Narrative Essay Techniques
Crafting an essay on the intricacies of "Narrative Essay Techniques" can be quite challenging,
requiring a delicate balance between creativity and structure. The difficulty lies in not only
conveying a compelling story but also in employing the right narrative techniques to captivate the
audience. It involves a meticulous selection of words, a keen understanding of pacing, and an
artful arrangement of events to create a seamless and engaging narrative flow.
To successfully navigate this task, one must delve into the nuances of storytelling, exploring
various literary devices and techniques that enhance the overall narrative experience. The
challenge is to strike a harmonious chord between vivid descriptions, character development, and
a well-crafted plot. It demands not only a grasp of the subject matter but also the ability to
convey it in a way that resonates with the reader.
Additionally, finding the right balance between showing and telling, as well as incorporating
dialogue and setting, adds another layer of complexity to the process. Crafting a narrative essay
requires a writer to be both an architect and an artist, constructing a solid foundation while
infusing it with creative flair.
Moreover, each narrative essay is unique, and there's no one-size-fits-all approach. Tailoring the
techniques to suit the specific theme and purpose of the essay adds an extra layer of challenge. It
requires the writer to adapt their style, tone, and pacing to create a narrative that is not only
technically sound but also emotionally resonant.
In conclusion, writing an essay on "Narrative Essay Techniques" demands a nuanced
understanding of storytelling coupled with the ability to apply various literary devices
effectively. It's an art that requires practice, patience, and a keen eye for detail. However, for
those who find themselves overwhelmed by the complexity of the task, assistance is available.

Henry J. Kaiser And Sidney R
Henry J. Kaiser and Sidney R. Garfield founded Kaiser Permanente in 1945 after the
derivation of Kaiser industrial companies insurance consortium called Industrial
Indemnity in the 1930s. The industrial heath care program was put into place for
construction, shipyard, and steel mill workers for the Kaiser industrial companies as
a workers compensation obligation. Dr. Sidney Garfield saw the construction of the
Colorado River Aqueduct Project as an opportunity to treat sick and injured
construction workers. He then contracted with Henry J. Kaiser industries and built
the Contractors General Hospital in a small town called Desert Center, California. In
the height of the Great Depression, a time of economic devastation, it was extremely
hard for patients and even insurance companies to pay their expenses. Kaiser
Permanenteput into place the prepayment system, where insurance companies were
required to pay a fixed amount per day at the cost of five cents from insured workers
. After the construction of the Colorado Aqueduct Project, Dr. Garfield s efforts
continued in Washington state where the Grand Coulee Dam was being built. The
Kaiser Company contracted with Dr. Garfield to reproduce the same project at
Colorado River Aqueduct in California this time at Mason City Hospital. Unlike the
Colorado River Aqueduct project, the workers on the Grand Coulee Dam brought
their families with them. Unions forced the Kaiser Company to insure their
dependents and this marked the

Clueless Use Of Film Techniques In Jane Austen s Emma
How does the composer of Clueless use film techniques to transform the social,
historical and environmental context of Jane Austen s Emma to the modern context
of Clueless?
Amy Heckerling s Clueless involves a storyline, which closely follows the text of
Jane Austen s novel Emma. However, there are some key points of difference in the
transformation that has taken place. This is due to the individual context of the
nineteenth century prose text and that of the modern appropriated film text. The
context can be divided into three focal categories, the social, historical and
environmental context. In order to be able to address the question, these three
groupings must be identified accordingly. Social context refers to the life and ... Show

The strict class hierarchy of Highbury allows for little social mobility or interaction.
When Emma is in need of a new match making candidate to ensue the success of her

Taking a Look at Information Warfare
INTRODUCTION
Over the last decades, information warfare has become a societal issue. Research
shows that information warfare does not exclude to military, and have penetrated into
commercial word. This issue, is a threat for organization and their assets.
(Knapp,Boulton, 2006)
Information is a valuable asset for businesses and organizations. Advances in
information technology facilities the storing, transferring, and modifying of data.
Organizations use information technologies such as the Internet and networked
technology to reduce operating costs, improve customer service, and improve
productivity. However, Using the Internet has increased the number of frontier that
must be protected and has bought a lot of concerns about security issues. (Ezingeard,
McFadzean, Birchall, 2005)
Although, governments and businesses have spent billions of dollars on IT to protect
their information, Medias highlights that the number of cyber fraud and cyber attacks
by nation states, criminals, and hacktivists is accelerating. ( Ezingeard, McFadzean,
Birchall, 2005)
Using of spying techniques such as espionage is another threats for organization. The
traditional form of espionage is replaced by new technology espionage which uses
advanced electronic and computer devices to steal information and knowledge of
organizations. (Knapp,Boulton, 2006)
In this paper the role of counterintelligence and information assurance, two elements
of information warfare, in business environments is
Haitian Bridge Scenario
SCENARIO The French government had donated that bridge to help the Haitian
people. As I stated before, this kind of bridge must not stay on the terrain for a long
time. This time would be different due to the peculiar situation of those villages. The
cities of Dondon and San Rafael used the former bridgefor many purposes like to
take children to school, go to the doctor appointments and day by day
displacements. The old bridge had fallen three years ago during a tropical storm.
Since that day, people used a ford path in the river to cross. They really needed that
bridge.
PUTTING THE PLAN IN PRACTICE
Finally, our platoon arrived at the bridge place. Already on arrival, we realized the
first problem. The road that led to the bridge was very narrow. This greatly hindered
the way that we had to put our bridge material on the ground. Looking around us, we
realized we had a solution. There was a private land next to the perfect installation
location to accommodate all material. I shifted up to the residence with our sergeant
who was a French interpreter. I knocked in her door and my partner explained the
entire situation. She listened us ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first task was to level the land to assemble the bridge. An infantry platoon of
the Chilean Army was doing the safety of the work site. A large number of curious
Haitians surrounded the place trying not to miss any detail of the work. Our stuff
was widespread, impairing the smooth progress of work. Despite all this, we were
all motivated and glad to help those people. We had a hard work long day. In the
end of day, we were exhausted. Next morning everything would start again. The
place we were was quite away from the city. Because of that, there was no internet
signal available. We would be nearly 15 days without contact with our families.
Looking to the bright side of it was the opportunity to spend time together exchanging
I Have A Good Idea Of My Stress
When it comes to wellness issues, I have always struggled the most with stress. I
have always been more prone to become stressed, due to my anxiety. Therefore,
stress is a big obstacle in my life, and it is something that I need to find a way to
deal with, especially now that I have begun to attend college. Because I have dealt
with anxiety before, I have a good idea of my stress level. My stress levels can
become very high, and as a result, I have several ways of dealing with stress. As a
result, I am familiar with some of the techniques mentioned in the textbook. For
example, exercising has always been an effective stress technique for me. As
mentioned in the textbook, performing exercises such as running and walking on a
regular basis has been an effective way for me to reduce stress. However, the
textbook has also introduced me to new techniques to helpmanage my stress, as well
as ways to improve techniques I already use. One of these new techniques is eating
healthy. Prior to reading the text, I never considered that my eating habits would
affect my stress levels. However, after reading through the text, I can definitely see
how my eating habits and stress levels affect each other. After evaluating my eating
habits, I noticed that I do not eat healthy when I am stressed. When I become
stressed or have an important event coming up, such having a test or a paper due, I
tend to skip meals like breakfast and lunch, and instead eat smaller snacks of foods
such as candy
The Pros And Cons Of Quarterbacks
There have always been stiff arguments between sports team devotees as to who s
quarterback really brings the goods to the table. The argument for who truly
clenches the crown of being named the GOAT, or great of all time, is surely not one
to be taken lightly by any means whatsoever. After all, this is the title any quarterback
in history has ever labored their entire life for just the chance to claim. While Peyton
Manning, Drew Brees, and Joe Montana are all pretty high on the totem pole, a totem
pole that stands colossal and robust, only one Quarterback can truly be named the
GOAT. The only Quarterback who truly possesses the firepower to claim this title is
none other than the most prominent; Tom Brady. Now for one to sit upon such a high
A Brief Note On The And Social Science
Introduction
Ethnographies are very important to social science. They help to dive into
different groups and culture s day to day lives and learn and understand the way
these groups and cultures live on a micro level. This helps those that are interested
to better understand the reasons behind why these groups are the way they are and
do the things they do. Ethnographies may take many different forms and take form
on many different topics. These topics can range anywhere from sororities or
fraternities to certain religions or cultures to cults or gangs and to many others. The
type of ethnography that will be discussed is one on gangs. Dr. Jody Miller is a
criminology professor at Rutgers University s School of Criminal Justice. She is ...

These patterns are explained by risk factors. Risk factors can be life events, living
conditions, peer groups, or even the neighborhood a child grows up in. For
example, a child that grows up in a house that is located in a rundown neighborhood.
He has no father figure and a mother that is never around. All of his friends have
either joined a gang and become a member or hang around gang members. This child
would be the most susceptible to end up joining a gang. As I mentioned earlier, this
gang involvement leads to delinquency, violence, and/or victimization. Delinquency
Delinquency is simply criminal behavior, whether it is shoplifting, doing drugs,
fighting, or vandalizing property, delinquency is the act of committing minor crimes.
This delinquent behavior is mainly committed by the younger population. All youths
can be a delinquent, but that doesn t necessarily mean that they are in a gang. Gang
membership is a major gateway for delinquent behavior. Dr. Jody Miller says that
studies show that young gang members are responsible for a substantially large
proportion of delinquent acts (Jody Miller, 2001). She uses the data from the
Rochester Youth Development study, Thornberry and Burch report to back this up.
This study shows that youth gang members, boys and girls, accounted for 86 percent
of all serious
The History Of Nurse Anesthesia
The history of nurse anesthesia cannot be accurately studied without a thorough
analysis of the pioneer and transformational leader, Alice Magaw. Charles Mayo
called her the Mother of Anesthesia for many good reasons (CRNA Profiles, n.d.).
It is worthy of the student anesthetist s time to study the life, education,
employment, leadership, publications, and legacy of Alice Magaw. Alice Magaw s
Biographical Information In 1860, Alice Magaw was born in Ohio (Nelson
Wilstead, 2009). For the majority of Magaw s childhood, she lived in Michigan
with her brothers and sisters (Nelson Wilstead, 2009). Magaw s father was in the
grocery business and one of his sons followed in his footsteps in this way
(Thatcher, 1953). Magaw was 22 years old when the family moved to Rochester,
Minnesota (Nelson Wilstead, 2009). The move was their last together before
some of Magaw s siblings began leaving home and Magaw s mother died (Nelson
Wilstead, 2009). Magaw died in Hudson, Wisconsin from complications related to
diabetes at the age of 68 (CRNA Profiles, n.d.; Nelson Wilstead, 2009). Magaw s
Education Magaw and her friend, Edith Graham, attended a two year nursing
program and graduated in 1889 from the Women s Hospital of Chicago school of
nursing (Nelson Wilstead, 2009). Some have reported that she was trained in the use
of a microscope to examine pathogens while in nursing school (Thatcher, 1953), but
others have written that she returned to school for this

Intercontinental Bridge
I. Introduction
Given a global context of cities historically and very purposefully being situated
along natural bodies of water to take advantage of vast natural resources, it is no
wonder that urban development, industrialization, and localized population rise have
increasingly implied the development of public works in these metropolises. Among
these works, infrastructures designed to facilitate transportation across, rather than
along, bodies of water such as rivers, straits, streams, etc., have proved paramount
for urban and economic growth and well being, allowing an ever growing workforce
to easily move both in and across cities core and peripheries. Istanbul is one such city,
where a present day metropolitan population of 17 million inhabitants heavily
occupies the banks of the Bosphorus strait a body of water that has both facilitated
and complicated the city s development.

Run Lola Run
In the film Run Lola Run the composer, Tom Tykwer, uses the story line to
emphasize how decisions made by an individual can have a drastic impact on the
lives and futures of those around them. Tykwer utilised distinctively visual
techniques of photographic montage and repeated yet slightly altered scenarios in
order to show the importance of Lola s decisions throughout each run of the film
scenario. The use of the repeated scenario, along with the rapidly shown still
photographic representations of the future in regards to people effected by the
character Lola s decisions the composer is able to put emphasis on the chain
reaction of effects based on Lola s actions. For example, in every run of the scenario,
Lola encounters a womanwith her
The Lottery By Shirley Jackson Analysis
In The Lottery, Shirley Jackson tells the story of a fictional village with a population
of about three hundred citizens in America, in which a mysterious event known as
the lottery takes place once a year. Jackson tells the story from a third person
objective point of view, meaning the narrator tells the story without knowing or
commenting on the inner thought of the characters, which makes the ending so
shocking. The lotteryas a whole is inhumane and cruel, but the people of the village
followed the ritual without question, not seeming to realize or care about the cruelty
of the system. The events of The Lottery are a classic example of how when told by
authority, people will ignore morals and ethics and do as told without... Show more

The Civil Rights Movement was gaining massive attention with the public and the
government, with 1948 being the year that discrimination was banned in the
United States Armed Forces. (American Civil Right Timeline) This was also the
year that Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated. On January 26, 1948, Nathuram
Godse, a Hindu nationalist, killed Gandhi due to his acceptance of Muslims and
non violent outlook. Israel was also declared as an independent state, sparking the
Arab Israeli War, and Czechoslovakia became a communist state. In addition, 1948
marked the beginning of the policy of apartheid in South Africa. The Lottery takes
place in a small village of only three hundred people in America. The beginning of
the story sets a scene of a beautiful summer day in which the flowers are in full
bloom and everyone is out and about, getting prepared for the mysterious event
only referred to as the lottery. The children are depicted collecting stones, but no
reason for this is given. The leader of the village s coal business, Mr. Summers, and
other men of the village prepare for the lottery as a crowd gathers. They bring out a
black box containing slips of paper. A woman named Mrs. Hutchinson hurries over,
apparently late. Mr. Summers takes role and after role is taken, one person from each
Occupational Stress Essay
Job stress has proven to be a difficult issue to tackle. Unlike physical or chemical
hazards, there is not an obvious tangible hazardous agent. This issue has also been
preempted by corporate stress management, health promotion, or employee assistance
programs, which explain stress as a purely personal reaction, and often treat the
symptoms, not the causes, of job stress. The occupational stress field also has been
plagued by a variety of definitions and difficulties in measurement of
stress.(Buunk,De Jong,Y Bemas De wolff,1998) In addition, changes in job designor
work organization are often inherently more systems challenging and require more
radical restructuring of workplaces than reducing levels of exposure to toxic

of transaction between an individual goals and the environment. The transaction

Wasps Research Paper
When one considers important events in US history, things like the American
Revolution, the Westward Expansion, or the Civil Rights Movement come to
mind. One in particular that I find compelling, is the creation of the Women
Airforce Service Pilots better known as WASPs, during World War II. I find it
interesting because prior to this time and after this period, woman had a very
limited social status. But for a brief time in the 1940s, women achieved not only job
equality but went above and beyond what society expected in many areas. The
WASPs were one such group who broke barriers in more ways than one.

represent equality in the military work force, they also represent something
greater: Women following their passions and dreams. Anything is possible! If you

be true to yourself and someday, with hard work and persistence, you too can fly

have always dreamt of being a pilot. I wanted to learn more about where it all

The Puritan Views Of Puritans
The Puritans led their lives according to a strict moral code, centered around religion,
which they had followed and conformed to. In addition conformity, Puritans believed,
was crucial to uniting the community, and therefore resulted in anti individualistic
beliefs. However, when they deviated from the religious code they were threatened
with banishment from the community and often experienced public shaming. Also
the Puritans, whom had come to the colonies seeking religious freedom for
themselves, cultivated a society that was intolerant of the practice of religious
freedom for others. The Puritaninfluence enabled conformist tendencies based around
a religious moral code which did not tolerate for deviation of Puritan beliefs that
ultimately sacrificed individualism. The banishment of Anne Hutchinson and Roger
Williams, due to beliefs that differed from the Puritan s, exemplified the intolerance
of individualism as accounted for in The Journal of John Winthrop. Roger Williams
had been condemned (Winthrop 106) by the most judicious ministers (106) who
ordered that Williams should be convented at the next court to be censured (106).
Ordering Williams to be censured demonstrated the Puritan leaders demand of
conformity, as the leaders censured him for his presumption that did not follow their
anti individualistic views. In fact, Williams had drawn above 20 persons to his
opinion, (Winthrop 107) conveying others had similar opinions, that allowed for

The United States Postal Service Vs. Theu.s.
The United States Postal Service Versus the United States Army
The United States (U.S.) Army and the United States Postal Service (USPS) are
both great organizations to work for. The USPS delivers mail to virtually every
household and business nearly every day. The USPS handbook states that the
organization processes and delivers more than 167 billion pieces of mail, letters,
cards, ads, bills payments, and packages every year (Sales and Associate Handbook 1
1). On the other hand, the Army s mission is to support and defend the Constitution
of the United States. The Army also helps with natural disasters, providing security for
events. Both government occupations provide great benefits, job security, and little
training. The two jobs are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unlike the Army, the Unites States Postal Service does not provide any physical
fitness guidance to employees nor does it require employees to conduct physical
fitness training. Dennis Damp states in his book, Post Office Jobs, Employees
must be in suitable shape to complete tasks in a timely manner (30). Damp also
says, Employees must collect and deliver mail and walk routes that require
prolonged standing, walking, reaching, and have the ability to lift 70 pounds (38).
Employees are also required to carry a mail bag, weighing as much as thirty five
pounds (Damp 38). The employees at both jobs may be injured or seriously hurt if
not in suitable shape for the job, because they both require strenuous exercise.
There are differences between the USPS and the Army, notably regarding the overall
stress levels. When working for the USPS, the employees are faced with many
stressors throughout the day. The Safety Talks Publication states, Employees have the
stress of delivering mail in a timely and efficient manner, while dealing with weather
conditions, stray animals, and disgruntled customers (256). According to the
database, Promoting Sun Safety Among Letter Carriers, Outdoor carriers have a
higher chance of developing skin cancer because employees receive six to eight
times more UVR (559). The Field Accounting Procedures Handbook states,
Heredity and Hormones Effect on Behavior Essay
Human behavior has been a mystery to scientists and psychologists for years. What
causes humans to act the way they do? Is it learned by experience, or inherited from
prior generations? The human brain is a complex machine driven by numerous
intangibles that influence our thinking process directly and indirectly.
The endocrine system in the human body stores a chemical known as hormones.
Hormones are released by endocrine glands into the bloodstream and travel
throughout the body carrying messages. A hormonal impulse is similar to a nerve
impulse only much slower. The messages carried by the hormones trigger different
behaviors. Hormones can affect behavior in many ways such as: Mental activity or
tiredness, boredom or excitement, sexual ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both glands produce two distinct hormones, but produce differing amounts of each
hormone. Masculine hormones such as androgens and testosterone are
predominately produced by male testes. These hormones at high levels can be
related to aggressive behavior regardless of sex, but high levels are most commonly
found in males. High levels of feminine hormones or estrogen, most commonly
found in females, have recently been linked to aggressive behavior as well. While
high levels of estrogen in females and high levels of testosterone in males have been
linked to aggressive behavior, normal levels of these hormones have been known to
cause aggression as well. Although these hormones have been related to human
behavior, scientists have concluded that these hormones alone do not dictate behavior
(Morris Maisto, 2005).
Adrenal glands, located near the kidneys, secrete several hormones that are activated
by the nervous system. These hormones dictate the body s reaction to stressful
situations. Each person secretes a different amount of hormones, therefore affecting
behavior in stressful situations differently (Morris Maisto, 2005).
Behavior is party affected by human hormones present in the body built from genetic
traits inherited from the individual s parents. The genetic makeup of an individual
combined with a certain environment, can affect behavior. Geneticsis the science of
analyzing traits inherited through generations. These traits are determined by genes

Lithium Ion Batteries Are Made From Lithium
Lithium ion batteries are made from lithium; hence the name. Since lithium is an
unstable metal, lithium ions must be made through chemicals. Lithium is used
because it is the lightest metal with the highest electrochemical potential. Inside these
batteries are a positive electrode called the cathode, an anodeor the negative electrode
and lithium ions. Theses lithium ions move from the negative electrode to the
positive when it s being used and vice versa when it s being charged. For the
electrodes not to be combined, there is a separator in between the negative and
positive electrodes. Another type of battery is a alkaline batteries, which is made
out zinc and manganese dioxide. Alkaline batteries works like other batteries.
There is a negative electrode, zinc powder, a positive electrode, manganese dioxide,
an electrolyte, potassium hydroxide, a separator, and a brass pin. Once the
electrolytes are added, a chemical reaction happens when the manganese dioxide
oxidizes and allows the zinc and manganese dioxide to combine to form electricity in

The Population Of Japan And Japan
This graph illustrates that the population of Japan has aged at a rate that is not
what is generally seen, even in other countries which have large numbers of the
population approaching retirement age. It is marked by two age group crests ; the
first of which can be seen between the ages of 60 to 69, and the second crest can be
seen peaking between ages 40 to 44.
The Statistics Bureau of Japan estimates that the population of people over the age of
65 comprises 25.8 per cent of the total population of the country currently, and as
the second age crest reaches retirement age in the next 20 years, the ratio of people
over 65 will reach a new high. This will not only be the result of this second crest
being larger in scale relative to younger generations, but also because life expectancy
in Japan is currently at 85 (The World Bank Group) and projected to rise to 87 in the
next decade, meaning that these crests will need to be supported by the working
population simultaneously.
This aging generation is not inherently negative for the economy, of course. The
other aspects of Japanese demographic indicators are what makes this aging
alarming and pose a serious danger to the future of the Japanese economy. While
not the focus of this paper, it is worth discussing the population growth of Japan.
While the near future will undoubtedly face a greater burden as the first age bracket
reaches retirement age, the worst hardship will arise in 20 years. The horizon of 20
years is

Synopsis: It is the year of 2050; earth s resources are dwindling. As the population
increases, society is panicking as to how they are supposed to survive on earth, being
that their pure existence has consumed almost all of the necessities to live on the
planet. Now the question is, what do they do now? We have been in search of a
habitable planet to live on. Robotic missions will be key to researching, gathering
data, and figuring out if life on another planet is a plausible option. Radiation
exposure and the weather in space are big concerns as to if the human race will be
able to even establish planet that is safe to inhabit. Will the human race survive?
Research Topic: Effect of Long Term Space Flight The thought of traveling to
another planet has always been so intriguing. Imagine, being light years away from
this rather small planet in comparison to others in our same solar system. Living in

The Nez Zealand Government Essay
Topic 1 According to the Nez Zealand government, a company will only be
considered as a company in New Zealand after it has been registered with the
company s office which administers the register of companies In New Zealand. In
New Zealand, a company must have at least one director who lives in New
Zealand or lives in Australia and is a director of an Australian company. The
directors are required to provide their date of birth, place of birth and sometimes
they need to provide the details of their ultimate holding company. Unlike sole
traders or partnerships, the company itself operates as a separate legal entity to its
shareholders. It owns its assets and liabilities whereas a sole trader is liable for all
the assets and liabilities directly. This feature of the companies is called limited
liability, this means that shareholders in the company can only be liable and can
only lose the value of their shares and not more than the value of their shares.
However on the other hand, directors are liable for the debts incurred by the
business if their conduct of the business is believed to be fraudulent, reckless and
not in the company s interest. Lastly companies are taxed at the company tax rate
which is 28% in New Zealand currently. The profits made by the company are taxed
to the individuals. Having a company has a lot of advantaged mainly having an
advantage accessing investments and also gaining more credibility and is more

hobby... until Perestroika came. Perestroika in the former Soviet Union brought a
lot of chaos into people s lives with its downed factories, unemployment and crazy
inflation. Many people lost their jobs and had no means to make money, including
my Mom. And this is where, I am proud to say, my Mom, by tapping into her
creativity, was able to find a solution in this quite desperate situation she
transformed her sewing hobby into a business. And did it prosper! The timing for it
was just right there were no women s clothe on the market because all Soviet
factories had closed, and there were no goods yet being imported from other

beginning of 2012, Martin Scott, the CEO and half owner of Alhambra Software
Solutions, reflected on the situation of the company. He was proud that the
organization had followed an ascendant path throughout the previous years, and
had not been hit by the devastating effects of the internationalized economic crisis.
Alhambra Software Solutions had registered tremendous increases in employees,
revenues, as well as customers served and projects completed. From the outside, it
all looked impressive and the company seemed flawless. Still, Scott was worried
by the fact that two of his senior software developers had handed in their
resignations that morning. Michael Tors and Janine Moss had been with the
company since its early stages; they had grown within Alhambra Software
Solutions ever since they had graduated from university, to this day, when they are
reputable and valuable senior developers. The decisions of Tors and Moss
intrigued the chief executive officer, who had always believed that the firm had
created a positive working environment for its employees. Still, looking back, he
now realizes that Tors and Moss were not the single senior software developers who
left the firm. In fact, there were several seniors that had left the company in the past
year, and if he recollects well the majority of the new people hired, were mainly
junior developers. Reflecting on the situation,
Persuasive Essay On Cosmetic Surgery
Cosmetic Surgery: Liposuction Contemporary society is more widely accepting of
cosmetic surgery as normal compared to the past. In the modern world, people are
highly concerned with appearances, features, attractiveness and insecurities, and
believe the solution to these problems is cosmetic surgery. People are willing to
undergo cosmetic procedures despite many of the possible complications. Liposuction
is one most common cosmetic procedures patients choose to undergo in the U.S.
Liposuction, or lipoplasty, is the removal of fat from the body. Patients elect to
undergo this surgerybecause they are seeking more aesthetically pleasing body
shapes, and it is important to know that it is not a substitute for weight loss.
Liposuction is simply the reshaping or molding of body parts. The abdomen, butt,
and thighs are some of the most common areas of the body that liposuction is
performed on. The best candidates for liposuction are people who have good
elasticity and skin tone, where the skin molds itself into new contours (Nordqvist).
The procedure includes an anesthesia, general or local, depending on the amount of
fat that is being removed. Then, small incisions are made in discreet spots of the
targeted area of fat removal (Jones). The incisions are typically less than an inch in
length. Next, a cannula, a small tube, is inserted into the incisions to loosen the fat by
moving it back and forth, and it is then suctioned out using a surgical vacuum or
syringe attached to
When Looking Into Battered Woman Syndrome It Is A

When looking into Battered Woman Syndrome it is a relatively new defense and
standing point in the court of law compared to other methods. This defense has
also gained a ton of scrutiny in its time as it is a very vague defense and can be
used in a multitude of situations in which it does not exactly apply as it would to
others. I personally feel that this defense can be very helpful to women who truly
need it, and it provides a cover for women who truly don t need to be protected and
need to be persecuted to the fullest extent of the law for the crimes which they have
committed. This is something we went over for a journal and it interested me a great
deal, especially with the case of Susan Wright. In the first article by... Show more

American Social Class Differences
Social Class Differences According to Brenda Allen in her book Difference

stratification system that is one of the biggest predictors of academic achievement. It
is widely held in the US that the more financial, cultural, and social capital
(Bourdieu) you have, the more likely you will get a better quality educationthat will
lead to a higher paying job. In the film, Idris and Seun come from different class
backgrounds. Even though they are both considered as members of the middle
class, Idris seems to have more capital because both of his parents are successful
professionals who are Ivy League graduates. Seun s parents do not have the
prestigious Ivy League background that Idris s parents do, but they are graduates of

current anti obesity medications that inhibit food intake or absorption are partly

Accordingly, AMPK, PGC1пЃЎпЂ and their thermogenic target, the uncoupling
protein 1 (UCP1) are dramatically upregulated in K1 KO adipose tissues. Moreover,
IP6K1 generated IP7 inhibits AMPK activity in vitro. Based on these preliminary
results, our working hypothesis is that IP6K1 regulates energy metabolism by
inhibiting the AMPK PGC1пЃЎ pathway. To test this, we will measure core body
temperature; пЃў oxidation and browning in adipose depots of K1 KO mice fed a
high fat diet or exposed to cold stress. We will measure пЃў oxidation and
mitochondrial respiration in K1 KO adipocytes and in inducible IP6K1 knock down
adipocyte cell lines. Utilizing enzyme assays and hydrogen deuterium exchange
(HDX) studies, we will determine the molecular mechanism by which IP6K1/IP7
inhibits AMPK. Furthermore, we will monitor the AMPK stimulator; 5
Aminoimidazole 4 carboxamide ribonucleotide (AICAR) mediated пЃў oxidation and
insulin sensitivity in K1 KO mice. Successful completion of this aim will establish
IP6K1 as a novel regulator of energy expenditure.
Aim 2: Identify functions of IP6K1 in lipolysis. K1 KO mice exhibit enhanced
fasting induced weight loss. They also display enhanced basal lipolysis and
downregulation of the lipolytic modulator perilipin1 (PLIN1) in the adipose tissues.
IP6K1 possesses a lipase motif by which it binds and stabilizes PLIN1. PKA (Protein
kinase A) phosphorylates IP6K1 especially during пЃў adrenergic receptor (пЃў AR)
Essay on Standardized Test
Standardized Test Standardized test have been a means measuring student
performance. Some important questions that always come up regarding standardized
test are what are the tests really measuring? Are they measuring a person s
intelligence? Their ability to perform well on standardized tests? Or just some
random quantity of the person s IQ? When examining the issues around which these
tests are given and the content of the tests themselves, it becomes apparent that
however useful the tests may be for standardizing a group s intellectual ability, they
are not a good indicator of intelligence.
To issue a truly standardized test, the testing environment should be the same for
everyone involved. A person s environment... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

What about physical intelligence, conversational intelligence, social intelligence,
survival intelligence, and the others that go into everyday life? Why are these
important traits not figured into intelligence tests? Standardized tests certainly get
predictable results where academics are concerned, but they should not be
considered good indicators of general intelligence because of the omissions they
make in the testing process. To really gauge a person s intelligence, it would be
necessary to put them through a rigorous set of real life trials and document their
performance. The standardized IQ tests of today are test only a limited quality of a
person s character that can hardly be referred to as intelligence. Standardized test
also have no way to compensate for cultural differences. Different cultures have
different methods of solving problems, and speediness is not always the best way to
tackle a problem. Therefore the time limitations on standardized test are a major
drawback.
The reasons that IQ tests fail at their task can be separated into two main groups. The
first grouping is where the tests assume too much. Examples of this are the
assumption that speed is always good, vocabulary is a good indicator of intelligence,
and that different test taking environments won t affect the outcome. The second
grouping comes because the tests gauge the wrong items. Examples of this are
different culture groups being asked to take the
the aztec and maya Essay
The Aztec and Maya were both American Indian people. The Aztec were ruled by a
mighty empire in Mexico during the 1400 s and early 1500 s. The Maya however,
developed a magnificent civilization in Central America and Southern Mexico. Both
civilizations contributed a great deal to the modern world and invented items that are
still used today.
According to the Aztec Legend, the ancestors of the people who founded
Tenochtitlan, came to the Valley of Mexico. The Aztec wandered for many years
before settling in the valley in 1200 s. At first, they were subjects of people who
lived in the area, but later, in the mid 1300 s, the Aztec founded their own city,

As a result of this, the Maya stopped construction work in their cities and halted the
erection of stelae. After a short period of time, the Maya civilization recovered and
continued to grow for another 300 years. Today people are still trying to discover
the reasons for the collapse of the Teotihuacan. They believe it may be due or caused
by disease, crop failure, and the movement of other groups into the Maya area.
The culture of these two civilizations are also similar and different in many ways.
Religion was very important in the lives of the Aztec as well as the Maya. Both
civilizations worshiped many gods. The Aztec and Maya worshiped gods such as
the corn god. They believed in this god, because the economy of both civilizations
was based on farming. The Family life was also similar. The typical Aztec and
Maya households consisted of both families, and all members of the extended
family, such as the husband s relatives. Each member of the family helped with
most of the work. The husband s responsibilities were to support the family usually
by doing craft work. The wife s duties included weaving the families clothing, and
cooking their food. However, the Maya had no schools. The children learned various
skills by observing adults and helping them. On the other hand, the Aztec s did things
differently. Boys were educated by their father until about the age of 10. Then they

Comparison Of Short And Long Term Memory
Inside out Paper
After a memory is created it is important to know how our brain stores these
memories (Mohs, 2007). In this paper, the importantance of comparing short term
memory to long term memory will be analyzed. Throughout life we have millions of
memories, but the different steps of short and long term memory help us filter those
memories (Mohs, 2007). As our brain sorts through the memories to preserve, it
begins the process of filtering them from short to long term. Short term memory is
held for short periods of time before being discarded or moved to long term memory.
Short term memory is also referred to as working memory. When additional
information is added to the basic thought or short term memory it is then transferred
into long term memory. Long term memory is the final step in retaining information
for longer periods of time (Rahtus, 2010).
Short term memory is gathered and used for brief amounts of time. As a result, it
will decline rapidly from our brain within a few moments. Items can be retained in
short term memory when strategies such as rehearsal are implemented (Ruthus,
2010). Daily routines including: school, work and, play involve short term memory.
Southtree states, that people have an average of 70,000 thoughts during our wake
and sleep cycles (Macco s, 2017). Our brain immediately begins to filter these
thoughts to forget or to use in short term. As Riley initially began looking at her
room, she started to place her furniture in the space
Federico Garcia Lorca s Blood Wedding
In today s society, people s images are constructed by social media. On the internet,
people can become whoever they want to be, whether what is posted on their
profile is true or a misperception. Examples of this include editing pictures so that
the person in the picture, is not what is seen in real life. Everybody wants to be the
ideal image of the standards of society, and whether they know it or not, it is so
that they fit in. Humans naturally want to be accepted by each other, but this
results in individuals not being their true selves but becoming a fake persona. This
has not only occurred in society today, but it is also demonstrated in Blood
Wedding, where one s image, is not their true self. In Blood Wedding by Federico
Garcia Lorca, archetypes, foils, and figurative language are used, to convey how
society s standards alter one s perspective and falsifies one s appearance.
In Blood Wedding, archetypes are used to exemplify the societal standards and roles
that individuals filled living in the time period. For example, the mother of the
Bridegroom question him about his bride asking, Three years. Didn t she used to
have somebody else at that time? (Garcia Lorca 1.1.4). For a women around the
Spanish Civil War time period, it was expected that she... Show more content on

Having societal standards creates people who cannot reach their full potential
because of a fear of being different. Having variations in society scare people. For
example, those who have disorders are treated differently than the average
individual. People who dress differently or express themselves freely are always
looked at differently. The differences that are seen and most of all judged, make for
an undifferentiated and fake society full of lies and misperception. To counteract this,
differences must be welcomed and viewed as beneficial to the

one that occupies an area or boundary between the personal unconscious and the

Trinity, as a three figure, is incomplete. Jung writes, the number three is not a natural

wholeness in the human psyche. If one were to re arrange the name Neo slightly, it

Early resistance of the ego characters occurs after Neo s initial recruitment by

stage! It was even harder, as I was in the United States and had no one to support.
Therefore, I planned to give up, leave a wonderful clinical opportunity, prepone my

for airport, I witnessed an incident of seizures in 7 to 8 years old boy, which
refreshed my objectives.
My path to medicine started as a result of suffering of one of my close friend, when
there was no one there to understand reason of his silence. Nonetheless, topic of
sexual harassment and victimization is a taboo in the underserved areas of
developing countries. The only person who could understand his silence was the
primary care physician, practicing in the neighborhood. That particular incident
diverted my attention towards Medicine. Medicine in my life has never been for me

out a compassionate hand to Emily. While the townspeople choose to stay on the
outer circle of human contact, Homer, on the other hand, pursues his curiosity and
engages in a personal friendship with Emily. Faulkner tells the reader how Homer
takes Emily for buggy rides and, according to the townspeople, has been seen
going into Emily s house. Homer has really stirred up the gossips of the town as
they discuss whether or not it is proper for Emily to so closely relate to a
Northerner, who is considered below her social class. While Homer develops a
relationship with Emily, he does not realize what emotional state Emily is in and
does not offer the help this poor distraught lady so desperately needs. Homer,
knowingly or not, misses an opportunity to change Emily s life forever. Faulkner
may be suggesting that just being involved in someone s life casually falls short of
how human beings should be involved in others lives.
The second part of human nature that Faulkner explores is
Persuasive Essay On The Fifth Amendment
As we sit and watch some of your favorite television shows, Blue Bloods, Criminal
Minds, and The Blacklist, we can catch the prominent phrases, right to remain silent...
and/or I plead the fifth in one or two scenes leading to interrogation. Although the
television shows are fiction, the statements are factual and are part of the U.S.
Constitution to protect a person against self incrimination. Self incrimination plays a
vast part of the Bill of Right, specifically the Fifth Amendment. The Fifth Amendment
has protected many Americans from punishment. Yet, this Amendment also has made
it possible for guilty verdicts in criminal cases. This was possible with the historical
adoption of the Fifth Amendment, the implementation of the five different clauses,
and numerous criminal cases that established the strength of the Fifth Amendment.
The philosophies behind the Fifth Amendment traced back to Magna Carta, 1215. The
Magna Carta specified that No person shall ... be deprived of life, liberty, or property,
without due process of law ... . Although England s King John did not agree to the
term willingly, the Magna Carta was signed in hope to build a relationship between
the King and the nobles and keep the peace. Unfortunately, the signed Magna Carta
annulled by Pope Innocent II. In 1613, Sir Edward Coke also advocated for the
Magna Carta as part of his approach toward the power struggle of the courts. Coke
argued that all matters needed to be addressed through the law of the
The Impacts Of Wind Energy
MOHAMMED ALGHAMDI ENGLISH CAMP 1 (Final draft) 11/20/2017 Wind
energy Wind energy is the application of air flow by use of wind turbines up to the
mechanically powered generators to produce electric power. The wind energy is
used as fuels of burnt fossils because its clean, plenty, it s distributed widely,
renewable, it doesn t consume water and doesn t produce greenhouse gases (Wolff
Meyer, 2016). The effects of wind energy to the environment are less problematic
as compared to the power sources that are non renewable. Wind farms u are usually
comprised of many wind turbines that are individually connected to the electric
energy transmission networks. Wind is known to be the cheapest electric energy
source compared to other sources like coal the gas plants. The offshore wind is
usually stronger and stronger than inland. The offshore farms also have less of an
illustration effect but the maintenance and construction costs are regarded to be
great (Association, 2015). Smaller onshore farms of wind can feed some power to
the grid and give electric energy to the remote off grid areas. Wind energy provides
a changeable power that is very reliable from one year to another but that with
important difference over scales of a shorter time. It s used in combination with
additional sources of electric energy to provide a consistent supply. While the amount
of wind energy in each, region increases, it necessitates the upgrading of the grid
Misconceptions Of Nitrates And Nitrites
The Misconception Concerning Nitrates and Nitrites With new advances in
technology and innovations in the medical field, the implementation of chemicals
and preservatives into consumables has changed the way food is manufactured.
Recently, negative light has surrounded the products that include these additives.
More specifically, the consumption of nitrates and nitrites has caught the attention of
many and led to further investigations concerning this topic to decipher the possible
health risks or benefits that can come from their ingestion. The usage of nitrates and
nitrites in products has a negative connotation, however, it only poses a threat in
specific conditions, and is otherwise proved to have beneficial and common traits.
These specific... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nitrates and nitrites are added to processed meat in order to preserve their color and
prolong their shelf life. When exposed to the protein, or amino acids, in these meats,
they are capable of forming compounds called nitrosamines when exposed to high
temperatures (Healthy Child Healthy World). Cooking processed meat creates the
perfect conditions for nitrosamines, which can be lethal carcinogens. More recently,
the government has mandated that the manufacturers add Vitamin C, which inhibits
nitrosamine formation (National Center for Biotechnology Information). This shows
that the processed meats being manufactured daily have been regulated to
significantly decrease the probability of the negative effects of chemicals such as
nitrate and nitrite. By moderation and awareness, these issues can easily be avoided
and even seem insignificant. An individual could manage their consumption of meat
and choose organic, lean subsitutes, or even consume more
Aztec Tribe Essay
The Aztec tribe was established during the 14th century in Mesoamerica. They were
connected with their use of the Nahuatl language. This tribe eventually grew to
become one of the great empires. It became possible with the Aztec Triple Alliance
consisting of the Tenochtitlan, Texcoco, and Tlacopan. The Aztec
Empire was a
crucial part of the history of North America
A map of the Aztec empire can be considered by some to be a tricky thing to
understand. This is mainly because the nations of Central Mexico didn t have exact
borders as countries often do today. Instead, the Aztec empire was more an alliance
of city states. Each of these cities had areas of influence and control. Also, the areas
of Aztec influence differed in that some areas were areas of direct ... Show more

The teams would face each other on the court. The object at the end was to get the
ball through the stone hoop. This was extremely difficult, and so if it actually
happened the game would be over. In fact, according to historian Manuel Aguilar
Morenao, some courts didn t even have rings. Another important rule was that the
ball was never allowed to touch the ground. Players couldn t hold or even touch the
ball with their hands only the elbows, knees, hips and head were used. As you may
imagine, this made for a very fast paced game, and the players had to constantly
throw themselves against the surface of the court to keep the ball from landing.
The players were skillful, and the ball could stay in the air for an hour or more
(Cottrill). Because it was so hard to get the ball through the hoops, there were
other objects as well. Players could hit one of the six markers along the sides of the
court. Or, they would be given points for other skillful plays. Fouls were also given
if the players couldn t get the ball across the center line, or if they touched the ball
with the wrong part of the body, such as the hand or calf
Literary Analysis of No Name Woman
A short literary analysis of Maxine Kingston s classic No Name Woman As part of the
first generation of Chinese Americans, Maxine Hong Kingston writes about her
struggle to distinguish her cultural identity through an impartial analysis of her aunt s
denied existence. In No Name Woman, a chapter in her written memoirs, Kingston
analyzes the possible reasons behind her disavowed aunt s dishonorable pregnancy
and her village s subsequent raid upon her household. And with a bold statement that
shatters the familyrestriction to acknowledge the exiled aunt, Kingston states that, ...
[she] alone devote pages of paper to her [aunt]... With this premeditated declaration,
Kingston rebelliously breaks the family s cultural taboo to... Show more content on

Don t humiliate us. You wouldn t like to be forgotten as if you had never been born.
The villagers are watchful. Practically through her mother s indoctrination alone,
Kingston was shaped throughout her childhood to respect honor, family, and the very
Chinese culture itself. Kingston s mother had once told her, you must not tell anyone
[about your aunt], and yet in direct defiance, Kingston then devote[s] pages of paper
to her [aunt]. Her actions which defy her mother s strict order are purposely directed
through her rebellious intention to do so. Kingston argues that the emigrant
generation, which consisted of her mother, had taken their culture with them because
those in the emigrant generations who could not reassert brute survival died young
and far from home. Yet raising their progeny, they must teach them what they know
and understand. Kingston therefore believes that they must try to confuse their
offspring as well, who, I suppose, threaten them in similar ways always trying to get
things straight, always trying to name the
Comparing Livy And Aeneas And The Ancient World
There are really only two ways that history can withstand the test of time; that is for
stories to be passed down to each generation by speech, or for those stories to be
written so they can be cemented in history for eternity. Much to all of what is
known about Rome and the ancient world has been traveled down by great works
of art and literature. More importantly, the feelings towards each one of these
cultures is essentially a direct product of what is read. This only stresses the
importance of Livy and Aeneas literary works about the pre history of Rome. Both
Livy and Aeneas constructed masterworks of literature that would be read by man
for over two millennia. What these two authors composed would shape and
construct what it truly meant to be Roman, not only to those living during the era,
but to those living in the far future as well. The straight facts about past kings by
Livy, and the telling tale of an epic hero named Aeneas by Virgil both portrayed the
importance of pietas and military fortitude. On the one hand, there is pietas; now
seen as one of the highest virtues of ancient Romans, a value that signifies respect
and duty to the gods, family, and country above thyself. While military fortitude, or
the act of being courageous in spite of the pain or harm that may ensue, was another
theme that Livy and Virgil both interacted with that would change how Romans are
viewed forever. These two authors would come to write works of art that are in two

Finally, looking at Leemore S. Dafny (2005) empirical examination of the effect
rival hospital mergers have on a firm s own price. Dafny broke this experiment up
into three distinct phases: 1985 1988 pre period , 1988 1997 treatment period ,
and 1997 2000 post period to show the relationship between price growth and rival
co location. Dafny notes that previous observational studies on the impact of
mergers have ignored selection problems and reported biased estimates. Specifically,
factors that are correlated with the outcome measure as well as with the probability
of merger will generate biased estimates of the impact of merger (Dafny 2005, 2). To
generate unbiased estimates Dafny uses a combination of rival analysis and... Show

This sector is selected because, the assumption of co location being uncorrelated
with factors related to price growth in the hospitals area would be violated if
hospitals prior to 1988 moved to an area because they expected prices to increase
during 1988 1996. Since the acute care hospital industry has not experience many
entries since the Hospital Survey and Construction Act of 1946, and less than one
percent of hospitals had rivals exit during the study period, the author concludes the
assumption holds. The dataset is constructed using panel data and then separated into
two samples: All Hospitals and Rival Sample.
All Hospitals, is comprised of 4,487 hospitals with data for all independent
variables, more than 100,000 residents in its counties or metropolitan area, are non
federal, and present in the 1988 American Hospital Association Survey. Rival
Sample, contains only non merging hospitals from the All Hospitals sample with
two or more rivals within 7 miles during 1988. The reasoning behind two or more
rivals is that if non merging hospital has less than two rivals then it cannot
experience a rival merger. While the rationale for 7 miles is due to this small area
when adjacent hospitals merge, it is reasonable to expect an effect on the prices of
rivals. The Rival Sample is then broken down into two subdivisions: 118 hospitals
with merging rivals (NMW) and 759 hospitals without merging rivals (NMWO). The
need for the distinction between NMWs and NMWOs is because
The During Battle And The War Wars
From the beginning of time, war has been used to conquer lands, establish order,
enforce rules and settle disagreements. Over time, war tactics have progressed and
become more organized and efficient in accomplishing the goal of defeating the
enemy. There are thousands of advances in strategies used during battle and the war
wars are fought are have constantly changed. Looking back to when organized war
truly began many distinct, and commonly used, improvements can be seen. Such as,
chariots, hoplites, phalanxes, war elephants, and siege engines. Humans have always
been fascinated with speed and are constantly seeking ways to move faster. The
invention of the wheelgave birth to practical forms of transportation. Once the chariot

The walls of the chariot, or the box, were generally leather with a lightweight
wooden frame. Within the box were two men, a driver and a warrior. Projecting
from the chariot was a long pole angled upward and attached to a yoke , which was
mounted on the horses backs. At first there were two horses pulling each chariot, it
is believed later on the setup was changed to fit four horses. On the right side of the
chariot, the driver s job was to control the horses and to get the warrior in the best
position to make his attacks. His attacks could be made with a bow and arrow, spear,
mace, sword or dagger, however the bow was normally a prime choice for the
average warrior. A typical warrior riding into battle was in full armor and ready to
defend his chariot at all costs. The use of chariots spread very quickly as their
effectiveness was easily recognizable. The Shang of China adopted the concept of
chariots and modified them to fit three men. These three men were made up of a
driver, a warrior and his servant whose role was to replenish his arrows and have
weapons ready for his use at all times. In the Chinese culture, the chariots were used
as a way to jump into a new social class as well. Horses were so rare to own and
expensive to acquire that only the few who were wealthy enough to buy horses were
able to be noble

Garfield founded Kaiser Permanente in 1945 after the derivation of Kaiser industrial companies insurance consortium called Industrial Indemnity in the 1930s. The industrial heath care program was put into place for construction, shipyard, and steel mill workers for the Kaiser industrial companies as a workers compensation obligation. Dr. Sidney Garfield saw the construction of the Colorado River Aqueduct Project as an opportunity to treat sick and injured construction workers. He then contracted with Henry J. Kaiser industries and built the Contractors General Hospital in a small town called Desert Center, California. In the height of the Great Depression, a time of economic devastation, it was extremely hard for patients and even insurance companies to pay their expenses. Kaiser Permanenteput into place the prepayment system, where insurance companies were required to pay a fixed amount per day at the cost of five cents from insured workers . After the construction of the Colorado Aqueduct Project, Dr. Garfield s efforts continued in Washington state where the Grand Coulee Dam was being built. The Kaiser Company contracted with Dr. Garfield to reproduce the same project at Colorado River Aqueduct in California this time at Mason City Hospital. Unlike the Colorado River Aqueduct project, the workers on the Grand Coulee Dam brought their families with them. Unions forced the Kaiser Company to insure their dependents and this marked the

  • 4. Clueless Use Of Film Techniques In Jane Austen s Emma How does the composer of Clueless use film techniques to transform the social, historical and environmental context of Jane Austen s Emma to the modern context of Clueless? Amy Heckerling s Clueless involves a storyline, which closely follows the text of Jane Austen s novel Emma. However, there are some key points of difference in the transformation that has taken place. This is due to the individual context of the nineteenth century prose text and that of the modern appropriated film text. The context can be divided into three focal categories, the social, historical and environmental context. In order to be able to address the question, these three groupings must be identified accordingly. Social context refers to the life and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The strict class hierarchy of Highbury allows for little social mobility or interaction. When Emma is in need of a new match making candidate to ensue the success of her last project involving Mr Weston and his new wife, formerly Miss Taylor, she says to her father and also Mr. Knightley who both disagree with her on the subject of interfering in people s own affairs: Only one more, papa; only for Mr. Elton! You like Mr. Elton, papa, I must look about for a wife for him. There is nobody in Highbury who deserves him and he has been here a whole year, and has fitted up his house so comfortably that it would be a shame to have him single any longer and I thought when he was joining their hands to day, he looked so very much as if he would like to have the same kind office done for him! (Pages 14 15) I think very well of Mr. Elton, and this is the only way I have of doing him a service. This passage reveals the significance Emma places in status or that it is only acceptable to marry into one s own

This time would be different due to the peculiar situation of those villages. The cities of Dondon and San Rafael used the former bridgefor many purposes like to take children to school, go to the doctor appointments and day by day displacements. The old bridge had fallen three years ago during a tropical storm. Since that day, people used a ford path in the river to cross. They really needed that bridge. PUTTING THE PLAN IN PRACTICE Finally, our platoon arrived at the bridge place. Already on arrival, we realized the first problem. The road that led to the bridge was very narrow. This greatly hindered the way that we had to put our bridge material on the ground. Looking around us, we realized we had a solution. • 8. I Have A Good Idea Of My Stress When it comes to wellness issues, I have always struggled the most with stress. I have always been more prone to become stressed, due to my anxiety. Therefore, stress is a big obstacle in my life, and it is something that I need to find a way to deal with, especially now that I have begun to attend college. Because I have dealt with anxiety before, I have a good idea of my stress level. My stress levels can become very high, and as a result, I have several ways of dealing with stress. As a result, I am familiar with some of the techniques mentioned in the textbook. For example, exercising has always been an effective stress technique for me. As mentioned in the textbook, performing exercises such as running and walking on a regular basis has been an effective way for me to reduce stress. However, the textbook has also introduced me to new techniques to helpmanage my stress, as well as ways to improve techniques I already use. One of these new techniques is eating healthy. Prior to reading the text, I never considered that my eating habits would affect my stress levels. However, after reading through the text, I can definitely see how my eating habits and stress levels affect each other. After evaluating my eating habits, I noticed that I do not eat healthy when I am stressed. When I become stressed or have an important event coming up, such having a test or a paper due, I tend to skip meals like breakfast and lunch, and instead eat smaller snacks of foods such as candy
  • 9. The Pros And Cons Of Quarterbacks There have always been stiff arguments between sports team devotees as to who s quarterback really brings the goods to the table. The argument for who truly clenches the crown of being named the GOAT, or great of all time, is surely not one to be taken lightly by any means whatsoever. After all, this is the title any quarterback in history has ever labored their entire life for just the chance to claim. While Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, and Joe Montana are all pretty high on the totem pole, a totem pole that stands colossal and robust, only one Quarterback can truly be named the GOAT. The only Quarterback who truly possesses the firepower to claim this title is none other than the most prominent; Tom Brady. Now for one to sit upon such a high
  • 10. A Brief Note On The And Social Science Introduction Ethnographies are very important to social science. They help to dive into different groups and culture s day to day lives and learn and understand the way these groups and cultures live on a micro level. This helps those that are interested to better understand the reasons behind why these groups are the way they are and do the things they do. Ethnographies may take many different forms and take form on many different topics. These topics can range anywhere from sororities or fraternities to certain religions or cultures to cults or gangs and to many others. The type of ethnography that will be discussed is one on gangs. Risk factors can be life events, living conditions, peer groups, or even the neighborhood a child grows up in. For example, a child that grows up in a house that is located in a rundown neighborhood. He has no father figure and a mother that is never around. All of his friends have either joined a gang and become a member or hang around gang members. This child would be the most susceptible to end up joining a gang. As I mentioned earlier, this gang involvement leads to delinquency, violence, and/or victimization. Delinquency Delinquency is simply criminal behavior, whether it is shoplifting, doing drugs, fighting, or vandalizing property, delinquency is the act of committing minor crimes. This delinquent behavior is mainly committed by the younger population. All youths can be a delinquent, but that doesn t necessarily mean that they are in a gang. Gang membership is a major gateway for delinquent behavior. Dr. Jody Miller says that studies show that young gang members are responsible for a substantially large proportion of delinquent acts (Jody Miller, 2001). She uses the data from the Rochester Youth Development study, Thornberry and Burch report to back this up. This study shows that youth gang members, boys and girls, accounted for 86 percent of all serious
  • 11. The History Of Nurse Anesthesia The history of nurse anesthesia cannot be accurately studied without a thorough analysis of the pioneer and transformational leader, Alice Magaw. Charles Mayo called her the Mother of Anesthesia for many good reasons (CRNA Profiles, n.d.). It is worthy of the student anesthetist s time to study the life, education, employment, leadership, publications, and legacy of Alice Magaw. Alice Magaw s Biographical Information In 1860, Alice Magaw was born in Ohio (Nelson Wilstead, 2009). For the majority of Magaw s childhood, she lived in Michigan with her brothers and sisters (Nelson Wilstead, 2009). Magaw s father was in the grocery business and one of his sons followed in his footsteps in this way (Thatcher, 1953). Magaw was 22 years old when the family moved to Rochester, Minnesota (Nelson Wilstead, 2009). The move was their last together before some of Magaw s siblings began leaving home and Magaw s mother died (Nelson Wilstead, 2009). CEE 262: Structures the Urban Environment Sol Taubin (staubin@princeton.edu) Crossing the Bosphorus: An Analysis of Eurasia s First Contemporary Intercontinental Bridge I. Introduction Given a global context of cities historically and very purposefully being situated along natural bodies of water to take advantage of vast natural resources, it is no wonder that urban development, industrialization, and localized population rise have increasingly implied the development of public works in these metropolises. Among these works, infrastructures designed to facilitate transportation across, rather than along, bodies of water such as rivers, straits, streams, etc., have proved paramount for urban and economic growth and well being, allowing an ever growing workforce to easily move both in and across cities core and peripheries. The Lottery By Shirley Jackson Analysis In The Lottery, Shirley Jackson tells the story of a fictional village with a population of about three hundred citizens in America, in which a mysterious event known as the lottery takes place once a year. Jackson tells the story from a third person objective point of view, meaning the narrator tells the story without knowing or commenting on the inner thought of the characters, which makes the ending so shocking. The lotteryas a whole is inhumane and cruel, but the people of the village followed the ritual without question, not seeming to realize or care about the cruelty of the system. This issue has also been preempted by corporate stress management, health promotion, or employee assistance programs, which explain stress as a purely personal reaction, and often treat the symptoms, not the causes, of job stress. The occupational stress field also has been plagued by a variety of definitions and difficulties in measurement of stress.(Buunk,De Jong,Y Bemas De wolff,1998) In addition, changes in job designor work organization are often inherently more systems challenging and require more radical restructuring of workplaces than reducing levels of exposure to toxic substances or... One in particular that I find compelling, is the creation of the Women Airforce Service Pilots better known as WASPs, during World War II. I find it interesting because prior to this time and after this period, woman had a very limited social status. But for a brief time in the 1940s, women achieved not only job equality but went above and beyond what society expected in many areas. The experiences Cochran and the Wasps fought for made it possible for me to follow my destiny. To have such motivation and endurance to excel in something you believe in, is so powerful and can really change the outcome for not just one but

However, when they deviated from the religious code they were threatened with banishment from the community and often experienced public shaming. Also the Puritans, whom had come to the colonies seeking religious freedom for themselves, cultivated a society that was intolerant of the practice of religious freedom for others. The Puritaninfluence enabled conformist tendencies based around a religious moral code which did not tolerate for deviation of Puritan beliefs that ultimately sacrificed individualism. The banishment of Anne Hutchinson and Roger Williams, due to beliefs that differed from the Puritan s, exemplified the intolerance of individualism as accounted for in The Journal of John Winthrop. Roger Williams had been condemned (Winthrop 106) by the most judicious ministers (106) who ordered that Williams should be convented at the next court to be censured (106). Ordering Williams to be censured demonstrated the Puritan leaders demand of conformity, as the leaders censured him for his presumption that did not follow their anti individualistic views. In fact, Williams had drawn above 20 persons to his opinion, (Winthrop 107) conveying others had similar opinions, that allowed for

The USPS handbook states that the organization processes and delivers more than 167 billion pieces of mail, letters, cards, ads, bills payments, and packages every year (Sales and Associate Handbook 1 1). • 20. Heredity and Hormones Effect on Behavior Essay Human behavior has been a mystery to scientists and psychologists for years. What causes humans to act the way they do? Is it learned by experience, or inherited from prior generations? The human brain is a complex machine driven by numerous intangibles that influence our thinking process directly and indirectly. The endocrine system in the human body stores a chemical known as hormones. Hormones are released by endocrine glands into the bloodstream and travel throughout the body carrying messages. A hormonal impulse is similar to a nerve impulse only much slower. The messages carried by the hormones trigger different behaviors. Hormones can affect behavior in many ways such as: Mental activity or tiredness, boredom or excitement, sexual ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both glands produce two distinct hormones, but produce differing amounts of each hormone. Masculine hormones such as androgens and testosterone are predominately produced by male testes. These hormones at high levels can be related to aggressive behavior regardless of sex, but high levels are most commonly found in males. High levels of feminine hormones or estrogen, most commonly found in females, have recently been linked to aggressive behavior as well. While high levels of estrogen in females and high levels of testosterone in males have been linked to aggressive behavior, normal levels of these hormones have been known to cause aggression as well. Although these hormones have been related to human behavior, scientists have concluded that these hormones alone do not dictate behavior (Morris Maisto, 2005). Adrenal glands, located near the kidneys, secrete several hormones that are activated by the nervous system. These hormones dictate the body s reaction to stressful situations. Each person secretes a different amount of hormones, therefore affecting behavior in stressful situations differently (Morris Maisto, 2005). Behavior is party affected by human hormones present in the body built from genetic traits inherited from the individual s parents. The genetic makeup of an individual combined with a certain environment, can affect behavior. Geneticsis the science of analyzing traits inherited through generations. These traits are determined by genes that

Lithium is used because it is the lightest metal with the highest electrochemical potential. Inside these batteries are a positive electrode called the cathode, an anodeor the negative electrode and lithium ions. Theses lithium ions move from the negative electrode to the positive when it s being used and vice versa when it s being charged. For the electrodes not to be combined, there is a separator in between the negative and positive electrodes. Another type of battery is a alkaline batteries, which is made out zinc and manganese dioxide. Alkaline batteries works like other batteries. There is a negative electrode, zinc powder, a positive electrode, manganese dioxide, an electrolyte, potassium hydroxide, a separator, and a brass pin. Once the electrolytes are added, a chemical reaction happens when the manganese dioxide oxidizes and allows the zinc and manganese dioxide to combine to form electricity in the battery. Zinc carbon batteries is another type of battery that is made of carbon and zinc. This battery works when the carbon rod, cathode, in the center collects electrons from the anode, shell of the battery that consists of zinc chloride, part of the battery, which creates a circuit. An electrolyte paste made from ammonium chloride surrounds a piece a paper that keeps the electrons moving and causes the battery to produce

The Population Of Japan And Japan This graph illustrates that the population of Japan has aged at a rate that is not what is generally seen, even in other countries which have large numbers of the population approaching retirement age. It is marked by two age group crests ; the first of which can be seen between the ages of 60 to 69, and the second crest can be seen peaking between ages 40 to 44. The Statistics Bureau of Japan estimates that the population of people over the age of 65 comprises 25.8 per cent of the total population of the country currently, and as the second age crest reaches retirement age in the next 20 years, the ratio of people over 65 will reach a new high. This will not only be the result of this second crest being larger in scale relative to younger generations, but also because life expectancy in Japan is currently at 85 (The World Bank Group) and projected to rise to 87 in the next decade, meaning that these crests will need to be supported by the working population simultaneously. This aging generation is not inherently negative for the economy, of course. The other aspects of Japanese demographic indicators are what makes this aging alarming and pose a serious danger to the future of the Japanese economy. While not the focus of this paper, it is worth discussing the population growth of Japan. While the near future will undoubtedly face a greater burden as the first age bracket reaches retirement age, the worst hardship will arise in 20 years. The horizon of 20 years is

To really gauge a person s intelligence, it would be necessary to put them through a rigorous set of real life trials and document their performance. The standardized IQ tests of today are test only a limited quality of a person s character that can hardly be referred to as intelligence. Standardized test also have no way to compensate for cultural differences. Different cultures have different methods of solving problems, and speediness is not always the best way to tackle a problem. Therefore the time limitations on standardized test are a major drawback. The reasons that IQ tests fail at their task can be separated into two main groups. The first grouping is where the tests assume too much. In this paper, the importantance of comparing short term memory to long term memory will be analyzed. Throughout life we have millions of memories, but the different steps of short and long term memory help us filter those memories (Mohs, 2007). As our brain sorts through the memories to preserve, it begins the process of filtering them from short to long term. Short term memory is held for short periods of time before being discarded or moved to long term memory. Short term memory is also referred to as working memory. When additional information is added to the basic thought or short term memory it is then transferred into long term memory. Long term memory is the final step in retaining information for longer periods of time (Rahtus, 2010). Short term memory is gathered and used for brief amounts of time. As a result, it will decline rapidly from our brain within a few moments. Items can be retained in short term memory when strategies such as rehearsal are implemented (Ruthus, 2010). Daily routines including: school, work and, play involve short term memory. Southtree states, that people have an average of 70,000 thoughts during our wake and sleep cycles (Macco s, 2017). Our brain immediately begins to filter these thoughts to forget or to use in short term. As Riley initially began looking at her room, she started to place her furniture in the space

Humans naturally want to be accepted by each other, but this results in individuals not being their true selves but becoming a fake persona. This has not only occurred in society today, but it is also demonstrated in Blood Wedding, where one s image, is not their true self. In Blood Wedding by Federico Garcia Lorca, archetypes, foils, and figurative language are used, to convey how society s standards alter one s perspective and falsifies one s appearance. In Blood Wedding, archetypes are used to exemplify the societal standards and roles that individuals filled living in the time period. For example, the mother of the Bridegroom question him about his bride asking, Three years. Didn t she used to have somebody else at that time? (Garcia Lorca 1.1.4). To counteract this, differences must be welcomed and viewed as beneficial to the

On the surface, the movie challenges the dominance of technology in our culture and predicts an apocalyptic result from the use of artificial intelligence. Yet, behind the human struggle for survival is a mythical backdrop upon which are backlit some of C.G. Jungs basic ideas regarding the human psyche. These Jungian ideas include the ego Self relationship and how it relates to the persona, the shadow, individuation, and the transcendent function. Early resistance of the ego characters occurs after Neo s initial recruitment by Morpheus group. Neo has a meeting with his manager after arriving late to work. It was even harder, as I was in the United States and had no one to support. Therefore, I planned to give up, leave a wonderful clinical opportunity, prepone my flight and go back! Which I did, except for going back! While riding in the subway for airport, I witnessed an incident of seizures in 7 to 8 years old boy, which refreshed my objectives. My path to medicine started as a result of suffering of one of my close friend, when there was no one there to understand reason of his silence. Nonetheless, topic of sexual harassment and victimization is a taboo in the underserved areas of developing countries. The only person who could understand his silence was the primary care physician, practicing in the neighborhood. That particular incident diverted my attention towards Medicine. Medicine in my life has never been for me medicine in my life is a commitment that I made to myself 21 years ago for alleviating the suffering of others thus anything that exclusively does not belong to, I cannot give up! However, I knew that being among those 20% of applicants who could not pass Step 2 CK on the first attempt has increased my journey of road to medicine. Yet, the Winston Churchill said success is not final, failure is not fatal; it is courage to continue that counts . Hence, that incident of subway took me to

Importance of Human Interaction in William Faulkner s A Rose for Emily Are human beings responsible for the well being of others that they come into contact with? William Faulkner s story A Rose for Emily considers the significance that human interaction has or does not have on people s lives. Faulkner creatively uses a shocking ending to cause readers to reevaluate their own interactions with others in their lives. Throughout the story, Faulkner uses characters that may relate to the readers more than they want to admit. The townspeople s curiosity is shown through their inquiries about the smell at Emily s house, the watching of the comings and goings of Tobe, who is Emily s Negro servant, and their observing the buggy rides that Emily is having with Homer. Despite the curiosity of the residents, not one of them reaches out a compassionate hand to Emily. While the townspeople choose to stay on the outer circle of human contact, Homer, on the other hand, pursues his curiosity and engages in a personal friendship with Emily. Faulkner tells the reader how Homer takes Emily for buggy rides and, according to the townspeople, has been seen going into Emily s house. Homer has really stirred up the gossips of the town as they discuss whether or not it is proper for Emily to so closely relate to a Northerner, who is considered below her social class. While Homer develops a relationship with Emily, he does not realize what emotional state Emily is in and does not offer the help this poor distraught lady so desperately needs. Homer, knowingly or not, misses an opportunity to change Emily s life forever. Faulkner may be suggesting that just being involved in someone s life casually falls short of how human beings should be involved in others lives. The second part of human nature that Faulkner explores is

Persuasive Essay On The Fifth Amendment As we sit and watch some of your favorite television shows, Blue Bloods, Criminal Minds, and The Blacklist, we can catch the prominent phrases, right to remain silent... and/or I plead the fifth in one or two scenes leading to interrogation. Although the television shows are fiction, the statements are factual and are part of the U.S. Constitution to protect a person against self incrimination. Self incrimination plays a vast part of the Bill of Right, specifically the Fifth Amendment. The Fifth Amendment has protected many Americans from punishment. Yet, this Amendment also has made it possible for guilty verdicts in criminal cases. This was possible with the historical adoption of the Fifth Amendment, the implementation of the five different clauses, and numerous criminal cases that established the strength of the Fifth Amendment. The philosophies behind the Fifth Amendment traced back to Magna Carta, 1215. The Magna Carta specified that No person shall ... be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law ... . Although England s King John did not agree to the term willingly, the Magna Carta was signed in hope to build a relationship between the King and the nobles and keep the peace. The Impacts Of Wind Energy MOHAMMED ALGHAMDI ENGLISH CAMP 1 (Final draft) 11/20/2017 Wind energy Wind energy is the application of air flow by use of wind turbines up to the mechanically powered generators to produce electric power. The wind energy is used as fuels of burnt fossils because its clean, plenty, it s distributed widely, renewable, it doesn t consume water and doesn t produce greenhouse gases (Wolff Meyer, 2016). The effects of wind energy to the environment are less problematic as compared to the power sources that are non renewable. Wind farms u are usually comprised of many wind turbines that are individually connected to the electric energy transmission networks. Wind is known to be the cheapest electric energy source compared to other sources like coal the gas plants. The offshore wind is usually stronger and stronger than inland. The offshore farms also have less of an illustration effect but the maintenance and construction costs are regarded to be great (Association, 2015). Smaller onshore farms of wind can feed some power to the grid and give electric energy to the remote off grid areas. Wind energy provides a changeable power that is very reliable from one year to another but that with important difference over scales of a shorter time. It s used in combination with additional sources of electric energy to provide a consistent supply. While the amount of wind energy in each, region increases, it necessitates the upgrading of the grid

In fact, according to historian Manuel Aguilar Morenao, some courts didn t even have rings. Another important rule was that the ball was never allowed to touch the ground. Players couldn t hold or even touch the ball with their hands only the elbows, knees, hips and head were used. As you may imagine, this made for a very fast paced game, and the players had to constantly throw themselves against the surface of the court to keep the ball from landing. The players were skillful, and the ball could stay in the air for an hour or more (Cottrill). Because it was so hard to get the ball through the hoops, there were other objects as well. Comparing Livy And Aeneas And The Ancient World There are really only two ways that history can withstand the test of time; that is for stories to be passed down to each generation by speech, or for those stories to be written so they can be cemented in history for eternity. Much to all of what is known about Rome and the ancient world has been traveled down by great works of art and literature. More importantly, the feelings towards each one of these cultures is essentially a direct product of what is read. This only stresses the importance of Livy and Aeneas literary works about the pre history of Rome. Both Livy and Aeneas constructed masterworks of literature that would be read by man for over two millennia. What these two authors composed would shape and construct what it truly meant to be Roman, not only to those living during the era, but to those living in the far future as well. The straight facts about past kings by Livy, and the telling tale of an epic hero named Aeneas by Virgil both portrayed the importance of pietas and military fortitude. On the one hand, there is pietas; now seen as one of the highest virtues of ancient Romans, a value that signifies respect and duty to the gods, family, and country above thyself. While military fortitude, or the act of being courageous in spite of the pain or harm that may ensue, was another theme that Livy and Virgil both interacted with that would change how Romans are viewed forever. These two authors would come to write works of art that are in two completely

Dafny broke this experiment up into three distinct phases: 1985 1988 pre period , 1988 1997 treatment period , and 1997 2000 post period to show the relationship between price growth and rival co location. Dafny notes that previous observational studies on the impact of mergers have ignored selection problems and reported biased estimates. This sector is selected because, the assumption of co location being uncorrelated with factors related to price growth in the hospitals area would be violated if hospitals prior to 1988 moved to an area because they expected prices to increase during 1988 1996. Since the acute care hospital industry has not experience many entries since the Hospital Survey and Construction Act of 1946, and less than one percent of hospitals had rivals exit during the study period, the author concludes the assumption holds. The dataset is constructed using panel data and then separated into two samples: All Hospitals and Rival Sample. All Hospitals, is comprised of 4,487 hospitals with data for all independent variables, more than 100,000 residents in its counties or metropolitan area, are non federal, and present in the 1988 American Hospital Association Survey. Rival Sample, contains only non merging hospitals from the All Hospitals sample with two or more rivals within 7 miles during 1988. The reasoning behind two or more rivals is that if non merging hospital has less than two rivals then it cannot experience a rival merger. While the rationale for 7 miles is due to this small area when adjacent hospitals merge, it is reasonable to expect an effect on the prices of rivals. The Rival Sample is then broken down into two subdivisions: 118 hospitals with merging rivals (NMW) and 759 hospitals without merging rivals (NMWO). The need for the distinction between NMWs and NMWOs is because

Projecting from the chariot was a long pole angled upward and attached to a yoke , which was mounted on the horses backs. At first there were two horses pulling each chariot, it is believed later on the setup was changed to fit four horses. On the right side of the chariot, the driver s job was to control the horses and to get the warrior in the best position to make his attacks. His attacks could be made with a bow and arrow, spear, mace, sword or dagger, however the bow was normally a prime choice for the average warrior. A typical warrior riding into battle was in full armor and ready to defend his chariot at all costs. The use of chariots spread very quickly as their effectiveness was easily recognizable. The Shang of China adopted the concept of chariots and modified them to fit three men. These three men were made up of a driver, a warrior and his servant whose role was to replenish his arrows and have weapons ready for his use at all times.
