A Year In LA
2. Overview
The genre of our movie is Rom Com and the target audience is for teenage girls, we set the
age cap for the movie to 15+ so we can include more adult comedy scenes so the movie
applies to more teenagers. Also 16-24 year olds are the most frequent age bracket to visit the
cinema, so it is important our movie targets people of that age to increase it’s success.
Our movie is about 2 sets of best friends who all fall in love with each other, but 2 of the four
characters like each other but feel they cannot do anything about it, otherwise they may
upset their best friends.
The movie is set in Downtown LA.
The themes of the movie are teenage love and teenage crushes.
The message of the film is that opposites don’t always attract, and love isn’t always perfect.
The target audience would like to see our film as it is new and original, but also explores
themes that interest teenage girls.
3. Storyline
Two sets of best friends, Mason and Eugene both work as models, and
Bethany and Charlie work as accountants.
One day they all go to a bar, Eugene tries to be cool, by leaning against the
bar, but falls through it (Only fools and horses) causing the girls to laugh and
go over to them. They get talking and Charlie likes Mason, and Eugene likes
Bethany. Bethany likes Mason, and Mason likes Bethany. But they both don’t
do anything about it because of their best mates. Go out on a group date so
they can all talk, Eugene gets nervous and acts funny. They go on a date to a
concert. Nice song in the background. Charlie and Eugene go off, get to
know each other and fall in love. This means Mason and Bethany can be
together. The end.

5. Audiences and access
Our target audience is teenage girls. We think they will want to see this film,
because it involves iconic childhood actors, Zac and Vanessa, from High
School Musical.
We also believe they will want to watch it as it has 2 funny actors, Seth Rogan
and Rebel Wilson, who star in films; Pitch Perfect and Bad neighbours, which
many teens would have watched.
6. Characters
Zac - Mason Fergo, a good looking, intelligent (Countertype)
Seth - Eugene Smith, Fat, hairy, funny looking, dumb (Countertype)
Vanessa - Bethany Hampton, Pretty, dumb, shy, only in the job because of
Charlie.
Rebel – Charlie Watson, Fat, ugly, insecure, funny, intellegent
7. Opening scene
In the opening scene, (Music fades in) over shot over the L.A skyline. Eugene
and Mason on a shoot, in their boxers. Camera pans left, to see Bethany and
Charlie, sitting in their offices gossiping. Eugene falls over and ruins the movie
set, and Bethany and aim are messing around, Bethany tries to push Charlie’s
chair but she can’t because she’s too heavy.
They then both walk out of the building at the same time, Mason and Eugene
don’t realise they are still in their boxers because they ran away from the
broken set so they wouldn’t get in trouble. They all start talking in an awkward
scene, arrange to date, and when asked where they want to go Seth
awkwardly point out a bar (as seen in the picture below)
8. Setting
Set in L.A
Eugene and Mason’s photo shoot is set in a downtown studio, with an
expensive set, involving makeup and costume, directors, cameras etc.
Bethany and Charlie, in an office, above the shoot.

9. Enigma Codes
Who will get with who?
Why is Mason the smart one?
Why is Bethany the dumb one?
10. Marketing
We plan to advertise our movie on social media, as most teenage girls use
social media. We will also advertise it on posters in the cinema.
We also feel that advertising on Spotify and You-tube will be beneficial for our
movie, as many teenagers use these frequently, and that is where they are
most likely to hear about our movie.
11. Film Inspirations
We have many inspirations for our film, the main two being ‘Valentines Day’
and ‘What Happens in Vegas’
‘What Happens in Vegas’ inspired us to give our movie a surprising, unseen
twist making the opposite characters attract and then have that switch back
at the end of the movie.
‘Valentines Day’ inspired us as our characters are going on ‘first dates’ and
have youthful crushes, just like in ‘Valentines Day’
13. Genre Conventions
The genre convention of our movie is Romantic Comedy. Therefore there are
many funny scenes but also romantic scenes. The audio will be both diegetic
and non-diegetic. There will be romantic, slow paced music but also less
serious music, as it has an element of comedy.
