plan4all

Digital land use data and spatial planning data standardized according to INSPIRE can significantly contribute to sustainable land development, environmental protection, efficient resource management, and prevention of biodiversity loss. In France, a prototype was created to transform land use and spatial planning data into INSPIRE compliant formats using XML and web services. While progress has been made, fully implementing INSPIRE across all local governments in France remains a challenge.

  1. The e-content+ funded Plan4all project demonstrated the diverse situation in the member states and managed to demonstrate the feasibility of a land planning SDI. The paper will draw some lessons learnt from the project findings regarding the technological possibilities and the organisational barriers of building a land planning SDI in Europe Through example of use cases, the paper will present also how digital land use data will contribute to the environment protection and biodiversity loss prevention, to the development of eEnvironment services and to applications that can help people integrate in the communities where they live.
