SCENE...
2. FILM SYNOPSIS
When ‘Scream’ meets ‘The Inbetweeners series’, a killer
is on the loose in a British school set to the present day
but nobody knows who it could be. Things/items are
portrayed to the audience to identify who the killer but it is
in the audience mind of who they think it could be. Being
a typical nerd (Will Mackenzie character inspired), staying
behind after school becomes a shock. Witnessing plenty
of brutal murders by his own teacher and not being
believed by his friends, the boy does his research to
discover who the next victim will be. Will the boy be
successful or will the devious monster claim him as her
prey. The film will mix comedy with brutal murders .
3. GENRE
The genre we have chosen for our film is a hybrid of
black comedy and horror. The reason we have chosen
to create a black comedy is the characters we have
decided (i.e. teenagers) events in the film are going to
be quite comic in contrast to the dark murders
happening around them. The Horror element we chose
because of the murders, blood and gore which will be
included in the film to label it as typical horror by using
iconography. The Key element that makes our film
different from other British horror movies is that even
though the mood and ambiance of the film is dark, a lot
of humour will be made. This will be shown through the
use of dialogue and social groups.
4. SIMILAR FILMS
Here are some examples of similar Black/Horror
comedies that our film may resemble and have inspired
us:
Scream Cherry Falls Hot Fuzz The Cable Guy
(Black Comedy) (Black Comedy) (Black comedy) (Black comedy)
5. TARGET AUDIENCE
The target audience for our film will be boys the age of 15-21, this is
because there will be a lot of violence in the film which in a way could
stereotype a boy as they are portrayed as more aggressive. Also
because of the humour in the film due to teenager events, some sort of
sexual nature could be shown due to the cliché technique of the virgin
surviving to be the final girl and the ‘well experienced dumb blonde’ being
brutally murdered. In a way this could include Laura Mulvey’s male gaze
which is another key technique to attract boys to the film. The film will be
suitable for any ethnicity as there will be no religious or cultural events.
The secondary audience for our film will be girls the same age (15-21)
this is because they will also be experiencing the same teenage events
which take place in the film but it also puts them in the perspective of the
film. They are also the secondary audience because girls which fit in the
stereotypical social group of a Emo/Goth/Indie will also be interested in
death and in some ways could be more interested in the film than boys as
they want to show how not all girls are weak, vulnerable and scared but
can be strong and fearless.
6. RELEASE DATE
The film will be released in the October half term. The film
will be released in a half term since this is when we feel
we will make the most income as school children will be of
school. This will hopefully help get the overall gross in the
opening weekend up and at a successful. Opening in this
time frame will also benefit our film because it will be
October it is Halloween and people will be looking for
things to do relating to this time of year. This will hopefully
get the greatest gross possible.
7. To create this film we will need a budget of
£8,000,000 which is similar to what the Hit black
comedy ‘Hot Fuzz’ had. The gross total that we will
get within the opening weekend will be £5,918,149
in the UK and $5,848,464 in the USA. This is again
very similar to ‘Hot Fuzz’. The overall gross for the
film in the USA will be $23,618,786 and in the UK it
will be £20,792,585.
