Procedure:
Teacher’s Activity
Before we start, let us pray
first
Checking of attendance

A. Review
What was our last topic
that
we
discussed
yesterday?
So, what is punctuation
again?

Very good! How about
the marks of punctuation?

Alright! Maybe that’s
enough. I think you
already have notions
about punctuation. So
let’s move to our next
topic.
B. Motivation
Asking the students what
are their favorite short
story? Why do they like
it?

Student’s Activity
(One student will lead the
prayer)
(Students raise their hand and
say present as the teacher
calls their name.)

Ma’am, our last topic that
we discussed yesterday
was all about punctuation.
Punctuation is the use of
certain marks in writing
to make the writer’s
meaning clear.
Ma’am, the marks of
punctuation are period,
comma, and semi-colon.
C. Presentation of Lesson
Teacher will now connect
the answer to the topic.
What do you mean by a
short story?

Ma’am a short story is an
invented prose narrative
shorter than a novel
usually dealing with a
few characters.

Yes! When we say short
story, it is a prose
narrative shorter length
that
a
novel
that
concentrates on a single
theme or idea and it’s can
be read in one sitting.
There are Five Elements
of Short Story:
1) Character – is a
person or sometimes
even animals who
take part in the action
of the story.
Two Faces of Characters:
 Protagonist – main
character
 Antagonist – opposite
of main character
What are the faces of
character?
2) Setting – is the time
and location of the
story. In setting there
are some things to
consider.

Ma’am, the two faces of
characters is protagonist
& antagonist.
What are those things?






Ma’am, the time,
weather, place and mood.

Time – when does the
story happen?
Weather – is it
raining?
Sunny?
Stormy?
Place – where does
the story happen?
Mood or atmosphere
– is created at the
beginning of the
story.

3) Plot – is the sequence
of events in a story.
There are 5 essential
parts of plot.
What are those?
 Intro – the beginning
of the story where the
characters & setting
are presented.
 Rising action – this is
where the events in
the story become
complicated.
 Climax – this is the
highest
point
of
interest in the story.
 Falling action – the
problem begin to
resolve.
 Denouement – the
final outcome of the
story.
4) Conflict – it is the
central struggle in the
story.
5) Theme
–
it
is
basically the moral of
the story.

Ma’am
introduction,
rising action. Climax,
falling
action
and
denouement.
So, those are the elements of
short story. Do you have
further questions?
If none, let us proceed to the
story entitled “Wedding
Dance” by Amador Daguio
for you to really understand
the elements.
(Show a picture in class)
What can you see in this
picture?
D. Standard of Reading
Oral Reading
(Teacher will now paste
the story in front.).
Before that let us first
unlock the following
words:
1. Bear – to give or carry a
child.
2. Custom – Practice or
tradition of a particular
place.
3. Sealed – to confirm or
make secure.
4. Bitter – intense and full
of hatred
5. Divert – distract
6. Courage – mental and
moral strength
7. Reminisce – to remember
8. Beads – a small piece of
material
pierced
for
threading on a string or
wire.

None Ma’am.
After reading the story,
answer the following:

IV.

1. Who are the characters in
the story?
2. Where
was
the
setting? What is the
weather and mood or
atmosphere?
3. What
was
the
problem in the story?
4. Why Awiyao does
needs
to
marry
another woman?
5. What is the theme of
the story?
E. Generalization
1. What are the elements
of short story again?
2. What do you think is
the importance of
those elements?

using the chart below.
