Teaching approach or combination of methods / approaches: this lesson
is based on the Constructive approach, and organized through the PPP
procedure. We will also be working according to the EEE (Encounter,
Engage and Exploit) model proposed by Robinson, Mourao and Kang,
since students will use the language being exposed during the different
activities to be able to follow and sing the lyrics of the song. The end of
the class will be organized through the TPR (Total Physical Response)
procedure, since students will have to respond raising their hands when
hearing members of the family.
Integration of skills: What skills will be integrated and how? Listening
and speaking skills will be integrated throughout the lesson.
Reading and writing skills will be developed by paying attention to the
lyrics and completing with the correct words.
Cognitive skills will also be used throughout the whole lesson while
interpreting each of the tasks.
Materials and resources:
3. Two big pictures simulating a book’s pages, a poster with the song,
photocopies, music player, pen drive, computer, projector.
Pedagogical use of ICT in class or at home: I will use the computer to
show them a video with ‘Old MacDonald Had a Farm’ song, which will be
projected on the board.
Seating arrangement:
The students will sit on their desks, which are placed in four groups, facing
each other. This is how they usually sit, so I will respect this as they are organized
and ready to work. Besides, they can see each other and work in groups if necessary.
· Assessment: what will be assessed and how: I will assess the way students
interpret and acquire the new lexis and structures they are learning. I will ask
all the students to participate and help them inferring the new words’ meaning
through context.

‘O.k. Let’s start’.
Warm-up 5’
Purpose:to introduce the topic
I will show students a picture showing the first image of a story. The aim is to
introduce it as if they were parts of a book. Since the characters and reading a book
where they learn different kinds of animals, it would be a good idea to continue
adding pages to it during the year.
In this image, we can see a rabbit family. The grandchildren and the grandmother
are reading a book about animals.
‘Look! This is Tom. He is rabbit. Tom has got a sister. Her name is Tina. Tom and
Tina have got a grandmother. Her name is Ruby.’
‘Tom and Tina like animals. Look! Their grandmother is reading a book. They can
go to different places. Today, they are on the farm.’
Development 20’:
Purpose: to foster listening and cognitive skills by encouraging students to
listen and identify animals in the picture
I will tell students about all the animals in the picture.
5. ‘Look! This is a dog. What colour is it?’
‘Can you see the cat? Good!’
‘This is a horse. Is it big or small?’
‘And look at the duck. It can swim.’
‘This is a chicken. What colour is it?
‘Look at the sheep. Is it happy?’
‘Look at this big cow.’
‘And the small rabbit. Tom, Tina and Ruby are rabbits.’
‘And finally, this is the pig. What colour is the pig?
‘Excellent! Now, look at these pictures on the board. The bird can fly. Can you fly?'
6. ‘And turtles can swim’.
‘And cats can climb’
‘And the horse? Horses can run!’
7. After introducing the farm animals and the examples of what they can do, I will
draw a chart with the pictures and the verbs written so that the students can identify
each of the actions. I will give them a photocopy with the same chart to complete.
FLY SWIM CLIMB RUN
Closure 10’:
Purpose: to finish the class singing a song about farm animals
I will tell the students: ‘Now, we are going to listen and watch the video of a song.

After listening to it for the first time, I will hand in a photocopy with the song.
‘This photocopy is incomplete. Listen, watch, and complete’
When they finish, we will check it all together and sing it. I will have a poster with
the same activity and we will complete it as we check their work.
The complete song is:
