• Teaching approach: Communicative. It's the best approach to foster communication
and acquire new vocabulary.
• Materials and resources: Chart, photocopies, pictures, video.
• Integration of skills: reading, by reading a text about the topic, speaking by describing
their last holidays, listening by listening to a video, and writing by writing about their
holidays.
• Seating arrangement: in pairs, looking at the board. Occasionally in groups of four.
• Possible problems / difficulties and their possible solutions during the class: there are
many interruptions because the secretary or the preceptors have to give messages to the
students, but maintaining them occupied with work will help them to not loose focus.
• Potential problems students may have with the language: there might be problems with
the pronunciation of the -ed at the end of the regular verbs. However, after speaking,
listening and reading out loud activities the problem can be solved.
• Assessment: their ability to talk about past actions using regular verbs and the
activities they did during their holidays.
Routine (3')
- Good morning everyone! How are you today? I'm very glad, I hope you are glad to see
me again.
- Can anyone tell me the date please? I'll write it on the board.
Warm up (12')
- Well, today we're going to start by watching a video about some people talking about
their holidays, where they went and what they did. Let's listen to them!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cExwuVJBfe4
- So, they mentioned some activities, they told us that they visited some places, I'll show
you pictures of the activities while I mention them. So, they went snorkeling, went to
the beach, went shopping, visited some museums, saw temples and went to parks.
3.
4. - Now, in unit 2 your learnt about holiday activities, which ones can you remember?
Sail on a boat, sunbathe on the beach, camp in a tent and climb a mountain. Good!
However, we want to talk about past actions, and in order to do that, we need to change
the verbs. Look at this chart on the board. When the verb is regular, we add -ed at the
end of the verbs. We'll learn about the other verbs later, now focus your attention on
these ones.

Activity 1 (12')
- Now it's time to read about some neighbours I have, they are called Amanda, Toby,
Jessica and Kevin. They want to tell us about their holidays. I'll give each of you a copy
of the text, but you can read it in pairs.
My holidays
5. Amanda: my friend and I traveled to Cancun in Mexico last month. We stayed in a hotel
on the beach. We sunbathed every day. One day, we sailed on a boat. At night, we
danced and we talked to Mexican boys.
Toby: I traveled to Patagonia two weeks ago. I walked and I climbed mountains. I didn't
stay in a hotel and I didn't sunbathe. I stayed in a cabin. it was beautiful.
Jessica: I traveled with some of my friends to Machu Picchu in March. I walked along
the Inca Trail. I camped every night. I listened to traditional music. I really liked it. A
man played an ancient instrument. I enjoyed every minute of my holiday.
Kevin: I traveled to New York last year. I visited art galleries, I listened to concerts.
They were really fascinating. I traveled on the subway. I didn't camp. I stayed in a hotel.
It was very comfortable.
- Now look at the sentences below the text and say if they are true T or false F. If the
sentence is false, correct it.
a. Amanda traveled to Canada.
b. Toby stayed in a cabin.
c. Kevin traveled in a bus.
d. Jessica listened to pop music.
e. Toby climbed mountains.
f. Amanda talked to American boys.
Activity 2 (15')
- Let's keep working! This time, you can work in groups of four. I'll give each group a
copy of some sentences that are not in the correct order, so you have to put them in the
correct place. Furthermore, you'll have to add each sentence one word from the board.
Look at them, we have:
travel - climb - listen - enjoy - talk
1. traditional music/Jessica/yesterday/to
2. Amanda/holiday/her/Mexico/in
3. last/Kevin/New York/year/to
4. Mexican/Amanda/at night/boys/to
5. Toby/weeks/two/ago/mountains
Activity 3 (20')
- Now it's time to write! According to what we read and the previous activities, write a
letter to your mate telling him your last holidays. Tell him where you traveled, what you
did there, when you traveled, where you stayed, your favorite experience, how the
people was, how long you stayed there and any other thing you remember. However,
your letter will have missing words. Instead of writing the verbs, you'll leave the space
in blanket. Once you finish your letters, you'll exchange them with your mate, and he'll
have to complete the missing verbs. I'll paste an example of a letter on the board. Let's
start!
6. Hey Marie! How are you?
I'm back home now, and I was on holiday last month. I.............to Miami, it was
amazing!
I...............very nice beaches on the Atlantic Ocean and on the Caribbean Sea. One day,

Activity 4 (15')
- To finish this lesson, I want each you to tell the rest of the class your favorite
vacations of your life, not the last one. Each of you will have 50 seconds, I'll start and
then I'll choose another student to continue talking and so on.
My favorite holidays were in 2014, when I traveled to Mar del Plata with my
boyfriend. We sunbathed on the beach every day, we stayed in a beautiful hotel called
Bristol Condominio. One night we listened to a local band that played rock music and
we talked to lots of Marplatenses. One afternoon we went to Aquasol, and we climbed a
mountain, it wasn't a real mountain, of course, but once we climbed to the top, we
flushed down a water slide, that was the best of all and we really enjoyed our holidays.
Closure (3’)
- Well, that it for today, I hope you have enjoyed the lesson, see you next class!
Goodbye!
