Three Categories That Signify Public Service Motives
This week reading highlights the 3 categories that signify Public service motives, in which Dr. Wise
described as the process that causes individuals to perform acts that contribute to the public good as a
way of satisfying their personal need (Stillman, 319). These types are: Affective motive, Rational
motives and norm based motives. Affective motives is embedded in the individuals emotion, it allows
the individual to connect with the public organization based on the need to protect the organization,
the environment and self identify with the program. Rational motives are the need to fulfill one
personal since of identification, in better word the need to fit in and hold an important role within a
program. These individuals seek power,

Government Power and Authorities
#1. (Chapter 2) Define Federalism and Separation of Powers, Identify the Major Sources of State and
Federal authorities explicit to the Constitution, and explain why the division of powers architecture
was important to the Framers.
Federalism is the division of Governmental powers and authorities between the State and Federal
Governments. Separation of Powers is not actually labeled or defined within the constitution.
However, the Framers of the constitution found to avoid tyranny, a separation or division of authority
must exist (Feldmeier Hall, 2012). They believed if the powers and authorities weren t separated there
would be sheer chaos in the Nation. The U.S. Constitution explains the authorities the State and

Supreme Court cases in the area.
Once a person is officially elected to be the United States President, he is entitled to presidential
privilege. Presidential privilege consists of matters of confidentiality. A matter Presidential privilege
was first questioned by a federal court in the 1807 treason prosecution of Aaron Burr. An issue in
United States v. Burr was the production of a letter Aaron Burr had sent to President Thomas Jefferson
(Feldmeier Hall, 2012). In this case, President Jefferson had to produce the said letter. Presidential
privilege was questioned again when President Nixon was in office. There were accusations of

Vikings coming for a fouth time by Melissa Wlostoski Vikings season 4 premised on the History

health coming into play again and it was not good. His wife ruled his land while he was away. She
doesn t really want to give up her rule of the place. We also see his brother in Paris where he s living
out the deal he was ofter by the king of the city. Which include being married to his daughter and
defending Paris, against the Vikings in exchange for land and a title. The opening scenes consists of
Ragner having some kind of near death vision of where he denied entrance to Valhalla the Viking

his brother did once. his brother is officially married to the princess of Paris. Unfortunately the woman
really doesn t want to marry him. There is also a little bit of time jump that occur as well. Which do
not hurt the episode in my opinion. Its not like done in a way that is awkard or doesn t work for the

Gattaca Social Implications
A film like Gattaca can teach us about the social implications of biotechnology in today s society to a
moderate extent. While science teaches us about some of the more physical implications of
biotechnology on the individual, science fiction, and subsequently Gattaca, also teaches us the
implications of biotechnology on society as a whole. Through the use of various cinematic techniques,
Gattaca teaches us the other half of the implications of biotechnology that are often obscured amidst
the evident implications on an individual s health and wellbeing prejudice.
Gattaca explores the social implications of biotechnology affecting the life of a young man named
Vincent who has dreams of space travel that are thwarted due to his genetic inferiority. ... Show more

The technology used by the Freemans to conceive Anton is similar to modern in vitro fertilisation
(IVF). Furthermore, one contemporary use of biotechnology is preimplantation genetic diagnosis
(PGD), which consists of extracting eight cells from an IVF generated three day old embryo at risk of
genetic disorder, and analysing its DNA to locate genes correlated with genetic defects. This
technology proves beneficial as only embryos free of genetic defects are implanted into the uterus.
Moreover, PGD enables parents to choose their children s characteristics, such as gender, and, in the
near future, other desirable traits like intelligence, akin to what occurs in Gattaca, which presents its
devastating repercussions. PGD can be utilised to conceive a child with the purpose of saving another.
Namely, book turned film My Sister s Keeper documents the life of a girl who was conceived purely
to keep her sister, suffering from leukaemia, alive, by undergoing countless medical procedures. This
carries with it its own ethical dilemmas, including the psychological development of a child who
knows they were only born to save their sibling s life and the possibility of treatment failing and
ensuing disappointment. Both the technologies used in Gattaca to create genetically perfect babies and
in modern society have the potential to facilitate widespread discrimination. The prejudice caused by
this biotechnology in Gattaca is made apparent by Vincent s voiceover narration. During a flashback
to the past, Vincent narrates his experiences when he was a cleaner in Gattaca, reproachfully saying,
And now we have discrimination down to a science , warning us about the potential implications of
similar biotechnology on today s society. These consequences are often imperceptible to the public,
and Gattaca brings them to light, prompting questioning

Rogerian Death Penalty
Capital punishment, the state imposed penalty of death, continues to be one of the most controversial
issues in contemporary American public policy. Since the earliest days of its employment in the
colonial era until today, citizens have struggles with the issue of when and under what circumstances
the taking of a human life by the state can be morally or legally justified. For some opponents of the
death penalty, the simple answer is that the taking of a human life is always morally and ethically
wrong, even when conducted under the auspices of state authority as a legal punishment. In contrast,
proponents of capital punishment have contended with equal fervor that the death penalty is morally
justified as a form of retributive justice, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Abolitionist states seem unlikely to adopt capital statutes, and most death penalty states conducting
executions seem equally unlikely to eliminate the punishment. Similarly, states where the death
penalty is used frequently, such as Texas, seem certain to continue doing so, while those states that use
it infrequently., such as California, seems unlikely to begin frequent use (Hill, 2014). The utilitarian
theory would view the death penalty as moral because they look at what would make most the people
happy. Utilitarianism was founded by John Stuart Mills and Jeremy Bentham. By killing the person
who took another person s live, the victim s family would be pleased that justice was served, and the
rest of society would be happy knowing that the murderer would never be able to escape and harm
them. This theory does allow life without parole as an alternative to the death penalty, since the
murderer is still being punished and society s happiness would

Disadvantages Of Big Data
Introduction
Big Data is the new buzzword recently discussed highly in industry, academia and research as it was
generated profusely due to the technology revolution caused by Internet of Things (IoT).Knowledge
Management being a strategic process carried out in industry with great focus was seriously impacted
by the Big Data and its analytics as they were interchangeability used in various context relating to
Information and Knowledge Management. The reason is none other than the significance of Data in
the KM system, as a tool that link people, technology and processes. As the Data increased in its size,
speed, variety, complexity and variability it became Big Data . This study actually tries to explain the
key components of KM in organizations and the characteristics of Big Data and their mutual impact.

Several explanations were given about the buzzword Big Data . Big Data describes a process in which
serious computing power is applied to seriously massive and often highly complex sets of information
(Microsoft Research, 2013). Big data is also defined as a cultural, technological, and scholarly
phenomenon based on three elements such as Technology, Analysis and Mythology (Boyd and
Crawford, 2012). The first reason behind the quick expansion of Big Data is the extensive degree to
which data are created, shared and utilized across the organizations and virtual networks formally and
informally in the recent times. Digitization, that is, the transformation of analogue signals into digital
ones, reached massive popularity in the early 1990s. The data information knowledge wisdom
hierarchy offers an alternative view, according to which information appears as data that are structured

This is not a Fairy Tale: An Analysis of The Circle by Dave Eggers
The fairy tales passed down from generation to generation have planted the idea of an happily ever
after in the head of every developing child. Since then human beings have been hardwired to strive for
their own personal happy ending. We are so fixated on this idea that we expect every story to end well,
and when it doesn t we feel cheated. Maybe happy endings should be reserved solely for the children s
fairy tales. While some readers may argue that stories with a positive ending provide a more clear
resolution, I would argue that the clear resolution that comes with happy endings is not always what
readers need to feel whole. The completeness you feel in response to a story often comes from an
important lesson that changes your outlook or perception. The greatest ... Show more content on

Maria Theresa, the daughter of Holy Roman Emperor Charles VI, was the last ruler of the House of
Habsburg. Prior to Theresa s birth, in 1700 Holy Roman Emperor Leopold I and Archdukes Joseph
and Charles of Austria signed the Mutual Pact of Succession, giving the eldest son s daughters a
higher position in the line of succession. After Emperor Leopold I and Joseph I died, Archduke
Charles of Austria ascended the throne. As the last male heir of the Habsburg Empire, Charles VI
issued the Pragmatic Sanction of 1713. With this, Charles VI s nieces were placed behind his
daughters in the line of succession. Though Prince Eugene of Savoy, Charles VI s advisor, urged
against the sanction, in favor of expanding the Austrian military and treasury, Charles VI secured the
sanction, leaving Austria bankrupted. As the heir of the bankrupt state, Maria Theresa would face great
losses in the War of the Austrian Succession and Seven Years War as a result of Austria s
impoverished state.

Summary Of 1950 V. Gordon Childe
In 1950, V. Gordon Childe had an article titled The Urban Revolution published in The Town Planning
Review. In this article, Childe wrote about ten characteristics that he defined as central to the
formation of a civilization. Later, these would later be separated into five primary and five secondary
characteristics by Charles Redman of Arizona State University. These characteristics are considered
by (Childe 1950:16) to have exhaust(ed) the factors common to the oldest cities. Simplified by (Price

Using the term road is perhaps a bit of an overstatement, typically the road was little more than a well
beaten path and they generally were narrow, ranging from three to fifty two feet wide at any given
point (Price and Feinman 2013:409). These roads also covered vastly different terrain, roads were
present at both the top of the Andes Mountain range, and also on the coast of what is now Peru,
Bolivia, and Argentina (Karam 2001). It is unclear whether the Inca forged every path entirely on their
own, or if they simply acquired them through conquest of other natives. According to (Karam
2001:355 357) one thing is certain however, and that is that the Inca were the ones to assemble the
roads into a single network and subsequently maintained them. The Tampu were perhaps the most
important administrative institution created by the Inca alone and they would certainly be considered
innovative by any European society of the same era. Not only did they serve practical purposes for

revolution started was because of the Renaissances was beginning and everyone was starting to think
for themselves and Galileo was one of the leaders that caused the Scientific revolution or at least
spread it. One major thing that leads to these scientific discoveries they were stuck in religion and they

Dante Di Gregorio, Douglas E Thomas, Fernán González de Castilla. International Journal of

Abstract (Summary)
We analyze how competitive dynamics within the Mexican retail sector have shifted following the
entrance and ascendance of Wal Mart, and how Mexican retailers have responded individually and
collectively to Wal Mart s dominance. We discuss implications for strategic management and
international business research as well as for managers of emerging market firms that face dominant

To analyze these competitive interactions, we draw on the competitive dynamics stream of research
within strategic management (e.g., Grimm Smith, 1997; Smith, Ferrier Ndofor, 2001; Ketchen, Snow
Hoover, 2004). We show how competitive dynamics have evolved in the Mexican retail industry
following the entrance and dominance of Wal Mart. We conclude with a discussion of the implications
for both theory and practice.
1. Competitive Dynamics between Dominant Multinationals and Emerging Market Firms
Emerging economies are generally characterized by a rapid pace of economic growth, increasing
liberalization of trade and investment regimes, and economic restructuring (Hoskisson et al, 2000).
Mexico, for instance, maintained high trade barriers and imposed strict limitations on foreign
investment through the mid 1980s. From the point at which Mexico joined the General Agreement on
Tariffs and Trade in 1986 through the implementation of the North American Free Trade Agreement
with Canada and the United States in 1994 and a broad range of similar agreements with other
countries, Mexican firms became increasingly exposed to competitive pressures from foreign firms in
the form of imported products as well as foreign owned operations in Mexico. In this respect, the
Mexican experience is similar to that of emerging economies throughout Latin America (which also

The Overpopulation Of The Ohio Valley
In the United States, about 7.6 million companion animals enter animal shelters every year. The
overpopulation of these animals and the fact that they have no homes leads to about 40% of them
being euthanized (ASPCA). This is a global issue, but the root of it can be found within the local
community at The Humane Society of the Ohio Valley.
The director of this animal shelter, Kelly Goedel, says that the cause of animal homelessness is
primarily the lack of spaying and neutering along with the lack of commitment that pet owners have to
their companion (Goedel). Spaying and neutering is sometimes avoided by pet owners because it is an
extra expense or they may feel as if it is unnecessary. This challenge leads to an excess in animal
populations without there necessarily being and increase in homes for these animals. The challenge of
overcoming pet overpopulation becomes even more difficult because of a lack of funding. According
to the Humane Society of the Ohio Valley, only about 20 percent of their funding comes from local
government (Goedel). Therefore, they are very reliant on donors and community funds to help finance
their organization. The funding issue circles back to complicate the process of getting homeless pets
spayed and neutered to attempt to solve the root cause of animal overpopulation.
The basis of our project was to raise funds and awareness for the HSOV. We wanted to reach out to as
many people as we could so we can spread the issue of the shelters.

This article is about allowing the black market of organs to be legalized and regulated, and discusses
how allowing people to sell their organs actually benefit people in medical need of an organ;
essentially patients on the transplantation waiting list (Pietrobon, 2016). The author dissects the
controversial method of regulation and provides evidence to support their argument. In addition, the
author addressed the opposing side, which are against regulation of the market because it is morally

lack of evidence to support the harmful affects on society. Two arguments were given to attest that

I can see the positive and negative in both methods. The fundamental problem with all parents is
selfishness. When Western parents don t do enough to help their kids reach their potential, they are
selfish, and probably too busy doing what we feel like doing. And when Chinese parents force kids to
do what will bring the parents praise, they are selfish too. I think that the correct approach is a balance
between Chinese and Western parenting, with the focus being on commitment to your children. If
parent can find the balance between these two types then both sides will have succefull children. I
really believe Western parental method and Chinese parental method can both be used. You can t be
too soft and too hard. You have to balance it out.

The Importance Of Intolerance Of Puritans In The Crucible
As famously written by George Orwell, Big Brother is watching you. In the eyes of the Puritans, God
is the Big Brother watching over them in their mission to become the city upon a hill. They devote
themselves to pleasing Him, eventually becoming obsessed with their status as the paragon of a
Puritan society. However, as their ideologies become increasingly restrictive, their intolerance of
misconduct also consolidates, and their utmost faithfulness ultimately leads to their untimely
destruction. While John Winthrop, the governor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony, delivers A Model
of Christian Charity, laying out the societal expectations of Puritans, Jonathan Edwards in Sinners in
the Hands of an Angry God aggressively warns the Puritans of the wrath of God, and Arthur Miller
denounces their flawed ideology and the paranoia it induces in The Crucible. In 1692, the small,
quaint town of Salem Village is in absolute mayhem when a group of young girls claim there is evil
amongst them. Due to their intolerance of imperfections in their community, Puritans mark the
beginning of the Salem witch trials and their doom. Despite their original objective to create a utopian
society based purely on faithfulness, the Puritans unquenchable thirst for protecting their reputation
creates a domino effect of events provoking their downfall.
The Puritans need for perfection due to their God given responsibility to maintain their status as the
city upon a hill is inherently dangerous to their society. Rather than confront and fix imperfections in
their community, the authorities dangerously label them as evil, which becomes a corrupt case of
terrible victory of prejudice over reason (Shapiro). Their incessant desire to be a flawless, united
group of quintessential Puritans becomes a threat to their existence as they attempt to prevent any kind
of disunity that might open it to destruction by material or ideological enemies, a tactic utilized by any
fanatical group (Miller 5). It is imperative for citizens to have the same mindset and share the same
ideologies, however, if an individual speaks against the accepted beliefs, he is believed to be a threat
to society and therefore is alienated and exterminated, an

Basic Bargain Analysis
The term basic bargain became a relevant term in American during 1947 to 1975 better known as the
Great Prosperity. The country was providing the workers with enough money to buy what they had
produced. This bargain wanted to make sure that the pay of the workers coincided with their output
(p51). It was during this time that mass production and mass consumption went hand in hand. This
was also a time that brought the nation to more than halfway to perfect equality (p43). One might say
that the term basic bargain was one greatly understood by Henry Ford. He was able to understand that
those who work are also those who buy. Being able to contribute to the cycle of buying the goods and
services that others produce, is the main reason Ford increased his assembly line workers pay to five
dollars per eight hour day. He was also able to understand that if those employees earnings were not
sufficient enough to sustain ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The problem that halted the growth of the economy is not the lack of jobs but the little pay that is
received to do these jobs. There will be a cycle that comes where there are plenty of jobs and then
times where the jobs are scaries, but again that is not the issue. The issue occurs when Americans have
to take those jobs but accept a lower pay from what they were making before. We see many people
going to college and making out on Wall Street, but while they are making their share of the ecomoinc
growth, those are the bottom are struggling. If we were able to regrow the economic and redistrube
this wealth we can invest the money into educational programs, pubic universities, job training, and
better public transportation. With spending the wealth back out this way it could provide workers with
more bargaining rights to nogiate for higher wages. Intsead people have allowed the companies to
break their bargain power, by cutting benefits, health care, and busting unions,

Hate Crime Statistics
Hate Crimes are defined by the Hate Crime Statistics Act as a criminal offense committed against a
person or property motivated by a person s belief or opinions against a race, religion, ethnic group, or
a groups sexual orientation. The term hate crime can also be misleading in that it is supposed to be
motivated by prejudice which is not clear in either legal or demeanor terms. Do I believe that the FBI
can provide an accurate count of the number of so called hate crimes in the United States? No, I don t
think that the FBI can provide an accurate account on the number of hate crimes in the United States,
even though there is a new law requiring the collection and reporting of hate crime statistics. It is

Morning After Pill
There is a pill becoming readily available that would aid in reducing the amount of unwanted
pregnancies. It is the morning after pill as it is being called. This pill can be used during the first three
days after unprotected sexual intercourse to prevent the fertilization of an egg or the attachment of a
fertilized egg to a woman s uterus. The question is not necessarily in the ethical issue of the pill itself.
The problem or question lies in the issue of the pill being sold with or without a prescription. The
measure would allow girls and women to obtain this medication, without a physician s visit or
prescription and without parental consent regardless of the patient s age.
For those who believe that every fertilized egg is a human ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not only for the individuals trying to purchase the pill but also for pharmacists. There is a spillover
effect to also consider; how the medication will be sold. Will it be put next to over the counter drugs
or condoms? Or would it be sold only behind the counter, meaning the pharmacist still must hand then
over even though no do prescription is required? These are questions that need to be considered before
making a decision.
In Summary, the pill remedies the chance of ineffectiveness of methods of contraception like birth
control and condoms without invasive surgery. The pill has the potential to reduce the number of
surgical abortions and undesired pregnancies in the United States considerably, especially if it is
provided over the counter. The pill is radically more effective the sooner one takes it after intercourse
and the great advantage of making it available over the counter as opposed to by prescription only, is
that it would give a larger number of women faster and more access to it. Fortunately, for the women
of America, the FDA has recommended making the morning after pill available over the counter in the
United States as it is in other

Dynamical Systems Theory
In addition to using various information to provide augmented information about performance during
competition and practice, a significant task for sport performance analysts is to identify and measure
key performance variables that are statistically associated with successful sports performance
outcomes. This unfortunately promotes rudimentary understanding of sports performance and
provides little information about the underlying behaviors that produce these outcomes (McGarry,
2009). In recognition of this issue, the constraints based framework was outlined to serve as an
alternative process oriented approach to sports performance analysis (Glazier, 2010). To reiterate the
purpose of this literature review, the dynamical systems theory explains ... Show more content on

From this new perspective, variability of performance has been viewed as more functional, since a
consistent outcome can be achieved by a different patterns of joint relations owing to the dynamics of
the joint biomechanical degrees of freedom (DOF). A feature of a chaotic system, like that of a high
speed game in which ACL injuries occur, is that deterministic processes can drive fluctuations in
system and motor output that might seem random. Noise may have a positive role in preventing a
system from becoming too stable in complex environments so that functional movement solutions
may be found during exploratory behavior of athletes during that specific time prior to injury in an
effort to prevent injury. The fundamental problem for movement systems is the process of mastering
the redundant degrees of freedom. Degrees of freedom, coined by Nikolai Bernstein, refers to the
biomechanical DOF that exceed the minimum number required to successfully accomplish any given
motor task (Vereijken et al. 1992). In other words, they are the number of independent coordinates
required to uniquely describe the configuration of a system, providing flexibility and security in
adapting to changing environmental conditions. As our motor system develops, humans rigidly and

Fittingly for an organization that once relied largely on grass roots support, the Make A Wish

According to researcher Lindner (1998), motivated employees are needed in our rapidly changing
workplaces to aid in the survival of organizations. Not only is it important to meet the needs of the
consumer, it is equally important that to make sure that associates are taken care of and remain
motivated. For this reason, Gibson, Ivancevich, Donnelly and Konopaske (2012) states much of
management s time is spent addressing the motivation of their employees (p. 125). According to the
Encyclopedia of Small Business (2007), employee motivation is the level of energy, commitment, and
creativity employees bring to their jobs; the inner force that drives individuals to accomplish personal
and organizational goals (Lindner, 1988). Despite its obvious importance, employee motivation can be
an elusive quest for managers due to the multiplicity of incentives that can influence employees to do
their best work. The reality is that every employee has different ways to become motivated and the
knowledge of how to motivate them is key to organizational success. It is imperative that employers
get to know the personal needs and wants of their employees in order to establish tactics in which to
motivate each of them. Once achieved, managers are in a better position to encourage and reward
employees to behave in effective ways (Gibson et al, 2012, p.

Humor. Mockery. Relationship Goals. Can you consider these three things in a story about slavery?
Slavery is typically a sensitive and serious topic. In Charles W. Chesnutt s short story, The Passing of
Grandison and Quentin Tarantino s film, Django Unchained , these three components were combined
for entertainment purposes. In this essay, I will implement the comparison that both the short story and
film shows with the three component of humor, mockery and the relationship goal of a slave. The
Passing of Grandison was humorous in many ways. The humor started the Colonel s son, Dick Owens,
trying to win a girl s heart by doing something kind by freeing a slave by taking him to Canada.
Chesnutt used humor by exposing the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this story, Chesnutt changes the reader s initial perception of the characters, which was humorous.
Such as, even though Charity somewhat persuades Dick Owens to proceed in losing his father s slave,
she never believe that he would actually succeed. Dick returns home, and Charity Lomax hilariously
marries him, as she was mildly impressed her with his act. In the movie, Django Unchained, Taratino
humor comes in condemning the importance of slavery, which he makes fun of events and groups of
people that existed during the time of slavery. In the movie, there is a white German bounty hunter
named Dr. Schultz seeks out a slave named Django and buys him because he needed him to find some
men he is looking for. What so hilarious about this was that Dr. Schultz could have used anybody
beside a slave that was on the same plantation with the men that Django might have known, he was
not even certain that Django knew of these men he was looking for. Also, in the movie, Taratino made
the scene with Django changing wardrobe to be a hilarious part of the movie. You can say that Django
went from rags to riches, after Django s freedom Dr. Schultz offers to buy him a new suit whatever he
wanted. Django selects a blue two piece with lace cravat and knickerbockers, he assumes that s what
gentlemen (a free slave) would wear, It was funny seeing Django walk in his new wardrobe because

Ambiguity and Understanding of Chaucer s Troilus and Criseyde
One of the aspects of Chaucer s Troilus and Criseyde that seemed most confusing at first was the
apparent ambiguity or complete lack of motivation that the author provides for the main characters.
Chaucer provides little explanation for why his major characters act the way that they do; when he
does, his explanations are often ambiguous or contradictory. Pandarus is an excellent example of a
character whose motives are ambiguous. The only motives clearly attributable to him based on the
poem s text seem to be the friendship and affection he and Troilus have for each other, which is
supported by the narrator s claim that Pandarus ... [was] desirous to serve his ... Show more content on

In part, this confusion is also due to the fact that the narrator who supplies information to the reader is
himself a character, a fictional historian poet who quotes other fictional sources, such as myn auctor
called Lollius. (1.394) Although it may not be immediately obvious that Chaucer s narrator is not
identical with Chaucer himself, it seems to be apparent from Chaucer s portrayal of the narrator in the
story. For instance, the narrator claims he will translate naught only in the sentence ... but pleinly, save
oure tonges difference ... in al, that Troilus / Seyde in his song. (1.393 397) Of course, an exact, word
for word report translated into another language is no longer an exact, word for word report, a logical
fact of which Chaucer was doubtless aware, even if his fictional narrator was not. The fact that the
narrator is merely another character is problematic because the narrator and he information he
provides are not completely reliable. He makes questionable assertions about character motives and
departs from the action of the story to make unexpected digressions. For instance, Chaucer s narrator
makes a defense, in lines 2.666 686, against an accusation against Criseyde that is unlikely to occur to
the reader: that she lightly loved Troilus. (2.668)

The Course Pack Provided For The Native American Philosophy
The Course Pack provided for the Native American Philosophy contained nine articles combined to
demonstrate the huge philosophical gap of ideologies between Canada and the Aboriginal people. A
couple articles comment how Canada in the past has attempted to discriminate, assimilate and destroy
the aboriginal people and when that did not work, their cultures and assimilate them into European
Canada ways. Evidently this has not worked. The course pack talks about the differences of ideologies
being because of different languages, assumptions, and cultural views. In order to narrow the gap we
need to understand these differences on both sides to a greater extent.
Beliefs and culture were vastly different between Canada and the Aboriginals which lead to certain
actions made by the government. For example the First Nations believe in elders educating their
children through stories and the children learning through experiences. Canadians did not recognize
this form of teaching and so assumed they did not have any education in place. The same thing
happened with religion and law and the Canadians thought they would be helping the First Nations but
in reality all they caused was confusion and a divide between two cultures as a result of their
ignorance to understand any view other than their own. This issue rose again with the creation of
treaties with the Crown, the Crown believing that they owned the land. The Aboriginal people never
understood this as they don t believe someone

Essay on Critical Circumstances of the Vietnam War
CRITICAL CIRCUMSTANCES OF THE VIETNAM WAR
The Vietnam War was a cold war that spanned from 1956 to the fall of Saigon on April 30th 1975. It
can be seen that the end result of the Vietnam War tainted America s image through its failure to
demolish the Vietnamese Communist Government . It should be noted that many years before
America was directly involved with the war, Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos were under French colonial
rule where the Việt Minh (the communist nationalist independence coalition) spent many years
fighting for freedom from the French. In 1959 the Geneva Conference permitted the foremost powers
to come to an agreement on Indochina which would temporarily divide Vietnam at the 17th parallel.

VIETNAMESE INSIGHTS AND PERSPECTIVES During the Vietnam War the Northern part of
Vietnam was controlled by the Việt Minh while also being supported by communist China and Russia.
The Novel, The Sorrow of War: A Novel of North Vietnam, written by Bao Ninh, does not heavily

lived through war, who happens to be fighting for the North s cause. Kien, the main character,
attempts to comfort both his personal and national losses through recounting experiences by compiling

the idea of people who fight in the war and people who become affected by the war both share a heavy
burden of trauma and suffering. As the story unfolds, Kien recalls his position as a platoon
commander responsible for collecting corpses, but then turns in for the night on a hammock on a
transport truck very close to the edges of The Jungle of Screaming Souls. Being a survivor of many
gruesome battles within this jungle, Kien suddenly begins to suffer from vivid flashbacks of his time

Monosaccharides, disaccharides, or polysaccharide. The purpose for known carbohydrates is to know
how to determine which sugar is either a monosaccharide, disaccharide, or polysaccharide by
combining the mixture with either benedict or iodine solution. The purpose for unknown substances is
to test different products to determine which kind of carbohydrates they contain. The experimental
data shows that after testing everyday foods, after soaking the food in water and adding benedict
solution and iodine solution data shows how the product reacted. If there was a change after adding
benedict solution for 5 minutes in the water bath then the food was made up of monosaccharides. If
there was an immediate, obvious change in the iodine, then the product was made of polysaccharide.
If nothing changed with either than the product had disaccharides. If there were multiple changes then
the product had a good mix of monosaccharides and polysaccharides. The result of this lab were that
monosaccharide reacts with benedict. Polysaccharide react with iodine. Lastly disaccharide reacted
with neither. Monosaccharide react with benedict because it turns orange when heated. Polysaccharide

Alabama Civil War
Journal Article Review #1 McCollum, C.
THE NEGRO IN ALABAMA DURING THE CIVIL WAR The hardships faced by the slaves during
and immediately following the Civil War were relatively the same as they had been prior to the war.
During the war, the only thing that changed for some was their Masters . The Governor of Alabama,
by an act of 1861, was authorized to accept the services of slaves offered by certain slaveholders and
in October the following year he was empowered to impress slaves between the ages of 18 and 45 to
use as laborers, essentially making the state their masters. Amendments to the afore mentioned act in
1864 enabled the sheriff to enforce this act. The slaves were used for building defenses in the state as
well as to take the place of whites who were enlisted and fighting the war. Some slaves accompanied
their owners into battle and a few free blacks served as substitutes for whites. By 1865, the
confederacy had decided to enlist slaves but the war ended before this plan could carried out. In 1863,
the Union Army in Alabama, employed the first Negro troops to be used mainly for fatigue duty but
they were used as line soldiers in a few minor battles. From January to October 1864, James T. Ayres a
freeman from Illinois served as the recruiter in north Alabama. While here Ayres learned just how

Who Is Ed Wuncler s Greed
Ed Wuncler s greed takes over his personality so much. Ed Wuncler is portrayed as a fat white guy in

Ed Wuncler believes that healthy food attracts the wrong crowd and that he needs to be thinking

Not Just A Love Story
Not just a love story meant for children, the Pixar movie Wall e it is a vision of the hard reality this
world will face one day. A writer from the New York Times, A.O. Scott commented, it is, undoubtedly,
an earnest (though far from simplistic) ecological parable. Showing that there is more than just the
love story between Wall e and Eva that should be focused on when watching the movie. Just as in life,
there are far more important things that needed to be focused on throughout everyday life. In the
Merriam Webster dictionary, they define parable as, a short story that teaches a moral or spiritual
lesson . The movie, Wall e, portrays the consumer behavior and focuses on the attention of humans to
not focus on the problems at hand and to turn away from what is actually going on. In the movie, the
ecological parable is the story showing the link among the organisms and the environment. The Pixar
movie Wall e is deserving of the definition of an earnest ecological parable, through generational
entitlement, consumerism, and lack of sustainability. With the world changing, and generations

Literature is a mutable thing. Many have sought, often in vain and to great dissatisfaction, to contain it
and define its true nature. What s more, it seems that with each generation this task becomes
increasing difficult as words find new mediums across which to be expressed and heard. Conventional
definitions of literature, in turn, seem to be of increasingly less use as the words multiply around us.
The most successful definitions, under these circumstances, are those which seek not to assess the
nature of literature, which is ever changing, but its function in human society, which has remained
relatively unchanged over the annals of time. I would assert that the function of literature, beyond the

The world of The Witcher 3 is not wholly unlike our own. Women, particularly in marginalized
segments of society, struggle to assert their own worth and determine their own destinies in a world in
which men hold virtually all major positions of power. In The Witcher 3, this manifests itself in many
ways. One way is in the ubiquitous prostitutes of Novigrad, through whom the writers challenge
players to assess their own beliefs about sex work. Opportunities arise throughout the game to either
help affirm their humanity and defend them against male abuse and violence, or partake in their
services and leave them to their fates as objects of male desire. Given the ineptitude of many of their
world s male leaders, there are also many women from the upper segments of society who seek to
define not only their own fates, but those of their entire nation. Upon traveling to the Skellige Isles, an
archipelago off the western coast of the Northern Kingdoms, players find themselves interrupting a

What Are The Pros And Cons Of Gun Control
The United States has 88.8 guns per 100 people, or about 270,000,000 guns, which is the highest total
and per capital number in the world. 22% of Americans own one or more guns (35% of men and 12%
of women). America s pervasive gun culture stems in part from its colonial history, revolutionary
roots, frontier expansion, and the Second Amendment, which states: A well regulated militia, being
necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be
infringed. Proponents of more gun control laws state that the Second Amendment was intended for
militias; that gun violence would be reduced; that gun restrictions have always existed; and that a
majority of Americans, including gun owners, support new gun restrictions. Pros:High capacity
magazines should be banned because they too often turn murder into mass murder. A Mother Jones
investigation found that high capacity magazines were used in at least 50% of the 62 mass shootings
between 1982 and 2012. [7] When high capacity magazines were used in mass shootings, the death
rate rose 63% and the injury rate rose 156%. David H. Chipman, Senior Vice President of Public
Safety for Shot spotter and former Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF)
agent, stated that a high capacity magazine turns a killer into a killing machine. Some gang members
use high capacity magazines, such as 30 rounds or even 90 rounds, to compensate for lack of accuracy
and maximize

I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings Research Paper
The most important lesson that I learned this year was about self acceptance, more specifically
accepting myself for who I am and not being ashamed of my cultural background. The main two texts
that I felt expressed this lesson the most was the autobiography I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings
written by Maya Angelou and the graphic novel American Born Chinese written by Gene Luen Yang.
In I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, Angelou describes her life as she goes through a life changing
events that change her point of view about herself and her community. One of the most transformative
event that happened in her life would be her middle school graduation. When the graduation speaker,
Henry Reed gave everyone in her school hope, after the previous ... Show more content on

After this momentous event, Maya thought We were on top again...We survived. The depths had been
icy, but now a bright sun spoke to our souls...I was a proud member of the wonderful, beautiful Negro
race. (Angelou, 184) After this moment, Maya felt as if her perspective of the world had changed, as
well as mine. When she says We were on top again she felt the proudest she s ever been of her
community. At this point in the book, I felt very proud of my cultural background and not ashamed to
be Asian. When Angelou starts to be proud and accepting because of how Henry Reed s way with
words inspired her, as well as her entire graduating class and the entire Black community, she starts to
grow up and mature throughout the rest of the book. That s how I felt after reading and learning this
lesson for myself. Another book that I learned this lesson from was from one of the first books that we
read in this class, American Born Chinese. In American Born Chinese, the main character Jin Wang is
bullied by his classmates and even his teachers, which causes him to internalize many stereotypes
about himself and his

Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Essay
Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis; an icon of United States culture, and political history, defined by
impeccable style as well the actions she took to renovate the role and responsibilities of First Lady in
United States. As such, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis established her role as the most memorable First
Lady in United States history as she completed John F. Kennedy s legacy by creating the fantasy of
the Camelot administration through her work during the days following her husband s assassination.
Without the work of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, the Kennedy administration would not be
remembered today with such vibrancy and as a cornerstone to United States history.

On November 25th, 1963, the United States and world mourned the death of President John F.
Kennedy. At Jackie s insistence, the funeral was patterned after that of another United States president
who fell due an assassin, Abraham Lincoln. Jackie insisted her husband s casket was carried don the
same carriage that had carried the casket of Abraham Lincoln. Behind the carriage walked Jackie, a
model of self control and dignity. As put by Ted Kennedy, she proved to be a pillar of strength [and] it
helped all the rest of us carry on . Jackie s calm and dignified demeanor throughout won her
widespread respect. She brought great self possession and sadness to the affair as she stood at the
graveside, like a marble statue with a dark veil and two children holding her hands. Jackie was clever
in the fact that she knew that these images, went around the world. Moreover, she did a fantastic job of
keeping the dignity of the presidency going. On British reporter stating, that Jackie Kennedy gave the
American people something they d never had before: majesty . It was through these images and
funeral service that Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis completed the legacy of the Camelot administration.
While in office Kennedy wasn t the smartest of presidents, his administration will continue to live in
the United States public for centuries to come. Through her dignity and self determination, Jackie won
the title of the most memorable First Lady in American history. Moreover, she would continue her
service to her husband through personally responding to some of the pieces of mail she received
following the funeral. In the Spring of 194, Jackie plunged herself into yet another project, the
planning of the John F. Kennedy Library. She became involved in

Skinner’s Use of Metaphor in Explaining the Behaviorism...
Skinner s Use of Metaphor in Explaining the Behaviorism of Walden Two B. F. Skinner
revolutionized the field of psychology through his numerous writings on behaviorism. However, he
began his collegiate life as an English major, and his education in literary techniques and devices
clearly shows through in the manipulation of metaphor in his famous novel Walden Two. Although
Skinner rarely diverges from the incessant description of behavioral engineering through his
mouthpiece in the novel, Frazier, he occasionally digresses from the theory and application of
scientific experimentation to the literary elements that are essential to any novel. One of these
elements, the metaphor of the sheep that appears at the beginning and ... Show more content on

The novel, an exposition of behaviorist thought, is almost a Socratic dialogue with Frazier acting as
the famed questioning philosopher and Castle as the ignorant pupil, through which the superiority of
behavioral engineering is eventually proven. Although Castle leaves disenchanted with what he
considers a fascist ideology, Burris eventually succumbs to the appeal of Walden Two and participates
in Frazier s experiment of humanity. Although these crucial ideas might overshadow the literary merits
of Walden Two, Skinner the English major understood the importance of every minor detail and
digression from the main narrative. The sheep, which serve no purpose to the plot of the story,
illustrate Skinner s behaviorist ideas through metaphor. The sheep benefit the community in a
superficial sense by acting as a more efficient lawnmower, requiring only the work of moving a
portable fence. Although once electrocuted, the fence is now just string, and the only other restraint is
a sheepdog, the Bishop, which guards the sheep watchfully. This idea works on a deeper level to help
Skinner relate his scientific ideas to literary ones. As Frazier expounds upon the

Teleological Arguments Essay
The argument from design or the teleological argument points to the existence of order and direction
in nature to a kind of purpose. The argument essentially proves the existence of God. A designer must
exist because the universe and living things exhibit marks of design in their complexity. Design type
arguments are unproblematic when based upon things nature plainly could not or would not produce,
like human artifacts. If designs entail a designer, and the universe shows marks of design, then the
universe was created. An intelligent designer is an entity that the intelligent design movement argues
had some role in the development of life. Essentially, the claim being made is that certain aspects of
the universe are too perfectly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, if one stumbled across a stone it would be difficult for one to explain how it got there.
Secondly, just as the complexity of a watch imply intelligent design, Paley suggested that the universe
too implies intelligent design. The eye is usually used as an example of design. I know no better
method of introducing so large a subject, than that of comparing a single thing with a single thing; an
eye, for example, with a telescope (Klemke 32). Paley stated that both of these are instruments and
bear resemblance to one another. In order for the eye or telescope to work, there must be many
dissimilar convergent parts that individually have no role but have value only in a designed whole.
Therefore, it is only in the joined unity that they exhibit their total function.
David Hume counter argued against the argument from design. He noted that although we know that
man made structures are designed because we have seen them being built, the analogy does not hold
for non man made structures. A theist must be able to show that natural objects in the universe were
manufactured in some way. For example, trees, humans and rocks. The analogy then requires the
existence of an intelligent designer. Hume criticizes the claim that artifacts and the universe are
similar in the right ways because we have only had experience with just one universe. He rejects the
analogy between the material universe and a human

The Three Gorges Of The Yangtze River In China
At first I ll have a brief introduction of Yangtze River, the Yangtze River, the biggest river in China,
the third longest in the World, starts with the Tuotuo River at the Roof of the World Qinghai Tibet
Plateau, takes in countless rivers, and flows eastward across the interior of China. With an overall
length of more than 6,300 kilometers, the Yangtze River, next only to the Amazon and the Nile, is the
third biggest river in the world and is a cradle that breeds the ancient civilization of the Chinese
nation.
When the Yangtze River reaches the eastern Sichuan Basin in southwest China, it cuts through the
Wushan Mountain. Here the river course suddenly narrows and the waters become turbulent. Sheer
cliffs and steep mountains rise on either side, creating one of nature s most fantastic sights. The Three
Gorges Qutang, Wuxia and Xiling start just after Fengjie and end near Yichang, stretch about 200
kilometers. The Gorges vary from 300metres at their widest to less than 100 meters at their narrowest.
Qutang Gorge is the smallest and shortest Gorge, but grandest of the three. The Yangtze River, mighty
and rapid here is suddenly contained like a thousand seas poured into one cup , as the Song Dynasty
poet SU Tungpo described the spectacle. High on the both bank, at a place called Bellows Gorge, are a
series of crevices. This area is said to have been the home of an ancient tribe whose custom was to
place the coffins of their crevices, some containing bronze swords,

Nuclear Weapons And The United States
Since the nineteen forties nuclear weapons have been used to help end, or have caused problems
between countries. The dangers of using nuclear weapons have increased over the many years since
they were first used. Either way, the fight over nuclear weapons have become more and more common
because of the new developments in science and technology. The use of nuclear weapons have been
used to threaten many different countries around the world which include the United States and many
more. Nuclear weapons have become an overall issue in the world today, yet the issue has been
ignored. Just recently this issue has been noticed, yet we still ignore the problems that have happened.
As the world of technology has become more educated new nuclear weapons have been created, but
they have not been tested or used. The United States should aggressively promote nuclear
disarmament because of reprocessing, exaggerations, and waste management. The United States
should aggressively promote nuclear disarmament because of reprocessing. According to an article
written by Union of Concerned Scientists in 2013, Moreover, commercial scale reprocessing facilities
handle so much of this material that it has proven impossible to keep track of it accurately in a timely
manner, making it feasible that the theft of enough plutonium to build several bombs could undetected

The Ideas And Implementation Of Cooperative Learning
This paper explores the ideas and implementation of cooperative learning, and how it can benefit the
classroom. It looks at different sources that show research on this teaching strategy and the benefits
that it could have on students social skills, academic success, and over all attitude towards school. It
also explains some different types of cooperative techniques that teachers can use in their classrooms.

History.
Lev Vygotsky, a Soviet psychologist created a theory which believes that humans need social
interaction for their cognitive development. Gallagher (1999) states Basically Vygotsky s theory
suggests that development depends on interaction with people and the tools that the culture provides to
help form their own view of the world . Another part of this theory is the Zone of Proximal
Development. The idea here is that a student will complete a task that they cannot do alone, with the
help of a more skilled peer, or even the guidance of an instructor. Throughout this process the child
will become more socialized and then in turn, this will improve their cognitive development
(Gallagher 1999).
The Benefits of Cooperative Learning. There are some subjects, where working in groups is practiced
more frequently than others. For example, many students are use to working in groups on a science
experiment, or working as a team in physical education courses, or maybe even for a project in social
studies. However, working with their peers

Personal Narrative-After High School
Dinner was ready. The food smelled had a strong scent of chicken, which was funny since it was fish
not chicken, but Albert couldn t eat. He raced off to his room with a platter of food. Albert is just too
busy, and he had work to do. He looked down at the new set of problems he had to finish. For some
positive integers P, there is a quadrilateral ABCD with positive integer side lengths, perimeter P, right
angles at B and C, AB = 2 and CD = AD. How many different values of P 2015 are possible? The
answer was obvious, 31. Even if AMC10 allows you to have 75 minutes, he could get a perfect score
in 45 minutes, which always led to a very boring 30 minutes. He quickly finished his practice

Please welcome Jeremy to our school Mrs. Hicupo announced. Welcome to Mid L. school for gifted

instructions on how to read. Even if there was a new kid, he had better stuff to do. We also need to
figure out your partners for your project before next week ok? Mrs. Hicupo reminded. Then the bell
rang. It was Thursday, so there were after school sports, and bullies. The bullies. The ones that pushed
and shoved innocent kids around, dominating the halls and buses. Albert attempted to get to his locker
quickly, but kids from everywhere started to pour into the hallways like water. Stampeding into the
halls and running faster than a gazelle. He had to go plan B. That never worked. After getting to his
locker and packing his stuff, he rushed past the talking crowds to the cafeteria, trying to exit through
the small back door, which the bullies never found. Unfortunately, he met the Jimok group before even
reaching the cafeteria. Ha! Kycky said, shoving him to the ground, you re not going anywhere! The
kids laughed. They were just trying to show that they rule. Jimok kicked him, but Albert quickly got
up. Get away from him, what did he do to you! a new voice shouted. The bullies looked back, it was
Jeremy, and Mr. Brickson. The bullies ran away quickly, keeping their head down, trying not to be
seen. They were all cowards, they always ran away from all the adults. Thanks Albert said, then he

Wto As An International Institution
However, WTO as an international institution is still a good idea. WTO seems to be important for
developing economies in some reasons. First, as the weaker part in organizations, developing
countries benefited from unilateral trade actions of United States and Europe. Second, WTO help
developing countries to advance agriculture liberalization. As we know that agriculture is the most
important thing for developing economies to raise its economy and reach more gain from trade. Third,
the new open sectors in specific sectors like tourism also help developing countries to create more job
opportunities. This means that developing countries still gain from joining the WTO as long as they
perceived differentiated treatment to implement new trade disciplines due to their level of
development.
If there was no WTO, disputes or even cold war would be come up. As we cannot imagine the world
without WTO or rules of free trade, I suggest that global economy is much worse than todays. The
hopes from international trade is provision of such unavailable products in home economies. To fix
this matters, taking consideration on reforming the WTO is a must, the problems lies on WTO
frameworks, its role/mandates also its power.
 CRITICAL ANALYSIS OF DOHA ROUND BETWEEN DEVELOPED COUNTRIES AND
DEVELOPING COUNTRIES
The credibility of multilateral trading system seem to be asked if WTO failed to provide a

However, analysts expect growing consumer incomes, the late 2012 release of the Wii U and the 2013
release of Xbox One and PlayStation 4 to lead to a 4.3% revenue growth in 2014. Consumers spent
$1.1 billion on new physical games and consoles at U.S. retailers during the five week period from
Aug. 31 to Oct. 4, 2014, according to industry tracking firm The NPD Group. That is up 2 percent
from $1.08 billion over a similar period in 2013. The year long growth of new console sales is making
up for lackluster video game sales. Future growth expectations for the Video Games industry have
been significantly moderated, as the picture of the market for gaming on mobile platforms becomes
clearer. Since mobile games are sold at much lower prices compared to traditional console and PC
games, their rise may foretell a slowdown of the video game market in the United States. While the
recent launch of the next generation video game consoles is expected to rekindle interest in the more
expensive console gaming market, the rise of low cost, low margin mobile gaming market may weigh
on the overall gaming market. Consequently, this is expected to pull revenue downward as consumers
pay less per hour for gaming entertainment. Revenue is expected to reach $47.4 billion in 2019 as a
result of the expanding population and an increased percentage of Americans

While science teaches us about some of the more physical implications of biotechnology on the individual, science fiction, and subsequently Gattaca, also teaches us the implications of biotechnology on society as a whole. Through the use of various cinematic techniques, Gattaca teaches us the other half of the implications of biotechnology that are often obscured amidst the evident implications on an individual s health and wellbeing prejudice. Gattaca explores the social implications of biotechnology affecting the life of a young man named Vincent who has dreams of space travel that are thwarted due to his genetic inferiority. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The technology used by the Freemans to conceive Anton is similar to modern in vitro fertilisation (IVF). Furthermore, one contemporary use of biotechnology is preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD), which consists of extracting eight cells from an IVF generated three day old embryo at risk of genetic disorder, and analysing its DNA to locate genes correlated with genetic defects. This technology proves beneficial as only embryos free of genetic defects are implanted into the uterus. Moreover, PGD enables parents to choose their children s characteristics, such as gender, and, in the near future, other desirable traits like intelligence, akin to what occurs in Gattaca, which presents its devastating repercussions. PGD can be utilised to conceive a child with the purpose of saving another. Namely, book turned film My Sister s Keeper documents the life of a girl who was conceived purely to keep her sister, suffering from leukaemia, alive, by undergoing countless medical procedures. This carries with it its own ethical dilemmas, including the psychological development of a child who knows they were only born to save their sibling s life and the possibility of treatment failing and ensuing disappointment. Both the technologies used in Gattaca to create genetically perfect babies and in modern society have the potential to facilitate widespread discrimination. The prejudice caused by this biotechnology in Gattaca is made apparent by Vincent s voiceover narration. During a flashback to the past, Vincent narrates his experiences when he was a cleaner in Gattaca, reproachfully saying, And now we have discrimination down to a science , warning us about the potential implications of similar biotechnology on today s society. These consequences are often imperceptible to the public, and Gattaca brings them to light, prompting questioning ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Since the earliest days of its employment in the colonial era until today, citizens have struggles with the issue of when and under what circumstances the taking of a human life by the state can be morally or legally justified. For some opponents of the death penalty, the simple answer is that the taking of a human life is always morally and ethically wrong, even when conducted under the auspices of state authority as a legal punishment. The utilitarian theory would view the death penalty as moral because they look at what would make most the people happy. Utilitarianism was founded by John Stuart Mills and Jeremy Bentham. By killing the person who took another person s live, the victim s family would be pleased that justice was served, and the rest of society would be happy knowing that the murderer would never be able to escape and harm them. We show how competitive dynamics have evolved in the Mexican retail industry following the entrance and dominance of Wal Mart. From the point at which Mexico joined the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade in 1986 through the implementation of the North American Free Trade Agreement with Canada and the United States in 1994 and a broad range of similar agreements with other countries, Mexican firms became increasingly exposed to competitive pressures from foreign firms in the form of imported products as well as foreign owned operations in Mexico. The overpopulation of these animals and the fact that they have no homes leads to about 40% of them being euthanized (ASPCA). This is a global issue, but the root of it can be found within the local community at The Humane Society of the Ohio Valley. The director of this animal shelter, Kelly Goedel, says that the cause of animal homelessness is primarily the lack of spaying and neutering along with the lack of commitment that pet owners have to their companion (Goedel). Spaying and neutering is sometimes avoided by pet owners because it is an extra expense or they may feel as if it is unnecessary. This challenge leads to an excess in animal populations without there necessarily being and increase in homes for these animals. The challenge of overcoming pet overpopulation becomes even more difficult because of a lack of funding. According to the Humane Society of the Ohio Valley, only about 20 percent of their funding comes from local government (Goedel). Therefore, they are very reliant on donors and community funds to help finance their organization. The funding issue circles back to complicate the process of getting homeless pets spayed and neutered to attempt to solve the root cause of animal overpopulation. The basis of our project was to raise funds and awareness for the HSOV. We wanted to reach out to as many people as we could so we can spread the issue of the shelters. ... • 22. The Importance Of Intolerance Of Puritans In The Crucible As famously written by George Orwell, Big Brother is watching you. In the eyes of the Puritans, God is the Big Brother watching over them in their mission to become the city upon a hill. They devote themselves to pleasing Him, eventually becoming obsessed with their status as the paragon of a Puritan society. However, as their ideologies become increasingly restrictive, their intolerance of misconduct also consolidates, and their utmost faithfulness ultimately leads to their untimely destruction. While John Winthrop, the governor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony, delivers A Model of Christian Charity, laying out the societal expectations of Puritans, Jonathan Edwards in Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God aggressively warns the Puritans of the wrath of God, and Arthur Miller denounces their flawed ideology and the paranoia it induces in The Crucible. In 1692, the small, quaint town of Salem Village is in absolute mayhem when a group of young girls claim there is evil amongst them. Due to their intolerance of imperfections in their community, Puritans mark the beginning of the Salem witch trials and their doom. Despite their original objective to create a utopian society based purely on faithfulness, the Puritans unquenchable thirst for protecting their reputation creates a domino effect of events provoking their downfall. The Puritans need for perfection due to their God given responsibility to maintain their status as the city upon a hill is inherently dangerous to their society. Rather than confront and fix imperfections in their community, the authorities dangerously label them as evil, which becomes a corrupt case of terrible victory of prejudice over reason (Shapiro). Their incessant desire to be a flawless, united group of quintessential Puritans becomes a threat to their existence as they attempt to prevent any kind of disunity that might open it to destruction by material or ideological enemies, a tactic utilized by any fanatical group (Miller 5). It is imperative for citizens to have the same mindset and share the same ideologies, however, if an individual speaks against the accepted beliefs, he is believed to be a threat to society and therefore is alienated and exterminated, an ... The country was providing the workers with enough money to buy what they had produced. This bargain wanted to make sure that the pay of the workers coincided with their output (p51). It was during this time that mass production and mass consumption went hand in hand. This was also a time that brought the nation to more than halfway to perfect equality (p43). One might say that the term basic bargain was one greatly understood by Henry Ford. He was able to understand that those who work are also those who buy. Being able to contribute to the cycle of buying the goods and services that others produce, is the main reason Ford increased his assembly line workers pay to five dollars per eight hour day. This pill can be used during the first three days after unprotected sexual intercourse to prevent the fertilization of an egg or the attachment of a fertilized egg to a woman s uterus. The question is not necessarily in the ethical issue of the pill itself. The problem or question lies in the issue of the pill being sold with or without a prescription. Dynamical Systems Theory In addition to using various information to provide augmented information about performance during competition and practice, a significant task for sport performance analysts is to identify and measure key performance variables that are statistically associated with successful sports performance outcomes. This unfortunately promotes rudimentary understanding of sports performance and provides little information about the underlying behaviors that produce these outcomes (McGarry, 2009). In recognition of this issue, the constraints based framework was outlined to serve as an alternative process oriented approach to sports performance analysis (Glazier, 2010). From this new perspective, variability of performance has been viewed as more functional, since a consistent outcome can be achieved by a different patterns of joint relations owing to the dynamics of the joint biomechanical degrees of freedom (DOF). A feature of a chaotic system, like that of a high speed game in which ACL injuries occur, is that deterministic processes can drive fluctuations in system and motor output that might seem random. Noise may have a positive role in preventing a system from becoming too stable in complex environments so that functional movement solutions may be found during exploratory behavior of athletes during that specific time prior to injury in an effort to prevent injury. The fundamental problem for movement systems is the process of mastering the redundant degrees of freedom. Degrees of freedom, coined by Nikolai Bernstein, refers to the biomechanical DOF that exceed the minimum number required to successfully accomplish any given motor task (Vereijken et al. 1992). In other words, they are the number of independent coordinates required to uniquely describe the configuration of a system, providing flexibility and security in adapting to changing environmental conditions. Not only is it important to meet the needs of the consumer, it is equally important that to make sure that associates are taken care of and remain motivated. For this reason, Gibson, Ivancevich, Donnelly and Konopaske (2012) states much of management s time is spent addressing the motivation of their employees (p. 125). According to the Encyclopedia of Small Business (2007), employee motivation is the level of energy, commitment, and creativity employees bring to their jobs; the inner force that drives individuals to accomplish personal and organizational goals (Lindner, 1988). Despite its obvious importance, employee motivation can be an elusive quest for managers due to the multiplicity of incentives that can influence employees to do their best work. The reality is that every employee has different ways to become motivated and the knowledge of how to motivate them is key to organizational success. It is imperative that employers get to know the personal needs and wants of their employees in order to establish tactics in which to motivate each of them. Slavery is typically a sensitive and serious topic. In Charles W. In this essay, I will implement the comparison that both the short story and film shows with the three component of humor, mockery and the relationship goal of a slave. In the movie, Django Unchained, Taratino humor comes in condemning the importance of slavery, which he makes fun of events and groups of people that existed during the time of slavery. In the movie, there is a white German bounty hunter named Dr. Schultz seeks out a slave named Django and buys him because he needed him to find some men he is looking for. What so hilarious about this was that Dr. Schultz could have used anybody beside a slave that was on the same plantation with the men that Django might have known, he was not even certain that Django knew of these men he was looking for. Also, in the movie, Taratino made the scene with Django changing wardrobe to be a hilarious part of the movie. Ambiguity and Understanding of Chaucer s Troilus and Criseyde One of the aspects of Chaucer s Troilus and Criseyde that seemed most confusing at first was the apparent ambiguity or complete lack of motivation that the author provides for the main characters. Chaucer provides little explanation for why his major characters act the way that they do; when he does, his explanations are often ambiguous or contradictory. Pandarus is an excellent example of a character whose motives are ambiguous. The only motives clearly attributable to him based on the poem s text seem to be the friendship and affection he and Troilus have for each other, which is supported by the narrator s claim that Pandarus ... (2.219) In part, this confusion is also due to the fact that the narrator who supplies information to the reader is himself a character, a fictional historian poet who quotes other fictional sources, such as myn auctor called Lollius. (1.394) Although it may not be immediately obvious that Chaucer s narrator is not identical with Chaucer himself, it seems to be apparent from Chaucer s portrayal of the narrator in the story. For instance, the narrator claims he will translate naught only in the sentence ... but pleinly, save oure tonges difference ... in al, that Troilus / Seyde in his song. (1.393 397) Of course, an exact, word for word report translated into another language is no longer an exact, word for word report, a logical fact of which Chaucer was doubtless aware, even if his fictional narrator was not. The fact that the narrator is merely another character is problematic because the narrator and he information he provides are not completely reliable. He makes questionable assertions about character motives and departs from the action of the story to make unexpected digressions. For instance, Chaucer s narrator makes a defense, in lines 2.666 686, against an accusation against Criseyde that is unlikely to occur to the reader: that she lightly loved Troilus. Evidently this has not worked. The course pack talks about the differences of ideologies being because of different languages, assumptions, and cultural views. In order to narrow the gap we need to understand these differences on both sides to a greater extent. Beliefs and culture were vastly different between Canada and the Aboriginals which lead to certain actions made by the government. For example the First Nations believe in elders educating their children through stories and the children learning through experiences. Canadians did not recognize this form of teaching and so assumed they did not have any education in place. The same thing happened with religion and law and the Canadians thought they would be helping the First Nations but in reality all they caused was confusion and a divide between two cultures as a result of their ignorance to understand any view other than their own. THE NEGRO IN ALABAMA DURING THE CIVIL WAR The hardships faced by the slaves during and immediately following the Civil War were relatively the same as they had been prior to the war. During the war, the only thing that changed for some was their Masters . The Governor of Alabama, by an act of 1861, was authorized to accept the services of slaves offered by certain slaveholders and in October the following year he was empowered to impress slaves between the ages of 18 and 45 to use as laborers, essentially making the state their masters. Amendments to the afore mentioned act in 1864 enabled the sheriff to enforce this act. The slaves were used for building defenses in the state as well as to take the place of whites who were enlisted and fighting the war. Some slaves accompanied their owners into battle and a few free blacks served as substitutes for whites. By 1865, the confederacy had decided to enlist slaves but the war ended before this plan could carried out. In 1863, the Union Army in Alabama, employed the first Negro troops to be used mainly for fatigue duty but they were used as line soldiers in a few minor battles. Opportunities arise throughout the game to either help affirm their humanity and defend them against male abuse and violence, or partake in their services and leave them to their fates as objects of male desire. • 41. What Are The Pros And Cons Of Gun Control The United States has 88.8 guns per 100 people, or about 270,000,000 guns, which is the highest total and per capital number in the world. 22% of Americans own one or more guns (35% of men and 12% of women). America s pervasive gun culture stems in part from its colonial history, revolutionary roots, frontier expansion, and the Second Amendment, which states: A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. Proponents of more gun control laws state that the Second Amendment was intended for militias; that gun violence would be reduced; that gun restrictions have always existed; and that a majority of Americans, including gun owners, support new gun restrictions. Pros:High capacity magazines should be banned because they too often turn murder into mass murder. A Mother Jones investigation found that high capacity magazines were used in at least 50% of the 62 mass shootings between 1982 and 2012. [7] When high capacity magazines were used in mass shootings, the death rate rose 63% and the injury rate rose 156%. David H. Chipman, Senior Vice President of Public Safety for Shot spotter and former Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) agent, stated that a high capacity magazine turns a killer into a killing machine. Some gang members use high capacity magazines, such as 30 rounds or even 90 rounds, to compensate for lack of accuracy and maximize ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings Research Paper The most important lesson that I learned this year was about self acceptance, more specifically accepting myself for who I am and not being ashamed of my cultural background. The main two texts that I felt expressed this lesson the most was the autobiography I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings written by Maya Angelou and the graphic novel American Born Chinese written by Gene Luen Yang. In I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, Angelou describes her life as she goes through a life changing events that change her point of view about herself and her community. One of the most transformative event that happened in her life would be her middle school graduation. When the graduation speaker, Henry Reed gave everyone in her school hope, after the previous ... At this point in the book, I felt very proud of my cultural background and not ashamed to be Asian. When Angelou starts to be proud and accepting because of how Henry Reed s way with words inspired her, as well as her entire graduating class and the entire Black community, she starts to grow up and mature throughout the rest of the book. That s how I felt after reading and learning this lesson for myself. Another book that I learned this lesson from was from one of the first books that we read in this class, American Born Chinese. Skinner revolutionized the field of psychology through his numerous writings on behaviorism. However, he began his collegiate life as an English major, and his education in literary techniques and devices clearly shows through in the manipulation of metaphor in his famous novel Walden Two. Although Skinner rarely diverges from the incessant description of behavioral engineering through his mouthpiece in the novel, Frazier, he occasionally digresses from the theory and application of scientific experimentation to the literary elements that are essential to any novel. One of these elements, the metaphor of the sheep that appears at the beginning and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The novel, an exposition of behaviorist thought, is almost a Socratic dialogue with Frazier acting as the famed questioning philosopher and Castle as the ignorant pupil, through which the superiority of behavioral engineering is eventually proven. Although Castle leaves disenchanted with what he considers a fascist ideology, Burris eventually succumbs to the appeal of Walden Two and participates in Frazier s experiment of humanity. Although these crucial ideas might overshadow the literary merits of Walden Two, Skinner the English major understood the importance of every minor detail and digression from the main narrative. The sheep, which serve no purpose to the plot of the story, illustrate Skinner s behaviorist ideas through metaphor. The sheep benefit the community in a superficial sense by acting as a more efficient lawnmower, requiring only the work of moving a portable fence. Although once electrocuted, the fence is now just string, and the only other restraint is a sheepdog, the Bishop, which guards the sheep watchfully. This idea works on a deeper level to help Skinner relate his scientific ideas to literary ones. As Frazier expounds upon the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Teleological Arguments Essay The argument from design or the teleological argument points to the existence of order and direction in nature to a kind of purpose. The argument essentially proves the existence of God. A designer must exist because the universe and living things exhibit marks of design in their complexity. Design type arguments are unproblematic when based upon things nature plainly could not or would not produce, like human artifacts. If designs entail a designer, and the universe shows marks of design, then the universe was created. An intelligent designer is an entity that the intelligent design movement argues had some role in the development of life. Essentially, the claim being made is that certain aspects of the universe are too perfectly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, if one stumbled across a stone it would be difficult for one to explain how it got there. Secondly, just as the complexity of a watch imply intelligent design, Paley suggested that the universe too implies intelligent design. The eye is usually used as an example of design. I know no better method of introducing so large a subject, than that of comparing a single thing with a single thing; an eye, for example, with a telescope (Klemke 32). Paley stated that both of these are instruments and bear resemblance to one another. In order for the eye or telescope to work, there must be many dissimilar convergent parts that individually have no role but have value only in a designed whole. Therefore, it is only in the joined unity that they exhibit their total function. David Hume counter argued against the argument from design. He noted that although we know that man made structures are designed because we have seen them being built, the analogy does not hold for non man made structures. A theist must be able to show that natural objects in the universe were manufactured in some way. For example, trees, humans and rocks. The analogy then requires the existence of an intelligent designer. Hume criticizes the claim that artifacts and the universe are similar in the right ways because we have only had experience with just one universe. He rejects the analogy between the material universe and a human ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Three Gorges Of The Yangtze River In China At first I ll have a brief introduction of Yangtze River, the Yangtze River, the biggest river in China, the third longest in the World, starts with the Tuotuo River at the Roof of the World Qinghai Tibet Plateau, takes in countless rivers, and flows eastward across the interior of China. With an overall length of more than 6,300 kilometers, the Yangtze River, next only to the Amazon and the Nile, is the third biggest river in the world and is a cradle that breeds the ancient civilization of the Chinese nation. When the Yangtze River reaches the eastern Sichuan Basin in southwest China, it cuts through the Wushan Mountain. Here the river course suddenly narrows and the waters become turbulent. Sheer cliffs and steep mountains rise on either side, creating one of nature s most fantastic sights. The Three Gorges Qutang, Wuxia and Xiling start just after Fengjie and end near Yichang, stretch about 200 kilometers. The Gorges vary from 300metres at their widest to less than 100 meters at their narrowest. Qutang Gorge is the smallest and shortest Gorge, but grandest of the three. The Yangtze River, mighty and rapid here is suddenly contained like a thousand seas poured into one cup , as the Song Dynasty poet SU Tungpo described the spectacle. Lev Vygotsky, a Soviet psychologist created a theory which believes that humans need social interaction for their cognitive development. Gallagher (1999) states Basically Vygotsky s theory suggests that development depends on interaction with people and the tools that the culture provides to help form their own view of the world . Another part of this theory is the Zone of Proximal Development. The idea here is that a student will complete a task that they cannot do alone, with the help of a more skilled peer, or even the guidance of an instructor. Throughout this process the child will become more socialized and then in turn, this will improve their cognitive development (Gallagher 1999). The Benefits of Cooperative Learning. • 50. Wto As An International Institution However, WTO as an international institution is still a good idea. WTO seems to be important for developing economies in some reasons. First, as the weaker part in organizations, developing countries benefited from unilateral trade actions of United States and Europe. Second, WTO help developing countries to advance agriculture liberalization. As we know that agriculture is the most important thing for developing economies to raise its economy and reach more gain from trade. Third, the new open sectors in specific sectors like tourism also help developing countries to create more job opportunities. This means that developing countries still gain from joining the WTO as long as they perceived differentiated treatment to implement new trade disciplines due to their level of development. If there was no WTO, disputes or even cold war would be come up. As we cannot imagine the world without WTO or rules of free trade, I suggest that global economy is much worse than todays. The hopes from international trade is provision of such unavailable products in home economies. To fix this matters, taking consideration on reforming the WTO is a must, the problems lies on WTO frameworks, its role/mandates also its power.  CRITICAL ANALYSIS OF DOHA ROUND BETWEEN DEVELOPED COUNTRIES AND DEVELOPING COUNTRIES The credibility of multilateral trading system seem to be asked if WTO failed to provide a comprehensive negotiations to deal with across issues and sector (Schott, 2000).
