The document outlines plans for a TV show adaptation of the Friday the 13th film series, focusing on the first film. The 1st season would follow Jason Voorhees as a child and his parents' struggles in protecting their deformed son from discrimination. It would show Jason's accidental drowning at Camp Crystal Lake and his mother's subsequent killing spree in revenge. The show would have horror, drama and thriller genres with a diverse cast. It aims to attract both teen and adult horror fans while addressing censorship challenges due to graphic content.
2. My Adaptation
I will be adapting the old Friday the 13th films into a TV show. I will mainly be
focusing on the first Friday the 13th film (1980) for the 1st season of my Friday
the 13th Adaptation (Camp Crystal Lake).
Reasons I am doing an adaptation for Friday the 13th is because Friday the
13th film series is among one of my favorite horror movie series and I feel like
if it was to be adapted into a show, it’d be very successful.
3. Genre and Narrative
Genre/Sub-Genre – Horror (Slasher), Drama, Thriller , Teen
Narrative – Within the 1st season on my Friday the 13th Adaptation, we will
follow the life of a young Jason Voorhees with his mother (Pamela Voorhees)
and his father (Jonathon Voorhees) before his inevitable ‘apparent’ death
(Beginning). In this Adaptation, we will see how a young Jason Voorhees lived
his life in a discriminative society and his parents struggle in sheltering their
deformed son from a cruel world. As Jason die, due to two female lifeguards
not watching over him as he drowns within the camp crystal lake (due to
them being out on a illicit rendezvous- Middle.) the once nice Pamela
Voorhees will then start her killing spree - while trying to get her husband to
join her in getting revenge - but her husband disagrees and leaves Pamela as
he doesn't want to be an accomplice in her acts (The End).
4. Constraints and Opportunities
Constraints – For constraints it’ll be particular things such as
Certification/Censorship etc. Due to my show having strong language and
having blood/gore. My show will be aired at a later time (evening) not
daytime – which may give me less viewers.
Opportunities – Due to my show having a diverse cast/characters in terms of
sexuality and ethnic. I will be able to bring in all sorts of viewers that have
different ethnic/sexualities, as they will feel comfortable watching my non-
discriminative show.
5. Target Audience
Primary Audience – My primary target audience will be aimed at horror lovers
(consisting of both male and females) aged 15-25. Reasons for this, is my
Friday the 13th TV show adaptation involves a lot of characters from different
genders, sexualities and ethnics. Mainly characters that are teenagers and
teenagers will love this show that showcases Teenage antics within this
modern day. People of this age group will be of a socio economic grouping of
E/D. These people are either in school or university and they may acquire
funds their parents that work a c1 or c2 job.
Secondary Audience – My secondary target audience will also be horror loves
(consisting of both male and females) but aged 35-45. Reasons for this, is
because they may be watching my show due to them growing up watching
the old Friday the 13th films/relating to older characters such as Pamela and
Jonathan Voorhees that are in their 30s. Moreover, these sort of people socio
economic group will be c1/c2 as they work skilled manual jobs.
6. Cinematic Ideas
What makes my show different is it’s use of Diversity of the characters. My
show compares similarly to shows like Degrassi that depict characters from
different ethnics and also characters that have different sexualities.
7. Storyboards
This storyboard sequence depicts the birth of Jason Voorhees within the hospital. This
sequence is important, as Jason Voorhees Birth is the beginning of a soon to be soulless
murderer...
