The document discusses requirements for an enterprise architecture (EA) management tool. It outlines goals of EA like managing complexity and supporting decision making. Effective EA tools need to support frameworks, document current architectures, and help gain support from executives. The document discusses user roles an EA tool should support, as well as repository, modeling, and other functional requirements. It proposes a web-based EA tool design that meets the outlined requirements through a shared central repository, version control, and support for multiple frameworks.
1. The document discusses five projects that pushed enterprise architecture beyond just IT, including modelling business information at a telco, process modelling for logistics, managing information for aircraft research, developing a high-level strategy for a bank, and designing complexity management in Army operations.
2. Many current enterprise architecture frameworks are too IT-centric and don't adequately cover other industries and contexts involving information, physical things, people, and organizational purpose.
3. True enterprise architecture requires considering all four dimensions of physical transactions, knowledge, people relationships, and business direction/purpose and how they integrate into a coherent whole.
The document discusses two popular enterprise architecture frameworks - TOGAF and Zachman. It provides an overview of what enterprise architecture is, its key drivers and benefits. It then describes the major components of TOGAF including the Architecture Development Method (ADM) and supporting artifacts. Next, it outlines the Zachman Framework and how it classifies architectures based on perspectives and communication questions. Finally, it summarizes the benefits architectures provide including standardized processes, reduced complexity and improved decision making.
The presentation tries to explore Enterprise Architecture research opportunities through considering EA with regard to three metaphors : as an architecture toolkit metaphor, as an operational scoreboard metaphor, and as a strategic scoreboard metaphor.

Enterprise Architecture Framework: Chase Global BankHampus Ahlqvist
The document summarizes a service-centric enterprise architecture developed for Chase Global Bank. It includes an abstract, development cycle outline, drivers for the architecture, a strategic alignment model, associated risks and opportunities, internal/external analyses, a top-level organizational chart, and conceptual IT/business services map. The architecture aims to align business and IT strategies through common services and views to create customer value.
Service-oriented architecture, or SOA, is well-known as a way to structure IT systems. It has obvious connections with enterprise-architecture: a key theme of TOGAF (The Open Group Architecture Framework) conferences has been about how IT-architecture underpins SOA. Yet SOA can - and must - be about more than just IT. The aim of this presentation is to extend SOA ideas to the whole enterprise, as "the service oriented enterprise" - and adapt the TOGAF ADM to suit.

Enterprise architecture provides four main values: 1) It secures alignment between IT and business strategies by using a common language of business processes. 2) It supports long-term transformation by providing a map to ensure steps go in the right direction towards shared goals. 3) It identifies optimization opportunities by providing indicators on process costs and complexity. 4) It supports business continuity by documenting key IT assets so the business does not lose them if experts leave.
Enterprise Business Architecture in Practice -- Leveraging EBA for Success on...SteveMelville
Pragmatic recommendations for leveraging Enterprise Business Architecture (EBA) to avoid common pitfalls of ERP/CRM projects. While there is ample literature on the theory and concepts of Enterprise Business Architecture, this talk distills recommendations gleaned from actually having tried to apply EBA on Sun Microsystems "IBIS" project. This multi-year, multi-deployment program impacted more than 250 business processes spanning virtually all of Sun\'s core value streams: Concept-to-Offering, Campaign-to-Sales Order, Order-to-Cash, Supply Chain Plan-to-Stock, Issue-to-Resolution, and Financial Accounting-to-Reporting. It targeted more than 50% of Sun\'s entire application portfolio for replacement. The presentation describes how EBA can be leveraged to avoid the cost overruns, schedule slips, and missed business expectations that are often encountered on ERP/CRM implementation efforts.

BIOMETRIC AND RFID TECHNOLOGY FUSSION: A SECURITY AND MONITORING MEASURES TO ...Henry Chukwuemeka Paul
This paper aims at evaluating, compare the RFID and Biometric technology and report result based on the performances in terms of various parameters that is analyzed. Currently, most schools and institutions do have difficulties to monitor their students’ security and attendance system using either RFID Card or biometrics alone, where the procedures are inefficient in monitoring the students’ security and managing their attendance. The application of RFID Card system as a school monitoring system to improve class attendance procedure, automatically monitor the interest group movements and increases their security. Using RFID makes it easier and faster to detect students’ attendance in a lecture class. In this system, the fingerprint recognition is also adopted to enhance the procedure of identifying authentication of student more securely and reliable for facilities management, gateway access and facilities control, it will also help the school management to provide visibility of assets and effective user tracking.

This document discusses the history and principles of mixed land use development. It begins by defining mixed land use as any combination of residential, commercial, and industrial uses that are physically and functionally integrated. The document then outlines the history of mixed land use, noting that traditional settlements were typically mixed use but industrialization led to more separated uses. It describes how modern zoning laws further separated uses but that mixed use is now seen as beneficial for compact development, pedestrian environments, and strong communities.
Architectural Design Basics - أساسيات التصميم المعماريGalala University
The objective of this course is to familiarize students with architectural graphics and to introduce them to the principles and processes of design through a sequence of exercises emphasizing development of basic skills, ideas, and techniques used in the design of simplified architectural projects.
The document discusses various aspects of the building design process, including:
- Common influences on design such as client needs, codes and regulations, site conditions, sustainability, and costs.
- The nonlinear and iterative nature of design which involves both rational problem solving and intuitive creative leaps.
- The importance of extensive pre-design work to fully understand the project goals and constraints before beginning the design of the building.
- How architects translate abstract ideas and factors like needs, theories, budgets into appropriate physical buildings through skills like analysis, concept creation, and evaluation.
As the flagship project for the next downtown Boston neighborhood slated for growth, Atlantic Wharf will be the city of Boston’s first LEED Gold mixed-use development. CBT Architects presents a case study on this new one million square foot project that includes approximately 65 residential units, ground-level retail and public spaces, six stories of below-grade parking, and 31 floors of office space that will bring urban activity directly to the Fort Point Channel water’s edge.
The new sustainable development is at the base of a series of restored and renovated historic structures that preserve the texture and streetscape of this site, integrated with a modern highrise glass tower. By preserving the south and east façades of the historic warehouses, using a very energy-efficient curtainwall, and employing green roof technologies, Atlantic Wharf will be the a centerpiece of Boston's green development.
This document discusses the importance of site analysis for architectural design. It explains that site analysis involves taking an inventory of various site elements, including topography, climate, vegetation, and analyzing how they relate to the client's needs. The inventory should gather information about subsurface features like geology and hydrology, natural surface features like slopes and wildlife, and cultural/man-made features like utilities, land use, and circulation. Understanding these site conditions through analysis is crucial for establishing an ideal building location and incorporating local features into a successful design.
The document outlines a 12-step problem solving methodology for quality circles. The steps include: 1) identifying and categorizing problems, 2) selecting problems, 3) defining the problem, 4) analyzing the problem, 5) identifying causes, 6) finding root causes, 7) data analysis, 8) developing solutions, 9) foreseeing resistance, 10) trial implementation, 11) regular implementation, and 12) follow-up and review. Various tools like flow diagrams, brainstorming, data collection, graphs and charts are recommended across multiple steps to systematically analyze problems, develop and test solutions, and ensure improvements are sustained. Not all steps may apply to every problem.
Structured Approach to Solution ArchitectureAlan McSweeney
The role of solution architecture is to identify answer to a business problem and set of solution options and their components. There will be many potential solutions to a problem with varying degrees of suitability to the underlying business need. Solution options are derived from a combination of Solution Architecture Dimensions/Views which describe characteristics, features, qualities, requirements and Solution Design Factors, Limitations And Boundaries which delineate limitations. Use of structured approach can assist with solution design to create consistency. The TOGAF approach to enterprise architecture can be adapted to perform some of the analysis and design for elements of Solution Architecture Dimensions/Views.

It addresses shortcomings in existing meta models by incorporating additional business elements and contextual factors. The meta model has been applied successfully in real-world projects across multiple industries.
Process perspective is valuable, but far too much time is wasted in detailed process modelling with too little benefit. Presents an approach that delivers high benefits for less effort.
Techniques and Deliverables of Business Architecture module exampleGraham McLeod
Business architecture is concerned with designing something new to satisfy a purpose and then overseeing its realization. It considers the elements required to meet goals, their properties, relationships, interfaces, and responsibilities. Business architecture optimizes the relationship between the designed solution, its environment, and its users. It facilitates desirable future business states through design and change.
This document discusses enterprise architecture (EA) principles. It notes that principles should connect strategic intent with projects and how they are carried out. Defining good principles across EA domains is challenging. The document explores the power of principles, engaging stakeholders to define principles, examples of good principles, and how organizations can establish their own principles. It also provides an agenda on various topics relating to EA principles, including their structure and what makes them effective. The overall message is that principles are important to guide decision-making and shape actions in EA.
An Inspired Approach to Business ArchitectureGraham McLeod
- Business architecture is broader than just providing inputs to enterprise architecture. It involves designing the future state of the entire organization to achieve business goals.
- An agreed upon meta model can integrate various business architecture perspectives by establishing a common vocabulary and conceptual model. Populating models that conform to the meta model allows analysis from different viewpoints.
- Different representations and visualizations of the models are needed for various stakeholders. Dynamic methods can generate customized project plans by selecting required products, tasks, and resources from a method model.
The document provides an introduction and overview of domain modeling. It defines a domain model as a conceptual model that contains important concepts and relationships for a particular domain, such as banking or healthcare. It is a high-level view of information requirements and structure that is shared across an organization. Domain models serve purposes such as providing a shared terminology and overview of an organization's data. The document describes common notation used in domain models and provides an example fragment of a banking domain model.
Discusses the imperative for innovation in organizations and the changing role of the Enterprise and Business Architect in facilitating desirable business change.

Deep Support for SOA in EA Frameworks & Meta ModelsGraham McLeod

Engaging Real Business People in Real Business ArchitectureGraham McLeod
We often hear I.T. Architects complain that the business strategy is not clear and that they cannot get
business owners and executives to participate in the EA activity, thus leaving the whole ship, in a
sense, “rudderless”. When we look at what is discussed with business people as “business architecture”
we are not too surprised. EA in most organizations (and in TOGAF) has “grown upwards from IT”
towards the business process management space. Few organizations are doing real Business
Architecture.
This talk is part evangelism for relevant and comprehensive Business Architecture as well as an
experience report, drawing upon work with organizations in telecommunications, health care,
banking, assurance, government and software industries over many years.
We will cover the scope of business architecture, a meta model for business architecture, how to deal with scenarios and “what ifs”, ideas on how to engage the real owners and executives of the business and illustrate the ideas with examples from experience. We hope to provoke some discussion on how
these ideas could be incorporated into TOGAF.

2. Abstract
Businesses are under pressure to be effective, efficient and agile
– THE CHALLENGE: Achieving these simultaneously in organisations undergoing
change, competing in aggressive markets and absorbing technological turbulence
An architecture approach with an agile slant can help
– Only constant is change
– Cannot predict what the future holds
What we can do is
– Understand what we have, its strengths and limitations
– Set in place principles and goals which guide decision making
Taking a service oriented approach, we can identify
– Constants, such as external stakeholders, product and services, industry
requirements and generic internal services
Models and tools can help us
– Evaluate alternatives quickly and cost effectively
– Communicate strategy succinctly to implementors
– Serve as a basis for planning activity and monitoring progress
This presentation, based on 15 years experience across a variety of industries and
organisations, provides a framework and examples to explain the approach.
