LoRa Again

On November 28, 2019, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People's
Republic of China issued Announcement No. 52 of 2019, announcing matters concerning the
further regulation of micropower short-range radio transmitting equipment.
The announcement specifies the frequency band, power consumption, bandwidth and other
indicators of China's micropower equipment, including "limited to networking applications in
small buildings such as buildings, residential quarters and villages, and single channel
transmission at any time", " The content of a single shot lasting no more than 1 second "was
interpreted by some as a restriction on LoRa technology, especially LoRaWAN networking
applications. We combed the information of all parties and found that this is not the case.
Anyone who has been following the LoRa industry chain for a long time should remember that
this document of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has publicly sought
opinions from the public twice in December 2017 and November 2018. In particular, the impact
was greater when first soliciting opinions. The content at that time was also considered to be
extremely detrimental to the development of the LoRa industry. After the efforts of the entire
LoRa industry, the final public version of this time has actually joined the LoRa enterprise.
Suggestions.
On April 2, 2019, the Radio Management Bureau hosted a small-scale seminar (with more than
20 companies participating), which specifically discussed the industry's opinions on the
processing of the information feedback after the second "draft for comments" at the end of last
year. At that time, I should accept the different opinions of the industry on some of the
requirements in the second "draft for comments", such as canceling the requirement of the
built-in antenna, changing a single job at any time into a single transmission, etc. LoRa); but did
not accept industry comments to modify the single launch time to no more than 1 second.
Judging from this final edition, it is consistent with the statement made by the Committee on
April 2nd, basically unchanged. So don't over-interpret this final version, it is expected. The
government is a reasonable standard after reasonable consideration of the demands of all parties.
It believes that it is guiding the orderly development of the industry and has not deliberately
targeted LoRa.

technologies can be implemented. There will be no worries about complying with the
development of regulations.
The development of the LoRa industry is gradually changing from outdoor to indoor
The regulations in this regulation more restrict the application scenarios of outdoor networking.
On the one hand, from a technical perspective, within the scope of the regulations, LoRa can still
be used in outdoor network deployment scenarios (such as meter reading, smoke detection,
etc.).
On the other hand, the application scenario of LoRa has begun to move from outdoor to indoor.
At the end of July this year, a company officially released a LoRa chip, which is a chip that
specifically supports indoor application scenarios. Compared with the current, In terms of small
wireless technologies such as Bluetooth and Zigbee, LoRa will have the advantages of more
security, more stability, and better coverage in indoor scenarios. In the future, we will also see
more LoRa indoor applications.
LoRa's market in China is not an operator's big network, but a local area network. Its promotion
in China has changed from the past LPWAN to LPLAN. LoRa is a private network and a private
network LAN network in China. The corresponding scenario of LoRa is WIFI, which we call long
WIFI. In the following IOTE event in July, companies such as Alibaba and Tencent followed
semtech's strategy and put forward a view from outdoor to indoor. Alibaba also proposed a LoRa
2.0 focus on indoor. Smart buildings, smart communities, and smart homes have become LoRa's
new directions.
In fact, LoRa has always been the application of LAN in China, but outside perception has been
still in the concept of LPWAN, which is a base station to build a large network.
The development of the Internet of Things requires a blossoming technology
The fragmentation phenomenon of the Internet of Things application scenario is very serious.
Everyone who is engaged in the Internet of Things industry deeply understands this. The highly
fragmented application scenario is doomed to the blooming Internet of Things technology. For
example, the cellular communication technology has a wide range of implementation.
Application deployment, reducing the difficulty and cost of network connectivity for application
enterprises, but it cannot solve the problems of private network deployment and poor signal
coverage in local areas.
For users, the solution that can bring cost performance is the most important. The positioning of
LoRa technology in China has always been a private network. This is a supplement to an
application scenario of cellular networks. After several years of development, LoRa technology It
has also formed a complete industry chain, including chip vendors such as Semtech, Ali,
equipment and solution providers such as ZTE Carat, Mens Technology, and Huilian Infinite, and
application deployment users such as Tencent, Ali, China Unicom, Gehua Cable, and State Grid.
Has formed an important force for the development of the domestic Internet of Things industry.
In fact, the new IoT connection technologies that have emerged in recent years are not only LoRa.
