invented prose narrative
shorter than a novel
usually dealing with a
few characters.

Yes! When we say short
story, it is a prose
narrative shorter length
that
a
novel
that
concentrates on a single
theme or idea and it’s can
be read in one sitting.
There are Five Elements
of Short Story:
1) Character – is a
person or sometimes
even animals who
take part in the action
of the story.
Two Faces of Characters:
 Protagonist – main
character
 Antagonist – opposite
of main character
What are the faces of
character?
2) Setting – is the time
and location of the
story. In setting there
are some things to
consider.

weather, place and mood.

Time – when does the
story happen?
Weather – is it
raining?
Sunny?
Stormy?
Place – where does
the story happen?
Mood or atmosphere
– is created at the
beginning of the

3) Plot – is the sequence
of events in a story.
There are 5 essential
parts of plot.
What are those?
 Intro – the beginning
of the story where the
characters & setting
are presented.
 Rising action – this is
where the events in
the story become
complicated.
 Climax – this is the
highest
point
of
interest in the story.
 Falling action – the
problem begin to
resolve.
 Denouement – the
final outcome of the
story.
4) Conflict – it is the
central struggle in the
story.
5) Theme
–
it
is
basically the moral of
the story.
