oil allowed in at the bottom of the tower at a
time so that the fractions can be removed repeatedly without interrupting the process.
The fractions are removed in the following order from the bottom (hottest) and the
list also shows what can be done with each substance or how it can be used.

What Is The Theme Of Society In Fahrenheit 451
As society progresses, technology and customs often progress proportionally. Social
customs, and the way a group of people function as a whole are often altered by
significant events or a change in societal variables. Occasionally, this leads to
situations in which certain facets of society begin to drastically differ from their
original form. Take for example, the abolition of slavery in the United States in 1865.
Slavery had been a vastly unchallenged component of American society until that
point (excluding the period of abolition efforts). When this changed, the government
had to implement a number of laws that reversed prior legislation concerning slavery.
In many ways, Ray Bradburys fictional society in his dystopian novel, Fahrenheit 451
mirrors this by presenting a repressive community in which many factors contribute
to mass apathy and a passive state of perpetual passive occupation. Social contact is
central to human happiness, but as our technology increases in its proficiency, there
tends to be a disconnect in interpersonal contact. This feature of society is predicted
64 years ahead of time, and is highlighted frequently throughout the book, manifested
in Mildred s ear seashells and talking walls for entertainment. On a walk with
Montag, Clarisse mentions that she is often ostracized from her peers due to her
antisocial tendencies. However, the audience must pause to consider what she means
by antisocial here to fully grasp the gravity and relevance of her

large reptiles, hailing from the order Crocodylia, easily weigh A ton, and dawn the

The First Commander I Will Talk About Is Heinrich
Himmler
There were many leaders in the Waffen SS, such as Heinrich Himmler, Joseph
Dietrich, Paul Hausser, Theodor Eicke, Felix Steiner, Kurt Meyer and Joachim
Peiper. And I researched the 4 leaders mainly: Heinrich Himmler, Joseph Dietrich,
Felix Steiner and Paul Hausser. The first commander I will talk about is Heinrich
Himmler. Figure.1 Himmler in early SS uniform
Heinrich Himmler was a ceremonial chief of the Waffen SS, a leading member of the
Nazi Party, and Himmler was the one of the most powerful men in Nazi Germany
and one of the persons most directly responsible for the Holocaust. Himmler joined
the party in 1923, and he was not a powerful leader at that time. Upon the
resignation of the SS leader Erhard Heiden, Himmler was assumed as a commander
of the SS by Hitler s approval, and he carried out his duties at propaganda
headquaters. His first responsibility was to organize SS participants, and over the
next year, and he made the SS force bigger, 290 men to about 3000 men. And after
a few years, in 1943, Himmler became a main architect of the Holocaust, after
Hitler finally resolved to kill the Jews. Holocaust generally means a large scale
massacre, but it is also known as a large scale massacre of Jewish people in World
War2. Holocaust first became known by Himmler s speech. To summarize the
Posen speech, Himmler said I want to address here a very difficult subject, in all
openness before you. It shall be addressed among us, not in public... I am now

Essay Comparing Women In Hell-Heaven And
Unaccustomed Earth
Male migrants adapt to a new environment more easily than female do. This is
shown by two women in different stories: Hell Heaven and Unaccustomed Earth . For
men, moving to another country is a great chance to advance their career, whereas
women tend to struggle with building a new relationship with others and have less
opportunity to experience distinct cultures in a different country. As women spend
most of their time at home especially when they are in a new environment, they are
more likely to feel lonely.
The vast majority of female immigrants do not work as there are many barriers to
find a suitable job for them, for example, visas and languages. Therefore, women
are less exposed to a society than men. This reduces the chance of interacting with
new people. In Unaccustomed Earth , after Ruma s mother moved to a foreign
place for the marriage, she lived without any friend. She did not try to make a friend
and just scarified her life only for family. In Hell Heaven , Boudi was also similar as
Ruma. She was not close with the neighbor Mrs Holcomb who saved her life. ... Show

On the other hand, since women mostly spend their time at home, they hardly
hear, see and speak the language and experience other cultures. In addition, as they
have less opportunity to actually use the language, they often fail to see the
necessity of learning and have less motivation of learning. These barriers block
them to adapt in a new place well. In Hell Heaven , Boudi hardly spoke English
and could not understand people who live in where she lives. For example, clothes
that Deborah wore and what Deborah did to her daughter. Therefore, she did not
enjoy living outside of where she is

Power of the Mother and Daughter Relationship Amy Tan s Joy Luck Club
In the novel, The Joy Luck Club, the author, Amy Tan, intricately weaves together the
roles and experiences of Chinese mothers with their American born daughters. During
a time of war, the mothers flee from China to America, leaving behind a past filled
with secrets that unravel as their daughters mature. While sharing their difficulties,
these mothers must be able to teach Chinese beliefs and customs to their daughters in
a way that relates to American society. However, this is difficult because the
daughters seek to identify themselves with their own American culture. A lack of
understanding and knowledge amongst these societies exists between the mothers and

I [am] pure. I [have] genuine thoughts inside that no one [can] see, that no one [can]
ever take away from me. I [am] like the wind, (Tan 53). This makes her invisible,
strong, and assertive. As demonstrated throughout the novel, the strongest wind
cannot be seen, (Tan 89). She had escaped without leaving a trace behind her.
As the daughters grow, they portray certain characteristics similar to their mothers.
Once Waverly learns how to play chess and competes against former champions, she
uses her wind , which she inherited from her mother, to win all the games. She states:
...I would clasp my hands under my chin... in the delicate manner my mother had
shown me for posing for the press. I would...twirl my chosen piece in midair as if
undecided, and then firmly plant it in its new threatening place, with a triumphant
smile [on my face], (Tan 100). Here Waverly uses her strong and invisible wind to
outsmart her opponents. Although she does not realize it now, Waverly has inherited
her mother s characteristic of being an invisible, yet influential woman.
Because the daughters do not understand what qualities they have inherited, they
have become distant from their mothers. Trying to teach their daughters to strive for
excellence only pushes them away. Suyuan Woo, another mother in the novel, and
Lindo unceasingly compete amongst each other to determine whose daughter exhibits
the most talent. In a conversation between these mothers, Lindo boasts:

Honestly, it seems a bit anticlimactic that after all the emotions and preparation you

During high school you form both positive and negative relationships with people
and learn a various assortment of life lessons. If I challenged myself to choose my
top three picks on what life lessons I have learned I would say freedom,
responsibility, and tolerance. I say that I have learned the lesson of freedom
simply owing to the fact that this was my first taste of freedom. When you receive
your driver s license and car or you are able to date for the first time you feel the
absolutely exhilarating unbridled feeling of freedom. This feeling blossoms and
flourishes for only a moment, because then it has company. Freedom is joined by the
always rational and logical emotion responsibility. Responsibility is like the
notification that forces you to go home in time for your curfew or the friend you
forces you to stop at the stop sign or to not drink and drive. When freedom and
responsibility work together, you are safe and you also have a great time growing
up. When the two emotions combine together your chances of living to adulthood
increase dramatically. The last life lesson I chose is most definitely not the least
important. I have become more tolerant of not only people and their decisions but
also with circumstances. This was not only the most difficult lesson I have had to
learn, but it is the lesson that I am most thankful for due to the fact that I know that I
will use it more and more frequently as I enter into the real world .

Advantages and Disadvantages of Going Public through the IPO Process
Advantages * The partners can obtain a true value of the shares they possess in the
company* Partners can remove their signatures from the lines of credit and thus,
are no longer personally liable to the creditors* The overall financial condition of a
company is improved as it brings in non refundable money* A broader capital base
gives the company more access to credit which gives the company an option to
venture into new business opportunities * Capital raised in an IPO can be used to
pay off debt and thus reduce the interest costs and enhance the company s debt to
equity ratio * The value of the stock may see an upward trend thus increasing the
initial investor s financial wealth * When a company goes public, it attracts the
attention of the media and financial community thus providing free publicity and
helps in creating a better corporate image * By going public and listing on a stock
exchange it can directly foster public reputation in general Disadvantages * The
market is extremely unpredictable and an unsuccessful IPO can result in a great
loss of time as well as money for the company * The ownership of the partners is
dissolved and they become mere employees who are responsible to the shareholders
and Board of Directors * Continuous dealing with shareholders

The Causes Of Teen Dating Violence
Teen Dating Violence
Adolescence is a tough stage in growing up. We are still young but at the same
maturing physically, psychologically, and emotionally. Our bodies go through
hormonal changes.
Teen dating violence is defined as the physical, sexual, psychological, or emotional
violence within a dating relationship, including stalking (National Center for Injury
Prevention and Control). Physical abuse is hitting, punching, slapping, shoving, and
kicking. Emotional abuse are threatening, name calling, insults, yelling, embarrassing
on purpose, stalking, bullying, and/or keeping partner away from friends and family
(National Center for Injury Prevention and Control). Sexual abuse is unwanted
kissing or touching and forcing them to engage in sexual acts (Children s Safety
Network). It is one of the biggest problems among youth and a public health concern.
Dating violence is traumatic at any age but is more severe during the teenage years.
What causes teen dating violence? The biggest reason that triggers teenage dating
violence is the inability to manage anger and frustration. When both people in the
relationship are arguing, it usually turns hostile when it starts with yelling at each
other then maybe one physically hurts the other. The most common case is when the
abuser in the relationship is always angry at his or her partner no matter how big or
small the issue that they are angry about. Other factors for teen dating violence
perpetration are
The Conservation Of Endangered Species
Ever since the beginning of creation, species of animals have gone extinct. The most
notable in history were the dinosaurs and the dodo bird. Now, in recent years it has
been the Bali tiger, West African black rhinoceros, American cheetah and hundreds of
others. In the last century, the rate of extinction has been accelerated to an estimated
level that is ten thousand times greater than natural levels. Currently in the United
States at least one third of native animals are at an increased risk of extinctionand
over half of those are federally listed as endangered. With the Endangered Species
Perseveration Act of 1966 passed under President Nixon, the government made its
first move to offer protection to endangered species. Since then, every president,
including Ronald Regan, Jimmy Carter and Gerald Ford, have included the
protection of endangered animals, as part of their domestic policy. With the passage
of numerous restrictive laws and the spending of billions of dollars, the question has
been raised many times whether the government has a duty to offer protection to
endangered species. I say that the government should protect endangered animals.
One objector might say that for the amount of money, energy and time the
government has spent to protect endangered species, they have had very little
success. The United States spends an average of $1.7 billion yearly, money that
comes mostly from taxpayers, to help run their expensive programs. To show for it

The Concept Of Requirements Traceability
1. THE CONCEPT OF REQUIREMENTS TRACEABILITY
According to IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), Requirements
traceability refers to the ability to define, capture and follow the traces left by
requirements on other elements of the software development environment and the
trace left by those elements on requirements.
In general, traceability is a process of inter relating the different requirements
identified by the stakeholders at different levels of software development life cycle
and various project artifacts. This inter relation is used to establish the scenarios of
a specific use case within a system or application and test those scenarios using test
cases. In any software development project, requirements should be easily traceable
and for this, the origin of the requirements should be clear to follow.
In other words, Requirements traceability is the ability to capture the traces of
requirements within a system or between the integrated systems during its
development life cycle. Traceability is required to manage changes at various stages
of the SDLC and is a part of Requirements Management
2. MODES OF REQUIREMENTS TRACEABILITY
There are different modes to perform requirements analysis based on the direction,
before/after Requirements Specification phase of a project and the relationship
between elements such as requirements and artifacts.
2.1 Forward and Backward Requirements Traceability
Bidirectional Requirements traceability
Fortuna Primigenia Research Paper
The Temple of Fortuna Primigenia is a vast concrete sanctuary that sits within a
large mountainside. The entire structure was installed on four platforms. These
platforms acted as colossal steps up the hillside (Moffett 110). Both a set of ramps
and a long, tall staircase linked each step . The templeitself is symmetrical and has an
axial plan; both right and left sides are exactly mirrored. As you walk up to the
structure, you must take in the different geometries of the sanctuary. The first shape
is a large triangle that is mildly extruded. Large staircases run up to this upward

Is Hypnosis Fake
centuries
Hypnosis essay
What I think about Hypnosis is that it is fake. These are the reasons why I think
that Hypnosis is fake. One reason is that if someone let s just say, tells you to act
like a chicken while they hypnotize you, you are probably not going to act like a
chicken, but there is a chance that you could act like a chicken. One of the reasons I
think that hypnosis is fake is because like there is proof that is real buts like what if
behind the scenes they tell each other what they are going to say and stuff and then
they say bark like a dog so the person just barks like a dog. But if it was real because
there are ways like with people who smoke they went to some place and got
hypnotized and then they stopped smoking.

Also, it s a fact that not everyone is susceptible to hypnosis. Some people seem to
possess a trait called hypnotizability that, like other traits, varies greatly among
individuals. To be successfully hypnotized, a person must want to undergo the
process voluntarily and also possess at least a moderate degree of hypnotizability.
Even highly hypnotizable people may not benefit from hypnotherapy, and a single
session of hypnosis usually does not produce lasting results. Often, a person will
have to undergo a series of hypnotic procedures to reinforce whatever constructive
suggestions may be given. The most frequent clinical uses of hypnosis include:
breaking bad habits, overcoming insomnia, recalling forgotten experiences, and as
an anesthetic for managing pain. You can easily test the benefits of self hypnosis.
Simply sit or lie down and get comfortable in a quiet setting. Then, close your eyes
and take in a few deep breaths, slowly, in and out. This places many people into a
mild trance and a state of comfortable relaxation. In this state, say some optimistic

Mockingbird Symbolism
In the historical fiction novel To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee creates many
characters that demonstrate heroic qualities. It is the setting of the Great
Depression Era and 6 year old Jean Louise Finch (Scout) is being raised by her dad,
Atticus, and her brother, Jem. Atticus is a fair lawyer who was chosen to take up
the case of Tom Robinson. Their lives were put in danger because Atticus defended
a Negro. Harper Lee showed the effects of racism and prejudice in everyday life.
Harper Lee s story title includes the word ВЁmockingbirdВЁ. The mockingbird is a
sign of symbolism in the story. The mockingbird represents innocence. Tom Robinson
and Boo Radley (the mysterious neighbor) are the ВЁmockingbirds in this story.
Atticus is a hero in To Kill a Mockingbirdfor his bravery and showing of equality.
Atticus put all of his effort in Tom Robinson s trial although he knew that there
was no chance of winning. Atticus told his son Jem, I wanted you to see what real
courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand.
It s when you know you re licked before you begin anyway and you see it through
no matter what. You rarely win, but sometimes you do. Atticus was talking to Jem
about Mrs. Dubose because Jem had read to her everyday before she passed away.
Atticus explained to Jem what real courage was and the topic shifted to the court case
with Tom Robinson. Atticus knows there is no chance of winning, but he still tried
his best. Atticus is fair
Black Footed Penguins Lab Report
Exploring Braying in the African Black Footed Penguin
The African black footed, Galapagos, Humboldt, and Magellanic penguins are all
members of the Spheniscus family. Sharing common ancestry, these penguins share
very similar morphological traits as well as behavioral traits. In order to try to
determine what makes each of these species different, scientist in the field have
turned to studying vocal repertoires of each penguin that is a part of the Spheniscus
family. It has been concluded that although the Spheniscus demersus, commonly
named the African black footed penguin, has similarly behaving relatives in the
Spheniscus family, it is only the black footed penguin that not only uses the braying
vocalization for breeding, but during ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Different types of calls are made possible by an organ in the penguin s throat called
the syrinx. Each species syrinx differs slightly allowing different calls to be made. A
study was conducted by Nina Thumser and Millicent Ficken that proved each species
calls differ in the number of syllables, length, and frequency. This is why a
recommended method used to classify the behavior of penguins is to understand and
identify vocalizations. The African penguin had the greatest maximum frequency of
the longest syllable when comparing it to the braying in Humboldt and Magellanic
penguins. In addition, during mating seasons both sexes of African penguins will
contribute their own bray call, however, in species such as the Spheniscus
mendiculus commonly known as the Galapagos penguin, it s mainly the males who
bray when breeding. The African penguin also brays more frequently because they
are more likely to display aggression via braying. because in a study, also done by
Nina Thumser and Millicent Ficken, it was discovered that African Penguins are
more aggressive towards each other than other Spheniscus penguins were towards
other members.
The African black footed penguin is unique, as in comparison to its Spheniscus
family relatives due to its extensive use of the braying call. These uses developed as
a result of behaviors and the lifestyle seen in the African penguin that are not as
clearly seen in its Galapagos, Magellanic, and Humboldt relatives. The harsh, loud,
sharp, and intense sound of the bray has developed to benefit the penguin. Without it
the species would not be successful in reproduction, establishing territory, or locating
other members of the
Newton s Three Laws Of Motion
Newton s Three Laws of Motion
Timmo Wooldridge
11/18/2015
Sir Isaac Newton s laws of motion are three physical laws that made the foundation
for modern mechanics. They describe the relationship between the body and the
forces upon it, and it s response to the motion. Sir Isaac Newton was one of the
greatest scientists and mathematicians that ever lived, born in England on
December 25, 1643, the same year that Galileo died. He went to Trinity college in
Cambridge. While he was in college, Newton had new ideas about motion, which
he called Newton s three laws of motion. He also had ideas about gravity, the
diffraction of light, and forces. His ideas were so great that in 1705, Queen Anne
knighted him. What Newton s three laws of motion, and what did they do? Newton s
laws made the foundation for modern science and changed the world.
Newton s first law of motion states that An object at rest will remain at rest unless
acted on by an unbalanced force. An object in motion continues in motion with the
same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force. (
Newton s 3 Laws of Motion ) This means that objects that are already moving tend
to stay moving. If there is an unbalanced force than it will affect the motion. There
are two parts to this statement. One that predicts what the behavior of stationary
objects will be, and the other part that predicts the behavior of moving objects. The
way of all objects can be described by saying that
Assignment On The Pigman
The Pigman Assignment
Provide a brief intro in which you identify the character whose life became brighter
once the Pigman entered it:
According to the text, John s life became brighter once the pigman entered it. This is
because in the beginning of the book, John is the kind of person who played pranks
on people, such as the Pigman, and drank alcohol or smoked all day. But as things
develop John discovers that Mr. Pignati is so incredibly nice and genuine and
trusting that John finds it hard to trick the Pigman without feeling guilty. Finally by
the end of the book, John finally gets a job, and for the time, in a long time, John is
unselfish again.
Establish that your character had a poor relationship with his or her parents (provide
text details!)
John finds in the Pigman something so much needed by him and so denied by his
own parents that he finds it hard not to change. This is because John does not get
along with his parents, especially his father, who he calls the Bore. One major
source of friction between John and his dad is John s dream of becoming an actor.
When John tries to tell his father that he doesn t want to wear a suit and carry an
attachГ© case, and repeatedly says, I want to be me, his dad ignores and
discourages his dreams, and says to him Thank God Kenneth isn t a lunatic (7).

As you can see replicators played a huge part in creating life. How did replicators lead
to the first cell though? If replicators are meant to replicate and reproduce how did
they end up making a living organism? The first cell is presumed to have arisen by
the enclosure of self replicating RNA in a membrane composed of phospholipids
which are the principal components of cell membranes. The process of replication
lead to the first cell which is called LUCA (Last Universal Common Ancestor).
Many scientist believe that all living things on earth originated from an ancient
organism called LUCA. The single celled being likely lived about 4 billion years ago

A lot of the time when a virus come into contact with the host or as we may know it,
the cell, it can insert its genetic material into its host, literally taking over the host s
functions. Some viruses may remain dormant inside host cells for long periods,
causing no obvious change in their host cells, but once stimulated new viruses are
formed, self assemble, and burst out of the host cell, killing the cell and going on to
infect other cells. All this is just a constant battle between the host and cell. Without a
host cell, viruses cannot carry out their life sustaining functions or reproduce. They
cannot synthesize proteins, because they lack ribosomes and must use the ribosomes
of their host cells to translate viral messenger RNA into viral proteins. Viruses cannot
generate or store energy, but have to derive their energy, and all other metabolic
functions, from the host cell. Sometimes the virus will not be in the cell but outside

Doodle Armstrong Death Analysis
Your honor, we all have our different opinions about the death of Doodle
Armstrong. But I am here to tell you why I believe that Doodle s brother was the
cause of this tragic death. Brother left Doodle back in the rain when he KNEW he

before Doodle. At the end of the case your honor you will know that brother was
the cause to the death of Doodle Armstrong. Judge Meedel I would like to start off
by showing you how brother impacted in this death. Doodle struggled when it came
to walking and brother knew that but he didn t seem to care. If he cared then he
would have stopped and help Doodle through the storm but he DIDN T, he left him
there. On record we have that brother states I ran as fast as i could, leaving him far
behind with a wall of rain dividing us. (6) Therefore, brother left doodle all the way
in the back struggling but did he care.... Nope. As brother was running away you
could hear the words of Doodle shout out Brother, Brother, don t leave me! Don t

When you observe a cow in labor distress, obtain the following supplies and bring
them to your clean, well tended barn: obstetrical chains and handles, several dry
towels, dry straw, warm, soapy water, and obstetrical gloves and lubricant (if

Then, make a half hitch and loop it just under the dewclaw. Examine loops to make

chains are securely in place, hook the obstetrical chain handles on each chain. Keep
one handle a few inches farther away from the foot than the other this is to help the
shoulders pass through the birth canal easier. Once handles are placed, begin

Health And Wealth, Poverty, And The Way We Organize
Out...
1)According to Article 15, Health and Wealth, poor people tend to have shorter lives
and more health problems. What are some of the reasons that this is the case? What
can be done about the situation?
Article 15, Health and Wealth, states that some of the factors which led to poor
health are inequality, poverty, and the way we organize out health care system.
Even though all these factors are involved but the main reason leads to poverty.
Poverty seems to be the key reason because everything costs so much. Most of the
Americans are not paid enough to meet their personal need and barely have
enough money to make their ends meet. The struggle of trying to be on the
economic level hurts their health because people tend to take a lot of stress.
Poverty has a lot of dangers like consumption of too much alcohol, tobacco, illegal
drugs and fast foods. This sort of lifestyle can have a great impact on health causing
some dangerous diseases. Some of the other leading diseases that can be found in the
poor are cardiovascular diseases, cancer, and untreated medical conditions, because
they cannot afford the health care systems. Even the middle class society worries
about medical emergencies or trips to the doctor s office because they are not sure,
what might be covered in their insurance.
2)Please summarize the ways in which our mainstream media make the issue of
economic class invisible, as discussed in Article 45, Media Magic: Making Class

Summary Of Triumph Of The City By Edward Glaeser
INTRODUCTION SENTENCE. Edward Glaeser is a Professor of Economics at
Harvard University and a journalist for Bloomberg View, therefore he is well versed
in the economics of cities, innovation, crime and more. In his widely known
published book, Triumph of the City: How our Greatest Invention Makes Us Richer,
Smarter, Greener, Healthier, and Happier , he illustrates that cities have made
civilization more successful with new technology and ideas. In the first chapter of his
book, he explains how cities were created through sharing new ideas and technologies
between intellectuals, especially when living within close proximities of other
innovators, thereupon those within the innovative networks have built institutions to
provide an education system to create more alike, and as a result of these key
components, cities have helped and will continue to help the world thrive.
Glaeser argues that innovators being in close proximities of other innovators were
the beginning of a virtuous cycle that led to urbanization. He explains that after the
Persians were fought off by the Greeks in early fifth century BC, Athens drew in
scholars that were scattered around its neighboring countries to help with teaching
Athenians and the rebuilding of the city. Many scholars came to Athens, like
Thales, the first known philosopher, and Hippodamus, an urban architect, to help
create the fundamental makings of a knowledge hub. They had created a network
of scholars inside the city that would create more scholars to pass on their
knowledge, as well as amplify their own. Glaeser further influences his close
proximity idea through the story of Frederick Terman, a son of a Stanford professor
and a graduate from Stanford, who had an idea to bring technology businesses to one
area in California to create a technology induced industrial district. Terman obtained
many bright scholars, such as his former students David Packard and William
Hewlett, as well as another scholar that graduated from MIT and was an already
established founder of Shockley Semiconductor Laboratory, William Shockley. The
successors that came from the first generation of firms, that were originally brought
in by Terman, created their own companies with newer ideas

Tao Qian s Returning To The Farm To Dwell
Tao Qian was governor of Xu province during the late Eastern Han Dynasty of
China and one of China s greatest poets. Qian spent 13 years as a government
official at different posts. Afterwards, he became magistrate of Pengze and held
this position for eighty days before suddenly resigning. Qian s decision to resign
was based primarily on his disgust with the excessive formality and widespread
corruption of the government at that time. He gathered up his wife and children and
moved to his family farm to pursue a life of self sufficiency and reclusiveness. Qian
believed that nature was a haven from administration and office; he thought
individuals must remove themselves to the countryside to bring them back to being
one with nature. While some may argue that Tao Qian s idea of seclusion from the
chaos of the world made him a recluse, I believe it only created his sanctuary.
However, Qian had to reach complete destitute before he could achieve this.... Show

The Problem Domain
The spread and continued reproduction of the Northern Snakehead in the Potomac
river has been and will continue to be a threat to the integrity of the local
ecosystem. The Northern Snakehead is causing a disturbance in the local
ecosystem. These fish need to either be removed from the ecosystem or their

been taken in the past to rapidly eradicate this species regardless of lasting effects.
Most of the previous solutions include dumping large quantities of poison, draining
bodies of water, and encouraging fishing. In many cases this has caused bodies of

Because of this, Rayner Creese suggest removing native fish, draining when possible,
and clearing vegetation, to ensure maximum effectiveness. They also suggest
ensuring that there is sufficient poison such that the final amount in the water is
enough to kill the fish [1].
The diminishing amounts of poison in the local waterway, by the river flowing, is
something that must be carefully considered. The article is promising in that it
suggests that the poison flowing down river will be in a low enough concentration so
as to not cause much harm. This also suggests that a controlled, continuous release
will need to occur to maintain a lethal amount of poison on the targeted portion of the
river.

The Government And The Federal Government
The Federal Government is the body of government that implements and administers
public policy. The Federal Government Government execute all political powers.
Moreover, the Federal Government according to, (Benz, 2003) is defined as a system
that divides up powers between a strong National Government and smaller local
government. In addition, (Benz, 2003) also states that the Federal Government are
best used in large countries where there exists a diverse group of people with diverse
needs but a common culture, which unite them together.
With that being said, the Federal Government is composed of three branches, and
they are: (1). Legislative Branch, (2). Executive Branch, and (3). Judicial Branch. The
three branches of government are governed by the U.S. Constitution, the president,
and the federal court. Which brings us to an overview of each branch of government.
The legislative Branch is the branch of the government having the power to make
laws. Moreover, the Legislative Branch consists of the house of Representatives and
the senate, which together form the United States Congress (Legislative, n. d.). The
Legislative Branch has a process in which it conducts its business. With that being
said, a bill is the first drafted, and then given to the appropriate committee for
review; and here the bill may be viewed as being accepted, amended, or rejected
entirely. However, if the committee process the bill forward it is then at that time

Why Did The Erie Canal Change America
We come up with many ways to make our country better, to make it the best
country out there and the thing that really came close to completely changing
America for the better was the Erie Canal. Many people ask how did the Erie canal

the Erie Canal like the dangerous of making it as we had to use explosives. Other
problems were the growth in population, population wasn t a problem but because of

become colon cancers. Polyps can be small and they produce few, if any, symptoms.
This is why doctors recommend regular screening tests that help prevent colon
cancer. The way they can detect colon cancer from any stage is by identifying and

Forrest Gump Satire
Few people realize that the classic film, Forrest Gump, has its roots in a novel of
the same name by Winston Groom. However, if one were to read the novel after
seeing the film, he would be surprised to find an extremely different main character
and only a slightly reminiscent plot line. The film, Forrest Gump, is a romantic
drama riddled with comedy. The plotline follows Forrest Gumpand his childhood
love Jenny. Although they live separate lives, their paths continually cross over
time. Forrest, the main character, is a young man who has a low IQ. Despite this
obstacle, he manages to excel in life and even grasp the meaning of love. He is quite
naГЇve, but still lovable. Although he faces many difficult circumstances throughout
his life, these challenges are matched with success and joys. Audiences find the film
one full of spectacular special effects and heartwarming scenes. The novel, however,
has a different plot line and falls into a completely different genre.... Show more

The crass, annoying and gullible Forrest is used to represent the baby boomer
generation, of which he is a part. Forrest, much like his generation, never stops to
question whether things are right or wrong, he simply does as he is told. This
leads to several misfortunes in his life, including being sent to a mental hospital
and becoming a drug addict. Forrest chases the love of his life without being able to
fully comprehend what love truly is. In similar fashion, the baby boomer generation
searched for love and peace, and instead discovered sex, drugs, and rock n
Unequal Education In The United States
Education can be looked upon as the greatest key to unlock the hidden treasure known
as success. Education expands and grows human intellect to extents that allow the
performance, execution, and achievement of an individual to be at its peak.
Nevertheless, throughout history, this glorious tool to enlightenment has not been
shared equally amongst men. We see that throughout the decades, some were
administered proper education, while other received unequal education or none at all.
Currently, there are many plans of action implemented to correct this dilemma in the
United States, but there is still an educational gap that exists. Research demonstrates
that in 2015 Iowa had the highest graduation rate of 90.8%, while the District of

The U.S. Department of Education regulates all educational policies in the country,
allowing this group to have substantial control in the growth and development of the
youth. Throughout the years, many have seen that there have been many educational
inequalities that have lingered, causing many students to lose out on potential
opportunities to receive secondary education or job opportunities. However, as of
recently, there is a new act to fix this dilemma. On December 10, 2015, President
Barack Obama passed the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). The purpose of this
act is to develop the youth better so that the achievement gap that students face can
begin to shrink. ESSA is more effective than the other implementations, such as the
No Child Left Behind Act, because creates standards for students to reach and
monitors their progress as they develop. This ensures accountability and that students
are making progress throughout the years to close the achievement gap that exists.
Also, ESSA gives federal aid to schools with students who come from low income
families (ESSA). With this program, the educational gap may begin to shrink as
students are now given more resources to better
Michigan Water Crisis
The state of Michigan is in a serious crisis! The governor of Michigan, Rick Snyder,
seems to not care about the poor people of the state of Michigan. One of the state of
Michigan s urban school system, in the city of Detroit, is unhealthy, disorganized and
is not equipped with the necessary supplies, equipment or resources to effectively or
safely teach students. The water pipes in Flint, Michigan are filled with lead and
citizens in Flint who drink, bathe, and cook with the municipal water have incurred
lead poisoning.
On April 25, 2014 a press conference was held to announce switching from the city of
Detroit water supply to Flint River water. The city of Detroit gets its water supply
from Lake Huron, which is the third largest fresh water ... Show more content on

However, rather than try to deal with the problems that were being brought to the
government s attention, the Snyder administration covered up the problems and
discredited the scientists or doctors that tried to warn people of the problems. There
have been multiple credible studies involving Flint s water crisis. For example, a
doctor performed blood tests on children in the Flint area and uncovered a
significant increase in the number of children who had increased levels of lead in
their blood. She immediately brought her findings to the attention of various agencies
in the Snyder Administration but she was largely ignored. Another researcher came
to Flint to get a sample of water; he placed a nail in the water and after a week the
nail began to rust immediately. He brought his document and proof to the Governor
administration and this person, yet again, was discredited and marginalized.
Meanwhile, one of the largest manufacturing companies in the world, whose Flint
manufacturing plant refused to use the water because it caused engine parts to
corrode. Despite many examples of significant problems with the water in Flint,
Governor Snyder dismissed the problem until children were being diagnosed with
lead poison that when he figured it was time to address the
Andrew Marvell in To His Coy Mistress and Robert...
While both Andrew Marvell in To His Coy Mistress and Robert Herrick in To the
Virgin to Make Much Time, both poems express the same idea of Carpe Diem,
Marvell wants his mistress to give into his seduction by persuading her with images
of worms crawling inside of her and Herrick is asking all young women to deference
the idea of embracing their sexuality and to enjoy beauty while one still has it.
The speaker of Herrick s poem stressed the short lived character of life and to take
advantage of their youth to promptly celebrate life, to be amiable, to take chances,
and the pleasures it has to offer. Nonetheless, the speaker ... Show more content on

The second stanza of the poem takes a shift. He urges that they are to die soon and
that life is too short while death is forever. In lines 27 to 28, the speaker scares her by
saying worms will try to take her virginity if she doesn t sleep with him now. As for
the third stanza, the speaker is simplifying what is going to happen when she dies, so
why not use up her precious time now?
While Herrick is addressing young women encouraging them to grasp their
sexuality while in Marvell s poem, his speaker is persuading the women to commit
in the sex act with him personally. On the other hand, both poems take after the
Carpe Diem idea of living in the now and being merry while tomorrow humans
may die or loved ones may. Both Herrick and Marvell dramatize the idea of
pleasure, how it should not be held back because dying is destined. Not only that,
but both poems seem to almost be like letters to someone. Marvell s poem is very
powerful when describing how worms will burrow into his mistress when dead and
is more personal while Herrick s is more soothing without the disgusting image and
is for all young ladies. Urging women to loose their virginity is one of the big themes
of both poems, except Marvell is acting as a
Fruitvale Station Sociology
Fruitvale Station, directed by Ryan Coogler, is a 2013 film based on a true story,
in which this movie was inspired by the death of an African American man, Oscar
Grant, fatally shot by a Bay Area Rapid Transport (BART) police officer in 2009.
As the movie begins, it shows the actual footage of Oscar Grant and several of his
friends being detained by the BART Police at the Fruitvale Station in Oakland on
New Year s Day. Then as the story continues, it leads up to what resulted in the fatal
shooting, to which it all began with the train ride back home. On his final train ride,
a customer from the grocery store that Grant used to work at calls out his name,
resulting in a former inmate from Grant s past noticing him as well. This causes a

According to our lecture, Racism and discrimination are what we call a root problem
in society because it also affects the way we discuss various social topics such as
violence (Reali, 2018). Hence, the stereotype that young African American men are
violent, which is most likely why the policemen automatically detained Grant and his
friends for violent behavior. As for discrimination, the policemen also treated these
Black men in an unfair manner by using the N word, pushing, and physically harming
them. It brings up the question of What would have happened if these men were
white,? and if things would have turned out differently if they were. Furthermore, the
gunshot that killed Oscar Grant is another example of the policemen s prejudice and
discrimination towards African Americans, since he allowed a prejudgement thought
influence his actions, even though there was no need to use violence (Reali, 2018).
In my opinion, this goes back to the prejudice and discrimination that has lasted
hundreds of years against African Americans that still continues to affect these
minorities. One of the characteristics of this minority groups is the unequal
treatment they experience with having less power over their lives than members of
a dominant group have over their own lives, clearly being the case, in which Grant
had no power over the fate of his life. (Reali,

Exploring Morality and Faith in Brian Moore s Black Robe
Exploring Morality and Faith in Brian Moore s Black Robe
Included within the anthology The Penguin Book of Irish Fiction,1[1] are the works
of great Irish authors written from around three hundred years ago, until as recently
as the last decade. Since one might expect to find in an anthology such as this only
expressions and interpretations of Irish or European places, events or peoples, some
included material could be quite surprising in its contrasting content. One such
inclusion comes from the novel Black Robe,2[2] by Irish born author Brian Moore.
Leaving Ireland as a young man afforded Moore a chance to see a great deal of the
world and in reflection afforded him a great diversity of setting and theme in his

Essay about Medical Advancements During World War Two
Medical Advancements in World War Two.
World War Two, a harsh period of time in the 1930s 1940s, filled with controversial
arguments, political battles, fights to the death, but most importantly, medical
advancements. Did you know that without the research and discoveries made during
World War Two, our medical programs would probably be lacking the information
we have today? It s very true, and in my opinion, the war strengthened our medical
abilities, and it really put our world to the test. New medicine had been discovered,
while old medicine had been improved; horrible medical experiments performed by
the Nazis occurred during this time; but most importantly, World War Two has
affected our medical programs that we have presently. These... Show more content on

It had the same curing properties as M+B (it cured infectious diseases), the only
difference being that it also treated wounded soldiers. It greatly increased the
survival rate of wounds and infectious diseases, and in my opinion, without
Penicillin the death rate would have probably doubled or tripled! Like M+B the
demand for Penicillin boomed during World War Two, and the mass production of the
drug increased greatly.
While these two drugs have had such a great impact on our world, there are many
other drugs that were very important during World War Two. Sulfanilamide, for
example, was carried by soldiers all the time. It was a white powder, sprinkled on
wounds to prevent infection, and it still exists today! The mortality rate of wounds
without Sulfanilamide was 75 per 100 people, however, with Sulfanilamide, the
death rate plummeted to 11 per 100 people! Morphine was also greatly used during
the war because of its strong painkilling properties. However, it was extremely
addictive, it was even more addictive than Nicotine (one of the most addictive
substances known to man)! It was originally made from poppy plants indigenous to
Turkey and India, and it was administered through a syrette. A syrette is a small auto
injector with a tube attached similar to a tube of toothpaste, but much smaller.
Morphine caused many people to faint if they were fatigued or severely wounded,
proving the extreme strength of the drug.

Equipped with our five senses, along with telescopes and microscopes and mass

Neil deGrasse Tyson, an American astrophysicist, and director of the Hayden
Planetarium at the American Museum of Natural History used this quote to clearly
express his idea in his writing Coming to Our Senses that we need technology with
our senses to fully explore the world. Neil deGrasse Tyson used many different types
of rhetorical devices to convince his thoughts to his audience.
Tyson being an astrophysicist made him more appealing to his audience because they

Fall Of Usher
The Fall of the House of Usher is an enticing tale of insanity, death, and unadulterated
fear. The short story, The Fall of the House of Usher, is gothic fiction and is written
by Edgar Allan Poe. Certain elements in the story and the actions of Madeline,
Roderick Usher s sister, causes Usher to go completely insane and almost brings the
narrator to the brink of insanity. Through specific gothic elements such as emotions,
the eerie and mysterious setting, and the supernatural, Poe successfully achieves a
suspenseful mood within his short story.
At the end of The Fall of the House of Usher, when the house sinks and falls, it is
because of his insanity and his belief that his sister died that the house sank and fell.

However, some people argue that it was her illness that made her portray these
death like symptoms, which is why they entombed her. The illness of Madeline
can be mistaken for death because it makes her unable to move and her body
becomes completely rigid. She is terminally ill and suffers fits of catalepsy,
meaning she appears rigid and does not move for long periods of time. [...] Some
critics have suggested that Madeline s illness is the result of a long history of
incestual breeding in the Usher family; others believe that she possesses evil
powers and is, in fact, a vampire. (Wilson par. 15) Her illness causes rigidness
throughout the body for long periods of time and, because of this, both the narrator
and Usher assumed she was dead. Madeline Usher was angry that she was
entombed so she came back and critics and some readers assume she was a vampire
because of this. Usher knew that she was still alive and when he tried to share that
with the narrator he ignored him and blamed his assumption on his sanity. It s not
Roderick who s the vampire, it could be Madeline, well she does come back from the
dead after several days. [...] which could be that she s returned from the dead as a
vampire. Also, Roderick, some critics think that Roderick s
Comparing The Twelve Tables And The Hebrew Law
Rome s Twelve Tables and the Hebrew law Although the Roman Twelve Tables and
the Hebrew law are both early code of laws they have many differences. The rights
of woman, slaves, and the punishments for a crime are all addressed in both code
laws but are treated differently. The Twelve Tables were invented by the Romans,
attempting to make a code of laws. A commission of men were to make a code of
laws that respected all citizens way of life in 450 B.C.E. It was designed for a
simple agricultural society and proved to be inadequate for later generations. The
Hebrew law was created in 18th century B.C.E. The laws are the codes Yahweh
wanted his chosen people to live by. The only way his children could fill the
covenant between them was to obey them.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

  • 2. Rhetorical Analysis Of Into The Wild, By Jon Krakauer Author V.S. Naipaul once said, What I felt was, if you spend your life just writing fiction, you are going to falsify your material. I thought nonfiction gave one a chance to explore the world, the other world, the world that one didn t know fully. John Krakauer s Into the Wild is a biography that covers a man s attempt to live life off the grid and stray from the societal norms of mid nineties America in order to achieve enlightenment. Throughout the story, the readers follow Chris McCandless as he travels across the country, discovers new locations, and encounters new experiences in search of happiness, peace, and solitude. As the reader approaches the middle of the story, they realize an important relationship beginning to manifest between... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He explains how he was torn between quitting his job, which was necessary for the income, or continuing to venture into the wild, searching for new places to climb. Krakauer never had any doubt that climbing the Devil s Thumb would transform his life. How could it not? (135). This technique of rhetorical questioning requires the reader to think of Krakauer s options and aims to make the readers predict where Krakauer his headed, leaving his job in search for climbing opportunities. After Krakauer clues the reader about his future plans, he then goes on to tell them of the day he quit his job. He writes the next few sentences in problem solution format, noting ...after nine hours of humping two by tens and driving sixteen penny nails, I told my boss I was quitting (135,136). This concise problem solution sentence format notifies the reader that Krakauer was sure of his decision to quit his job. He did not need much time to think about this life changing decision, assuring the readers that he has been waiting for this lifestyle of adventure and freedom. Simply put, Krakauer and McCandless both operate on whims and are sure of their
  • 3. The Traditional American Family The traditional American family can be traced back to the aggressive marketing in the 1950 s. The image of a white, middle class family owning a moderate sized home with a well kept lawn. The father is the head of the household who would teach his kids all the life lessons and be the only source of income by working a white collar, corporate job. The mother would stay at home in a full skirt and heels looking after the kids, preparing meals, and taking care of the house. The kids, usually two, would be well behaved and well dressed. This view of the familyis narrow and rigid, but through aggressive media portrayals has come to be viewed as normal and ideal. Shows such as Leave it to Beaver and Father knows best reinforced that idea of a good family eating together at dinner, praying together, and being proud of the nation. Today, that ideal family image still holds its place in today s culture, but there has been a dramatic shift from that ideal to a more diverse representation of the American family. The tradition family has become a sort of fairy tale that can never be achieved. It is now more common to see both parents working to support the family, more women are breaking into the workforce and even fathers are staying home to be the caretaker. A closer look at the data from suggests the traditional family ideal failed to be widely accepted and instead media outlets are scrambling to capture the image of the modern family. Background Information This evolution of
  • 4. Horace Mann Analysis Horace Mann, known as the father of American public education , wrote the policy document Report of the Massachusetts Board of Education, that claims Massachusetts s school education is becoming unequal among the citizens. Mann develops his argument by using European and American values of men, and how society functions with men that have been treated as equals. Mann s purpose was to discuss the problems in Massachusetts s educationsystem in order to inform his audience and persuade a change. Mann s audience assumes an audience that would be government workers or officials because of his message of changing the education system. I agree with Horace Mann, education is vital in society and determines how it functions. If certain groups of people do not receive equal education than others, then society will change and more poverty, unemployment, and more inequality will increase. The President of Bard College, Leon Botstein, wrote the opinion piece Let Teenagers Try Adulthood (1999), argues that American high schools should be abolished. Botstein uses school cliques and brain development to develop the argument. The author s purpose was to argue that high school are dangerous to kids mental health and the school system should be modified in order to keep children safe from wrong ideas that are often present in high schools. The audience of the opinion article are school officials and people who have the power to change the educational system. I agree with Botstein that
  • 5. Crude Oil Essay Crude Oil Crude oil is a complex mixture of hydrocarbon molecules formed over millions of years when the remains of microscopic sea creatures trapped in sediments were converted by heat and pressure into crude oil. The most abundant of these mixtures are the ones containing hydrogen and carbon only. These hydrocarbons can take on a number of different forms, i.e. alkanes, alkenes and alkynes. They vary in size and shape and viscosity. By manipulating these chains of hydrocarbons you can create any number of useful substances as they are very adaptable. However there are lots of compounds that also contain some of the following; oxygen, sulphur or nitrogen. The purer hydrocarbon ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These separate fractions can now be distilled again if necessary to get the useful materials out of the fraction. The fractions are separated as follows: В· The crude oil is vaporised by heating it before it reaches the fractionating column В· The vaporised crude oil is feed into the bottom of the column. В· Steel trays divide the column and the crude oil vapour rises up through holes in the trays. В· The temperature gradient between the bottom of the column to the bottom (progressively cooler upwards) means that as the vapour passes through a tray it comes into contact with the cooler liquid on that layer and some of the hydrocarbon chains condense. В· This leaves the rest of the vapour to continue rising until they reach their respective levels. The distillation continues as above until 40 or 50 condenses have taken place then there is enough of each level to remove the separate fractions. In industry there is a careful balance to the amount of crude oil allowed in at the bottom of the tower at a time so that the fractions can be removed repeatedly without interrupting the process. The fractions are removed in the following order from the bottom (hottest) and the list also shows what can be done with each substance or how it can be used. Heavy Petroleum Oil These consist of simple alkanes with no more than 4 carbon atoms in a chain. They are used as a fuel
  • 6. What Is The Theme Of Society In Fahrenheit 451 As society progresses, technology and customs often progress proportionally. Social customs, and the way a group of people function as a whole are often altered by significant events or a change in societal variables. Occasionally, this leads to situations in which certain facets of society begin to drastically differ from their original form. Take for example, the abolition of slavery in the United States in 1865. Slavery had been a vastly unchallenged component of American society until that point (excluding the period of abolition efforts). When this changed, the government had to implement a number of laws that reversed prior legislation concerning slavery. In many ways, Ray Bradburys fictional society in his dystopian novel, Fahrenheit 451 mirrors this by presenting a repressive community in which many factors contribute to mass apathy and a passive state of perpetual passive occupation. Social contact is central to human happiness, but as our technology increases in its proficiency, there tends to be a disconnect in interpersonal contact. This feature of society is predicted 64 years ahead of time, and is highlighted frequently throughout the book, manifested in Mildred s ear seashells and talking walls for entertainment. On a walk with Montag, Clarisse mentions that she is often ostracized from her peers due to her antisocial tendencies. However, the audience must pause to consider what she means by antisocial here to fully grasp the gravity and relevance of her

See You Later Alligator, In A While Crocodile Taylor CormierPaqutte English 5097 8W1 See You Later Alligator, In a While Crocodile Now it s perfectly understandable to confuse gators and crocs (the animals, not the shoes). They have a Staggering amount of similarities, it s very easy to give into the urges to reference the two interchangeably. They both are very large reptiles, hailing from the order Crocodylia, easily weigh A ton, and dawn the traditional dry scaly skin. They even tend to have a very similar dark greenish brown color. While they are semi aquatic, like all reptiles they are cold blooded, so the both live in very warm, wet climates, such as swamps and lagoons in order to thrive. Both alligators and crocodiles are sexually dimorphic, resulting in the male being larger
  • 8. The First Commander I Will Talk About Is Heinrich Himmler There were many leaders in the Waffen SS, such as Heinrich Himmler, Joseph Dietrich, Paul Hausser, Theodor Eicke, Felix Steiner, Kurt Meyer and Joachim Peiper. And I researched the 4 leaders mainly: Heinrich Himmler, Joseph Dietrich, Felix Steiner and Paul Hausser. The first commander I will talk about is Heinrich Himmler. Figure.1 Himmler in early SS uniform Heinrich Himmler was a ceremonial chief of the Waffen SS, a leading member of the Nazi Party, and Himmler was the one of the most powerful men in Nazi Germany and one of the persons most directly responsible for the Holocaust. Himmler joined the party in 1923, and he was not a powerful leader at that time. Upon the resignation of the SS leader Erhard Heiden, Himmler was assumed as a commander of the SS by Hitler s approval, and he carried out his duties at propaganda headquaters. His first responsibility was to organize SS participants, and over the next year, and he made the SS force bigger, 290 men to about 3000 men. And after a few years, in 1943, Himmler became a main architect of the Holocaust, after Hitler finally resolved to kill the Jews. Holocaust generally means a large scale massacre, but it is also known as a large scale massacre of Jewish people in World War2. Holocaust first became known by Himmler s speech. To summarize the Posen speech, Himmler said I want to address here a very difficult subject, in all openness before you. It shall be addressed among us, not in public... I am now referring to the
  • 9. Essay Comparing Women In Hell-Heaven And Unaccustomed Earth Male migrants adapt to a new environment more easily than female do. This is shown by two women in different stories: Hell Heaven and Unaccustomed Earth . For men, moving to another country is a great chance to advance their career, whereas women tend to struggle with building a new relationship with others and have less opportunity to experience distinct cultures in a different country. As women spend most of their time at home especially when they are in a new environment, they are more likely to feel lonely. The vast majority of female immigrants do not work as there are many barriers to find a suitable job for them, for example, visas and languages. Therefore, women are less exposed to a society than men. This reduces the chance of interacting with new people. In Unaccustomed Earth , after Ruma s mother moved to a foreign place for the marriage, she lived without any friend. She did not try to make a friend and just scarified her life only for family. In Hell Heaven , Boudi was also similar as Ruma. She was not close with the neighbor Mrs Holcomb who saved her life. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On the other hand, since women mostly spend their time at home, they hardly hear, see and speak the language and experience other cultures. In addition, as they have less opportunity to actually use the language, they often fail to see the necessity of learning and have less motivation of learning. These barriers block them to adapt in a new place well. In Hell Heaven , Boudi hardly spoke English and could not understand people who live in where she lives. For example, clothes that Deborah wore and what Deborah did to her daughter. Therefore, she did not enjoy living outside of where she is

Power of the Mother and Daughter Relationship Amy Tan s Joy Luck Club In the novel, The Joy Luck Club, the author, Amy Tan, intricately weaves together the roles and experiences of Chinese mothers with their American born daughters. During a time of war, the mothers flee from China to America, leaving behind a past filled with secrets that unravel as their daughters mature. While sharing their difficulties, these mothers must be able to teach Chinese beliefs and customs to their daughters in a way that relates to American society. I [have] genuine thoughts inside that no one [can] see, that no one [can] ever take away from me. I [am] like the wind, (Tan 53). This makes her invisible, strong, and assertive. As demonstrated throughout the novel, the strongest wind cannot be seen, (Tan 89). She had escaped without leaving a trace behind her. As the daughters grow, they portray certain characteristics similar to their mothers. Once Waverly learns how to play chess and competes against former champions, she uses her wind , which she inherited from her mother, to win all the games. She states: ...I would clasp my hands under my chin... in the delicate manner my mother had shown me for posing for the press. I would...twirl my chosen piece in midair as if undecided, and then firmly plant it in its new threatening place, with a triumphant smile [on my face], (Tan 100). Here Waverly uses her strong and invisible wind to outsmart her opponents. Although she does not realize it now, Waverly has inherited her mother s characteristic of being an invisible, yet influential woman. Because the daughters do not understand what qualities they have inherited, they have become distant from their mothers. Trying to teach their daughters to strive for excellence only pushes them away. Suyuan Woo, another mother in the novel, and Lindo unceasingly compete amongst each other to determine whose daughter exhibits the most talent. In a conversation between these mothers, Lindo boasts:

It is the reward you receive for multiple years of difficult work and perseverance. It is also an extremely bittersweet occasion because often times you are required to make difficult decisions. Decisions that could take you away from everyone and everything you have ever known. This is known as a timeof transition. Honestly, it seems a bit anticlimactic that after all the emotions and preparation you do beforehand is all summarized within a few short hours. If I challenged myself to choose my top three picks on what life lessons I have learned I would say freedom, responsibility, and tolerance. I say that I have learned the lesson of freedom simply owing to the fact that this was my first taste of freedom. When you receive your driver s license and car or you are able to date for the first time you feel the absolutely exhilarating unbridled feeling of freedom. This feeling blossoms and flourishes for only a moment, because then it has company. Freedom is joined by the always rational and logical emotion responsibility. Responsibility is like the notification that forces you to go home in time for your curfew or the friend you forces you to stop at the stop sign or to not drink and drive. When freedom and responsibility work together, you are safe and you also have a great time growing up. When the two emotions combine together your chances of living to adulthood increase dramatically. The last life lesson I chose is most definitely not the least important. I have become more tolerant of not only people and their decisions but also with circumstances. This was not only the most difficult lesson I have had to learn, but it is the lesson that I am most thankful for due to the fact that I know that I will use it more and more frequently as I enter into the real world .

Now, in recent years it has been the Bali tiger, West African black rhinoceros, American cheetah and hundreds of others. In the last century, the rate of extinction has been accelerated to an estimated level that is ten thousand times greater than natural levels. Currently in the United States at least one third of native animals are at an increased risk of extinctionand over half of those are federally listed as endangered. With the Endangered Species Perseveration Act of 1966 passed under President Nixon, the government made its first move to offer protection to endangered species. Since then, every president, including Ronald Regan, Jimmy Carter and Gerald Ford, have included the protection of endangered animals, as part of their domestic policy. With the passage of numerous restrictive laws and the spending of billions of dollars, the question has been raised many times whether the government has a duty to offer protection to endangered species. I say that the government should protect endangered animals. One objector might say that for the amount of money, energy and time the government has spent to protect endangered species, they have had very little success. The United States spends an average of $1.7 billion yearly, money that comes mostly from taxpayers, to help run their expensive programs. To show for it all, only 21

THE CONCEPT OF REQUIREMENTS TRACEABILITY According to IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), Requirements traceability refers to the ability to define, capture and follow the traces left by requirements on other elements of the software development environment and the trace left by those elements on requirements. In general, traceability is a process of inter relating the different requirements identified by the stakeholders at different levels of software development life cycle and various project artifacts. This inter relation is used to establish the scenarios of a specific use case within a system or application and test those scenarios using test cases. In any software development project, requirements should be easily traceable and for this, the origin of the requirements should be clear to follow. In other words, Requirements traceability is the ability to capture the traces of requirements within a system or between the integrated systems during its development life cycle. Traceability is required to manage changes at various stages of the SDLC and is a part of Requirements Management 2. MODES OF REQUIREMENTS TRACEABILITY There are different modes to perform requirements analysis based on the direction, before/after Requirements Specification phase of a project and the relationship between elements such as requirements and artifacts. 2.1 Forward and Backward Requirements Traceability Bidirectional Requirements traceability

One reason is that if someone let s just say, tells you to act like a chicken while they hypnotize you, you are probably not going to act like a chicken, but there is a chance that you could act like a chicken. One of the reasons I think that hypnosis is fake is because like there is proof that is real buts like what if behind the scenes they tell each other what they are going to say and stuff and then they say bark like a dog so the person just barks like a dog. Even highly hypnotizable people may not benefit from hypnotherapy, and a single session of hypnosis usually does not produce lasting results. Sharing common ancestry, these penguins share very similar morphological traits as well as behavioral traits. In order to try to determine what makes each of these species different, scientist in the field have turned to studying vocal repertoires of each penguin that is a part of the Spheniscus family. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Different types of calls are made possible by an organ in the penguin s throat called the syrinx. Each species syrinx differs slightly allowing different calls to be made. A study was conducted by Nina Thumser and Millicent Ficken that proved each species calls differ in the number of syllables, length, and frequency. This is why a recommended method used to classify the behavior of penguins is to understand and identify vocalizations. The African penguin had the greatest maximum frequency of the longest syllable when comparing it to the braying in Humboldt and Magellanic penguins. In addition, during mating seasons both sexes of African penguins will contribute their own bray call, however, in species such as the Spheniscus mendiculus commonly known as the Galapagos penguin, it s mainly the males who bray when breeding. The African penguin also brays more frequently because they are more likely to display aggression via braying. because in a study, also done by Nina Thumser and Millicent Ficken, it was discovered that African Penguins are more aggressive towards each other than other Spheniscus penguins were towards other members. The African black footed penguin is unique, as in comparison to its Spheniscus family relatives due to its extensive use of the braying call. These uses developed as a result of behaviors and the lifestyle seen in the African penguin that are not as clearly seen in its Galapagos, Magellanic, and Humboldt relatives. The harsh, loud, sharp, and intense sound of the bray has developed to benefit the penguin. Without it the species would not be successful in reproduction, establishing territory, or locating other members of the

Newton s Three Laws Of Motion Newton s Three Laws of Motion Timmo Wooldridge 11/18/2015 Sir Isaac Newton s laws of motion are three physical laws that made the foundation for modern mechanics. They describe the relationship between the body and the forces upon it, and it s response to the motion. Sir Isaac Newton was one of the greatest scientists and mathematicians that ever lived, born in England on December 25, 1643, the same year that Galileo died. He went to Trinity college in Cambridge. While he was in college, Newton had new ideas about motion, which he called Newton s three laws of motion. He also had ideas about gravity, the diffraction of light, and forces. His ideas were so great that in 1705, Queen Anne knighted him. What Newton s three laws of motion, and what did they do? Newton s laws made the foundation for modern science and changed the world. Newton s first law of motion states that An object at rest will remain at rest unless acted on by an unbalanced force. An object in motion continues in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force. ( Newton s 3 Laws of Motion ) This means that objects that are already moving tend to stay moving. If there is an unbalanced force than it will affect the motion. There are two parts to this statement. One that predicts what the behavior of stationary objects will be, and the other part that predicts the behavior of moving objects. The way of all objects can be described by saying that

  • 33. Summary Of Triumph Of The City By Edward Glaeser INTRODUCTION SENTENCE. Edward Glaeser is a Professor of Economics at Harvard University and a journalist for Bloomberg View, therefore he is well versed in the economics of cities, innovation, crime and more. In his widely known published book, Triumph of the City: How our Greatest Invention Makes Us Richer, Smarter, Greener, Healthier, and Happier , he illustrates that cities have made civilization more successful with new technology and ideas. In the first chapter of his book, he explains how cities were created through sharing new ideas and technologies between intellectuals, especially when living within close proximities of other innovators, thereupon those within the innovative networks have built institutions to provide an education system to create more alike, and as a result of these key components, cities have helped and will continue to help the world thrive. Glaeser argues that innovators being in close proximities of other innovators were the beginning of a virtuous cycle that led to urbanization. He explains that after the Persians were fought off by the Greeks in early fifth century BC, Athens drew in scholars that were scattered around its neighboring countries to help with teaching Athenians and the rebuilding of the city. Many scholars came to Athens, like Thales, the first known philosopher, and Hippodamus, an urban architect, to help create the fundamental makings of a knowledge hub. They had created a network of scholars inside the city that would create more scholars to pass on their knowledge, as well as amplify their own. Glaeser further influences his close proximity idea through the story of Frederick Terman, a son of a Stanford professor and a graduate from Stanford, who had an idea to bring technology businesses to one area in California to create a technology induced industrial district. Terman obtained many bright scholars, such as his former students David Packard and William Hewlett, as well as another scholar that graduated from MIT and was an already established founder of Shockley Semiconductor Laboratory, William Shockley. The successors that came from the first generation of firms, that were originally brought in by Terman, created their own companies with newer ideas
