This report summarizes the activities and changes at the Monument Mountain Regional High School library in the 2010-2011 school year. Key events included rebranding the library as an information center, implementing a new flexible floor plan, and acquiring new technologies like laptops, monitors, and cameras. Library usage increased, especially in March when no vacations occurred. The English and social studies departments were biggest users. Over 400 new books were added to the collection. Programs like chess tournaments, arts forums, and book clubs were very popular. Goals for next year include finalizing the library webpage and catalog, continuing reading initiatives, and building collaborative lessons between teachers and the library.

2. A Year of Change This was a year of change in the library, and rebranding the facility as the information center of the school. New flexible floor plan instituted along with new shelving. Many new technologies brought into the library. Most importantly, more students accessed the library.

7. Library Usage Analysis March was by the far biggest month in terms of students in the library. This is a result most likely of there being no vacations that month and it being the end of third quarter. The number of classes served is around the same as last year (357 in 2011, 344 in 2010). However, the new floor plan allows the library to be open to other students when a class is in. Thus, an increase in the number of students using the library. The English and Social Studies departments are the biggest users of the library.

11. Book Acquisitions 444 Books were added to the collection this year. There are about 150 more books to be cataloged and added to the collection, but running the library solo has left little time for cataloging. Eric Wilska at The Bookloft was incredibly generous and donated many new titles to the library throughout the year. It has created a wonderful community partnership.

Electronic Resources Huge changes in the library technologically: 2 New Macbooks added for video editing, both loaded with iMovie, one with Final Cut Pro 10 new flat screen monitors for the desktops 8 new laptops 50” flat screen TV added for running announcements 4 cameras purchased (3 Flip, 1 Sanyo) 3 Kindles added to the collection

18. Grants and Budget Much of the technology was purchased through grants and endowments. New monitors for desktops: The Student Senate Tag Sale Fund Flat screen TV: Donated by a family Macbooks, Video Editing software, and Kindles: endowed by Lisa Baldwin and the Kapteyn Fund Flip video cameras came out of the library budget

26. Professional Development The library hosted a series of mini-workshops on ways to integrate technology and library resources into the curriculum. 27. Goals for 2011-2012 With the coming of student wireless access, I need to be able to have the library be on their computers. This means: Finalize the library webpage Upgrade to a web-based catalog such as Follett Destiny Continue to build a culture of reading at Monument through the faculty and student book clubs Build collaborative lessons with teachers on research and information literacy skills, making the library not just a place for classes to come to use the computers but also a place for instruction. This requires coming up with a better “classroom” space within the library. That space is currently right by the main entrance to the library and it can be disruptive with people coming and going.
