presentat ions under the scope of our 
campaign – Library is your Learning 
Part ner for Life. 
Story of Cree Place Names on 
October 8 
Mr. Bruce Cutknife conducted a 
presentat ion about the story of Cree 
Place names. His presentat ion 
included t ravelling across the world 
of indigenous communit ies climbing 
mountains and enjoying the breeze 
at rivers. 45 student s from UCEP, ABE, 
and literacy program at tended this 
presentat ion. 
Statistics Canada presentation 
on October 10 
Ms. Connie LeGrande presented the 
Aboriginal People's Survey and 
navigat ing Statistics Canada on 
October 10, 2014 to the Computer 
Studies 203 and Sociology 2560 
classes. 
D.Yun’s st udent s list ened t o t he guest 
lecture. Scheduled the first quiz on 
October 17th and sent a note to his 
st udent s, “The content presented by 
this week's guest may feature in a 
quiz (5%).” 
Computer studies inst ructor Tom 
Crier designed Excel and PowerPoint 
assignment s requiring student s to use 
the educat ion and age data 
presented by guest lecturer.

Learning Partner for Life 
campaign 
We launched a learning partner 
campaign. 
Veronica learned at the library 
about FASD and neurological 
development and 6 to 13 years is a 
crucial period for relat ionship 
development between FASD. 
Lorne Green conducted research 
and wrote his annotated 
bibliography using the computers at 
the library on October 21. Please 
bring t ime along with you when you 
come to the library just like Lorne did. 
He is more confident in his research 
and digital literacy skills.

content creation partnership on 
a novel 
Class: Cree studies 1102. 
Novel: Keeper’n Me by Richard Wagamese 
Oct 8: Groups formed 
Oct 15: Script writing in class 
Oct 22: Script recording using webcam 
on laptop as part of midterm and 
written script submitted. This was a trial. 
Oct 29: Meet & Greet filmmakers, film 
making workshop, scriptwriting, and 
screening. 
Presentation about storytelling and a 
discussion with the students about the 
script work and filming they have 
already been doing as an introduction. 
We built with this framework and worked 
through the filmmaking process. The 
class ended with the screening of films 
in the computer lab and a history of 
Maskwacis Cree by Bruce Cutknife. 
Journalist Amelia from Ponoka News did 
a 30 minute presentation about script 
writing. Bruce Cutknife guided us in this
Library is your learning partner for life. 3 
process with technical expertise and 
indigenous context.

Kalin Jensen from the NAIT Library in 
Edmonton showed us how their library is 
using Google Analytics to better 
understand how users are using their 
library website. She demonstrated how 
Analytics has informed some changes 
on their website and how the 
subsequent changes have impacted its 
usability. 
Wilda Listener and Inez Lightning 
attended a training session. 
We also learned about editing 
Wikispaces and Dropbox to collaborate. 
Open Access Week, October 
20-26

A global event now entering its eighth 
year, is an opportunity for the academic 
and research community to continue to 
learn about the potential benefits of 
Open Access, to share w hat they’ve 
learned with colleagues, and to help 
inspire wider participation in helping to 
make Open Access a new norm in 
scholarship and research. 
“Open Access” to information – the 
free, immediate, online access to the 
results of scholarly research, and the 
right to use and re-use those results as 
you need – has the power to transform 
the way research and scientific inquiry 
are conducted. I t has direct and 
widespread implications for academia, 
medicine, science, industry, and for 
society as a whole. 
MCC library created awareness about 
Open Educational Resources (OER), 
planning to publish a research journal in 
2015, learned about open access 
repositories, and is planning to deliver
Library is your learning partner for life. 4 
‘Are you ready for online learning using 
open access resources?’ 
Library also emailed open access 
research documents to faculty. 
Supporting literacy programs 
and service providers in the 
community 
Grace and Jason brought their students 
to the library on October 27. We started 
a read aloud sharing circle by reading 
the small book UN’s Charter of 
Indigenous Rights. We used the viewing 
station to learn about words such as 
rapporteur.

  • 1. Library is your learning partner for life. 1 Library services October 2014 Oct ober is celebrat ed as ‘Libraries I nspire’ mont h. We hosted a series of presentat ions under the scope of our campaign – Library is your Learning Part ner for Life. Story of Cree Place Names on October 8 Mr. Bruce Cutknife conducted a presentat ion about the story of Cree Place names. His presentat ion included t ravelling across the world of indigenous communit ies climbing mountains and enjoying the breeze at rivers. 45 student s from UCEP, ABE, and literacy program at tended this presentat ion. Statistics Canada presentation on October 10 Ms. Connie LeGrande presented the Aboriginal People's Survey and navigat ing Statistics Canada on October 10, 2014 to the Computer Studies 203 and Sociology 2560 classes. D.Yun’s st udent s list ened t o t he guest lecture. Scheduled the first quiz on October 17th and sent a note to his st udent s, “The content presented by this week's guest may feature in a quiz (5%).” Computer studies inst ructor Tom Crier designed Excel and PowerPoint assignment s requiring student s to use the educat ion and age data presented by guest lecturer.   • 2. Library is your learning partner for life. 2 Learning Partner for Life campaign We launched a learning partner campaign. Veronica learned at the library about FASD and neurological development and 6 to 13 years is a crucial period for relat ionship development between FASD. Lorne Green conducted research and wrote his annotated bibliography using the computers at the library on October 21. Please bring t ime along with you when you come to the library just like Lorne did. He is more confident in his research and digital literacy skills. Instructor Library multimedia content creation partnership on a novel Class: Cree studies 1102. Novel: Keeper’n Me by Richard Wagamese Oct 8: Groups formed Oct 15: Script writing in class Oct 22: Script recording using webcam on laptop as part of midterm and written script submitted. This was a trial. Oct 29: Meet & Greet filmmakers, film making workshop, scriptwriting, and screening. Presentation about storytelling and a discussion with the students about the script work and filming they have already been doing as an introduction. We built with this framework and worked through the filmmaking process. The class ended with the screening of films in the computer lab and a history of Maskwacis Cree by Bruce Cutknife. Journalist Amelia from Ponoka News did a 30 minute presentation about script writing. Bruce Cutknife guided us in this

Library is your learning partner for life. 3 process with technical expertise and indigenous context. 10 am Tuesdays Technology @ MCC October 28, 10 am Kalin Jensen from the NAIT Library in Edmonton showed us how their library is using Google Analytics to better understand how users are using their library website. She demonstrated how Analytics has informed some changes on their website and how the subsequent changes have impacted its usability. Wilda Listener and Inez Lightning attended a training session. We also learned about editing Wikispaces and Dropbox to collaborate. Open Access Week, October 20-26 http://www.openaccessweek.org A global event now entering its eighth year, is an opportunity for the academic and research community to continue to learn about the potential benefits of Open Access, to share w hat they’ve learned with colleagues, and to help inspire wider participation in helping to make Open Access a new norm in scholarship and research. “Open Access” to information – the free, immediate, online access to the results of scholarly research, and the right to use and re-use those results as you need – has the power to transform the way research and scientific inquiry are conducted. I t has direct and widespread implications for academia, medicine, science, industry, and for society as a whole. MCC library created awareness about Open Educational Resources (OER), planning to publish a research journal in 2015, learned about open access repositories, and is planning to deliver
  • 4. Library is your learning partner for life. 4 ‘Are you ready for online learning using open access resources?’ Library also emailed open access research documents to faculty. Supporting literacy programs and service providers in the community Grace and Jason brought their students to the library on October 27. We started a read aloud sharing circle by reading the small book UN’s Charter of Indigenous Rights. We used the viewing station to learn about words such as rapporteur.
