Decision Making In Robert Frost s The Road Not Taken
In Robert Frost s The Road Not Taken , we are constantly pounded with with the idea of making
choices. But what about choices does Frost want us to realize? After closely reading and analyzing
this piece of literature I think it s clear that Frost wants his readers to be more self dependant when
it comes to decision making. Taking the roadless traveled by is how Frost illustrates this and as we
break down this piece of literature you will see that Frost makes his message very clear in his
poem. In the first stanza and line of the poem Frost immediately has exposed to us the choiceat
hand. Two roads diverged in a yellow wood. (Frost, #1). So we see this picture of two paths split
into seperate ways. Choosing which path to take is a very difficult decision for the traveler. He
says he s sorry he could not travel both (Frost, #2) making it clear that there is this dilemma for
our protagonist on choosing which way to go. In lines three and four the traveler says long I
stood/And looked down one as far as I could. (Frost, #3 4) Frost perfectly paints this picture of
the traveler standing there arms crossed, looking down each path, and on his tippy toes trying to
get the best look possible at both paths ahead of him. In the second stanza the traveler finally
makes a decision and takes the other path. This is where the tone changes in the poem and we
finally have this feeling that the traveler made the right decision. And having perhaps the better
claim,/Because it was

Catastrophes and Stress
Ailen Fernandez PSY 102 April 21, 2013 Jones, Jennifer Catastrophes and Stress American
Leader Martin Luther King Jr. once said, An individual has not started living until he can rise
above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity
(Martin). Luther King believed that in order for us humans to have a meaningful live we must put
aside our personal problems and care about the problems of humanity as a whole. The earthquake
of Oakland, California in 1989 is a true example of this quote. As the sirens of ambulances roared
through the abolished city thousands of civilians gathered together, taking risks, to help those that

Although the Kelly s admit to survivors guilt based on their own footage it seems like they
could have done more to prevent the tragedy that happen when the other car dumped into the
whole. The only thing that Debbie and Thomas Kelly did to warn upcoming light was to put on
their flashing light. Debbie took out her recording camera and started to record the gap between
the highway, meantime a car was coming and didn t see the gap crashed in it. Instead of
recording Debbie and Thomas should have tried to grab the attention of the drivers so that they
wouldn t have fallen through the road gap. They now experience survivors guilt because they
survived not crashing into the road gap when the others did (Amaldo, 2004). Survivors guilt has
been studied in many situations because it is a psychological disorder that affects individuals that
have survived a scarring catastrophe. The Holocaust is one of these catastrophes that have left
survivors with a sense of guilt. A study done by Gertrude Schneider upon 50 Holocaust survivors
demonstrated that some but not all had a sense of survivors guilt (Schneider, 1975). Fourteen of the
interviewed victims admitted that they felt bad for being passive victims and that they would have
preferred to have died honorably (Schneider, 1975). Others said that there was no way that they
could have fought back and prevent them from going through that horrible experience of being in
the camps (Schneider, 1975).

Roseville Hazard Mitigation Case Study
Sudden onset of natural disasters disrupts daily life and, in the worst cases, causes devastation.
Disasters are occurring at a rate many people cannot absorb psychologically and financially.
Therefore, affecting people s decisions to move away from disaster prone areas, mainly if they
were displaced, lost their possessions, or had a traumatic experience. To help alleviate some of
these effects, FEMA has not only developed mitigation planning guides for local governments to
adopt as a guide but also serves a starting point for reducing such disasters. (Federal Emergency
ManagementAgency, 2003). Political leaders, influential residents, fire department, police

All new buildings and developments undergoing major improvements must be elevated to or above
the 100 year flood level, and new developments within portions of the floodplain must not increase
flood problems or damage other properties (Schwab, 2010). Also, local officials created a detailed,
comprehensive plan that integrates mitigation planning and action framework, unlike other local
hazard mitigation plans. The essential difference amongst Roseville plans and other cities is that
Roseville has well exceeded the minimum disaster mitigation act of 2000 requirements for citizen
involvement by formulating the Roseville Hazard Mitigation Plan through a variety of robust
outreach measures. (Schwab, 2010). The local government s strong mitigation action and leadership

Argumentative Essay About Gay Adoption
Corri Fairfull
Discursive Essay Gay Adoption
Gay adoption is a subject which is widely debated. However over recent years gay adoption has
allowed for most gay couples who want to adopt young children and give them a good quality of
life, which they would have if they lived with their biological parents or a heterosexual couple, to
do so.
One positive view of gay adoption is that it gives the gay couple the chance to start their own family
and give a child in care a new start to life in a loving home. This will allow the couple to love and
care for the child just as much as they would if the child was living with their own biological
parents. Gay couples who want to adopt a child will give the same loving family home just like a
heterosexual couple or single parent would. For some children, living with a gay couple may be
something they haven t experienced before. However finding a family who love the child and
appreciate them for who they are, also encouraging them with all aspects of their life and supporting
them all the way through their life is what matters most to children.
Another positive view about gay adoption is that it means a child in care will receive the
opportunity to get the benefit of new parents who are going to give them the best possible life
with parents who are healthy, in a stable relationship and have a good financial support system in
place. Since there are many children up for adoption, gay couples often adopt children who are
older as babies

Organized Crime Definition
It is very difficult to give one unified definition for the term Organized Crime . Similarly it is very
difficult to give one concise definition for the term Organized Crime Groups . The conventional
definitions of the organized crime does not provide us with any single definition for such groups
but provides us with certain characteristics that are most commonly found in the criminal groups
also used synonymously with the criminal enterprises. The FBI defines a criminal group or a
criminal enterprise as a group of individuals with an identified hierarchy, or comparable structure,
engaged in significant criminal activity. These organizations often engage in multiple criminal
activities and have extensive supporting networks ( Organized Crimen.d.)

The group exists for a period of time and finds its roots deep inside the system by making
contacts. These groups aim to commit at least on crime punishable by at least four years
incarceration ( Organized Crime n.d.). The main goal of the group is to produce illegal profit.
Most of these groups have their terms with the influential individuals in the government or
society in order to obtain immunity from the investigation or any kind of arrest. The
organizations can have a centralized leadership or a decentralized one in the form of a
committee. The rules that these groups follow are very adaptive and flexible. For example, the
productivity of the illegal drugs can be increased with the increase in the demand of the illegal
goods. Similarly the number of employs might also be increased or decreased accordingly.
Another very important characteristic of such organizations is that they often invest their money
in the legal kinds of businesses as well. These businesses provide them with an alibi as well as a
cover up for all the kinds of illegal crimes that they commit. The most common kinds of criminal
activities that these organized groups are involved in are bribery, mail fraud, drug

Urban Agriculture In Cuba Essay
Sustainability and Security with Urban Agriculture in Cuba Many people know Cuba for its
cigars and rum, both products made from the two major agricultural products grown on the
island, but Cuba has made headlines for something different in the past decade: urban
agriculture. Before the Soviet Bloc collapse in 1989, the bloc accounted for eighty five percent
of Cuba s trade, and with its collapse, Cuban imports dropped by seventy five percent... (Altieri

percent after the collapse causing Cubans to reassess farming techniques. Officially called the

Finally, empresas estatales are large farms run as state enterprises, many with increasing
decentralization, autonomy, and degrees of profit sharing with workers (Warwick). Since urban
agriculture began in Cuba, a Spanish speaking country, most of the terms are in Spanish without
English translations as the practice is still becoming popular in English speaking countries.
Before the Special Period, Cuban agriculture relied heavily on chemical pesticides and fertilizers
to tend to the monoculture, mega farms that only focused heavily exports; however, during the
Special Period, farming techniques shifted to a more sustainable and local production. During
the Revolution, ...pesticide use increased fourfold. By 1989, [the year of the Soviet Bloc

herbicides were being applied to approximately one third of the country s cultivated land (Gonzalez

to any changes in trade relations with the Soviet Bloc. Consequently, when the collapse occurred in
1989, Cuba had to find new ways to control pests, and the solution contained multiple parts. In the

One Survivor Remembers Film Analysis
In the movie One Survivor Remembers narrated by Gerda Weissmann there are various scenes
that are very powerful. One of many scenes that I feel was the most powerful to me was when
Geirda explained to us how she left her mother. I m not that certain as how she told her story, but
I remember her saying it started with SS officers coming to her town and taking all the women in
cattle cars. Since Geirda was young they sent her with the other young girls of the town and
separated her from her mother since her mother was older of age. Her mother and her would then
be separated from each other and unfortunately never see each other again. She explains that when

A SS officer had to grab her and take her off from her mother. The SS officer had told her that she
was too young to die and for that reason she could not go with her mother. This scene was the
most powerful and tragic to me because I myself could not bare being apart form my mother in
such a time like back then. I possibly could just not imagine my life without my mother. My
mother is my all and everything. For that reason I believe that particular scene felt so powerful
specifically to me. This scene could offer various lessons or messages, but the one I think is the
biggest is to value and respect your parents because you never know if you will see them the
next day. The Nazis dehumanized Jews in many ways. One of the ways Jews were dehumanized
was by transporting them to places in cramped cattle cars like if they were some type of animals.

Should Prison Gangs Become More Prevalent Inside Our...
Prison gangs within the penal system are problematic and a multifaceted issue for several reasons.
One reason gangs are so problematic in the penal system is due to the threat they impose on others,
including other types of gang bangers, non gang affiliated inmates, correctional staff, prison
administration, and the overall security of the facility itself. According to research, A composite
measure of gangmisconduct represents the threat that particular gangs pose to prison order
(Gaes, Wallace, Gilman, Saffron, Suppa, 2002). In fact, There is little doubt that prison gangs
are the source of considerable misconduct and present serious challenges to the management of
prisons, which is why numerous strategies have been employed to control and suppress gang
activity (Pyrooz Mitchell, 2015). Why are prison gangs becoming more prevalent inside our
nation s prison system? Since the 1950s, prison gangs have developed in American prisons more
rapidly than in the previous years. Correction staff recognizes some prison gangs as being a
security threat group or STG. A security threat group is a term for prison gangs that describes how
they negatively impact the security of prison operations (Smallagher Smykla, 2015). Gangs have
increased in size and popularity with the penal system because of desegregation with the facilities.
After desegregation happened in the 1960s, inmates regarded desegregation as a need to join
together racially, especially as a means of

A Look At Israel s Economy
Countries since the beginning of time have traded, competed, and influenced the world economy.
A country s political views, religious views, and culture all play an important role in how the
country conducts business in the global market. They also play a role in how a specific country
makes economic decisions as well as the result of those decisions and how it transitions to the
world market. It is extremely important to understand the role of each country and how it conducts
business in the global economy. The main focus of this essay is to take an indepth look at Israels

The dinosaur group named the theropods shook the Earth at one point in time. This group, which

Religion and Science in the Classroom Essay
Science, in Albert Einstein s words, describes what is. Such a description consists of certain laws of
nature, which summarize observed patterns, and theories (Peshkin 46). Science and religion are the
main components of the ongoing national debate about the teaching of evolution in our public
schools (Peshkin 46).Various religions reject or ignore the contributions of science, arguing that
science displaces God, questions religious belief, and degrades morality (Molloy 547). Others
disagree, appreciating science and the important information that has broadened our knowledge by
providing explanations for natural phenomenon, and continuously enriching our lives. In some

If public school teachers want to inform students about creationism, they should do so in a religion
class, not a science class.
Intelligent design or Creationism, as typically viewed on by its American advocates, draws on a
literal interpretation of the Judeo Christian tradition that the world is no more than 6,000 years
old and that all species of life on the planet were created over a period of 6 days by a
monotheistic deity (Overton 934). In contrast, evolutionary theory maintains that biological life
originated by way of a natural selection process over billions of years (Morris 78).The concept of
evolution, since its inception as a scientific theory through publication of Charles Darwin s Origin
of Species in 1859, has faced religious opposition (Verma 206). Intelligent Design has been
gaining acceptance in the United States. According to a series of polls, conducted during the last
25 years, about 50% Americans believe in the original form of Creationism (Lewontin, 2005).
Former President Bush agreed to teaching evolution and intelligent design side by side in science
classes (Dawkins Coyne, 2005). A school board in Dover, Pennsylvania voted against introduction
of intelligent design as an alternative to evolution in biology classes (Goodstein, 2005). In Kansas
the school board accepted intelligent design as part of the curriculum alongside evolution (Wilgoren,

In contrast, the PRC, operating under a single party does not have the same incentives to bow to
popular political pressures. However, it was displayed clearly during the Global Financial Crisis
(GFC) and noted by (Curran and Von Acker 2010, 185) that in times of crisis the PRC will tend
to retreat from the privatisation of the economy for a significantly increased state intervention ,
including such measures as ordering the mainly state owned banks to cut the size of loans granted
to private enterprises (Wang and Iftikhar 2010). This kind of government control can have
negative impacts on business but are sometimes considered as an acceptable trade off, as in the
case of the compulsory minimum wages set and tightly controlled in the United states by the
federal government and set in the PRC by autonomous provinces and municipalities, which allows
for corruption and abuse by domestic and international business. While the Chinese market
promises cheap land and labour, it must be understood that recklessly abusing such activities will
tarnish that rare commodity that is brand image. For some, such as Hitachi the offer is simply too
tempting to refuse and they take advantage of what Barboza (2006) describes as the cheap land

Essay On Gilgamesh
There is debate to whether or not the 12th tablet of the Epic of Gilgamesh belongs to the original
story. Gilgamesh showcases many tropes that we see in classic epics and novels of heros. He was
a man without fear, without a challenge, and at the beginning of the story he is painted out to be
more of a villain than a hero. This was do to his unrest, he need someone who could challenge him;
this would allow him to go down the path path of a hero. Enkiduwas created by the gods to

In Tablet 7 (60 62) they talk about the underworld as Enkidu is passing into the afterlife. Despite
that the text doesn t really strike fear into the reader about the underworld. He is turned into a
dove and is taken to a house where the gods of the the underworld and afterlife reside. Fame is
glorified more in the first 11 tablets. So if it was presented the way it was in the 12th tablet it
would take away from that aspect. If I tell you what I saw of the ways of the Netherworld, O sit
you down and weep! (194). This line alone depicts the differences in viewpoints in the first 11
tablets when compared to the 12th tablet. Its depicting the netherworld as a hellish place and

and the second man has found no rest in the netherworld (195). This tablet tackles what happens to
these men of honor and fame and shows that regardless of what you do in the the human world, the

Nature And Culture, Humans And Non-Human Dualism
Nature and culture and humans and non human dualism are first and foremost produced by the
modern knowledge production and particularly echoed by the humanistic perspective where greater
focus and attention is given to the humans over other beings. This intentional and unintentional act
of duality created, I argue, has become immaterial with the appearance of the posthumanistic
perspective.
First and foremost, with the current development in the field of biotechnology, the increased
dependence on machines for various purposes, the multiplication of hybrid substances for diverse
purposes, coupled with many more happenings in the contemporary times suggest that our life is
interwoven with all manner of non humans and it will be impossible to uniquely separate humans
from non humans (Anderson, 2013). The two entities are inseparable and based on this premise of
inseparability between the humans and non humans, nature and culture, it suffices to say that,
though some of the arguments raised by the humanistic perspective are valid, the overarching
supremacy accorded to humans and its consciousness over other non humans are far fetched and
immaterial. As aptly put by Jones, and somewhat understandably, humans tend to think of
themselves and their societies as rather different to nature, and rather special (2009, p.7) in the face
of complement roles performed by both.
Secondly, the human and non human and nature culture dualism has become immaterial because as
Latour states the

Argumentative Essay On Kayak Fishing
Kayaks have been classic vessels for fishing, as opposed to using a big boat. Many people are
flocking to kayak fishing because of its many benefits. Kayaks for fishing range from two hundred
dollars to thirteen hundred dollars, much less than the cost of a boat (fishhound). Operating a boat
takes a toll on the angler and his gear and it comes with a lot to think about, and it is hard to
handle. Using a kayakinstead of a boatallows access to non motorised water bodies, as well as
height and length limited water bodies. Most people use kayaks because they provide peace and
quiet, and they promote exercise benefits (Mac). Buying a kayak instead of a boat, and using
artificial bait instead of natural bait is the best option because of the benefits... Show more content

Anglers also prefer to use artificial bait this because they need to use much more equipment when
using natural bait. (The Dorling 250). The equipment needed when using natural bait includes
bobbers, hooks, line, swivels and weights. Searching for and storing for all of these items is time
consuming and very expensive. Another downside to natural bait fishing occurs when fishing with
live fish. When using this method, an angler would not always know in which direction the fish
on the end of the line is going to swim. Using a live fish as bait can be quite difficult because it
is hard to get a live fish to stay on a hook.when using artificial bait the only tackle you need is the
lure. A very popular method of artificial bait is crankbaits. Crankbaits are easy to use,
inexpensive and they are durable. Anglers prefer to use artificial bait over natural bait because
natural bait lasts only a few hours, but artificial baits can last for years. Another plus to using
artificial bait is that the angler will be able to cast into the water quickly. The natural bait
fisherman will have to organise his tackle, prepare his rod, and tie everything together. Artificial
baits are useful for kids because most crankbaits have an action. An action is when an angler has
to move the rod a certain way for the lure to work. Lures that are good for kids can just be casted
out and reeled straight back in. Some lures are made with one single barbless hook. The
advantage to using a barbless hook is that once is on the hook the hook is easy to remove. In the
event that an angler has put hook through his skin a barbless hook is eazy to take

Define Happiness In America
Studies have shown, only 1 in 3 Americans are very happy with their life. The two thirds that are
not happy tend to believe one of two things: that they are not happy because they do not own or
have as many things compared to another person, and because they fill their inner void of happiness
with money. The truth is money can buy many, many things, except happiness. What is happiness?
In order to define yourself as happy or not you must understand the the definition of happiness. For

you must have what they have.Well, according to BBC, happiness is a complex state of mind

The Zero Waste Lifestyle Is The Healthiest
With all the pollution and waste in the world people don t think that by doing small things they
can help. Zero waste lifestyles are the way we should be living. They are much more efficient in
creating less trash per household. People should be more conscious to living this way. The zero
waste lifestyle is the smartest way to live and can lead to healthier life. The zero waste lifestyle is
the healthiest and most efficient way to live.
The zero waste lifestyle is very good at reducing the amount of trash each household produces.
On average each household in the US produces 1570 pounds a year roughly 4.3 pounds per day.
By switching to the zero waste lifestyle you can reduce that down to roughly a quart which is
equivalent to four cups. This has been done by Bea Johnson, she lives the zero waste lifestyle way.
She is very smart when it comes to reducing the amount of trash her family creates. She uses glass
jars in place of plastic containers. She made her own reusable shopping bags and she has created
many other eco friendly substitutes. Another woman who is trying to reduce the amount of trash
her family produces is Alicia Ebaugh. Her family only fills one kitchen trash bag full over the
course of a year. She says preparing meals at her Michigan City home instead of stopping at fast
food restaurants not only reduces waste by avoiding throw away cups, bags and other containers
that come with the food, but also waistlines . So not only is It going to help the

How Does Bee Population Affect Society
Slide 1 I was inspired by the stimulus document A World without Work, by Derek Thompson. In the
document, Derek talks about the social and economic concerns with machines replacing factory
workers, but he completely ignores the environmental impact that humans make. Because of this, I
wanted to focus on an environmental issue that faces the U.S today that we as humans can help
solve.
Slide 2 This lead me to the question, Should the United States stabilize the diminishing bee
population in reaction to Colony Collapse Disorder? And after my research, I have concluded that
America should actually become involved and stabilize the bee population, keeping them from
going extinct.
Slide 3 Some background information that will help you further understand my argument and
the topic as a whole includes the importance of bees in our lives. Bees, and other pollinators,
pollinate a third of the world s crops that help feed multiple organisms. Every one bite of food
out of three can be traced back to involve a bee. However, the bees have been recently dying
rapidly due to CCD, or Colony Collapse Disorder. This natural disease was first recorded in 2006
in Pennsylvania by a beekeeper. After this report, more beekeepers noticed similar occurrences of
smaller colonies thus beginning the concern over a diminishing bee population. The disease
causes most bees in the colony to die off and only leave the queen, and a few worker bees. ... Show

Along with manners come a child s level of laziness and intensity, because of this children are able
to persevere through hard times and find ways to step it up when they mature. As a child my parents
raised me to the best of their ability and I would say 100% they did a great job and I m sure others
would agree. I was taught to be hard working versatile person who would go to the extreme for a

seems like nobody is fat anymore that they, have a thyroid problem, nobody is short they are
just, vertically challenged. Not only that but now people who are alcoholics are only alcoholics
because their father was a drunk and now they re a victim to his drinking. Gay people can t help
being attracted to the same sex they were born that way and because they re born that way why
should we discriminate. If a person says that homosexuality is wrong they will probably be told,
why do you have to hate or why do you have to judge. Growing up in modern American society is
the hardest challenge I have faced and will definitely get harder, but if you stay rooted in your

Taking a Look at the Human Papillomavirus
The term cancer evokes a great fear in many because there has yet been a cure found for the
disease. Human papillomavirus (HPV) is a pathogen that can cause cancer. HPV is one of the few
cancer causing pathogens that has a vaccination that is already being administered to the general
public. The administering of this vaccinewould prevent millions of people from becoming infected.
Each year about 14 million men and women are infected with the human papillomavirus, though
many could be prevented. HPV is a widely contractible virus that can yield cancerous effects, but
it is largely preventable via proper vaccination. Human papillomavirus is a virus that can cause
warts, or as the name suggests papilloma, along with some types of cancers. Papillomas are
benign tumors that in this case are caused by the human papillomavirus. Human papillomavirus
is a group of over a hundred viruses with at least fifteen that are a high risk for causing cancer.
HPV is usually passed from person to person during sexual intercourse, though it usually is
addressed as a virus that can be passed via skin to skin contact. Human papillomavirus has been
linked to cancers of the reproductive system, along with the head and neck. Cervical canceris
probably the most well known cancer that comes from certain strains of HPV. The strains of HPV
that cause cervical cancer first start off as cervical dysplasia and may develop into cancer, but

As Brandon Keim notes at Wired, screen writing is much less tactile. Typing into that Kindle

How Animals Talk Like Humans
How Animals Talk like Humans
Human interaction and communication is more complex than any animal studied thus far. The
human mind contains very intricate patterns of communication that is far more advanced than any
animal and it is one of the aspects which allowed humans to flourish. However, the patterns that
humans use to communicate are also used by many animals. Our habit to anthropomorphize other
species has swayed many research projects that remain popularly believed. This principle of an
existing human bias has debunked several studies including a famous study that came to the
conclusion that pigs are able to express themselves in a way that allows them to interact coherently
with humans. In fact, the humans being observed in the study had allowed themselves to apply a
previous context on the pigs despite the animals acting independently of human social cues
(Mitchell, R. W., Hamm, M. 1997). Even though there is a bias when studying the communication
habits of animals, newer studies have been released and rewritten to incorporate the bias and
showed that certain species still resemble human patterns of communication. Some species have
developed the skills to communicate through languages and even symbols similar to humans, but
the most astounding overarching theme is that all animals develop language skills a similar pace. In
the simplest form, the yellow canary and the human speech development are very similar. At the
start, both species mirror one another. Both

Unpacking Spinoza s Ontological Argument
Unpacking Spinoza s Ontological Argument in Regards to Monism
Baruch Spinoza was a Dutch philosopher who was active in the mid to late 17th century. In
Spinoza s ontological argument he attempts to prove the existence of God as the root of all things
that everything is created from as well as proving that God is the only true substance. According to
Spinoza, It pertains to the nature of a substance to exist (Spinoza). This means that Spinoza believes
existence is a necessary property of any single thing. Everything that exists is a substance or an
affection (mode). This disagrees with other philosophers discussed throughout the course, such as
Kant, who felt that existing was not a necessary property and that it could not be assumed ... Show

This means that existence is an inherent property of every substance and that existence is an
attribute of every substance.
Secondly, Spinoza claims that, Two substances having different attributes have nothing in common
with one another (Spinoza). He uses Definition 3 to justify this claim: By substance I understand
what is in itself and is conceived through itself, i.e., that whose concept does not require the concept
of another thing, from which it must be formed (Spinoza). In this Spinoza states that this substance
is made up entirely of itself whilst simultaneously having been created by itself. Since the substance
is created from itself, it is impossible for it to have been conceived by something else and therefore
cannot share the same attributes as another substance.
Spinoza also states that If things have nothing in common with one another, one of them cannot be
the cause of the other (Spinoza). According to Axiom 5, because these things have nothing in
common, they cannot be understood through the other substance meaning that they cannot be the
cause. Additionally, since Definition 3 makes it clear that the substance is entirely created from
itself it is not possible for things that have nothing in common with one another to be the cause of its

Comparing King James Bible And Cranmer s Book Of Common...
The English renaissance was specific in its distraction with religion and the place of man in
association with God. Britain had experienced a particularly a laden period in its religious feelings
with Henry VIII having taken the nation through the reconstruction, the nation having gone from

intricacy, profundity, and assortment, the stories of the English Renaissance is unparalleled.
Literature denoted a move from a period of confidence to a time of reason. Writing speaks to the

Comparing The Creation Stories Of Ancient Israelite Views...
Compare and contrast the creation stories in Enuma Elish and in Genesis. In particular, assess
what this comparative work tells us about ancient Israelite views of God and God s creative work.
Genesis 1, the first chapter in the bible, is easily the most well known creation story to come out
of the Ancient Near East. However, that does not mean that it was the only creation story to come
out of that period. The Babylonian epic, the Enuma Elish was one such story. It is in essence a
history of the Babylonian gods, and in particular, one god, Marduk. It was ultimately written to
justify his rise to power as the head of the Babylonian pantheon of gods. This was done in order
to support Babylon s claim to pre eminence above all the other cities in the country (Heidel 1963,
p. 14). Despite emerging from the same period, the two texts are starkly different. The former
portrays an all powerful, transcendent, monotheistic God, while the latter describes a polytheistic
hierarchy of gods who reach their ends through violence and conflict. The differences between the
Enuma Elish and Genesis 1 are so vast and endless that there is no real reason to discuss about
their literary dependence or mythological similarities (EOR, p. 2811). Rather, the Enuma Elish is
better enlisted as a tool of comparison in order to highlight the utterly different and radical nature of
the ancient Israelite religion as compared to the common religious beliefs circulating the Near East.

A Report On The Bill Of Costs
Good Morning John,
I note from your initial instructions for the above matter that there is a further sum of money
that you wish for me to include in the Bill of Costs. At this stage I am unsure as to what these
costs have resulted from but there are strict rules as to what and how we recover costs and I
wanted to briefly explain the same. If the costs have not been incurred or cannot be claimed
under your retainer then recovering them will not be possible without breaching statutory or
regulatory obligations. It is essential that the retainer is valid for all of the costs you wish to
recover as without this validity you as the solicitor will not be able to recover costs (JH Milner Son

If you have not informed your client and if there is no contractual right to increase rates in the
retainer then unfortunately we will be bound by what is contractually stated. The costs of the
litigation have been incurred on behalf of the Claimant, the Bill must therefore represent what the
Claimant has agreed to pay to you for your services. We cannot recover any costs that the Claimant
is not liable to pay.
Furthermore, as per the Law of Contract we cannot include costs until you have actually carried out
the work so if the costs you mention are in relation to work you are going to do then unfortunately
we cannot seek any remuneration as the matter has now settled.

If your instructions refer to including costs relating to work that is not on file then we must ensure
that compliance with the Codes is maintained. If you have done the work then we can include it as
it should be able to be evidenced through the work done and we can justify this to the paying
party; but without evidence the costs will be difficult to recover if they come into dispute. The Bill
needs to be sufficiently particularised, otherwise costs could be void for inadequate information (Re
Kingsley 1978).

Jp Morgan and Dodd-Frank Act
Q. 1. What were the major factors that led to the recent financial crisis? How did we get here?
Answer: One of the primary factors that can be attributed as to have led the recent financial crisis is
the financial deregulation allowing financial institutions a lot of freedom in the way they operated.
The manifestation of this was seen in the form of: a) Financial innovations that were not backed up
with adequate riskcontrols and management. b) Too much reliance on Quantitative Risk
Management ultimately leading to mispricing of risk across different financial and non financial
investments that were the product of the financial innovations made feasible by financial
deregulation. c) The influx of liquidity both original... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Answer:
The Glass Steagall Act of 1933 that defined the roles for commercial banks, investments banks and
insurance firms was over ridden by the Gramm Leach Bliley Act (1999) which repealed the
provisions that restricted affiliations in financial institutions. Hence one solution is to overcome the
incentive problem and the conflict of interests that arise when financial institutions simultaneously
undertake financial activities of varied nature.
In addition to the above the internal incentive to bank should be reduced by requiring greater
capital requirements as well as improving upon the definition of what qualifies to be capital. Further
in line with the answer to question 3, risk management systems in financial institutions need to be
redefined and strengthened to more comprehensively identify, evaluate, manage and monitor risks.
Yes we need to have some form of regulation. The proposed regulation is not bad as it covers most
of the recommendations discussed in this write up earlier. It reinforces the regulatory role as
outlined earlier and requires improving the capital requirements as well as the risk management
systems in place in financial institutions. At the same time the focus is mostly on large, complex
financial institutions that have a systematic impact so it allows some flexibility particularly for
smaller and medium size financial institutions.
As for as the key points to consider, the regulation that is

Newell And Rubbermaid Case Study
At first glance, the merger of Newell and Rubbermaid seems very attractive. Newell had a proven
track record of acquiring companies and turning them around to deliver shareholder value. Since the
1960s, Newell had made over 35 strategic acquisitions of commodity producing manufacturing
firms with low operating margins. Acquisitions usually added to shelf space, increase supplier
power and rounded out Newell s good, better, best multiproduct offering. Also, acquired companies
were typically market leaders.
Rubbermaid was one of the most recognized brands in the world, known for its innovative products
and marketing. It also seemed that there was potential for synergies, especially if one looked at the
customer base and distribution channels of the two firms. But the $5B acquisition of Rubbermaid
would be their largest till date, and question to ask would be can Newell turn the company around
to ensure higher margins and ROI within a targeted period of time?
We can analyse the various synergies that could be achieved from this merger using the Eccles
Lane Wilson Framework in Exhibit 1.
No doubt the aim of the acquisition would be to Newellize Rubbermaid If we were to assume
that Newell would expect to make major changes in the first two years to achieve cost savings and
increase revenues, we would have to assume that Newell would achieve synergies across cost and
revenues right from the get go. Given that revenues of $2.4B and net income of $142M, and

Mission Values And Values Of American Red Cross
American Red Cross: Mission, Vision, and Values The American Red Cross is a non profit
organization that helps those going through a crisis. This organization also provides services and
relief during emergencies to alleviate suffering. This non profit is well known throughout the world
and has existed for a very long time, over 130 years (Red Cross). Services offered through the
American Red Crossinclude but are not limited to disaster relief, blood drives, CPR classes, and
services to the Armed Forces. The American Red Cross would not be as successful or exist over

mission statement does not need any improvement as it fulfills all the characteristics of a good
mission for an organization. The American Red Cross vision statement serves its purpose as it
stats where the organization is headed in the future. The vision statement is well written, however
a time limit should have been mentioned where we would see the vision turned reality. The
change in the vision would be stating accomplishing the vision in 10 years. Including a time limit
will give the employees and organization a goal, which is to accomplish this vision in the
specified time; this will also meet the criteria of including a time frame. Simply put, the mission is
the existence of the organization, the vision is where they want to go, and the values or principle is

Analysis Of Goodnight Spaceman
Goodnight Spaceman written by Michelle Robinson and Nick East is the first book that we will
analyze. This book was published in April of 2016, meaning it was written three years after
Round is a Tortilla. The main characters of this book are the two little boys and the reader follows
them as they travel into space using their imagination. They link with their astronaut father and
work on the spaceship before falling asleep back in their bed.
Round is a Tortilla: A Book of Shapes written by Roseanne Greenfield Thong and illustrated by
John Parra is the second book that we look at in the analysis. This short children s book was
published in February of 2013. The reader is following along as the author is listing the various

On both pages, this individual of color is portrayed as smaller than the adult white male and placed
in the background making seem as if he less important than the white individual. This reinforces
the false stereotype that African Americans are untrustworthy and incapable of holding positions
of power. The reader is forced to believe that the white individual is the leader and giving orders
to everybody else in the space station. This individual of color is also drawn smaller than the
two young white males and anyone other than young children will now that this portrayal is false
because children are always smaller than grown individuals. Minorities aren t the only ones that
are being discriminated in this short children s book. Women are another major group of
individuals that are being victimized by the authors. First, the reader is never introduced to a
mother of the young children and we have to understand that most likely these young boys aren t
living alone. There are no pictures of her in the room and she is not coming up to tuck them in or
shut their bedroom window. This leaves an older reader like myself to wonder if she is a neglectful
parent because the author is showing no love on her part. However, there are some women found
throughout the book but in the roles in which a male dominated culture would see fit. The first sight
of a woman is on the page in which the children

Negative Effects Of Social Networking
Student Answer: The use of social networking comes with mixed reviews because this tool can
be used to both grow a company and potentially harm a company . Companies that utilize social
networks can benefit form the influx of customers. Using social network platforms allow the
customer to reach millions of customers. ` The viral nature of social networking encourages all
the people who are connected to you to share what they like, plan to attend, or want to participate
in` (Minerof, 2010). In the case of Facebook, you can see the pages, companies, campaigns, and
events your friends like and plan to participate in . Seeing these actives on your time line most
times lead you to also look at the company. These is a great marketing tool. `Social networking
does have its pitfalls` (Minerof, 2010).Companies that allow their employees to access Facebook
may be creating opportunities for unethical practice, especially when employees overly engage
during work hours. Employees can sometimes over engage in infrequent status updates, game
applications and viewing online images and videos. Blurring the lines between personal and
business use (Minerof, 2010). Allowing employees to use social networks for work related
activities causes distractions from social media that makes the negative impact of such media on
productivity to outweigh the benefits (Minerof, 2010). The internet may be a distraction from work
activities because the potential of abuse due to unlimited access to social

Anytime something does not go the way it should having to do with my body, energy, moods,

living styles. Which is accurate and understandable to a certain extent but, in mine and my

average person and I try to not eat a lot of meats, and especially not red meats, but on occassion I
do enjoy treating myself to, what I call, a cheat meal.
A few months back when visiting friends out of town, I decided to go all out and try this

aftermath was seven days of pure distaste, pain, and regret. Of course when coming to my mom

A Small Place
New Perspectives to Kincaid s A Small Place
If one wants an interesting but controversial read that is intellectually stimulating, A Small Place is
perfect. Critics both praise and condemn her text. To better understand Kincaid and her essay, one
should analyze the massive effects of British rule on Antigua, her intended audience, and the
childhood she experienced; specifically, the Postcolonial, Reader Response, and Biographical
lenses.
The Post Colonial lens analyzes the effects of colonialism, so readers can better understand the
challenges Antiguans face as a consequence of colonial times. Antigua is full of the ancestors of
slaves, so the people living in Antigua post emancipation did not receive the opportunity to develop

She has experienced racism firsthand, and has seen a government go from colonized to free to
immediately corrupt. Unlike native born European and Americans, She has attachments towards
a foreign island, and these attachments contribute to her anger and strong opinion on the
subjects she writes about in ASP. Kincaid seems to have always disliked her british connections,
despite her childhood revolving ... almost completely around England... (Kincaid 33.) As a child,
all she ever knew was Western culture, English culture specifically. She grew up being taught to
celebrate English holidays and to recite Rule Brittania. However, even at a young age, she
recognized that she is not a Briton, and she recalled in an interview, ...I used to say that we
weren t Britons, we were slaves, (475.) Her recognition of the clear social distinctions that still
existed then is smart and demonstrates her early grasp of the concept of social equality. At this
early age she knows but does not fully understand the inequality between her and the English. The
social inequality she experienced was racism, though she and other Antiguans simply thought the
racism they experienced was bad manners. In an interview, Kincaid recalled a memory about a
racist teacher, ...she told these girls over and over again to stop behaving as if they were monkeys
just out of trees. No one ever dreamed that the word for any of this was

Comparing The Two Sport Societies
Comparison Of the Two Sport Societies Comparing these two sports societies may have seemed
to be a difficult task before reading the descriptions of each. After reading and researching, it is
very clear to me that there are specific norms each share, despite the fact that they are for different
sports. In each nation, there are similarities in the dedication that each society has towards their
given sport. Even though people may not have been dying in arguments over the sport in the
American society, there is still a sense of the same dedication and fanaticism. Another thing about
the societies that is comparable is the fan base that each society presents towards their given sport.
Both groups are very large, intensely loyal and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As you can see from author Williams, more and more Americans are adopting England s societal
sports norms. Things happening between the NFL and England s sports society have really
taken off to another level, and make Williams story look like baby steps. This gradual progress
aside, at the end of the day American football will never be as popular (accepted) in England as
soccer, just like soccer will never be as popular as football here in the states. That is the only
conclusion that can be reached to anyone consider the facts fairly. Ultimately, I believe that it will
be these cultural differences that will be the most important obstacle/barrier to the NFL s efforts to
expand globally. The NFL s Effort to Export American Football to International Markets
Throughout the history of the NFL, there have been several attempts at globalizing the league. In

Pros And Cons Of The Poliovirus And Vaccine
Hi Antoinette, great post with a lot of detailed information. During my research of the poliovirus
and vaccine, I was in complete shock. As we know the food and drug administration (FDA)
regulates and approves our vaccines for public use. In 1955 the FDA approved and provided
licensure for the polio vaccinefor public use within two hours (Gale, Null, 2015). This was the
fastest vaccine approved by the FDA ever. Although this resulted in a nightmare and many children
and adults were affected with many different forms of paralysis and some even lost their life as a
result, there was still some good that came from the poliovirus vaccine.
In 2016 the FDA gave breakthrough status and approval, which will allow hundreds of patients to

Willamete Valley Essay
Agriculture did not occur in the Pacific Northwest because much of its environment was flanked
east and west by the coniferous forests of the Cascades and Coast Range (Aikens 183). These
coniferous forests allowed for vast water system that eventually joined the Willamette River on its
course northward to the Columbia below (Aikens 183); and resulted in a gallery forests of
deciduous and evergreen trees followed the watercourse, and much of the valley floor was in open
grassland with scattered oak groves (Boyd 67). The coniferous forests and evergreen grasslands for

The root harvest served as a gathering technique that was facilitated by the abundances of camas
lilies, or more specifically their bulbs, that were a key staple to the people of the Willamette
Valley. Using simple digging sticks, they would dig out a large quantity of these bulbs, collect
them to gather, and bury them in what is known as a camas oven. After letting these slowly bake
in the earth, they would dig them up and pound them into cakes (Jew 4). The vast grasslands and
evergreen fields of the Willamette Valley also provided the peoples of the Oregon coast with
edible seeds, bulbs, and acorns in great quantity (Aikens 188). These edible seeds, bulbs, and
acorns were made available by the bottomland plant communities along the valley s streams, that
contained other species which also produced edible or otherwise usable parts (Aikens 188). The
vast majority of these edible or otherwise usable parts was facilitated by the presence of native
Oregon coast forest trees such as the hazelnut, Oregon grape, salmonberry, elderberry, and ninebark
(Aikens 188); and their abundance promoted the peoples of the Willamette Valley to turn to the
subsistence agricultural practice of slash/burn to make the habitat more conducive to elk, deer,

Use Of Writing Used By The Missionaries Of Josiah Venture
and observed the larger purpose they all serve as a whole. I gathered many primary sources that
were written in different points of time. I was able to make sense of much of the data from my
past experience with support raising. I have spent several summers in the states with my parents as
they use these methods of support raising so I myself am also very familiar with many of Josiah
Venture s methods.
Results The results of this study show the importance of all of these forms of writing used by the
missionaries of Josiah Venture. It is important to realize that the supporters of all of these
missionaries are mainly residence of the United States and other European countries. The strategies
and roles of these writing types may not apply to every culture a certain missionary communicates
with. However, I the values and meaning behind these methods likely apply to all cultures.
Support Letters I ll start with the very first technological writing method for support raising.
Support letters. Like I said earlier in my paper, I interviewed my grandfather Richard Patty who
served in the Philippines for several years. I managed to obtain several samples of support letters
from him including one that dates all the way back to 1955. News letters can sustain the interest
of a donor. Back then you couldn t have your bank automatically send a check to a list of
missionaries. They needed to be reminded to of their commitment to send money. (R. Patty) My

How I Got A Promotion
I got a promotion offer that will move us out to Oregon my dad said as he looked over at me
from the driver s seat of the rental car we were sitting in. His face had a peculiar look to it, one
that I hadn t seen before. He looked at me with eyebrows slightly raised and the corners of his
mouth curled up just slightly with a sympathetic smile. I know now that it was a look of
questioning, questioning how I would take what he had just said. It was July 26th 2015 and it
had been two months since I had seen my parents because I was at basic training. They came to
see me on family weekend and could only stay for two days before I had to go back to training for
another month. My dad drove to the base to pick me up around 5:30 that morning.... Show more

I m seriously considering taking the position he said as we looked out the windshield of the car.
The sun was just beginning to rise over the horizon, it was huge and bright red, it was not yet
bright enough to be blinding so we just stared while it slowly made its way into the morning sky.
The rays danced all around the big red ball but yet it was steady and calculated in its movement. I
had always wanted to go out west but had never been farther west than Ohio. I also recognized
that this offer came at the perfect time; both my sister and I had moved out of the house, me for
college and my sister for grad school, so there was nothing holding him back. We talked about
what it would mean for our family. This was no small transition; I knew it would be a
momentous change. From our house in Jew Jersey to the new home in Oregon is 2,906 miles
away, to travel would be 45 hours by car and 18 hours by plane. My mom and dad would live in
Oregon, my sister would stay in New Jersey to finish school, and I would now live full time at
school in Ohio. My parents would have to move everything they owned across the country sell
their house buy a new one and start all over in a brand new location. Not to mention my sister and
I could no longer just drive home over breaks now we would have to fly across the country or not

  • 4. Decision Making In Robert Frost s The Road Not Taken In Robert Frost s The Road Not Taken , we are constantly pounded with with the idea of making choices. But what about choices does Frost want us to realize? After closely reading and analyzing this piece of literature I think it s clear that Frost wants his readers to be more self dependant when it comes to decision making. Taking the roadless traveled by is how Frost illustrates this and as we break down this piece of literature you will see that Frost makes his message very clear in his poem. In the first stanza and line of the poem Frost immediately has exposed to us the choiceat hand. Two roads diverged in a yellow wood. (Frost, #1). So we see this picture of two paths split into seperate ways. Choosing which path to take is a very difficult decision for the traveler. He says he s sorry he could not travel both (Frost, #2) making it clear that there is this dilemma for our protagonist on choosing which way to go. In lines three and four the traveler says long I stood/And looked down one as far as I could. (Frost, #3 4) Frost perfectly paints this picture of the traveler standing there arms crossed, looking down each path, and on his tippy toes trying to get the best look possible at both paths ahead of him. In the second stanza the traveler finally makes a decision and takes the other path. This is where the tone changes in the poem and we finally have this feeling that the traveler made the right decision. And having perhaps the better claim,/Because it was ... Catastrophes and Stress Ailen Fernandez PSY 102 April 21, 2013 Jones, Jennifer Catastrophes and Stress American Leader Martin Luther King Jr. once said, An individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity (Martin). Luther King believed that in order for us humans to have a meaningful live we must put aside our personal problems and care about the problems of humanity as a whole. The earthquake of Oakland, California in 1989 is a true example of this quote. As the sirens of ambulances roared through the abolished city thousands of civilians gathered together, taking risks, to help those that were in the borderline of life and death. Although the Kelly s admit to survivors guilt based on their own footage it seems like they could have done more to prevent the tragedy that happen when the other car dumped into the whole. The only thing that Debbie and Thomas Kelly did to warn upcoming light was to put on their flashing light. Debbie took out her recording camera and started to record the gap between the highway, meantime a car was coming and didn t see the gap crashed in it. Instead of recording Debbie and Thomas should have tried to grab the attention of the drivers so that they wouldn t have fallen through the road gap. They now experience survivors guilt because they survived not crashing into the road gap when the others did (Amaldo, 2004). Survivors guilt has been studied in many situations because it is a psychological disorder that affects individuals that have survived a scarring catastrophe. The Holocaust is one of these catastrophes that have left survivors with a sense of guilt. A study done by Gertrude Schneider upon 50 Holocaust survivors demonstrated that some but not all had a sense of survivors guilt (Schneider, 1975). Fourteen of the interviewed victims admitted that they felt bad for being passive victims and that they would have preferred to have died honorably (Schneider, 1975). Others said that there was no way that they could have fought back and prevent them from going through that horrible experience of being in the camps (Schneider, 1975). ... Disasters are occurring at a rate many people cannot absorb psychologically and financially. Therefore, affecting people s decisions to move away from disaster prone areas, mainly if they were displaced, lost their possessions, or had a traumatic experience. To help alleviate some of these effects, FEMA has not only developed mitigation planning guides for local governments to adopt as a guide but also serves a starting point for reducing such disasters. (Federal Emergency ManagementAgency, 2003). Political leaders, influential residents, fire department, police department and other participants are involved in the planning process in identifying... The essential difference amongst Roseville plans and other cities is that Roseville has well exceeded the minimum disaster mitigation act of 2000 requirements for citizen involvement by formulating the Roseville Hazard Mitigation Plan through a variety of robust outreach measures. • 7. Argumentative Essay About Gay Adoption Corri Fairfull Discursive Essay Gay Adoption Gay adoption is a subject which is widely debated. However over recent years gay adoption has allowed for most gay couples who want to adopt young children and give them a good quality of life, which they would have if they lived with their biological parents or a heterosexual couple, to do so. One positive view of gay adoption is that it gives the gay couple the chance to start their own family and give a child in care a new start to life in a loving home. This will allow the couple to love and care for the child just as much as they would if the child was living with their own biological parents. Gay couples who want to adopt a child will give the same loving family home just like a heterosexual couple or single parent would. For some children, living with a gay couple may be something they haven t experienced before. However finding a family who love the child and appreciate them for who they are, also encouraging them with all aspects of their life and supporting them all the way through their life is what matters most to children. Another positive view about gay adoption is that it means a child in care will receive the opportunity to get the benefit of new parents who are going to give them the best possible life with parents who are healthy, in a stable relationship and have a good financial support system in place. Since there are many children up for adoption, gay couples often adopt children who are older as babies ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. Should Prison Gangs Become More Prevalent Inside Our... Prison gangs within the penal system are problematic and a multifaceted issue for several reasons. One reason gangs are so problematic in the penal system is due to the threat they impose on others, including other types of gang bangers, non gang affiliated inmates, correctional staff, prison administration, and the overall security of the facility itself. According to research, A composite measure of gangmisconduct represents the threat that particular gangs pose to prison order (Gaes, Wallace, Gilman, Saffron, Suppa, 2002). In fact, There is little doubt that prison gangs are the source of considerable misconduct and present serious challenges to the management of prisons, which is why numerous strategies have been employed to control and suppress gang activity (Pyrooz Mitchell, 2015). Why are prison gangs becoming more prevalent inside our nation s prison system? Since the 1950s, prison gangs have developed in American prisons more rapidly than in the previous years. Correction staff recognizes some prison gangs as being a security threat group or STG. A security threat group is a term for prison gangs that describes how they negatively impact the security of prison operations (Smallagher Smykla, 2015). However, it was displayed clearly during the Global Financial Crisis (GFC) and noted by (Curran and Von Acker 2010, 185) that in times of crisis the PRC will tend to retreat from the privatisation of the economy for a significantly increased state intervention , including such measures as ordering the mainly state owned banks to cut the size of loans granted to private enterprises (Wang and Iftikhar 2010). This kind of government control can have negative impacts on business but are sometimes considered as an acceptable trade off, as in the case of the compulsory minimum wages set and tightly controlled in the United states by the federal government and set in the PRC by autonomous provinces and municipalities, which allows for corruption and abuse by domestic and international business. While the Chinese market promises cheap land and labour, it must be understood that recklessly abusing such activities will tarnish that rare commodity that is brand image. For some, such as Hitachi the offer is simply too tempting to refuse and they take advantage of what Barboza (2006) describes as the cheap land and labour and the factory system where young workers essentially march to their jobs every 8 hours, often from company owned dormitories nearby . Gilgamesh showcases many tropes that we see in classic epics and novels of heros. He was a man without fear, without a challenge, and at the beginning of the story he is painted out to be more of a villain than a hero. This was do to his unrest, he need someone who could challenge him; this would allow him to go down the path path of a hero. Enkiduwas created by the gods to challenge Gilgameshand push him. Nature And Culture, Humans And Non-Human Dualism Nature and culture and humans and non human dualism are first and foremost produced by the modern knowledge production and particularly echoed by the humanistic perspective where greater focus and attention is given to the humans over other beings. This intentional and unintentional act of duality created, I argue, has become immaterial with the appearance of the posthumanistic perspective. First and foremost, with the current development in the field of biotechnology, the increased dependence on machines for various purposes, the multiplication of hybrid substances for diverse purposes, coupled with many more happenings in the contemporary times suggest that our life is interwoven with all manner of non humans and it will be impossible to uniquely separate humans from non humans (Anderson, 2013). The two entities are inseparable and based on this premise of inseparability between the humans and non humans, nature and culture, it suffices to say that, though some of the arguments raised by the humanistic perspective are valid, the overarching supremacy accorded to humans and its consciousness over other non humans are far fetched and immaterial. As aptly put by Jones, and somewhat understandably, humans tend to think of themselves and their societies as rather different to nature, and rather special (2009, p.7) in the face of complement roles performed by both. Secondly, the human and non human and nature culture dualism has become immaterial because as Latour states the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 23. Argumentative Essay On Kayak Fishing Kayaks have been classic vessels for fishing, as opposed to using a big boat. Many people are flocking to kayak fishing because of its many benefits. Kayaks for fishing range from two hundred dollars to thirteen hundred dollars, much less than the cost of a boat (fishhound). Operating a boat takes a toll on the angler and his gear and it comes with a lot to think about, and it is hard to handle. Using a kayakinstead of a boatallows access to non motorised water bodies, as well as height and length limited water bodies. The equipment needed when using natural bait includes bobbers, hooks, line, swivels and weights. Searching for and storing for all of these items is time consuming and very expensive. Another downside to natural bait fishing occurs when fishing with live fish. When using this method, an angler would not always know in which direction the fish on the end of the line is going to swim. Using a live fish as bait can be quite difficult because it is hard to get a live fish to stay on a hook.when using artificial bait the only tackle you need is the lure. A very popular method of artificial bait is crankbaits. Crankbaits are easy to use, inexpensive and they are durable. Anglers prefer to use artificial bait over natural bait because natural bait lasts only a few hours, but artificial baits can last for years. Another plus to using artificial bait is that the angler will be able to cast into the water quickly. The natural bait fisherman will have to organise his tackle, prepare his rod, and tie everything together. Artificial baits are useful for kids because most crankbaits have an action. An action is when an angler has to move the rod a certain way for the lure to work. Lures that are good for kids can just be casted out and reeled straight back in. Some lures are made with one single barbless hook. The advantage to using a barbless hook is that once is on the hook the hook is easy to remove. The human mind contains very intricate patterns of communication that is far more advanced than any animal and it is one of the aspects which allowed humans to flourish. However, the patterns that humans use to communicate are also used by many animals. Our habit to anthropomorphize other species has swayed many research projects that remain popularly believed. This principle of an existing human bias has debunked several studies including a famous study that came to the conclusion that pigs are able to express themselves in a way that allows them to interact coherently with humans. In fact, the humans being observed in the study had allowed themselves to apply a previous context on the pigs despite the animals acting independently of human social cues (Mitchell, R. W., Hamm, M. 1997). Even though there is a bias when studying the communication habits of animals, newer studies have been released and rewritten to incorporate the bias and showed that certain species still resemble human patterns of communication. Some species have developed the skills to communicate through languages and even symbols similar to humans, but the most astounding overarching theme is that all animals develop language skills a similar pace. In Spinoza s ontological argument he attempts to prove the existence of God as the root of all things that everything is created from as well as proving that God is the only true substance. According to Spinoza, It pertains to the nature of a substance to exist (Spinoza). This means that Spinoza believes existence is a necessary property of any single thing. In this Spinoza states that this substance is made up entirely of itself whilst simultaneously having been created by itself. Since the substance is created from itself, it is impossible for it to have been conceived by something else and therefore cannot share the same attributes as another substance. Spinoza also states that If things have nothing in common with one another, one of them cannot be the cause of the other (Spinoza). In particular, assess what this comparative work tells us about ancient Israelite views of God and God s creative work. Genesis 1, the first chapter in the bible, is easily the most well known creation story to come out of the Ancient Near East. However, that does not mean that it was the only creation story to come out of that period. The Babylonian epic, the Enuma Elish was one such story. It is in essence a history of the Babylonian gods, and in particular, one god, Marduk. It was ultimately written to justify his rise to power as the head of the Babylonian pantheon of gods. This was done in order to support Babylon s claim to pre eminence above all the other cities in the country (Heidel 1963, p. 14). Despite emerging from the same period, the two texts are starkly different. The former portrays an all powerful, transcendent, monotheistic God, while the latter describes a polytheistic hierarchy of gods who reach their ends through violence and conflict. The differences between the Enuma Elish and Genesis 1 are so vast and endless that there is no real reason to discuss about their literary dependence or mythological similarities (EOR, p. 2811). Hence one solution is to overcome the incentive problem and the conflict of interests that arise when financial institutions simultaneously undertake financial activities of varied nature. In addition to the above the internal incentive to bank should be reduced by requiring greater capital requirements as well as improving upon the definition of what qualifies to be capital. Further in line with the answer to question 3, risk management systems in financial institutions need to be redefined and strengthened to more comprehensively identify, evaluate, manage and monitor risks. Yes we need to have some form of regulation. The proposed regulation is not bad as it covers most of the recommendations discussed in this write up earlier. It reinforces the regulatory role as outlined earlier and requires improving the capital requirements as well as the risk management systems in place in financial institutions. At the same time the focus is mostly on large, complex financial institutions that have a systematic impact so it allows some flexibility particularly for smaller and medium size financial institutions. • 42. Newell And Rubbermaid Case Study At first glance, the merger of Newell and Rubbermaid seems very attractive. Newell had a proven track record of acquiring companies and turning them around to deliver shareholder value. Since the 1960s, Newell had made over 35 strategic acquisitions of commodity producing manufacturing firms with low operating margins. Acquisitions usually added to shelf space, increase supplier power and rounded out Newell s good, better, best multiproduct offering. Also, acquired companies were typically market leaders. Rubbermaid was one of the most recognized brands in the world, known for its innovative products and marketing. But the $5B acquisition of Rubbermaid would be their largest till date, and question to ask would be can Newell turn the company around to ensure higher margins and ROI within a targeted period of time? We can analyse the various synergies that could be achieved from this merger using the Eccles Lane Wilson Framework in Exhibit 1. No doubt the aim of the acquisition would be to Newellize Rubbermaid If we were to assume that Newell would expect to make major changes in the first two years to achieve cost savings and increase revenues, we would have to assume that Newell would achieve synergies across cost and revenues right from the get go.
