The Urban Atlas project provides high resolution land cover/land use maps for 305 major European urban areas based on satellite imagery from 2006. The maps classify land use into detailed thematic classes using a combination of automatic classification and photo interpretation. The freely available georeferenced layers can be used as input for modeling urban vulnerabilities and indicators related to topics like urban form, land use changes, green space accessibility, and population distribution. Future plans include repeating the Urban Atlas using 2011 imagery to analyze land use changes over time.
