CRITERIA TO DECIDE WHETHER SOMETHING
IS ALIVE :-
THE MOST IMPORTANT
CRITERIA TO DECIDE WHETHER
SOMETHING IS ALIVE IS
MOVEMENT.ALL LIVING THINGS
MOVE WITHOUT ANY EXTERNAL
HELP.
LIFE PROCESSES :-
LIFE PROCSSES ARE THE BASIC PROCESSES
IN THE LIVING ORGANISM. WHICH ARE
NECESSARY FOR MAINTAING THEIR LIFE .
 1) NUTRITION:-
 Nutrition is the
process of
taking food by
an organism and
its utilization by
the body for life
processes.
2) RESPIRATION :-
 Respiration is the process
by which food is burnt in
the cells of the body with
the help of oxygen to
release energy.
3 ) TRANSPORTATION :-
Transportation is the process
by which food , oxygen ,
water , waste products are
carried from one part of the
body to other parts.
4 ) EXCRETION :-
 Excretion is the
process by which
waste products are
removed from the
body.
NUTRITION
Nutrition is the process of taking food by organism and its
utilization by the body to build the body , for growth, for
energy .
MODES OF NUTRITION :- There are two main modes of nutrition.
a)Heterotrophic Nutrition
b)Autotrophic Nutrition
AUTOTROPHIC NUTRITION
Autotrophic nutrition is the nutrition in which
organism prepare their own food from simple
inorganic substance like carbon dioxide and
water in the presence of sunlight and
chlorophyll.
HETEROTROPHIC NUTRITION
Heterotrophic nutrition in which organism get their
food directly or indirectly from plants. There are
three types of heterotrophic nutrition :-
1.Saprophytic
2.Parasitic
3.Holozoic
SAPROPHYTIC NUTRITION
Saprophytic is the
nutrition in which
organism get their food
from dead or decaying
matter. They break
down the food material
outside their body and
then absorbs it.
Examples :- Mushrooms ,
yeast ect .
PARASITIC
NUTRITION
 Parasitic nutrition
is nutrition in
which organism get
their food from
living organism
(host) without
killing them .
HOLOZOIC
NUTRITION
Holozoic nutrition is
nutrition in which
organisms take food
directly and then
digest it and absorb it.
Example :- Amoeba,
paramecium .
NUTRITION IN
PLANTS
PHOTOSYNTHESIS:- is the process by which plants
produce their own food in the presence of
sunlight , water and carbon-dioxide .
STOMAT
A
Stomata are tiny pores
present in the leave
through which
exchange of gases
takes place. Each
stoma has pair of guard
cells which controls the
opening and closing of
stomatal pore .
NUTRITION IN ANIMALS
Nutrition in Amoeba :-
Amoeba is unicellular animal living in water. It takes
in food by finger like projections called
pseudopodia and forms a food vacuole. Inside the
food vacuole the food Is digested and absorbed.
The undigested food is then sent out through the
surface of the cells.
NUTRITION IN AMOEBA
NUTRITION IN HUMAN
Nutrition in human beings takes place in
the digestive system. It consists of the
alimentary canal and glands which
produce enzymes which breaks down
food into smaller molecules. The main
organs of digestive system are mouth,
oesophagus, stomach,small intestine,
large intestine, and anus.
NUTRITION IN HUMAN BEINGS
RESPIRATION
Respiration is the process by which food is
burnt into smaller cells of the body with the
help of oxygen to release energy. It takes
place in mitochondria of cells. The energy
released are used to make ATP molecules
from ADP molecules and inorganic
phosphate. Energy is stored in the cells in the
form of ATP molecules . When the cells need
energy , ATP is broken down in the presence
of water to form ADP and energy is released.
BREAK DOWN OF GLUCOSE BY VARIOUS
PATHWAYS :-
RESPIRATION IN HUMAN BEINGS
The main organs of
the respiratory system
are nostrils, nasal
cavity , pharynx,
larynx , trachea,
bronchi, bronchiole,
lungs and diaphragm
TRANSPORTATION
Transportation in human beings :-
The main transport system in human
beings is circulatory system . It consists of
blood , arteries , veins capillaries and
heart .
WORKING OF HEART
TRANSPORTATION IN PLANTSTRANSPORTATION IN PLANTS
 In plants transportation
of materials like food ,
waste and mineral
takes place through
conducting tissues
called Xylem and
phloem.
EXCRETION IN HUMANEXCRETION IN HUMAN
 The excretory system
consist of a pair of
kidneys , a pair of
uterers , urinary
bladder and urethra.
Each kidneys has a
number of excretory
units called nephrons.
