Acute Liver Failure Case Studies
Looking at Jonathon s labs, vital signs, and physical assessment, along with his recent admissions, I
would diagnose him with acetaminophen induced hepatotoxicity. Patients with acute liver failure can
present with symptoms such as fever, abdominal pain, fatigue, and anorexia (Lancaster, Hiatt,
Zarrinpar, 2015). Jonathon is presenting with fever and abdominal pain. His LFT indicate that acute
liver failure is present. At his previous visit, I prescribed him to take the maximum dose of
acetaminophen at 4g/day. Since Johnathon admits to taking several over the counter (OTC) brand
medications it is possible he took Tylenol, which is the brand name for acetaminophen, and not
realizing that he was overdosing. Acetaminophen can be found in many OTC medications. I would ask
Johnathon for a complete list of all the OTC medications he was taking, or for him to remember as
many as he could. His drinking is also a major concern. Large alcoholic beverage consumption in
combination with high doses of acetaminophen can greatly affect the liver. At this point I would be
extremely concerned for Jonathon s health. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The majority of acetaminophen, approximately 90%, will be metabolized by glucuronidation
(Lancaster et al., 2015). Approximately 10% will be metabolized by cytochrome p450 (Lancaster et
al., 2015). From there it will become the reactive metabolite N acetyl p benzo quinone imine (NAPQI)
(Lancaster et al., 2015). Under normal circumstances, glutathione (GSH) will convert NAPQI to a
nontoxic metabolite (Lancaster et al., 2015). In cases where GSH depletion is present due to
acetaminophen overdose, malnutrition, or alcoholism, NAPQI cannot be converted, leading to
increased NAPQI levels and subsequently liver damage (Lancaster et al.,

Dna Coding For Ampicillin Resistance And Green Fluorescent...
Abstract This experiment was performed to assess the efficacy of genetic transformations on bacteria
via plasmid DNA coding for ampicillin resistance and green fluorescent protein. Genetic
transformation was studied by taking transformed and untransformed Escherichia Coli (E. coli) and
placing them on various media to observe gene expression via growth and color under UV light. The
transformed E. coli were able to grow on ampicillin while the untransformed E. coli, which lacked the
plasmid genes for ampicillin resistance, only grew on nutrient broth. In the presence of arabinose, the
transformed E. coli glowed green. These results support the previous scientific understanding of
bacterial competency, vectors, and gene expression and support gene transformations as an effective
method to transfer the desirable DNA of one organism into another organism s DNA. These results
can be applied to real world issues such as medical treatments, food production, and environmental
conservation.
Introduction
Genetic engineering is used in health treatments, agricultural applications, and environmental
solutions. Genetic transformations incorporate foreign genetic material into the DNA of a different
organism via a vector, which carries the genetic material. Plasmid DNA is small, round, and
autonomous, due to its origin of replication. In biotechnology, plasmids carry beneficial genes, such as
antibiotic resistance, and also a reporter protein, in this case, Green Fluorescent Protein

The Origin Of Paul Ree By Nietzche
In the preface, Nietzsche explains that the conception of this book was born out of his reading of
friend Paul Ree s Origin of Moral feelings. A book with which Nietzsche found himself at odds with
the assertions of Ree. Nietzsche interpreted Ree s work as denying the universality in the principles of
right and wrong. Moreover, Nietzsche saw concurrence with Ree s assertions that different societies
moral valuations might be defined by that society s cultural needs and conditions. Nietzsche was also
interested in Ree s explanation of the origins of responsibility, morality, punishment, and remorse.
Against this understanding of Ree s work, Nietzsche penned three essays which make up the work
known as The Genealogy of Morals. These essays are considered some of the more clear and
comprehensive writings of Nietzsche. Their intent appears to be a continuation in the critique of
Christian morality first established in Beyond Good and Evil. The commonly read first essay sees
Nietzsche present an opposition between the master morality and that of the slave . By tracing the
etymological grounds of the German words schlect ( bad ), gut (good), and bose (evil), Nietzsche
forwards the proposition that a distinction between good and bad was born from ... Show more content

Of the three essays, this is probably the one most true to Nietzsche s style of presenting arguments in a
non conforming format. The important part for me of this essay is in Nietzsche s ability to see both
sides of the problem. While critiquing mainly the asceticism of religion, he also presents the opposite
extreme of the problems with science. While Nietzsche does not necessarily reject the ideals of
ascetics, he does highlight the thought that morality and culture are artifacts of mankind. Hence, even
the metaphysical conceptions of right, wrong, and soul are at their core human made conceptions that
must be questioned; not

Causes Of Homegrown Terrorism
Even though it is called homegrown terrorism, terrorism does not only start within a home. Although
there have been events that lead to roots of what might have caused the terrorism there is always
evidence that contradicts itself. Some of these roots are radicalization, religion, and multiculturalism.
Every one of these roots has caused terrorism throughout decades which not only has the United Sates
tried to stop, but which we have come to conclude that it is something that we cannot control which
makes us believe there are other sources and roots of domestic terrorism. Terrorism is not only on
certain days or years; terrorism is an everyday fear.
American Jihad is an American story about a citizen who belonged to Al Qaeda name Anwar Awlaki
who terrorized Boston and Florida. Born in New Mexico, he had a strong rapport with the American
Muslim youths at his mosque, thanks to a fluid use of the English language (not a given with Islamic
religious leaders, even in the U.S.) and his understanding of popular culture. (Lorraine, 2017) An
Article by Los Angeles Times identify religion, culture, and radical thoughts as key factors that
influence homegrown terrorism. The article describes him as acting like one of us but knew how to
manipulate the internet and social media, using it to disseminate his videotaped teachings to a wider
audience. Religion, culture, and radical thought not only were one of his influences on initiating the
attacks but another terrorist too. In an

Hate And Love, And American Values In America
America is a driven nation in which everyone has different motivators which produce varied results in
society and the lives of the Americans. Hate and love, as well as selfishness and selflessness are the
primary motivators of individuals as they cause the most amount of passion and debate. Morals will
impact these values and cause them to change to match the situation along with the feelings of the
individual. At times, these values may contradict each other, such as hate and love or selfishness
versus selflessness, yet these contradictions are necessary for its inverse to exist. Without hate, love
would not exist. Selfless actions could not be recognized if not for selfish actions. The effect morals
have on the individual would go unobserved if there was not a range of beliefs. Although its values
can contradict one another, American values are what drives America to the success that it praises
itself for.
Hate and love are seen as antonyms when in reality the two ideas come in a pair. In order to hate, one
must have known love before for as it is impossible to hate something without caring about it in some
form. It is very easy for love to develop into hate, and vice versa. Hate will lead to exclusion and bad
choices while love will unify and bind the nation together, making it stronger. Although an individual
s or a nation s goal may be for peace, the result can be hatred if proper steps laid out in Just War
Theory are not taken. Just War Theory acknowledges that there

Google Glass, A Wearable Computing Device
Abstract
This report aims to look at how Google Glass, a wearable computing device, contributes to social and
privacy ethical implications. Ethical issues recognised in devices can question the legal rights of a
product. However, a study shows that this device may have an opportunity to enhance the quality of
the surgical industry. If so, should this device still be used amidst the ethical issues?
1 Introduction
1.1 Wearable Technology
Wearable computing is a technology device that can be worn on the human body and often includes
devices that can collect information and may even have motion detectors. Wi Fi or Bluetooth tethering
is used to connect the device with an internet connection. Evolving examples of wearable technology
include smart watches, clothing and jewellery, sports watches, fitness trackers, head mounted displays
and devices that can be implanted in the body.
1.2 Augmented Reality
Augmented Reality (AR) is technology that allows virtual objects to be layered on to the actual
environment in real time. Together, this creates a space called mixed reality. The layers allow detailed
information about the world to be visually present whilst wearing the device. AR browsers can
enhance camera display with information that is relevant to the place you are at. If you point the
device to a building, it can display the details of the building on the building.
2 Defining Ethical Implications
Ethical implications are issues that arise within the invention

How Did The Transcontinental Railroad Affect The Economy
The transcontinental railroad was an 1,912 mile railway system that spanned from Sacramento,
California to Omaha, Nebraska. It was built to connect the Atlantic to the Pacific Coast and was
constructed between 1863 to 1869. It revolutionized the settlement and economy of the west. It helped
the United State s in more ways than just benefiting the west. The transcontinental railroad
transformed America by allowing faster transportation, faster settlement, and an increase in trade and
the economy.
Firstly, the transcontinental railroad helped our trade and economy. The western economy was largely
based on farming and mining which could have played a large factor in the American economy (Pohn

The construction of railroads fueled to a more efficient settlement west. Many of America s major
historical events such as the California Gold Rush, Homestead Act, and overall settlement west all had
something in common. They were aided by the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad. With the
west now being part of the United States economy, many people saw this as an opportunity to move
and make money. As a result, many relocated west looking for a new beginning or to strike rich and
towns and cities started sprouting along the railways (Transportation History 1800 1900). In 1848,
gold was discovered in California starting the California Gold Rush (Huntington). Thousands of
people across the entire world started traveling to California hoping to become wealthy. The problem
was, out of the thousands that went to California, many of them died along the journey. They needed a
fast and safe way to get there. After the completion of the Transcontinental Railway, traveling became
considerably quicker and safer. Another way these railways aided the westward expansion was
through the Homestead Act of 1862 (Huntington). The United State s Homestead Act offered a free
160 acre lots in the unsettled west. (Huntington). There were some requirements such as having to file
a claim, live on the land and also making upgrades to it whether it be by building or dwelling.
(Huntington). But, many settlers and merchants needed a faster, more cheap way to get there. In 1869,
the Transcontinental Railway was completed greatly assisted in America s westward

Archetypal Criticism of Blood Diamond
Through the movie Blood Diamond you can see many tragic events happening. There is loss for some
people and gain for others. The movie takes place during the time of the civil war in Sierra Leone in
1999 (Synopsis for Blood Diamond). The movie portrays the events that transpired between the
government soldiers and rebel forces. (Synopsis for Blood Diamond). As the Movie opens Solomon
Vandy is taken away from his family by RUF (the Revolutionary United Front). Among other
Solomon is set to work to find diamonds that will later be sold for a profit that Solomon does not get
to keep. Solomon hides the diamond inside the ground where Captain Poison sees him and demands
that Solomon hand it over. While this is transpiring, the group gets attacked and Captain Poison gets
sent to prison with Solomon before he can get his hands on the Diamond (Synopsis of Blood
Diamond). The next main character to be introduced is Danny Archer who is imprisoned for
smuggling diamonds into Liberia. Danny gets Solomon released from prison and the two make a deal
that Solomon will help Danny find the diamond on the condition that Solomon gets his family back.
The two set out on their journey and come across a journalist, Maddy Bowen who agrees to help
Solomon on his journey to find his family. During this time it becomes clear to Maddy that Danny is
only using Solomon to find the diamond and is planning to steal it and she decides to not help Danny

Hamstring Strain Essay
Hamstring strain injuries are one of the most common sport related injuries involving high speed,
kicking movements (Marc. A., et al 2004). Despite there being evidence that hamstring strains occur at
both stages of movements; the early stance phase where the muscle absorbs the most force as a result
of high ground reaction and the late swing phase, the hamstrings eccentrically contract to absorb the
kinetic energy and slow the lower limb putting the hamstrings under a large amount of stress (Schmitt.
B., et al 2012)
Heiderscheit et al (2010) States that hamstring strains in high speed running, generally occur in the
late swing phase of the gait cycle, during the second half of the swing, the hamstrings are active,
lengthening and absorbing energy from the decelerating limb in preparation for ground reaction, and
the bicep femoris is stretched. Furthermore this confirmed by an earlier study, Koulouris and Connell

Red Ribbon Week Summary
Red Ribbon Week began after the kidnapping, torture, and murder of DEA agent Camarena in 1985.
Camarena had been working undercover for Guadalajara, Mexico for over four years. His efforts led
to a tip that resulted in the discovery of a multimillion dollar narcotics manufacturing operation in
Chihuahua, Mexico. They kidnapped Camarena and his pilot, Captain Alfredo Zavala Avelar taken
separately on the same day.Soon, representatives of the Mexican Federal Judicial Police (MFJP)
presented a tip to DEA agents claiming that Camarena had been mistakenly kidnapped by a man and
his three sons.
The MFJP informed the agents that a raid of the man s ranch in Angostura would take place the
following morning and invited them to come. However, the MFJP

Review Of Andy Weir s The Martian
Upon its announcement we all thought this was a prequel to Interstellar , if you ve seen that film you
understand why, but it seems that after the joke cleared it s The Martian who s going to ultimately
have the last laugh. This film is tracking amazingly well, opening to resoundingly positive reviews
everywhere it goes. Nevertheless, hype is a cruel mistress, one moment everyone loves your film and
in the next it s impossible not to be disappointed by the final product. Which is why I was excited but
hesitant going in, and I didn t necessarily need to be because this is an all around crowd pleaser.

I went into this expecting a soft humored drama, but this is through and through a very funny film
without ever posing a threat to that dramatic tone. The comedy here serves the story, for the most part
it s all reactionary and situational humor, which is my favorite brand of comedy because it s the most
authentic.
The intertwining comedy and dramatic moments seamlessly adapted for the screen by Drew Goddard
would be nowhere without the greatness that is this diverse, versatile and overall expansive cast. Matt
Damon is put in an odd position here as an actor. He s not given much to react to, he s all alone for the
vast majority of the film so that rules out any sort of human contact, he s also not actually on Mars
which rules out the planetary contact, he s really only got food and practical effects to bounce his
reactions off of. It can t have been easy to tackle this role without much to respond to aside from
direction and inanimate objects, but he manages to be remarkably charismatic and fun to watch in
spite of the lack of a companion. In fact, Damon is so good that it s disappointing when you don t get
as much of him in the final act as you did in the first two. Those first couple of acts are so entertaining
and enjoyable that it s almost jarring when the film kicks into the finale. The climax of this film puts a
great deal of emphasis on you caring about the space crew, something you ve not yet been given any

Central Limit Theorem Essay
The Central Limit Theorem is a statistical theory which states that the shape of a sampling distribution
is approximately normal no matter the shape of the population when graphed. This theory works as
long as the sample size is larger than 30. To go more into depth to explain this theorem, we could take

Let s say if I were to keep track of how long I walk my dog if I always take a longer path when I walk
the dog during the morning compared to the late afternoon. Putting this data on a graph, it would look
binomial like the graph I provided below. Yet just like the Grey s Anatomy example, if we take the
means of multiple random samples from the data and plot it on a graph, it would become normal.
Another example where the Central Limit Theorem takes place is if I were to record the pitches that
my two dogs bark at. My first dog, Oreo, has a deep, hearty bark where as my second dog, Mya, has a
high pitched bark. Considering this, if we graphed their barks, there would be a dip in between which
would look similar to the graph right above this paragraph. Yet just like the others, if I was to take
multiple random samples from the data and figured out the means of each, it would look much more
normal and the dip would be gone. Whether it be using Grey s Anatomy watching habits, dog walking
habits, or the pitch of a dog bark, the Central Limit Theorem can turn a binomial graph into a normal
graph. This can be easily done by taking a random sample of over 30 from the data given, taking the
means from each sample, and then plotting them on a graph will give us an approximately normal

The evolution of technology has made a radical change in our society today. It has taken a toll in the
way operations systems work in many corporations and health industries. Many corporations invest

Antegren: A Beacon of Hope
As Jim Mullen, CEO of Biogen Idec, drove into work on February 19, 2004, he considered both the
tremendous hope and stiff challenge generated by the company the previous day. The company had
announced its intention to submit an application to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)
seeking approval for Antegren, a drug that Biogen Idec was developing in partnership with Elan to
treat multiple sclerosis (MS).
While the patient community and investors greeted the news with excitement, Mullen knew that to

This process could take months and typically required extensive lead time to schedule meetings and
review data with insurers data that had to be convincing. Early FDA approval would mean short
circuiting that whole methodical process, and it was unclear if this could be finalized before the drug
was approved.
Although all the signals from the FDA were positive, there was also the risk that the FDA, which itself
had been going through a period of upheaval, would not approve Antegren. If this happened, the
reputation risk to Antegren could be irreversible, even if it was approved at a later date after further
trials.
Mullen knew his responsibility was nothing short of transforming the promise of Antegren into reality.
He had to determine how to get the drug made and accessible to patients, and he had to lead the
company to execute in record time on those plans. Mullen knew Biogen Idec could fulfill the high
hopes of patients and investors, and now his task was to lead the company to do so.

Corruption In The Catholic Church
During the time of corruption in the Catholic Church, Protestantism was growing because of the
influences of politics, corruption within the Catholic Church, and Renaissance ideas. Many Catholics
were unhappy with the Catholic Church because of all the corruption in the church, and they wanted
reformation. The Catholic Church wouldn t be able to stop the growth of Protestantism. One of the
reasons Protestantism spread was because of the influence of politics, such as support from princes
and the Treaty of Augsburg. When Luther began to break from the Catholic Church, He called upon
the German princes to overthrow the papacy in Germany and establish a reformed German church.
(438) This is the reason the German princes started to support the spread of Protestantism. The rulers
of Germany were motivated by any religious feeling which made them take control of the churches in
their territory. This made the princes/rulers have the last say in any decisions not the Pope. Religious
warfare in Germany ended with the Treaty of Augsburg. The Treaty of Augsburg in 1555 brought

Martin Luther made these problems obvious when he nailed his 95 theses to the church doors. In

Protestantism. The Protestant teaching was justification by faith alone, salvation comes only through
faith in Christ not good works. Buying a slip of paper is not the way to get into Heaven. There was
corruption with the Popes in the 1520 s. The Popes were spending too much money on Renaissance

Zoo s Efforts to Help Conservation Essay
Since approximately 1250 B.C., ancient Egyptians had created and practiced the capture and display
of animals in what are now known as zoos (Fravel). Records describe such exotic animals as birds,
lions, giraffes, and tigers in captivity (Fravel). Since then, zoos have continued to entertain millions
with the exciting chance to view exotic animals up close and personal. Even in ancient Greece, exotic
animals were on display in fighting arenas, and in enclosed viewing areas. Originally in America, zoos

Examples of zoos that are well known for such programs include Animal Kingdom in Orlando, the
Oakland Zoo, and the San Diego Zoo. These three have won multiple awards and achievements for
breeding, conservation, and reintroduction of endangered species to their natural habitats. Many zoos
across North America participate in such programs like the Species Survival Plan Program (SSP),
which strives to increase the numbers of endangered species in zoos while ensuring healthy and self
sustaining populations (Traw). According to the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), programs
like SSP have succeeded in increasing endangered species populations of many animals, like red
wolves, snow leopards, and giant pandas within the last three decades (Traw). It has been estimated
that the AZA has established around 113 SSP s spanning over 181 endangered species within a variety
of zoos worldwide (Traw). Breeding programs are extremely vital to conservation efforts in zoos;
without them, endangered species would be in serious threat of extinction in their natural habitat.
However, these breeding efforts also have important standards. They make sure to breed the animals
responsibly, healthily, and genetically safe. In some cases, the goal and outcome of breeding programs
is the reintroduction of the animals to their natural habitat, which has a large impact on the
recuperation of that animal s population.Reintroduction is the goal andfinal product of breeding
programs.

Essay on Operation Overlord
Operation Overlord The Allied position in early 1942 seemed unpromising. Hitler still had all the
ground he had obtained in his blitzkrieg campaign of the previous five years and was gaining ground
in Russia. The Nazis now also had a large foothold in North Africa and were ready to seize the oil
fields of Arabia. Without large scale successful intervention by the Western Allies (Great Britain,
America and Canada) it looked very likely that Nazi Germany would win the war.

Allies would have thought that beating the Germans in France would have been an essential victory
over the Germans but also an excellent position from which to mount an attack on Germany and

An invasion of France would also significantly reduce the threat from U Boats, the submarines that
patrolled the Atlantic in so called wolf packs destroying Allied shipping. Although technological and
engineering advances meant that craft in the Atlantic Ocean could be kept safe from U Boats the threat
still existed. Many U Boat pens were along the French Atlantic coast and were used as docks for the
Nazi submarines. The invasion of mainland Europe and the liberation of France would mean that these
docking places would be taken out of Nazi use and the Atlantic would be safer for international
merchant shipping. Safer seas may have worked to relieve the supply stresses exerted on Great Britain
by the U Boat wolf packs of the Kriegsmarine, the navy of Nazi Germany. Despite all the obvious
benefits of invading Europe Great Britain could not afford to take part in such a risk filled wartime
venture if conditions were not conducive for a large scale assault on Hitler s Fortress Europe . The

experienced freedom and even though it was a harder life he still never went back even though he
could. The animal never returning shows the reader the animal s perspective and feelings about
freedom. The animal has no perspective of freedom because the animal has lived in a cage all its life
having someone take care of him and bringing him food. The animal is fearful of leaving his world.
The boy s perspective comes from experiencing freedom. He knows from the past because he has
always counted the last day of school as the first day of summer. In fact he is waiting for his the
adventures with his friends to begin. Finally, he escaped the trap of summer school by barely passing
his math test with a C . Having to stay in school behind metal rimmed windows not being free is like
being confined in a cage. Even though both stories use suspense to develop the theme of freedom, it is
the perspective of the main character that demonstrates how different freedom can be

Optimism In Voltaire s Candide By Ervin Beck
The article Voltaire s Candide by Ervin Beck discusses many aspects of the novella. Beck describes
how Voltaire divided the novella into three distinct sections, all of which are about the same in length,
that are separated based on where the events are taking place. The first ten chapters describe the
journey of Candide and his friends through Europe. Chapter ten depicts his journey at sea from Europe
to the Americas. The following ten chapters depict Candide in America where he reaches the
seemingly perfect country El Dorado. Beck notes El Dorado, as the unattainable goal, is
geographically most elevated point in Candide s travels. It appears almost midway and is even more
exactly centered in terms of page numbers. It is noteworthy that ... Show more content on

Wood remarks that even though it appears there are so many freakish disasters in the novella and
Candide suffers many horrible events throughout the novel Candide is usually optimistic. There is one
important point in the story where the reader gets a sense that candied has lost his optimism, and it is
the only point where the word optimism is used in the novella. It occurs when Cacambo asks What is
optimism? to which Candide replies it is the mania for insisting that all is well when all is by no
means well. Wood also converses that while Pangloss is considered a philosopher, Candide is one as
well. He sees Candide as a philosopher because he loves to talk about philosophical ideas, but above
all he is young, and his youth permits him attitudes which are not all that far removed from the initial
provincialism of his native Westphalia. And that Candide does find it hard to believe the world is a
bad place if his own affairs are going well. There are many examples throughout the story of Candide
being optimistic especially in the beginning at Thunder Ten Tronckh. He truly believes that he is in the
best place in the world and that his life is so great and the world is a perfect place, when in reality he
only believes this because he has never left to experience the real world. Once he is forced to see that
the world is actually not perfect he begins to realize that there are actually horrible things in the world
even if Pangloss can come up with an explanation for why the negative things keep

Feeling Alone And Distracted In The Raven By Edgar Allan Poe
Feeling alone and distracted
The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe seems to be sad but relatable poem. The narrator is grieving over
someone named Lenore but then gets distracted by a raven just as he was going to sleep. I lost a friend
at age nine and was by far the hardest thing I have been through. She was my best friend we shared a
lot of activities and her favorite was cheerleading. After she died I really did not want to cheer
anymore but I continue to in her honor. Although she was still on mind just like I am sure Lenore was
on the narrator s, I would get distracted from thinking about her while I cheering because I knew she
was looking over me. I feel that by the raven saying nevermore, he was telling the narrator that it will
be okay. That

The Greek And Roman Civilizations
.
The Greek and Roman Civilizations were quite similar in their Art, their Women s Rights, and
their Geographic location. The Greek believed their painted, sculpted and carved depictions of
the people should be absolutely perfect. Especially the men. They found that the physical form
was most pleasing to the eye and wanted to accentuate that beauty and deliver it through art.
They sought out to present infinite elegance. Flawless statues and paintings showed men and
women in their most beautiful state. If their sitter ( the model for the painting, sculpture or
carving/shaving ) had physical flaws the artist would reshape the figure in the clay or on canvas.
The Romans wanted their depictions of people to be raw, and flawed, and although possibly
unflattering, very true to form. Both civilizations appreciated depicting people in their art but
they way they went about creating and presenting it was distinct to their personal perspective. In
ancient Greece, women had positively no rights. The women of ancient Greece were seen the
same way one would viewtheir livestock or homestead. They were considered personal property
and had no rights. Women couldn t inherit property. Women didn t appear in court as jurors or as
litigants (i.e. party to a lawsuit). The social ideal was that a woman did not keep a shop or do
market business. Ideally women were absent from the agora the central public space and core

Kit Fox Research Paper
Kit foxes, also called Vulpes Macrotis are among the smallest foxes in America. The kit fox is very
easily mistaken for a dog however when you look at their appearance you realize that proportions are
not that of a dog s. Many people often confuse the kit fox with its larger cousin, the grey desert fox.
Kit foxes have exceptionally large and closely set ears. Their ears help spread the body heat in the
desert like environments. Kit foxes typically have a slender and small body with long legs and a very
puffy tail. Their tails stick straight out behind them, and it tipped in black. Kit foxes coats change with
the seasons going from a rusty tan to grey in the summer, to a silvery grey color with a white belly in
the winter. The kit fox s

Meet The Robins Comparison
A comparison of the Novel, Tomorrowland and the Film, Meet the Robinsons
Although a film and a novel are completely different works of entertainment they can also be very
similar in a variety of ways. They may share the same theme, use of imagery, characters, objective, or
even emotions. The novel Tomorrowland and the film Meet the Robinsons clearly show some
similarities. Tomorrowland and Meet the Robinsons share a type of narrative hero, one who takes on a
personal mission that results in a complete renewal of society, proving the value of a single life to the
greater whole.
Both of the heroes have goals to accomplish, yet face personal struggles. In Tomorrowland, Casey

Unfortunately, Casey could never physically be there. It was only a realistic image in her head, and so
she thought! She tried to figure out why this would happen and was curious about where the pin had
come from. Casey searched for information on the web and after searching, she discovered that a

forced her to stay then attempted to kill her when suddenly a young girl named Athena saves Casey.
Athena tells her that Tomorrowland is real and promises to take her there and also tells her that the
future lies in her hands. In Meet the Robinsons, Lewis gets the idea that if his mother did not want him

The Centrality Of Play For A Child s Social Development
The centrality of Play for a child s social development Play is so important in a child s development
that the United Nations High Commission for Human Rights has recognized it as a right of every child
(Parents Magazine, 2015). Play is also important in social development as highlighted in my poster for
parents, this rationale of my poster will discuss the key theories, processes and messages that are
presented when looking at how play affects social development. Many theorists including Vygotsky,
Piaget and Bandura have conducted studies on play and the social development of a child. As Piaget
stated play performs a major role in children s expanding mental abilities (Piaget, 1962) this was
supported in studies conducted by both Bandura and Vygotsky. Vygotsky s Zone of Proximal
Development (ZPD) is a supported theory on the difference on what children can achieve
independently and what they can achieve or understand with help from a More Knowledgeable Other
(MKO), which is someone with better understanding or a higher ability than the learner. This can be a
teacher or another student in a school setting. Vygotsky developed his theory on social development
where his main focus was on a child s ZPD, he defines the ZPD as the distance between the actual
developmental level as determined by independent problem solving and the level of potential
development as determined through problem solving under adult guidance, or in collaboration with
more capable peers (Vygotsky,

engines. They are Chevy, Ford, and Dodge engines. They were all high output engines. They are
engines good for 400+ HP. My three favorite things are the 454, 429, and the 426 Hemi. The 454 is
going to be in this first paragraph. The 454 peaked at 460 hp. The factory rating was said to be
underrated. It had a 4.250 bore and a 4 stroke. It was one of GM s big blocks. It did not have the
biggest displacement but it was the one of the highest rated engines. It was a truck engine meaning it

Gender Diversity And Gender Discrimination
Gender diversity and gender discrimination in the tech industry is a highly discussed topic among the
human resources field. Many women continuously feel underrepresented in the field of tech and find
that it is hard to obtain top management positions. This is due to the many problems that women face
while trying to pursue these positions. These problems include overcoming the glass ceiling, dealing
with sexual harassment in the workplace, and women being placed into gender stereotypes.

Personal Reaction The reason why I chose this article was because as a female I found it interesting to
see how women are treated differently due to prejudice in the workplace, especially women who are in
positions of power. In addition, as a woman who would like to work in the corporate business world, I
found it intriguing that a feature as simple as hair colour, can have a major impact on how people
perceive others. As a Muslim woman who wears a Hijab, I have never really faced prejudice based on
my hair, but I have faced prejudice for covering my hair. This sounds contradictory, which is why I
found the article to be of great interest. In addition, since the technology industry is dominated by
men, many people do not see the wrong in what they are doing. Eileen recalls that at a recent party for
software executives, cocktails were served by paid female models, who were dressed like fairies .
Being one of the few female CEOs in the room, Carey says she was in the minority when it came to
seeing the situation as inappropriate and unprofessional (Buckley Butterly, 2017). In addition, another
aspect of the article that made me want to choose it, was how Eileen talks about having choice in the
workplace. With news stories about sexism and gender in the tech industry from Uber to Google
dominating the headlines, Carey says employees must remember they have a choice about where they
work (Buckley Butterly, 2017). These

Themes In Clybourne Park And Water By The Spoonful
Themes are one of the most vital and critical elements of a play s overall significance and meaning.
Without identifying what tools a playwright uses to construct his/her play through a close reading,
such as language, character, or setting, the audience would lack a clear vision of the particular play s
meaning. In the case of Clybourne Park, by Bruce Norris, and Water by the Spoonful, by Quiara
Alegria Hudes, race can be identified as a theme in both, through the use of literary devices, however
it is explored much more subtly in Water by the Spoonful. Race is the major underlying theme in
Clybourne Park, while the themes of community and addiction are dealt with in Water by the
Spoonful. Nevertheless, each play is complete with examples ... Show more content on

Karl s language in this quote, as in the previous, shows his character believes the black race should be
separate from the white community, as he feels they are not equal. He reiterates this when he
ignorantly says, ... fitting into a community is really what it all comes down to (64). Karl s character
evidently proves the theme of race. Here the audience receives a reference to the theme of community.
With the racism of the 1950 s comes the clear divide between the white and black community,
however, the sense that there is still a divide remains in 2009, in the second act.
The racism continues with another white male character, Jim, who pressures black housekeeper,
Francine into admitting that her family and herself would not fit in or feel comfortable living in a
white community. Jim asks, Would this be the sort of neighborhood you d find an attractive place in
which to live? (70). Francine avoids confrontation and simply states, It s a very nice neighborhood
(70). Her use of language is polite, as she does not want to start an argument. Instead of admitting they
would not fit into such a community, as Jim was probing her to admit, she remains calm. Francine
even agrees that there are differences between the two races, and that they live differently, saying in
reply to Jim, I agree with that (73). Rather, Francine may just be giving Jim the answer he wants. She
knows that if she opposes his opinion, she will gain nothing.

What is Periodic Limb Movement Disorder?
Periodic limb movements are when you have episodes of simple, repetitive muscle movements. You
are unable to control them. They usually do not keep you from falling asleep. Instead, they severely
disrupt your sleep during the night. This can cause you to be very tired during the day. They do not
involve a change in body position, stretching a muscle, or a cramp. Instead, the movements tend to
involve the tightening or flexing of a muscle. They occur most often in the lower legs

Nurture The Reason It Has The Most Influence On Humans
Nurture the reason it has the most influence on a humans up bringing Humans are programmed to
carry out physical, mental and emotional developments, but what has the most influence on a human
upbringing and what shapes humans behaviour? Is is nurture which is the environment that we are
raised/socialization and our culture. Nurture the positive encouragement, from a parent or caregiver
towards the physical, mental and behavioural development of a individual. Or is nature your
biological factor/genes that a human obtain from their mother and father. As we go through life we go
through different developmental stages from infancy, adolescence/teenager through to adulthood.
Humans depend on the nurturing from our caregivers, and social groups to help us achieve our
developmental stages successfully, and contributes to a human behaviour. This why i feel that
nurturing has the most influence on a humans upbringing. Humans depend on the nurturing from
parents/caregivers to teach them independence, confidence, to have good self esteem and positive
behaviour. Humans learn through experience by what we see, hear and are taught though our culture
and our environment. Not every human in the world are raised the same, this makes everyone develop
and behave in different ways.. Not one human is the same. Nurturing help influence humans and the
way they behave and act towards other. This contributes to how human behaviour is shaped. Erik

The Israeli Palestinian Conflict And The Jewish Movement
Starting in the late 19th century, the Israeli Palestinian conflict has been a long standing clash between
the Israeli Jews and Palestinian Arabs due to several significant events. The Israeli palestinian conflict
is one that goes way back to the time of the Old Testament. The land known as Israel, was given to the
jewish people by God through Abraham. God Promised to give Abraham s descendants the land
eternally. Throughout the thousand of years, thousands of Arabs have moved to those lands which they
called Palestine. When it comes to whom should own the land, both sides have credible arguments.
The Jews say that it is written in the Bible while the Palestinian Arabs say that they have ruled the
land for thousand of years. The Palestinian Arabs are also the majority of the population in that region.
In the late 19th century, Theodor Herzl founded a group of Jews called the Zionists. According the the
Encyclopedia Britannica, Zionism is the Jewish nationalist movement that has had as its goal the
creation and support of a Jewish national state in Palestine, the ancient homeland of the Jews. The
Zionist immediately began to relocate european Jews to four main cities in Palestine. These cities were
Jerusalem, Hebron, Safed and Tiberias. During this time, Palestine was part of the Ottoman empire
and under direct control of the Ottoman Capital. Fast forwarding a couple of decades to WWI, the
Ottoman Empire began to weaken. In 1917, the British announced the Balfour Declaration

A Rose For Emily Grierson Point Of View
A Rose for Emily follows a first person account of part of Miss Emily Grierson s life leading up to her
death. The narrator talks as if they were speaking for the entire population of Jefferson, but it is more
likely that they are just stating their own opinion on Miss Emily under the guise of the townsfolk. The
point of view in this novel shows an incomplete, or inaccurate opinion on Miss Emily Grierson
because of the narrators own bias. In section 1 the narrator describes Miss Emily as being viewed as a
fallen monument (79) when she died, but when she was alive she was a tradition, a duty and a care

Four men had snuck onto her property instead of consulting her about it to sprinkle lime around and in

what they really were (81), and that the death of Miss Emily s father was a good thing because now
she would be humanized (81) and would know the thrill and the old despair of a penny more or less
(81). When Miss Emily s father died, she kept his body within the house for as long as possible and
claimed that her father was not dead. Soon after the death, they were about to resort to law, she broke
down and let them bury her father. The narrator becomes sympathetic after, stating that we were
sympathetic towards Miss Emily s grieving process, even saying We did not say she was crazy then.
We believed she had to do that. We remembered all the young men her father had driven away, and we
knew that with nothing left, she would have to cling to that which had robbed her, which people will

because not everyone in Jefferson would share the same opinion nor would everyone believe that she

Major Structures Of The Human Brain Essay
The Five Major Structures of the Human Brain
University of Phoenix
PSY 240
October 27, 2012
Olivia Fransis
The human brain is nothing short of incredible. In a way it s the world s most powerful computer
because it can process tasks at lightning speeds and simultaneously be in control of our reflexes and
every other voluntary and involuntary functions. It is the most important and complex organ as well as
our core for learning
At the point of birth, the brain weighs an average of 350 to 400 grams and can weigh from about
1,300 to 1,400 grams as an adult. The brain is composed up of roughly 77 to 78% of water, 10 to 12%

The telencephalon is at the front of the brain and is made up of the basil ganglia, the cerebral cortex,
the olfactory bulb, and the corpus striatum. The functions of the telencephalon include: determining
intelligence, personality, sense of smell, sense of touch, sensory impulse interpretations, organization
and planning.
The diencephalon is located in between the cerebral hemispheres and is greater than the midbrain. It is
composed of the thalamus and hypothalamus structures. The thalamus acts as a relay point for nerve
impulses that are inbound from around the body that are then dispatched to the appropriate area of the
brain for processing. The hypothalamus controls hormone secretions produced from the pituitary
gland. These hormones control growth and instinctual behaviors such as eating, drinking, sex, anger,
and reproduction. The hypothalamus also controls when a new mother begins to lactate. Some of the
functions of the diencephalon include: sensing impulses moving throughout the body, controlling
autonomic functions, endocrine functions, motor functions, homeostasis and basic senses such as
hearing, vision, smell, and taste.
The cerebrum is the bigger portion of the brain and it consists of 85% of the overall weight of the
brain. It has a unique outer surface with deep wrinkles, which is the cerebral cortex that consists of
gray matter . The cerebrum is what makes the human brain as powerful as it is. Unlike

  • 2. Acute Liver Failure Case Studies Looking at Jonathon s labs, vital signs, and physical assessment, along with his recent admissions, I would diagnose him with acetaminophen induced hepatotoxicity. Patients with acute liver failure can present with symptoms such as fever, abdominal pain, fatigue, and anorexia (Lancaster, Hiatt, Zarrinpar, 2015). Jonathon is presenting with fever and abdominal pain. His LFT indicate that acute liver failure is present. At his previous visit, I prescribed him to take the maximum dose of acetaminophen at 4g/day. Since Johnathon admits to taking several over the counter (OTC) brand medications it is possible he took Tylenol, which is the brand name for acetaminophen, and not realizing that he was overdosing. Acetaminophen can be found in many OTC medications. I would ask Johnathon for a complete list of all the OTC medications he was taking, or for him to remember as many as he could. His drinking is also a major concern. Large alcoholic beverage consumption in combination with high doses of acetaminophen can greatly affect the liver. At this point I would be extremely concerned for Jonathon s health. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The majority of acetaminophen, approximately 90%, will be metabolized by glucuronidation (Lancaster et al., 2015). Approximately 10% will be metabolized by cytochrome p450 (Lancaster et al., 2015). From there it will become the reactive metabolite N acetyl p benzo quinone imine (NAPQI) (Lancaster et al., 2015). Under normal circumstances, glutathione (GSH) will convert NAPQI to a nontoxic metabolite (Lancaster et al., 2015). In cases where GSH depletion is present due to acetaminophen overdose, malnutrition, or alcoholism, NAPQI cannot be converted, leading to increased NAPQI levels and subsequently liver damage (Lancaster et al., ... • 3. Dna Coding For Ampicillin Resistance And Green Fluorescent... Abstract This experiment was performed to assess the efficacy of genetic transformations on bacteria via plasmid DNA coding for ampicillin resistance and green fluorescent protein. Genetic transformation was studied by taking transformed and untransformed Escherichia Coli (E. coli) and placing them on various media to observe gene expression via growth and color under UV light. The transformed E. coli were able to grow on ampicillin while the untransformed E. coli, which lacked the plasmid genes for ampicillin resistance, only grew on nutrient broth. In the presence of arabinose, the transformed E. coli glowed green. These results support the previous scientific understanding of bacterial competency, vectors, and gene expression and support gene transformations as an effective method to transfer the desirable DNA of one organism into another organism s DNA. These results can be applied to real world issues such as medical treatments, food production, and environmental conservation. Introduction Genetic engineering is used in health treatments, agricultural applications, and environmental solutions. Genetic transformations incorporate foreign genetic material into the DNA of a different organism via a vector, which carries the genetic material. Plasmid DNA is small, round, and autonomous, due to its origin of replication. In biotechnology, plasmids carry beneficial genes, such as antibiotic resistance, and also a reporter protein, in this case, Green Fluorescent Protein ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Origin Of Paul Ree By Nietzche In the preface, Nietzsche explains that the conception of this book was born out of his reading of friend Paul Ree s Origin of Moral feelings. A book with which Nietzsche found himself at odds with the assertions of Ree. Nietzsche interpreted Ree s work as denying the universality in the principles of right and wrong. Moreover, Nietzsche saw concurrence with Ree s assertions that different societies moral valuations might be defined by that society s cultural needs and conditions. Nietzsche was also interested in Ree s explanation of the origins of responsibility, morality, punishment, and remorse. Against this understanding of Ree s work, Nietzsche penned three essays which make up the work known as The Genealogy of Morals. These essays are considered some of the more clear and comprehensive writings of Nietzsche. Their intent appears to be a continuation in the critique of Christian morality first established in Beyond Good and Evil. The commonly read first essay sees Nietzsche present an opposition between the master morality and that of the slave . By tracing the etymological grounds of the German words schlect ( bad ), gut (good), and bose (evil), Nietzsche forwards the proposition that a distinction between good and bad was born from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Of the three essays, this is probably the one most true to Nietzsche s style of presenting arguments in a non conforming format. The important part for me of this essay is in Nietzsche s ability to see both sides of the problem. While critiquing mainly the asceticism of religion, he also presents the opposite extreme of the problems with science. While Nietzsche does not necessarily reject the ideals of ascetics, he does highlight the thought that morality and culture are artifacts of mankind. Hence, even the metaphysical conceptions of right, wrong, and soul are at their core human made conceptions that must be questioned; not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Causes Of Homegrown Terrorism Even though it is called homegrown terrorism, terrorism does not only start within a home. Although there have been events that lead to roots of what might have caused the terrorism there is always evidence that contradicts itself. Some of these roots are radicalization, religion, and multiculturalism. Every one of these roots has caused terrorism throughout decades which not only has the United Sates tried to stop, but which we have come to conclude that it is something that we cannot control which makes us believe there are other sources and roots of domestic terrorism. Terrorism is not only on certain days or years; terrorism is an everyday fear. American Jihad is an American story about a citizen who belonged to Al Qaeda name Anwar Awlaki who terrorized Boston and Florida. Born in New Mexico, he had a strong rapport with the American Muslim youths at his mosque, thanks to a fluid use of the English language (not a given with Islamic religious leaders, even in the U.S.) and his understanding of popular culture. (Lorraine, 2017) An Article by Los Angeles Times identify religion, culture, and radical thoughts as key factors that influence homegrown terrorism. The article describes him as acting like one of us but knew how to manipulate the internet and social media, using it to disseminate his videotaped teachings to a wider audience. Religion, culture, and radical thought not only were one of his influences on initiating the attacks but another terrorist too. In an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Hate And Love, And American Values In America America is a driven nation in which everyone has different motivators which produce varied results in society and the lives of the Americans. Hate and love, as well as selfishness and selflessness are the primary motivators of individuals as they cause the most amount of passion and debate. Morals will impact these values and cause them to change to match the situation along with the feelings of the individual. At times, these values may contradict each other, such as hate and love or selfishness versus selflessness, yet these contradictions are necessary for its inverse to exist. Without hate, love would not exist. Selfless actions could not be recognized if not for selfish actions. The effect morals have on the individual would go unobserved if there was not a range of beliefs. Although its values can contradict one another, American values are what drives America to the success that it praises itself for. Hate and love are seen as antonyms when in reality the two ideas come in a pair. In order to hate, one must have known love before for as it is impossible to hate something without caring about it in some form. It is very easy for love to develop into hate, and vice versa. Hate will lead to exclusion and bad choices while love will unify and bind the nation together, making it stronger. Although an individual s or a nation s goal may be for peace, the result can be hatred if proper steps laid out in Just War Theory are not taken. Just War Theory acknowledges that there ... • 7. Google Glass, A Wearable Computing Device Abstract This report aims to look at how Google Glass, a wearable computing device, contributes to social and privacy ethical implications. Ethical issues recognised in devices can question the legal rights of a product. However, a study shows that this device may have an opportunity to enhance the quality of the surgical industry. If so, should this device still be used amidst the ethical issues? 1 Introduction 1.1 Wearable Technology Wearable computing is a technology device that can be worn on the human body and often includes devices that can collect information and may even have motion detectors. Wi Fi or Bluetooth tethering is used to connect the device with an internet connection. Evolving examples of wearable technology include smart watches, clothing and jewellery, sports watches, fitness trackers, head mounted displays and devices that can be implanted in the body. 1.2 Augmented Reality Augmented Reality (AR) is technology that allows virtual objects to be layered on to the actual environment in real time. Together, this creates a space called mixed reality. The layers allow detailed information about the world to be visually present whilst wearing the device. AR browsers can enhance camera display with information that is relevant to the place you are at. If you point the device to a building, it can display the details of the building on the building. 2 Defining Ethical Implications Ethical implications are issues that arise within the invention ... Many of America s major historical events such as the California Gold Rush, Homestead Act, and overall settlement west all had something in common. They were aided by the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad. With the west now being part of the United States economy, many people saw this as an opportunity to move and make money. As a result, many relocated west looking for a new beginning or to strike rich and towns and cities started sprouting along the railways (Transportation History 1800 1900). In 1848, gold was discovered in California starting the California Gold Rush (Huntington). Thousands of people across the entire world started traveling to California hoping to become wealthy. The problem was, out of the thousands that went to California, many of them died along the journey. They needed a fast and safe way to get there. After the completion of the Transcontinental Railway, traveling became considerably quicker and safer. Another way these railways aided the westward expansion was through the Homestead Act of 1862 (Huntington). The United State s Homestead Act offered a free 160 acre lots in the unsettled west. Despite there being evidence that hamstring strains occur at both stages of movements; the early stance phase where the muscle absorbs the most force as a result of high ground reaction and the late swing phase, the hamstrings eccentrically contract to absorb the kinetic energy and slow the lower limb putting the hamstrings under a large amount of stress (Schmitt. The intertwining comedy and dramatic moments seamlessly adapted for the screen by Drew Goddard would be nowhere without the greatness that is this diverse, versatile and overall expansive cast. Matt Damon is put in an odd position here as an actor. He s not given much to react to, he s all alone for the vast majority of the film so that rules out any sort of human contact, he s also not actually on Mars which rules out the planetary contact, he s really only got food and practical effects to bounce his reactions off of. Central Limit Theorem Essay The Central Limit Theorem is a statistical theory which states that the shape of a sampling distribution is approximately normal no matter the shape of the population when graphed. This theory works as long as the sample size is larger than 30. To go more into depth to explain this theorem, we could take Grey s Anatomy fans across the United States track their episode watching habits. They could write down how many episodes they watched a week from the beginning of January to the end June. Let s say if I were to keep track of how long I walk my dog if I always take a longer path when I walk the dog during the morning compared to the late afternoon. Putting this data on a graph, it would look binomial like the graph I provided below. Yet just like the Grey s Anatomy example, if we take the means of multiple random samples from the data and plot it on a graph, it would become normal. Another example where the Central Limit Theorem takes place is if I were to record the pitches that my two dogs bark at. My first dog, Oreo, has a deep, hearty bark where as my second dog, Mya, has a high pitched bark. Considering this, if we graphed their barks, there would be a dip in between which would look similar to the graph right above this paragraph. Yet just like the others, if I was to take multiple random samples from the data and figured out the means of each, it would look much more normal and the dip would be gone. Whether it be using Grey s Anatomy watching habits, dog walking habits, or the pitch of a dog bark, the Central Limit Theorem can turn a binomial graph into a normal graph. This can be easily done by taking a random sample of over 30 from the data given, taking the means from each sample, and then plotting them on a graph will give us an approximately normal ... All through the history of the UN peacekeeping operations, there have been just seven ladies so far who were the UN Secretary General s Special Emissaries or Heads of some peacekeeping operation, while there is stand out lady right now serving at such a position2 (Pampell Conoway and Shoemaker, 2008: 8, 23). • 29. Gender Diversity And Gender Discrimination Gender diversity and gender discrimination in the tech industry is a highly discussed topic among the human resources field. Many women continuously feel underrepresented in the field of tech and find that it is hard to obtain top management positions. This is due to the many problems that women face while trying to pursue these positions. These problems include overcoming the glass ceiling, dealing with sexual harassment in the workplace, and women being placed into gender stereotypes. Summary of Article The article that I selected to do my assignment on is titled 100 Women: I dye my hair brown to be taken more seriously at work . The main idea that the article discusses is the lack of diversity in gender within the technology ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Personal Reaction The reason why I chose this article was because as a female I found it interesting to see how women are treated differently due to prejudice in the workplace, especially women who are in positions of power. In addition, as a woman who would like to work in the corporate business world, I found it intriguing that a feature as simple as hair colour, can have a major impact on how people perceive others. As a Muslim woman who wears a Hijab, I have never really faced prejudice based on my hair, but I have faced prejudice for covering my hair. This sounds contradictory, which is why I found the article to be of great interest. In addition, since the technology industry is dominated by men, many people do not see the wrong in what they are doing. Eileen recalls that at a recent party for software executives, cocktails were served by paid female models, who were dressed like fairies . Being one of the few female CEOs in the room, Carey says she was in the minority when it came to seeing the situation as inappropriate and unprofessional (Buckley Butterly, 2017). In addition, another aspect of the article that made me want to choose it, was how Eileen talks about having choice in the workplace. With news stories about sexism and gender in the tech industry from Uber to Google dominating the headlines, Carey says employees must remember they have a choice about where they work (Buckley Butterly, 2017). Second, I have fallen in love with my master Duke Orsino, but cannot declare it, as I am disguised as a eunuch. Third, just when I am burdened with troubles, another arrowhead has to fall on my back. It appears that the Countess Olivia, whom my master has sent me to woo on his behalf, has apparently fallen for me on our first meeting, without even knowing my name! I have no idea how she managed it. I am still getting used to my male disguise and am speaking of my master, not myself. I wonder how and I wonder why she did it. I cry softly to myself that Olivia may pine her days away for me, the unattainable husband. In turn, I will weep for Orsino and my inability to reveal my true feelings. Lastly, I shed more tears for Orsino, to see him in this state wrenches my heart to bits. For the lady who does not desire him, whose lack of love is stabbing him. How will I ever go on living like this? I will still be meeting my master and Olivia daily, no doubt. Will I succumb to Olivia s desires and rip Orsino s heart, lungs and all, or reveal my true identity to Orsino and shred Olivia s already battered heart? I guess the best solution is to keep the three of us trapped in limbo for the longest time possible until something happens that purifies the air or one of us leaves. • 31. Themes In Clybourne Park And Water By The Spoonful Themes are one of the most vital and critical elements of a play s overall significance and meaning. Without identifying what tools a playwright uses to construct his/her play through a close reading, such as language, character, or setting, the audience would lack a clear vision of the particular play s meaning. In the case of Clybourne Park, by Bruce Norris, and Water by the Spoonful, by Quiara Alegria Hudes, race can be identified as a theme in both, through the use of literary devices, however it is explored much more subtly in Water by the Spoonful. Race is the major underlying theme in Clybourne Park, while the themes of community and addiction are dealt with in Water by the Spoonful. Nevertheless, each play is complete with examples ... Karl s language in this quote, as in the previous, shows his character believes the black race should be separate from the white community, as he feels they are not equal. He reiterates this when he ignorantly says, ... fitting into a community is really what it all comes down to (64). Karl s character evidently proves the theme of race. Here the audience receives a reference to the theme of community. With the racism of the 1950 s comes the clear divide between the white and black community, however, the sense that there is still a divide remains in 2009, in the second act. The racism continues with another white male character, Jim, who pressures black housekeeper, Francine into admitting that her family and herself would not fit in or feel comfortable living in a white community. Jim asks, Would this be the sort of neighborhood you d find an attractive place in which to live? (70). Francine avoids confrontation and simply states, It s a very nice neighborhood (70). Her use of language is polite, as she does not want to start an argument. Instead of admitting they would not fit into such a community, as Jim was probing her to admit, she remains calm. Francine even agrees that there are differences between the two races, and that they live differently, saying in reply to Jim, I agree with that (73). Rather, Francine may just be giving Jim the answer he wants. She knows that if she opposes his opinion, she will gain nothing. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 35. The Israeli Palestinian Conflict And The Jewish Movement Starting in the late 19th century, the Israeli Palestinian conflict has been a long standing clash between the Israeli Jews and Palestinian Arabs due to several significant events. The Israeli palestinian conflict is one that goes way back to the time of the Old Testament. The land known as Israel, was given to the jewish people by God through Abraham. God Promised to give Abraham s descendants the land eternally. Throughout the thousand of years, thousands of Arabs have moved to those lands which they called Palestine. When it comes to whom should own the land, both sides have credible arguments. The Jews say that it is written in the Bible while the Palestinian Arabs say that they have ruled the land for thousand of years. The Palestinian Arabs are also the majority of the population in that region. In the late 19th century, Theodor Herzl founded a group of Jews called the Zionists. According the the Encyclopedia Britannica, Zionism is the Jewish nationalist movement that has had as its goal the creation and support of a Jewish national state in Palestine, the ancient homeland of the Jews. The Zionist immediately began to relocate european Jews to four main cities in Palestine. These cities were Jerusalem, Hebron, Safed and Tiberias. During this time, Palestine was part of the Ottoman empire and under direct control of the Ottoman Capital. Fast forwarding a couple of decades to WWI, the Ottoman Empire began to weaken. • 36. A Rose For Emily Grierson Point Of View A Rose for Emily follows a first person account of part of Miss Emily Grierson s life leading up to her death. The narrator talks as if they were speaking for the entire population of Jefferson, but it is more likely that they are just stating their own opinion on Miss Emily under the guise of the townsfolk. The point of view in this novel shows an incomplete, or inaccurate opinion on Miss Emily Grierson because of the narrators own bias. In section 1 the narrator describes Miss Emily as being viewed as a fallen monument (79) when she died, but when she was alive she was a tradition, a duty and a care (79). This is the first example the reader gets of the narrators conflicting bias towards Miss Emily. It is likely that when she was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Four men had snuck onto her property instead of consulting her about it to sprinkle lime around and in her buildings. When the smell eventually disappears the narrator states that the town began to feel sorry for her because of the madness that ran in her family. The narrator almost immediately contradicts himself by stating that it was believed the Griersons held themselves a little too high for what they really were (81), and that the death of Miss Emily s father was a good thing because now she would be humanized (81) and would know the thrill and the old despair of a penny more or less (81). When Miss Emily s father died, she kept his body within the house for as long as possible and claimed that her father was not dead. Soon after the death, they were about to resort to law, she broke down and let them bury her father. The narrator becomes sympathetic after, stating that we were sympathetic towards Miss Emily s grieving process, even saying We did not say she was crazy then. We believed she had to do that. We remembered all the young men her father had driven away, and we knew that with nothing left, she would have to cling to that which had robbed her, which people will (81). This shows another inaccurate view of the towns opinion of Miss Emily at this point in time, because not everyone in Jefferson would share the same opinion nor would everyone believe that she wasn t crazy. The narrator groups everyone in Jefferson together, making the town as a whole a character by generalizing what would have been their opinions or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The diencephalon is located in between the cerebral hemispheres and is greater than the midbrain. It is composed of the thalamus and hypothalamus structures. The thalamus acts as a relay point for nerve impulses that are inbound from around the body that are then dispatched to the appropriate area of the brain for processing. The hypothalamus controls hormone secretions produced from the pituitary gland. These hormones control growth and instinctual behaviors such as eating, drinking, sex, anger, and reproduction. The hypothalamus also controls when a new mother begins to lactate. Some of the functions of the diencephalon include: sensing impulses moving throughout the body, controlling autonomic functions, endocrine functions, motor functions, homeostasis and basic senses such as hearing, vision, smell, and taste.
