Buddhism Artwork Along Silk Road Essay
Trade routes have always been more than just the means of transporting goods and services to
neighboring regions. These routes serve as a way to spread culture, art, religion, and many other
things amongst countries. One of the most outstanding trade routes in the past was the Silk Road
found in China. It was a route used by many people to travel and transport goods such as silk,
paper, livestock, jewels, and much more, from East to West China. It consisted of land and sea
routes, which made transportation and traveling convenient for man in that time period. There were
many items traded along the Silk Road that had a profound impact on the development of the
cultures, religions and other components. Religion was one thing that was... Show more content on

Much of these artworks were created during the Tang Dynasty, in the seventh century when trading
along the Silk Rode increased. The art developed during the Tang generation provided all with
valuable insight into the art. It was reflection of the cultural changed and the political power of the
Tang empire and the importance of Buddhism in Chinese culture. Buddhism began to spread along
the Silk Road and as it traveled it was accepted by those who lived in neighboring communities.
Monks who practiced Buddhism found many of these caves, and would paid artists to create murals
and paintings of the Buddhas teachings. Many of these caves had colorful wall painting and
Buddha images, which often were sponsored by travelers who sought protection for their journey
ahead or gave thanks for having their life. There were numerous murals that portrayed the preaching
scenes of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas that were reminders to believers of the religion to obtain their
ultimate goal of rebirth. By the late seventh century and early eighth century, Buddhism had
reached its highest point in China. With Buddhism reaching its peak, entire walls of the caves were
devoted to historical and legendary events, which allowed pilgrims to learn and practice the
religion. Throughout the Tang Dynasty artists traveled to The Caves of the Thousand Buddhas to
paint teachings of Buddhism, which included many portraits of

Theme Of Human Nature In Of Mice And Men
Throughout literature, many authors give themes that reflect human nature through their
characters. Human nature in Of Mice and Men is represented in different ways through the
workers on the ranch. All of the characters have different ways of living and surviving and most
of the characters only care of themselves. Human nature is reflected in the different themes the
reader sees in the novel such as the impossibility of the American Dream, loneliness, and
discrimination. The impossibility of the American Dream has been displayed in novels and in
movies for decades. In Of Mice and Men, George and Lennie believe they are going to have a
farm and thrive off of it. ... Someday we re gonna get the jack together and we re gonna have a
little house and a couple of acres an a cow and some pigs and An live off the fatta the lan ,

garden and about the rabbits in the cages and about the rain in the winter and the stove, and how
thick the cream is on the milk like you can hardly cut it. Tell about that, George. ... We ll have a
big vegetable patch and a rabbit hutch and chickens. And when it rains in the winter, we ll just
say the hell with goin to work, and we ll build up a fire in the stove and set around it an listen to
the rain comin down on the roof... (Steinbeck 14 15). Lennie held onto this idea that he was going

Improving Performance Appraisal For Employees
Improving Performance Appraisal for Employees
Introduction
One of the most important things in a company or organization is the performance appraisals that
are given to the employees, some management and upper management. A performance appraisal
can give so much information not only to the employer but also to the employee. There are many
different types of performance appraisal out there, also because every job is different the
performance for the different. A performance appraisal is important in any company because the
employee knows how they are doing well as the management staff. Performance appraisal are also
great because it shows it an employee need additional training or show improvement in certain
areas that they was having trouble in also if they are ready to go to the next step like a promotion
or a raise.
Literature Review/Findings
With any company that has employee is working for them they have a standard that they must
abide by. Some companies only do performance appraisals once a year and think that it is
effective way to rate their employees on company standard and to issue compensation and
discipline if need to. This not that very effective to run a business with employees the best way is
to do quarterly performance appraisals that way if an employee needs to be reprimanded it can be
done to correct the behavior before it gets to out of hand. According to Michael Aamodt, the author

The Great Gatsby Argumentative Quotes

goals everyone tries to accomplish, hopes they want to achieve, and dreams they want to fulfill.
Almost all Americans want The American Dream of building up their own wealth, having the
highest social status, and lastly having a picture perfect family. Throughout the novel, The Great
Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, he reveals the truth behind the American dream: it is possible to
build up an empire of wealth, however, Americans can never get to the highest social class unless
born into it, nor can they ever have the ideal, perfect family. James Gatz through hard work and

Gatsby will never truly be as exclusive as the other high class members due to the fact he, along
with the other self made millionaires, are considered newly rich people [who] are just big
bootleggers (107). East Egg is home to the prestigious residents of old money including Tom and
Daisy. West Egg just across the bay is the less fashionable of the two, though this is a most
superficial tag to express the bizarre and not a little sinister contrast between them, which is
home to Nick and Gatsby (5). A distinction between the classes is their source of transportation.
The people of West Egg drive the modern, luxury cars, Gatsby himself included, who drives a
rich cream color, bright with nickel car (64), while the people of East Egg still believe horses
are the best ways for transportation. Old money folk believe horses are the more prestigious
way to travel; Tom being from East Egg has a string of polo ponies from Lake forest (6) giving
him a sense of superiority. Gatsby [hasn t] got a horse (103) since he recently came into his
money, and is more into the modern luxuries the rich have to offer such as cars. The people of
East Egg look down on West Egg residents because in their eyes they are not as good as
themselves. The separation between the two classes cause the American Dream of being a
member of the highest social class to be unreachable for anyone including Gatsby. Not only can
Gatsby not reach the American Dream of being the highest social class, he will also never achieve

Terrorism And The Effect Of Terrorism
Fox News is not a credible source for viewers to watch because they racial profile and scrutinize
minority groups including Muslims. When a white men commit an act of terror, why are they are
never called terrorist? Why does the word terrorist only apply to Muslims? Who can be a terrorist?
Is labeling something an act of terrorismonly applied to someone who commits an act of terror?
Or is it only directed towards a specific group of people such as Muslims or brown people who
look Muslim? According to Lydia O Connor, Muslims have faced discrimination and hate for
their identity since the tragic 9/11 terrorist attack. Muslims are specifically targeted because of
how the media such as Fox News defines terrorists . In America, Fox News is one of the largest
cable channels in mainstream media. Millions of viewers are exposed to the redefinition and
reframing of terrorism and the labeling of the word terrorist. Fox News lack of accountability
for their misuse of the word terrorist consequentially contributes to the bias label only applied to
Muslims and most brown individuals. Nearly sixteen years later, Islamophobia has only
progressed and the word terrorist became a word that is only applicable to people of a particular
racial or religious identity. The word terrorist is only used to identify alleged Muslim terrorist not
all individuals who commit acts of terror. The term terrorism has become politicized because it has
inspired political action, laws, and

The Debate Over Home Schooling
The Debate Over Home Schooling
What is home schooling, and who is choosing to be home schooled? In this serious time of concern
about the standards of the public education system, it is found that in the United States, the number
of parents deciding to home school their kids is increasing. These parents believe that the education
system provided by their local schools is unsatisfactory compared to what they could do at home.
Home schooling has become more common in the past thirty years and has even started a trend
throughout the states. An estimation of a 235,000 335,000 increase of the number of home
schooled children within twenty years was reported by the U.S. Department of Education. Since
then, that number grown to an astonishing number of 1.7 million, and should continue to grow at a
rate of 15 percent a year. These numbers are considered low because it is not necessary in all states
to notify the Department of Education when parents decide to home school their children. Activists
such as David Gutterson explain home schooling as the attempt to receive an education at a place
other than an institution. Children who are home schooled spend most of a normal school day
learning in the environment of their homes. Unlike traditional schools, home schooled children s
parents are their teachers, which allows for variances in curriculum programs. Some parents choose
to follow a more traditional curriculum while others allow their students (children) to learn about

civil rights, women s suffrage, gay rights, anti war, labor movement, black power, and occupy wall

Environmental Justice team have done to improve the living circumstances of Ironbound. The
Ironbound has been a home to many industrial and residential communities where factories

The Tragedy Of Vladimir Lenin And The Rise Of Joseph Stalin
Some of the most tragic moments in Russian history occurred during the tumultuous period
between the death of Vladimir Lenin and the rise of Joseph Stalin during the 1930s. This was a
time of massive devastation during which almost 5 million peasants died of starvation due to the
failures of collective farming. Thousands of men and women were also falsely accused of anti
patriotism and sent to Siberian labor camps in which they experienced rampant disease, physical
and emotional abuse, and often execution. Vasily Grossman endeavors to discern who is to blame
for these injustices through his novel Everything Flows . Grossman s main character, Ivan, has just
been released from almost a thirty year imprisonment following the death of Stalin. Through Ivan s
recollections of camp life and assimilation into Post Stalinist Russia, Grossman reveals the forces
he believes are at fault. However, his understanding of this guilt is far more complex as revealed
through the means by which he evaluates the culpable factors. Grossman uses a method of
assessment similar to a bottom up analysis by beginning with the individual elements of the
Communist Party and progressing to a larger holistic view of Russian civilization. This method
allows for multiple factors to bear some of the blame without undue bias holding one entirely
accountable. Thus, Grossman is arguing that the slave identity embedded in Russian history was
responsible for the development of certain characteristics in Lenin s

Brunelleschi s Pazzi Chapel Analysis
This is a short essay on the Brunelleschi s Pazzi Chapel, located in Florence, Italy. It examines the
contribution of the monument to the development of architecture and how it conforms to the
architect s style. It further examines what influenced Brunelleschi s goal of creating a centralized
effect to his structures.
About Brunelleschi s Pazzi Chapel
In 1419 Brunelleschi was charged with the task of having to complete the dome for the chapel
located in Florence, Italy. The task occupied a significant part of Brunelleschi s life as it came with
enormous challenges because no dome of the kind had ever been put up since time immemorial
(Kleiner). Besides becoming an architectural problem, the dome astute engineering skill and
Brunelleschi invented and patented hoisting machines that could be used for undertaking the
requisite masonry for the dome. The dome had in excess of 4 million bricks and it rested on a
drum as opposed to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Brunelleschi s monument has a significant place in the development of architecture. First, the elders
of Florence had forbidden the construction of structures with buttresses. This provided an industrial
challenge as engineers and architects were baffling over the way structures could stand without
buttresses (Kleiner). Brunelleschi s dome had a base tensioned by the use of horizontal chains of
wood and iron. This cured the problem and many architects have referred to this technology in their
designs.
Secondly, earlier designs close to that of Brunelleschi s had failed to pick up because there were no
hoisting machines that could be used to undertake the masonry. The discovery and patenting of the
hoisting machines helped solve the puzzle and, to date, all means of hoisting have come up through
cranes of all types (Kleiner). All these means of hoisting owe their success to Brunelleschi s
discovery during the construction of the dome at Florence

Employee Compensation and Corporate Culture- What Works

Employee Compensation and Corporate Culture: What Works?
When determining what method to use to compensate employees, a company must be aware of the
impact that different compensation methods can have on employee performance, and on
organizational culture. Unfortunately, there is no one size fits all answer to the question of
employee compensation. Some employees will respond very well to a program that other
employees might balk at. Similarly, some companies or industries may flourish under one sort of
compensation scheme, while others are more successful with different schemes. This paper will
examine the various methods of compensation, and will speculate on what it is about compensation
that acts as a motivator for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another potential issue that prevents performance based compensation from being completely
effective is the method of implementation. What performance an employee is being compensated
for is just as important as (if not more important than) the fact the he is being compensated for
performance. If an employee is being compensated for sales he makes, he may find himself
cutting corners or ignoring rules to make sales that he ought not to make. Ho et al use Sears as
an example of this phenomenon. In 1992, Sears ended a policy of performance based
compensation that had failed miserably, because auto repair salespeople had performed $15
million dollars of unnecessary services for which Sears was ultimately forced to refund payment,
or pay other settlement costs. The issue was that Sears was paying their salespeople based on the
number of sales they made, thus giving them a motivation to perform unnecessary services, despite
the fact that this would cause the company in incur long run costs. Thus, performance based pay is
not necessarily a good thing, especially if it is linked to an aspect of performance that may not
directly relate to overall company performance. One might try to learn a lesson from this example
and determine that employees should

Staff Sargent Kingsley, the manager in charge of maintaining order in the barracks. He was also

Simpson from Huntington, West Virginia. Airman Simpson was about twenty and was shorter
than me with a little more bulk. Despite the common misconception that the men of West
Virginia were isolated rough and rugged mountain boys, Simpson was charismatic and

overwhelmed by the sheer size and lack of perimeter fence to keep unauthorized personnel from

Persuasive Essay On Teen Mom
My 16 year old daughter Kathryn sits me down on the living room couch and somberly
announces, Dad, I have something to tell you. Outside in our sleepy town of Dunwoody,
Georgia, five inches of rain pour down on our streets. The public school system has decided to
cancel the day s classes. My wife Bonnie just dialed me and told me she d be home in about an
hour. Lucky for me, it s my day off from work, so I enjoy a few hours watching TV and channel
surfing. Two hours into my endless search for a show to watch, Teen Mom, one of my daughter
s favorite programs, pops up on the screen. I haven t told my only daughter what I truly think
about Teen Mom yet because I don t want to hurt her typical adolescent feelings. But I believe
she should stop watching the series because it casts these young women in a negative light.
Once I see two cast members throwing punches, I immediately press a couple of digit buttons on
my remote to switch the channel to a local news station. The latest story focuses on an upcoming
Madonna concert in Atlanta, where she will perform some of her biggest hits. This time last
year, my daughter stated she d begun dating a boy from school of whom I m not too fond. He s
one of those rebellious kids with whom no parent wants their daughter to begin a relationship.
Additionally, he has a history of abusing drugs and alcohol. Also, when the two first met, she
was only 15 years old and he was 18. Their romance is technically illegal in the state despite their
simultaneous high school attendance. Now I imagine she d blurt out the news any father would
dread. Wait, what? I would raise my voice, then bury my head in my hands. Yeah, she d continue
as raindrops would start to cover her cheeks, and I m keeping the baby. Of course you are, I
would warn her. You re not getting an abortion. At this moment, I d echo the same five words
my father told Bonnie and I when we gave birth to Kathryn at...yes, 16. We ve worked so hard to
help Kathryn avoid making the same mistake we made. (Well, when I look at our only child the
girl next door, the cheerleader, the one at the top of her class of course, she s no mistake. She s a
blessing.) Anyway, I ve risen up the ranks from construction

Examples Of Anti-Hero In Inception
An anti hero can be defined as a character with a pivotal role in a story and possess traits
contrasted with those of a traditional hero. While the traditional heroic character is brave, strong,
and seems to have no flaws, anti hero character can be clumsy, unsolicited foolish, is often the
embodiment of ineptitude or bad luck and is an amalgamation of both good and evil. An anti
heroic character in a story can display a wide variety of traits while still fitting in the anti herorole.
Earnes and Yusuf from the film Inception portrays an anti hero persona in different ways, both
characters are distinctively contrasting but yet similarly alike.
Eames is a character with many talents and is a suave, smoothly attracting people easily. He also
shows his competitive spirit while gambling, however in other hand, he is also laid back. He is
reliable with his specialty which is forging, but he is somewhat of a loner, choosing to work apart

The Global Environment, Differentiation, Low Cost...
In today`s global environment, differentiation, low cost leadership, and responsiveness are among
three major characteristics of an organisation that aims to achieve a competitive advantage over its
competitors. Organisations also endeavour to reduce lead time and their direct and indirect costs,
increase return on investment as well as customer satisfaction, improve quality and reliability of
their products. However they also need to consider social, environmental and ethical concerns and
establish a company mission and vision in such a way that mitigate these concerns while achieving
a competitive advantage.
Strategies through achieving a competitive advantage resulted in the existence of the terms
`Globalisation` and supply chain management (SCM). Because in today`s emerging and
industrialized environment companies seek to achieve competitive advantages and are no longer
competing with their own expertise but with the talent in their entire global supply chain. [1]
Another reason why the importance of SCM has been highlighted is that most of the companies
need other manufacturers or companies from which they can supply raw materials, sub assemblies
and components, finished goods, or equipment in order to keep their production in working order,
achieve their business objectives and goals and customer satisfaction, and meet customers` rapidly
changing requirements at right time, cost and quality. In such circumstances, the commercial

FST 426L.1
Purpose
The objective of this experiment is to prepare and identify several types of esters by the process of
dehydration synthesis using an alcohol with an acid.
Introduction
The process by which esters are formed is a reversible reaction called esterification. They are
formed when alcohols react with carboxylic acids in the presence of hydrochloric acid or sulfuric
acid. This reaction is known as a condensation reaction. In the reaction above, the hydroxyl group (
OH) in the carboxylic acid is replaced by the alkoxy group ( R*O) of the alcohol yielding an ester
and water. Esters are used as constituents of perfumes, cosmetics, and surfactants, just to mention a
few examples. In addition to this they are used in the food industry for flavoring of sweet and
margarine. In the article, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

esters is shown in the last column of this table as well as how the team member identified the
odors of the ester produced. Table 2 shows the results for all 5 groups in the class. Most of the
esters produced in this laboratory experiment were easily identified as specific fragances such as
banana, wintergreen, and menthol. It is shown in the table, that banana was the most identified
one followed by tube M and tube A. The rest of the esters, E and B, had more variability in the
identification of esters while C was identified as mouthwash, which can be associated to the
menthol flavor and odor. Ester in tube B was the hardest to be identified according to Table 2,
since it had 4 different associated smells to it. Students identified one of the odors as expo marker
which can be due to experimental error in which the ester did not fully react and the solution
smelled more like alcohol (ethanol or isopropanol), which are ingredients that most dry erase
markers such as the brand Expo

agenda...[and] are often found to have a substantial impact on policy outcomes. Many political
candidates from both sides of the partisan aisle have run on a platform of neutralizing the force of
special interests in Washington, and this illuminates why that s an important issue. Special interests
lobby because they have something to gain from the result of the policy, or those they represent do.
It s not always a nefarious intention, but the parochial nature of special interests is in conflict with
policy that affects the American public at large, and those interests often win out because they
wield power over lawmakers at the national, state and local

West Jet s Brand Management
According to a recent survey by SFP (Spencer Francey Peters), a North American branding agency
and The Strategic Counsel, WestJet came in at number 3 in Canada s best managed brands, while
Air Canada bottomed out in last place. Respondents ranked companies based on a number of
criteria relating to delivery of brandpromise including consumer focus, customer service, brand
values, reliability, consistency, value, trustworthiness and respect (par3 Best Managed Brands). The
interesting part of this survey, is that by having consumers respond to these criteria, the companies
brands are judged not by how much value the consumer sees in the product and service they are

Ogilvie s Syndrome Case Report
Introduction
This case report seeks to highlight a rather uncommon yet important complication of caesarean
section; Ogilvie s Syndrome (OS). This syndrome describes the phenomenon of an acute colonic
pseudo obstruction (ACPO), often without an obvious mechanical cause. The obstruction can then
lead on to bowel perforation or ischemia.
Case Report
We present a case of a young, healthy primigravida who developed OS on Day 6 post caesarean
section (CS), complicated by a perforated caecum and fecal peritonitis. We will summarize the
sequence of events, management and outcome of the patient in this report.
Conclusion
We hope that this report will pique the interest of obstetricians as well as the midwifery staff in
terms of prompt ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Antenatal care had been uneventful, and she was categorized as a low risk pregnancy. She was
induced with 1mg of ProstinD Gel followed by artificial rupture of membrane (ARM) the
subsequent day which showed the presence of light meconium stained liquor. Her labour was
augmented with SyntocinonD and routine labour monitoring was commenced with no abnormal
recordings throughout labour. Following 12 hours of active labour with good progress initially, it
then slowed down and arrested at 8cm. On examination cervix was found to be 8cm dilated and
baby was in direct occiput posterior position. Subsequently, A Category 2 emergency Caesarean

Early Medieval Architecture
Early Medieval structures are typically built from a combination of stone and timber called half
timbered buildings (anything built earlier than the 11th century) and later built with just stone.
They were built with a secure base, easily defended because of the thick high walls, and secure
entry gates to protect from frontal attacks. Some even included keeps, turrets with small, high
windows (which provided protection for archers), and a moat or trench of water to deter
invaders. These buildings were also strategically placed next to bodies of water or mountains to
monitor and control access and resources in case of a siege. This building style was mostly
militaristic and less extravagant because the people in this period from 500 to 1000... Show more

crenelations in the Windor castle and ravelins in the Castillo. The only differences between the
two were the shapes of the structures the Castillo being made into the shape of a star and the
Windsor castle made into more of a circular type structure around the town, what type of stone
they were made with regular stone vs. Coquina, and how they were built, the Bastion system vs.
motte and bailey castle building, due to varying locations and advances in militaristic building
technology. There were more weapons on the Castillo and they were less about protecting the
people and more about protecting the gold. And ultimately the building of the Castillo was more
advanced because they had the time and greater wealth to develop something of a greater stature
than the fort and it wasn t just made for protection of the people but more so for the protection of
their assets. But without the engineering feats of the Windsor Castle the Castillo may never have
been built because it was a result of years and years of militaristic advances in building technology.

Charles Darwin s Theory Of Evolution And Natural Selection
Charles Darwin
Charles Darwin was born in Shrewsbury, England, on February 12, 1809. He died on April 19,
1882 in Kent, England (Biography.com Editors). Charles Darwin brought many revolutionary
visions to the world of science, including evolution. Charles Darwin was an English naturalist and
geologist. He is best known for his theory of evolution, and natural selection. Darwin learned most
of his information on the Voyage of the Beagle, and from this trip he wrote a book, Of the Origin
of Species. From this book, came the saying Survival of the Fittest. Charles Darwin accomplished
many things with his life. He still has many fans and followers because of his discoveries. Darwin
was the second youngest of six children. He came from a long line of family studying science
(Biography.com Editors.). Darwin s parents were both doctors, and his grandfather was a botanist.
Botany is the study of plants, including their physiology, structure, genetics, ecology, distribution,
classification, and economic importance, (dictionary.com). Charles mother died when he was only
eight years old, so he was raised by his three sisters. Darwin s family was wealthy (Biography.com

The Development Of Qin Shi Huang In China
Power. It is a concept that has always been part of human societies regardless of time period or
area. Though expressed in different ways and structures, it was and still is part of human
civilizations today. However, within the establishments of power, many conflicts arise for both
those in power and those governed by the rulers, such as problems over the selection of new
authority figures and the retainment of their power. This conflict can be recognized from the ruling
of Qin Shi Huangin China in the mid 200s BC. He is well known for uniting the Chinese states
during the Warring States Period, in which the country was broken up into states that were in a war
for dominance (Mark). Shi Huang ultimately founded the Qin Dynasty and worked to improve
humanity by helping construct the Great Wall for defense and the Lingqu Canal for commerce
(Mark). However, he later began to threaten those who refused to comply with his ideas, and he
became more concerned with becoming immortal and keeping his power (Szczepanski).
Due to his obsessive desire over the idea of immortality and maintaining his imperial status in the
afterlife, Qin Shi Huang decided to recreate the entire Chinese empire underground as his tomb
(Szczepanski). About 700,000 laborers were hired to build this mausoleum over a course of 36
years; more than 8,000 unique, life size terracotta soldiers as well as horses, chariots, jewelry, and
ritual ships were created ( Qin Tomb ). These terracotta soldiers each had

information. Each product within the shopping center will be labeled with a unique Electronic
Product Code (EPC) that will take the place of UPC bar code. Each label could contain 96 bits of
information, including names of products, the manufacturers and a 40 bit serial numbers. There is
going to be an attachable RFIDreader with LED screen attached, when the products with the RFID
tags are thrown in the cart, the scan reader will automatically scan the tag and show the price on the
LED screen and calculate it, making it easier for customers to manage their budget. Then when
customers are done with their shopping, they can push the cart and go through the exit door that
has the Near Field Communication (NFC) devices embedded, which can read RFID tags and extract
information stored in them, allowing the charge to automatically go to the customer s credit card.
The scanner reader for the RFID tags is also going to replace the UPC readers at the doors near
the exit of the stores. Using a network called Object Naming service, which is a database that would
retrieve the information and then direct the information to stores computers once it leaves the

Analysis Of Mikhall Kalotozov s I Am Cuba Loose A Sense...
The protagonists in Mikhall Kalotozov s I am Cuba loose a sense of what of the meaning of life
but also mainly themselves. Throughout the film there is a rollercoaster of constant reoccurring
loss of innocence but once again is brought back since each character is started off as an innocent.
To be innocent means to be pure of heart and without guilt. An innocent person has not done any
wrong. It ties into the film because each of the three of the personas start off with the smile but is
soon stripped from them for whatever reason.
The cycle first starts off with the persona of Maria. In the beginning of the film she is shown
walking down the street casually talking to the fruit seller, also known as the fiancГ©, RenГ©. As

When she says she is scared, she is seen in a spaghetti strap black dress wearing a crucifix around
her neck. The black dress could be a reference to the fact that her innocence has died along with her
personality and identity. As Jim leaves he gives Maria money in exchange for her crucifix, now
she has not only lost the last piece of her personality and but the last ounce of innocence she had.
One reason that Maria would be scared is due to the fact that she has two personalities, one of
which is kept on the down low. The personality kept under locks is the one that is referred to as
Betty the club worker, possibly prostitute. The choice of the name Betty as Maria s stage name
probably wasn t at random. In the late 1920 s into the 1930 s Betty Boop was created to represent
flapper girls. Flappers were young girls who had yet to enter womanhood. They embraced their
free spirit and had many uncontrolled acts of fun with treating sex as something casual. After
Maria and Jim have sex and after she is caught by her fiancГ© she just lays there totally
emotionless. The emotionless face she give could be a sign of the fact the sex didn t mean anything.
Life sucks then gets better and then sucks again. The second protagonist is a farmer named Pedro.
Pedro is an old peasant who had it all but then lost completely everything and as soon as his life
was getting better he lost

How Does Skin-Tone Crayons Make A Negative Aspect Of...
The content on children s programming on public television greatly impacts cultural sensitivity.
The amount of diversity we have in the United States causes us to have cultural sensitivity on
our public programs which could be positive or negative. Having cultural sensitivity on public
programming can help people acknowledge and accept other ethnicities but, a negative aspect
of cultural sensitivity is over accommodating toward people of these other ethnicities and acting
different toward them. Racial and cultural awareness starts when children are infants and
toddlers. At that age, children learn what is me and what is not me (Biles, Barbara). After a
workshop session on cultural awareness, I was asked, Does this really matter? Will adding skin
tone crayons make a difference in children s lives? Yes, I said, skin tone crayons help a child
become aware of who he is and who others are (Biles, Barbara). The small changes like this will
help kids develop positive feelings about their racial and cultural identity (Biles, Barbara). Children
need to be enlightened to cultural awareness at an early... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sometimes, there is a fear or accidentally stereotyping people of other ethnicities and acting safe,
or more reserved. At some point in a child s life, their parent needs to talk to them about
discrimination and racism. But, parents also feel uncomfortable talking to their children about
cultural diversity. For example, if a child sees someone who is Asian in a grocery store and asked
why they look different then he or she does, the parent of the child will tell the child to stop
talking or stop staring. But, telling a young child who is just trying to get an explanation on why
they are different to not talk about it could be reinforcing that these differences are in some way

however, something seems wrong, especially if they are leading their sheep into oblivion.

The poem seems to follow the traditional retribution principle argument, that if you do evil then
evil will be done unto you. However, as the Book of Job explains, this notion is not correct, that
there will be, and has been, false shepherds who abuse their flock without retribution. On the
contrary though, this is also a poem and does include the author s feelings and emotions and can
simply be their outlook and message that one should not be false shepherds in the first place.
Nevertheless, at this level we can separate the amateur writing from the great writing. If the moral
messages of the writing are strong then that means all the metaphors, symbols and imagery in the
writing works in tandem with each other to paint the larger picture. However, if the morals
messages writing are weak then that means the literary devices of the writing are also confusing
and bewildering, leading to an unmoving and ineffective piece of writing. This poem is not at the
moral level yet, because the moral of the poem is not very strong, as it is mostly

Cesar Freire s Pedagogy Of The Oppressed
Paulo Freire s Pedagogy of the Oppressed presents two distinct educational methods and asserts that
problem posing education, rather than the banking method, is what is necessary for humanity. This
particular excerpt of Pedagogy of the Oppressed encapsulates a vast scope of education. It begins
with an exposition, revealing what exactly banking method is, followed by the explanation of
problem posing education. Throughout the duration of the chapter, Freire passionately presents his
ideals about education through the scopes of these two educational styles. Pedagogy of the
Oppressed starts off with an explanation that the focus of his analysis is the relationship between
teachers and students. First, Freire believes that the majority of teachers today talk about reality as
if it were motionless, static, compartmentalized, and predictable (Paolo Freire). He uses lucidly
negative diction like hollow and alienating to describe the words these teachers speak, emphasizing
that this clearly isn t enough when it comes to educating students Freire goes on to call this
particular type of educating narrative education (Freire). Narrative education is where teachers act
as the omnipotent being. Students are merely taught everything as if it were objectively the same as
any other fact, and not taught the significance. Teachers do not learn anything from the students,
either. Narrative education is a one way street. An aspect of narrative education is the polarizing
idea of

ABSTRACT
The distribution of powers is an essential feature of Federalism. The object for which a federal State

to split up the strength of the State among co ordinate and independent authorities are especially
noticeable . A Federal Constitutionestablishes a dual polity with the Union at the Center and the

APPLICABILITY OF THE DOCTRINE OF REPUGNANCY
The Doctrine of Repugnancy has been applied in a number of cases in India.
In a recent judgment , dealing with the issues relating to the constitutional validity of Maharashtra
Control of the Organized Crime Act (a State legislation), the Supreme Court revisited the doctrine
of Repugnancy and explained its nuances in its decision in Zameer Ahmed Latifur Rehman Sheikh

Essay On Surface Hardness Of Cang
Surface Hardening of Cams for Venture Consulting
Introduction
Dean and Triana s invention is running into trouble when it is used continuously for long
periods of time because the cams are too soft, resulting in wear and misalignment in the
invention. They already have all of the cams, so switching materials is not an option, so we must
find a way to harden the surface of the cams to reduce wear. The cams are made of 1020 steel,
which has a hardness of 111 HB, and only has 0.20% carbon, classifying it as a low carbon steel.
For this reason we recommend that carburization be utilized to increase the carbon composition at
the surface, and thus increase the surface hardness. This occurs because the presence of carbon
interstitially diffused ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Interstitial diffusion is the specific type of diffusion that will be going on. Interstitial diffusion
typically involves one substance with much smaller atoms than the substance it is moving into,
and the small atoms will move in between larger atoms in the lattice structure. We know that the
radius of Carbon is 67 pm or 67*10 12 m and the radius of radius of Iron is 156 pm or 156*10 12
m. Carbon atoms are 89 picometers smaller in radius than Iron atoms. Carbon atoms are
considerably smaller than Iron atoms as they are smaller than half the size of iron atoms. Because
of the small size of carbon, it will enter the iron crystal structure through interstitial diffusion.
The Governing Equation for this diffusion is (C Co)/(Cs Co)=1 erf[ x/(2*(Dt)1/2)] .
This an equation for a non steady state diffusion process that has been derived from Fick s Second
Law which describes how atoms diffuse initially at a non steady state and has been described in:
Diffusion can be used for this problem because of the carburization process that will strengthen the
steel cams. Carburization is a process in which our steel cams will be heat treated in a high carbon
environment. What will be going on during this heat treatment, is the carbon in the atmosphere will
be diffusing into the cams through interstitial diffusion. The heat in the environment facilitates the
diffusion. The carbon diffuses from

There are also staff departments, which are the researchers, marketing, accounting, and sales
specializations (Bateman, 2011). Because each Chick fil A has a private owner, the store operator
would be the line department and the corporate office will be the staff department. As defined by
Bateman, a Functional Organization departmentalizes around specialized jobs, such as accounting,
marketing, and production. Each Chick fil A restaurant operates under their own management;
however the marketing, production, accounting, and human resources departments operate from
the corporate office (Chick fil A, 2011). Since, the structure of an organization dictates how the
company will grow, creating a strong foundation will benefit a company in numerous ways. Within
any business there are the organizational functions that can create the type of structure an
organization will have. A business s functions are the things it does. Production, sales, and
marketing are a few examples Chick fil A has within the company. The organizational structure
defines the relationship and interactions between the different parts of the company, and identifies
how the chain of command runs through the different levels. When money is earned at a fast pace,
it opens doors for the company to expand. As the company grows, they begin to hire more

Background and purpose: To quantify the 4 week incidence, timing and predictors of ischemic
stroke after trauma in a population based young cohort.
Methods: We electronically identified trauma patients ( 30 days apart could be considered
independent. As a secondary analysis, we calculated stroke incidence including all cases with a
stroke ICD 9 code in order to provide a useful comparison with studies using ICD 9 stroke
diagnoses for the outcome. For trauma patients who suffered a stroke, we graphically demonstrated

stroke as the failure event, right censoring at death or four weeks after trauma.
For the case control study, we used logistic regression to calculate odds ratios (OR) and 95%
confidence intervals (CI) as an estimate of stroke risk. In order to determine whether stroke risk
varied differentially by location of injury, we first examined each location individually. We then
modeled the association between stroke and each injury location with adjustment for age, race, sex
and multisystem trauma (given that the composite multisystem trauma variable does not specify
injury location).
Results: From a population of 34 million enrolled in KPNC over the 15 year study period, we
identified 989,333 patients who had 1,308,009 emergency department encounters or admissions to
the hospital for trauma. Patients contributed a median of one trauma encounter (interquartile range

Peer Reflection
Peer Reflection Report
For my peer reflection assignment, I chose to review a video posted by Lana Pachuca. I chose her
video because I have watched most of my classmates videos over the past few weeks, however
this was the first week I was able to watch one of hers. Also, her counseling session was focusing
on helping a client deal with coping skills for anxiety and I was interested in seeing the outcomes
of the client using the coping skills over the course of a week.
I felt that Lana did a great job of demonstration how to use reflection of content back to the client.
For example, Lana asked her client how the past week of using the coping skills turned out for her,
and Lana was able to clearly articulate how the client was successful at ... Show more content on

However, I have realized that counseling skills can be learned, practiced and mastered over time.
Although I believe that I have some natural abilities that can be considered helping skills in
counseling, I have learned that I have some strengths that can be refined and continually
strengthened, while those skills that I am naturally weak in can be the skills that I focus on
developing through practice and research. For example, I know that I do well with making people
feel comfortable by exhibiting an open posture, while attending to them with relevant open ended
questions. On the other end, I struggle with using various sentence stems when reflecting back
emotions and content to the client. I also found myself struggling at times clearly communicating
directions to interventions that I would like for a client to try during a counseling session. It was
an enlightening experience to be able to watch my classmates learn and grow in developing their
counseling skills and techniques too. I felt like we are all able to not only learning from one another
but have the opportunity to engage in some of the modeling techniques we learning about in the
behavioral interventions section of our text (Hackney Cormier,

North West Passage Analysis
Engendering a vast array of undesirable outcomes, including setting into motion a host of
unpredictable collateral damage akin to falling dominoes, one poorly orchestrated strategic decision
gone awry can have far reaching effects. Even the best laid plans can become casualties of
immitigable disruption, disaster or destruction. And for this reason, the insuranceindustry retains
significant influence around the globe by fiscally protecting people and entities on a broad range of
applications covering healthcare, infrastructure, intellectual property and even errors made by third
parties. Part of riskmitigation strategies, insurances serve their customers well as an indemnifier.

Known as the North West Passage, it represented the quest for direct navigable trade by
circumventing those land barriers originally discovered by Christopher Columbus. In fact, British
explorers continued their search for the elusive passage through the eightieth century, eventually
abandoning those efforts entirely. The Northwest Passage ultimately proved viable with successful
transit during the early twentieth century. Nevertheless, it wasn t until recent years that it even
generated more than a modicum of interest. Treacherous multi year ice, a grave risk for the
commercial shipping industry where it can readily cut through a ship s hull, continues as a huge
concern. Game changing technical advancements associated with modern navigation,
communication, and meteorology in concert with climate shifts in the region later altered that
equation. As a result, governmental authorities now have the ability to declare the passage

The Three Branches Of Government

Manny Ontiveros
15 July 2017 Three Branches of Government In the United States, our federal government is made
up of three branches. The first branch includes the President of the United States presenting the
Executive. The Executive Branch takes control in making sure the people of the United States obey
all laws. The President works with Congress to administer laws. The second branch of government
includes the Legislative branch, also known as Congress. The Legislative Branch includes the
Senate and the House of Representatives. There are 100 senators 2 from each state and 435
representatives. The number of representatives is decided by population of state. The third branch
of government is the Judicial Branch which includes 9 Justices of Supreme Court. The Supreme
Court makes all decisions meaning they are the highest of all courts. Center of operation for all
three branches are located in Washington, DC. The President of the United Stateshas many
demands that are required to keep this country running smoothly. The Constitution shows many
responsibilities of a president, but with advancing society, many expectations are altering and
getting harder. First of many roles include Chief of State. Chief of State is the individual a
country calls on when it needs a spokesperson to talk with a foreign country. When a country
needs to focus all of its national pride on someone at a national celebration, like a holiday or even

Eye of the Beholder Twilight Zone Essay
The Twilight Zone was notoriously known for reflecting social and political issues in an
entertaining and imaginative allegories. Debuting in 1959 and airing until 1964, this anthological
series often left viewers contemplating their own thoughts through the stories creator Rod
Serling painted out for them. One episode in particular, directed by Douglas Heyes, was
notorious for the impact it left on viewers. Airing on November 11th, 1960 and running at 25
minutes and 14 seconds, Eye of the Beholder made a dramatic impact on viewers due to its
intensely eerie nature and topsy turvy world. Eye of the Beholder was a science fiction story about

The doctor then stands up and heads towards the window, now facing the light. The nurse now
becomes a metaphor for society and how most people think, and him turning her back towards her
and facing the light shows him beginning to turn his back on society and starting to question and
reject it, thus becoming enlightened. Every time the doctor starts to critically think out loud, the
camera goes from a medium shot to a medium close up of the back of his head. He then begins to
talk about how he sees Janet s real face or her actual self. This scene was after Janet broke down
to the doctor, questioning who says what is attractive and normal, and saying a powerful quote
This state is not God. This clearly affected the doctor and got him thinking and realizing that she
is a human being. Earlier in this scene, the nurse refers to Janet as Patient 307 rather than her
own name. This shows how society can easily dehumanize people when we do not deem them
functioning members of society, for there is nothing more demeaning then being referred to as a
number as we have seen in terrible times such as the Holocaust referring to the concentration
camp members. The nurse, remaining in the dark, says It s easier for me to think of her as
human when her face is covered up . When the doctor explains that he saw her real face, the face of
a real self, it s a good face, it s a human face It shows that he now sees her as a person rather than

Over the past three months Winona Lake has experienced some roadblocks with completion of

Finally, it will go right by trail house and terminate at Beta Hall. The target completion date for
the Greenway project is in 2016 due to seating and landscaping. Once we started the project we

So the intuitive ability of a Retail Sales Associate to adapt to different shopping preferences is
needed on his/her part to succeed in this job role.
Responsibilities of a Retail Sales Associate include building customer confidence by making their
shopping experience interactive, engaging and reassuring; developing the customers experience by
positive addressing to and solving their problems; making effective use of store displays to attract
the customers; and developing a positive customer relationship.
Moreover, to improve the employees performance I need to modify their behaviors and need to
define before them three essential behaviors that are necessary for job performance being polite
and communicative so that customers feel easy to interact, being a good and patient listener so that
the problems of the customers can be understood and addressed properly, and always having a
pleasant attitude. So, for behavior modification I need to implement the following Organizational
Behavior Modification (OBM) Plan:
Firstly, I have to identify the performance related behaviors that are problematic ( Organizational
Behavior Modification (OB MOD): A corrective behavior strategy , n.d.). Secondly, I have to
measure the degree of the problem by establishing a baseline in the target problem behavior (

Should School Be A Mandatory Course On The Real World And...
Do you remember when we had our first job, and couldn t wait for that first check? I remember
mine. The money was all gone in 60 seconds, as I spent it all on things that didn t really matter.
We all wished we could ve prevented that spending habit. I regret every penny that I lost, while I
had no idea how to use money correctly. School districts need to focus on providing courses that
will better prepare students for real life issues. Therefore, there should be a mandatory course on,
Personal Finance, in high School, because as they are struggling to figure out who they are as they
are also oblivious to their own financial identity status, they don t know have the financial
discipline from home, on understanding how to manage their money, and the most financial issues
results to even academic failure. There are many ways to prepare these students for the real world
and money. First of all, if you remember that piggy bankthat we kept as kids, it was probably the
only understanding we had about money, growing up. We would put money in there, and we
weren t allowed to touch it unless it got full. And when that time came, the only way to access
our savings, is if we sacrificed that piggy, by throwing it on the ground, or hammering it to pieces.
We did just about anything to get that piggy bank to open. Well, because of the lack of knowledge
today, our reality of piggy banks as adults has diminished. Today that piggy has hole at the bottom.
We are able to dig into that

Understanding that and accepting it is a person with good sportsmanship. Where as if they were
upset at their teammates for not doing their part and getting overly upset at the other team for
playing good soccer is not good sportsmanship. At the end of the game, whether you have lost or
have won you always shake hands with the other team. It is always necessary to let the other
team know that it was a good well played game whatever the outcome was. A person with good
sportsmanship would clearly accept that fact. People that do have good sportsmanship are more
easy to be around. It s almost like they re carefree and just play soccer for the fun of the game and
not just for the win. Don t get me wrong, it is always better to win, but everyone loses at least
once in his or her lives. Lastly, I think that dedication is another key component to playing yet
again, not just soccer, but any sport. Having a teammate that isn t dedicated is like having an
employee not show up to work every other day. You need that person to be there to get the job
done. If you miss days of practice or even games, those are days that everyone is running an hour
more than you and are gaining more endurance. It almost will seem like you can see the players
that aren t as dedicated on the field because they don t care as much. An article called what

He was pretty good, but low expectations. His voice wasn t as good as I thought it would be. He
was little more oversized in real life which made me mad because he probably uses that weird
junk to make him lose about 20 pounds. I sang along to most of his songs, but what really made
me mad is that he sang his less known songs last. It was disappointing, I had a fun time with other
friends though. The fair is always fun with friends, but not when Lee Brice sucks.

Australia is considered to be the driest populated continent in the world and faces stern drought and

The Government aims to reduce emissions to 60% lower than 2000 levels by 2050, and its
medium term target ranges between 5 and 15% below 2000 levels by 2020. According to the
government, Australia needs to reach an universal agreement so that atmospheric contents of
greenhouse gases can be stabilized at around 450 parts per million of CO2E (Carbon Dioxide
Equivalent). The government has realized that to achieve this global commitment with such action
is going to be challenging in the future. The medium term targets set by Australia are quite similar
to that of many other countries that have announced their targets. For example: the European Union
(Pope, 2009).
The working of the ETS is mainly based on emitters of any six greenhouse gases who acquire a
permit for each tonne of gas they emit. There is monitoring, reporting and auditing done on the
total amount of emissions the industries produce. During the end of every financial year, each
firm surrenders a permit for each tonne of emissions they produced during that year. Limited
amounts of permits are issued by the Government every year and entities compete to buy the
amount of permits they need. The permits are mostly auctioned or traded in the secondary market
and firms who consider the permits of high value pay a lot for them. Reducing emissions than
buying permits is a convenient choice for smaller firms. Few other firms are allocated free

Buddhism began to spread along the Silk Road and as it traveled it was accepted by those who lived in neighboring communities. Monks who practiced Buddhism found many of these caves, and would paid artists to create murals and paintings of the Buddhas teachings. Many of these caves had colorful wall painting and Buddha images, which often were sponsored by travelers who sought protection for their journey ahead or gave thanks for having their life. There were numerous murals that portrayed the preaching scenes of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas that were reminders to believers of the religion to obtain their ultimate goal of rebirth. By the late seventh century and early eighth century, Buddhism had reached its highest point in China. With Buddhism reaching its peak, entire walls of the caves were devoted to historical and legendary events, which allowed pilgrims to learn and practice the religion. • 3. Theme Of Human Nature In Of Mice And Men Throughout literature, many authors give themes that reflect human nature through their characters. Human nature in Of Mice and Men is represented in different ways through the workers on the ranch. All of the characters have different ways of living and surviving and most of the characters only care of themselves. Human nature is reflected in the different themes the reader sees in the novel such as the impossibility of the American Dream, loneliness, and discrimination. The impossibility of the American Dream has been displayed in novels and in movies for decades. In Of Mice and Men, George and Lennie believe they are going to have a farm and thrive off of it. ... Someday we re gonna get the jack together and we re gonna have a little house and a couple of acres an a cow and some pigs and An live off the fatta the lan , Lennie shouted. An have rabbits. • 5. The Great Gatsby Argumentative Quotes 422726 Prompt 4 Comments The Hunt The human race can never be fully satisfied. There are goals everyone tries to accomplish, hopes they want to achieve, and dreams they want to fulfill. Almost all Americans want The American Dream of building up their own wealth, having the highest social status, and lastly having a picture perfect family. Throughout the novel, The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, he reveals the truth behind the American dream: it is possible to build up an empire of wealth, however, Americans can never get to the highest social class unless born into it, nor can they ever have the ideal, perfect family. James Gatz through hard work and dedication turns himself into Jay Gatsby, a self made millionaire. James Gatz... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Gatsby will never truly be as exclusive as the other high class members due to the fact he, along with the other self made millionaires, are considered newly rich people [who] are just big bootleggers (107). East Egg is home to the prestigious residents of old money including Tom and Daisy. West Egg just across the bay is the less fashionable of the two, though this is a most superficial tag to express the bizarre and not a little sinister contrast between them, which is home to Nick and Gatsby (5). A distinction between the classes is their source of transportation. The people of West Egg drive the modern, luxury cars, Gatsby himself included, who drives a rich cream color, bright with nickel car (64), while the people of East Egg still believe horses are the best ways for transportation. Old money folk believe horses are the more prestigious way to travel; Tom being from East Egg has a string of polo ponies from Lake forest (6) giving him a sense of superiority. Gatsby [hasn t] got a horse (103) since he recently came into his money, and is more into the modern luxuries the rich have to offer such as cars. The people of East Egg look down on West Egg residents because in their eyes they are not as good as themselves. The separation between the two classes cause the American Dream of being a member of the highest social class to be unreachable for anyone including Gatsby. Not only can Gatsby not reach the American Dream of being the highest social class, he will also never achieve the American Dream of a picture perfect ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Terrorism And The Effect Of Terrorism Fox News is not a credible source for viewers to watch because they racial profile and scrutinize minority groups including Muslims. When a white men commit an act of terror, why are they are never called terrorist? Why does the word terrorist only apply to Muslims? Who can be a terrorist? Is labeling something an act of terrorismonly applied to someone who commits an act of terror? Or is it only directed towards a specific group of people such as Muslims or brown people who look Muslim? According to Lydia O Connor, Muslims have faced discrimination and hate for their identity since the tragic 9/11 terrorist attack. Muslims are specifically targeted because of how the media such as Fox News defines terrorists . In America, Fox News is one of the largest cable channels in mainstream media. Millions of viewers are exposed to the redefinition and reframing of terrorism and the labeling of the word terrorist. Fox News lack of accountability for their misuse of the word terrorist consequentially contributes to the bias label only applied to Muslims and most brown individuals. Nearly sixteen years later, Islamophobia has only progressed and the word terrorist became a word that is only applicable to people of a particular racial or religious identity. The word terrorist is only used to identify alleged Muslim terrorist not all individuals who commit acts of terror. The term terrorism has become politicized because it has inspired political action, laws, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Debate Over Home Schooling The Debate Over Home Schooling What is home schooling, and who is choosing to be home schooled? In this serious time of concern about the standards of the public education system, it is found that in the United States, the number of parents deciding to home school their kids is increasing. These parents believe that the education system provided by their local schools is unsatisfactory compared to what they could do at home. Home schooling has become more common in the past thirty years and has even started a trend throughout the states. An estimation of a 235,000 335,000 increase of the number of home schooled children within twenty years was reported by the U.S. Department of Education. Since then, that number grown to an astonishing number of 1.7 million, and should continue to grow at a rate of 15 percent a year. These numbers are considered low because it is not necessary in all states to notify the Department of Education when parents decide to home school their children. Activists such as David Gutterson explain home schooling as the attempt to receive an education at a place other than an institution. Children who are home schooled spend most of a normal school day learning in the environment of their homes. Unlike traditional schools, home schooled children s parents are their teachers, which allows for variances in curriculum programs. Some parents choose to follow a more traditional curriculum while others allow their students (children) to learn about ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The organization that represent the face of Newark s environment is called, Ironbound Community Corporation (ICC) but the team that specialize with this particular social issue is the Environmental Justice . Ironbound is in the East Ward of Newark but is considered the most contaminated section in comparison to the rest of Newark. Emily Turonis was the young lady who I had the privilege to interview and really find out about Newark and what has the Environmental Justice team have done to improve the living circumstances of Ironbound. The Ironbound has been a home to many industrial and residential communities where factories operate right next to homes, schools, and playgrounds. The East Ward is surrounded by the airport, the highways, the railroads, and the Passaic River. Having all these deserted lots, forgotten factories, neglected junk, all this takes a toll on the air, water, and land of Newark. The federal government eventually declared this pool closed down in 1987. Same thing happened in the mid 2000 s, when the Ironbound opened an outdoors pool on the corner of Ferry St. and Waydell St. and a couple of years later they had to closed it down due to the high levels of dioxin. • 9. The Tragedy Of Vladimir Lenin And The Rise Of Joseph Stalin Some of the most tragic moments in Russian history occurred during the tumultuous period between the death of Vladimir Lenin and the rise of Joseph Stalin during the 1930s. This was a time of massive devastation during which almost 5 million peasants died of starvation due to the failures of collective farming. Thousands of men and women were also falsely accused of anti patriotism and sent to Siberian labor camps in which they experienced rampant disease, physical and emotional abuse, and often execution. Vasily Grossman endeavors to discern who is to blame for these injustices through his novel Everything Flows . Grossman s main character, Ivan, has just been released from almost a thirty year imprisonment following the death of Stalin. Through Ivan s recollections of camp life and assimilation into Post Stalinist Russia, Grossman reveals the forces he believes are at fault. However, his understanding of this guilt is far more complex as revealed through the means by which he evaluates the culpable factors. Grossman uses a method of assessment similar to a bottom up analysis by beginning with the individual elements of the Communist Party and progressing to a larger holistic view of Russian civilization. This method allows for multiple factors to bear some of the blame without undue bias holding one entirely accountable. Thus, Grossman is arguing that the slave identity embedded in Russian history was responsible for the development of certain characteristics in Lenin s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It examines the contribution of the monument to the development of architecture and how it conforms to the architect s style. It further examines what influenced Brunelleschi s goal of creating a centralized effect to his structures. About Brunelleschi s Pazzi Chapel In 1419 Brunelleschi was charged with the task of having to complete the dome for the chapel located in Florence, Italy. The task occupied a significant part of Brunelleschi s life as it came with enormous challenges because no dome of the kind had ever been put up since time immemorial (Kleiner). Besides becoming an architectural problem, the dome astute engineering skill and Brunelleschi invented and patented hoisting machines that could be used for undertaking the requisite masonry for the dome. Brunelleschi s monument has a significant place in the development of architecture. First, the elders of Florence had forbidden the construction of structures with buttresses. This provided an industrial challenge as engineers and architects were baffling over the way structures could stand without buttresses (Kleiner). Brunelleschi s dome had a base tensioned by the use of horizontal chains of wood and iron. This cured the problem and many architects have referred to this technology in their designs. Secondly, earlier designs close to that of Brunelleschi s had failed to pick up because there were no hoisting machines that could be used to undertake the masonry. The discovery and patenting of the hoisting machines helped solve the puzzle and, to date, all means of hoisting have come up through cranes of all types (Kleiner). All these means of hoisting owe their success to Brunelleschi s discovery during the construction of the dome at Florence ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What performance an employee is being compensated for is just as important as (if not more important than) the fact the he is being compensated for performance. If an employee is being compensated for sales he makes, he may find himself cutting corners or ignoring rules to make sales that he ought not to make. Ho et al use Sears as an example of this phenomenon. In 1992, Sears ended a policy of performance based compensation that had failed miserably, because auto repair salespeople had performed $15 million dollars of unnecessary services for which Sears was ultimately forced to refund payment, or pay other settlement costs. The issue was that Sears was paying their salespeople based on the number of sales they made, thus giving them a motivation to perform unnecessary services, despite the fact that this would cause the company in incur long run costs. Thus, performance based pay is not necessarily a good thing, especially if it is linked to an aspect of performance that may not directly relate to overall company performance. One might try to learn a lesson from this example and determine that employees should ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The two story khaki colored building resembled the barracks at the Security Police School at Lackland. The building itself provided a sense of familiarity, which helped ease some of my anxiety and uncertainty. Sgt. Billingsly escorted me into the Dorm Managers office where I presented my military orders to Staff Sargent Kingsley, the manager in charge of maintaining order in the barracks. He was also charged with ensuring that the rules were followed with regards to maintenance and visitors. He had dark brown hair, and by the looks of him, he spent hours in the gym lifting. I had lots of questions and of course, my curiosity had been sparked since my talk with Gene. I got dressed and headed to the snack bar to find Billingsly. There was a classic 1970 s jukebox along the right wall and a pool table in the middle of the room. Aside from Billingsly, who was talking to someone, the place appeared deserted. Billingsly introduced me to an Airman Tom Simpson from Huntington, West Virginia. Airman Simpson was about twenty and was shorter than me with a little more bulk. Despite the common misconception that the men of West Virginia were isolated rough and rugged mountain boys, Simpson was charismatic and outgoing. Billingsly also introduced me to the snack bar attendant and told her it is my first day on the island. She greeted me with a warm smile and welcomed me to the PI. Billingsly and Simpson work together on day flight so Billingsly asked Simpson if he wanted to go on my base tour followed by a downtown excursion. Simpson perked up as soon as he heard downtown and almost knocked us down heading for the door. As we left the barracks parking lot, I was overwhelmed by the sheer size and lack of perimeter fence to keep unauthorized personnel from entering the base. That explained the considerable need for the 3rd Security Police Group. Billingsly explained that the perimeter of the base totaled approximately 27 miles, but only about 10 miles of the perimeter fence line was still intact. Over the years, it collapsed ... • 13. Persuasive Essay On Teen Mom My 16 year old daughter Kathryn sits me down on the living room couch and somberly announces, Dad, I have something to tell you. Outside in our sleepy town of Dunwoody, Georgia, five inches of rain pour down on our streets. The public school system has decided to cancel the day s classes. My wife Bonnie just dialed me and told me she d be home in about an hour. Lucky for me, it s my day off from work, so I enjoy a few hours watching TV and channel surfing. Two hours into my endless search for a show to watch, Teen Mom, one of my daughter s favorite programs, pops up on the screen. I haven t told my only daughter what I truly think about Teen Mom yet because I don t want to hurt her typical adolescent feelings. But I believe she should stop watching the series because it casts these young women in a negative light. Once I see two cast members throwing punches, I immediately press a couple of digit buttons on my remote to switch the channel to a local news station. The latest story focuses on an upcoming Madonna concert in Atlanta, where she will perform some of her biggest hits. This time last year, my daughter stated she d begun dating a boy from school of whom I m not too fond. He s one of those rebellious kids with whom no parent wants their daughter to begin a relationship. Additionally, he has a history of abusing drugs and alcohol. Also, when the two first met, she was only 15 years old and he was 18. Their romance is technically illegal in the state despite their simultaneous high school attendance. Now I imagine she d blurt out the news any father would dread. Wait, what? I would raise my voice, then bury my head in my hands. Yeah, she d continue as raindrops would start to cover her cheeks, and I m keeping the baby. Of course you are, I would warn her. You re not getting an abortion. At this moment, I d echo the same five words my father told Bonnie and I when we gave birth to Kathryn at...yes, 16. We ve worked so hard to help Kathryn avoid making the same mistake we made. In today`s global environment, differentiation, low cost leadership, and responsiveness are among three major characteristics of an organisation that aims to achieve a competitive advantage over its competitors. Organisations also endeavour to reduce lead time and their direct and indirect costs, increase return on investment as well as customer satisfaction, improve quality and reliability of their products. However they also need to consider social, environmental and ethical concerns and establish a company mission and vision in such a way that mitigate these concerns while achieving a competitive advantage. Strategies through achieving a competitive advantage resulted in the existence of the terms `Globalisation` and supply chain management (SCM). Because in today`s emerging and industrialized environment companies seek to achieve competitive advantages and are no longer competing with their own expertise but with the talent in their entire global supply chain. [1] Another reason why the importance of SCM has been highlighted is that most of the companies need other manufacturers or companies from which they can supply raw materials, sub assemblies and components, finished goods, or equipment in order to keep their production in working order, achieve their business objectives and goals and customer satisfaction, and meet customers` rapidly changing requirements at right time, cost and quality. Esters Lab Flavor Lab Leslie Perez FST 426L.1 Purpose The objective of this experiment is to prepare and identify several types of esters by the process of dehydration synthesis using an alcohol with an acid. Introduction The process by which esters are formed is a reversible reaction called esterification. They are formed when alcohols react with carboxylic acids in the presence of hydrochloric acid or sulfuric acid. This reaction is known as a condensation reaction. In the reaction above, the hydroxyl group ( OH) in the carboxylic acid is replaced by the alkoxy group ( R*O) of the alcohol yielding an ester and water. Esters are used as constituents of perfumes, cosmetics, and surfactants, just to mention a few examples. In addition to this they are used in the food industry for flavoring of sweet and margarine. In the article, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Table 1 shows the different alcohols and acids used for the production of esters. The name of the esters is shown in the last column of this table as well as how the team member identified the odors of the ester produced. Table 2 shows the results for all 5 groups in the class. Most of the esters produced in this laboratory experiment were easily identified as specific fragances such as banana, wintergreen, and menthol. It is shown in the table, that banana was the most identified one followed by tube M and tube A. The rest of the esters, E and B, had more variability in the identification of esters while C was identified as mouthwash, which can be associated to the menthol flavor and odor. Ester in tube B was the hardest to be identified according to Table 2, since it had 4 different associated smells to it. Some even included keeps, turrets with small, high windows (which provided protection for archers), and a moat or trench of water to deter invaders. Though expressed in different ways and structures, it was and still is part of human civilizations today. However, within the establishments of power, many conflicts arise for both those in power and those governed by the rulers, such as problems over the selection of new authority figures and the retainment of their power. This conflict can be recognized from the ruling of Qin Shi Huangin China in the mid 200s BC. He is well known for uniting the Chinese states during the Warring States Period, in which the country was broken up into states that were in a war for dominance (Mark). Shi Huang ultimately founded the Qin Dynasty and worked to improve humanity by helping construct the Great Wall for defense and the Lingqu Canal for commerce (Mark). The personality kept under locks is the one that is referred to as Betty the club worker, possibly prostitute. The choice of the name Betty as Maria s stage name probably wasn t at random. In the late 1920 s into the 1930 s Betty Boop was created to represent flapper girls. Flappers were young girls who had yet to enter womanhood. They embraced their free spirit and had many uncontrolled acts of fun with treating sex as something casual. After Maria and Jim have sex and after she is caught by her fiancГ© she just lays there totally emotionless. The emotionless face she give could be a sign of the fact the sex didn t mean anything. • 32. How Does Skin-Tone Crayons Make A Negative Aspect Of... The content on children s programming on public television greatly impacts cultural sensitivity. The amount of diversity we have in the United States causes us to have cultural sensitivity on our public programs which could be positive or negative. Having cultural sensitivity on public programming can help people acknowledge and accept other ethnicities but, a negative aspect of cultural sensitivity is over accommodating toward people of these other ethnicities and acting different toward them. Racial and cultural awareness starts when children are infants and toddlers. At that age, children learn what is me and what is not me (Biles, Barbara). After a workshop session on cultural awareness, I was asked, Does this really matter? Will adding skin tone crayons make a difference in children s lives? Yes, I said, skin tone crayons help a child become aware of who he is and who others are (Biles, Barbara). The small changes like this will help kids develop positive feelings about their racial and cultural identity (Biles, Barbara). Children need to be enlightened to cultural awareness at an early... At some point in a child s life, their parent needs to talk to them about discrimination and racism. But, parents also feel uncomfortable talking to their children about cultural diversity. For example, if a child sees someone who is Asian in a grocery store and asked why they look different then he or she does, the parent of the child will tell the child to stop talking or stop staring. Lead them down the surely green path. They seem to take good care of their flock, however, something seems wrong, especially if they are leading their sheep into oblivion. Cesar Freire s Pedagogy Of The Oppressed Paulo Freire s Pedagogy of the Oppressed presents two distinct educational methods and asserts that problem posing education, rather than the banking method, is what is necessary for humanity. This particular excerpt of Pedagogy of the Oppressed encapsulates a vast scope of education. It begins with an exposition, revealing what exactly banking method is, followed by the explanation of problem posing education. Throughout the duration of the chapter, Freire passionately presents his ideals about education through the scopes of these two educational styles. Pedagogy of the Oppressed starts off with an explanation that the focus of his analysis is the relationship between teachers and students. First, Freire believes that the majority of teachers today talk about reality as if it were motionless, static, compartmentalized, and predictable (Paolo Freire). He uses lucidly negative diction like hollow and alienating to describe the words these teachers speak, emphasizing that this clearly isn t enough when it comes to educating students Freire goes on to call this particular type of educating narrative education (Freire). Narrative education is where teachers act as the omnipotent being. Students are merely taught everything as if it were objectively the same as any other fact, and not taught the significance. Teachers do not learn anything from the students, either. Narrative education is a one way street. An aspect of narrative education is the polarizing idea of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay On Surface Hardness Of Cang Surface Hardening of Cams for Venture Consulting Introduction Dean and Triana s invention is running into trouble when it is used continuously for long periods of time because the cams are too soft, resulting in wear and misalignment in the invention. They already have all of the cams, so switching materials is not an option, so we must find a way to harden the surface of the cams to reduce wear. The cams are made of 1020 steel, which has a hardness of 111 HB, and only has 0.20% carbon, classifying it as a low carbon steel. For this reason we recommend that carburization be utilized to increase the carbon composition at the surface, and thus increase the surface hardness. This occurs because the presence of carbon interstitially diffused ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Interstitial diffusion is the specific type of diffusion that will be going on. Interstitial diffusion typically involves one substance with much smaller atoms than the substance it is moving into, and the small atoms will move in between larger atoms in the lattice structure. We know that the radius of Carbon is 67 pm or 67*10 12 m and the radius of radius of Iron is 156 pm or 156*10 12 m. Carbon atoms are 89 picometers smaller in radius than Iron atoms. Carbon atoms are considerably smaller than Iron atoms as they are smaller than half the size of iron atoms. Because of the small size of carbon, it will enter the iron crystal structure through interstitial diffusion. The Governing Equation for this diffusion is (C Co)/(Cs Co)=1 erf[ x/(2*(Dt)1/2)] . Background and purpose: To quantify the 4 week incidence, timing and predictors of ischemic stroke after trauma in a population based young cohort. Methods: We electronically identified trauma patients ( 30 days apart could be considered independent. As a secondary analysis, we calculated stroke incidence including all cases with a stroke ICD 9 code in order to provide a useful comparison with studies using ICD 9 stroke diagnoses for the outcome. For trauma patients who suffered a stroke, we graphically demonstrated time to stroke after trauma using Kaplan Meier failure curves, with trauma as the time of origin and stroke as the failure event, right censoring at death or four weeks after trauma. For the case control study, we used logistic regression to calculate odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) as an estimate of stroke risk. In order to determine whether stroke risk varied differentially by location of injury, we first examined each location individually. We then modeled the association between stroke and each injury location with adjustment for age, race, sex and multisystem trauma (given that the composite multisystem trauma variable does not specify injury location). Results: From a population of 34 million enrolled in KPNC over the 15 year study period, we identified 989,333 patients who had 1,308,009 emergency department encounters or admissions to the hospital for trauma.
