Teaching is more difficult than it initially seems from the outside. The author used to think teaching was easy but discovered it was challenging once starting in the classroom. Being an English teacher provides opportunities to broaden students' minds and help them communicate internationally. While teaching secondary students, the author lacked experience with younger learners. Each new age group was a complete challenge that required learning from the beginning and asking for help to understand what was needed. With time and feedback, the author learned to engage students and choose appropriate materials. Overall, teaching is a fantastic but not easy profession that shapes all other professions.

1. Final Reflections
Some people think that being a teacher is easy, that they only have to
get into the classroom, teach two or three things and then they just go
home, but they are wrong. Some years ago I used to think that being a
teacher was a "piece of cake", and I was wrong too. It is not the same when
you think about this profession from the outside than when you are inside
the classroom, once you started to teach, you change your mind.
I changed my mind the day I started to teach, when I discovered that
it wasn't as easy as I thought, on the contrary, now I think this is a difficult
profession, but at the same time it is amazing. Being an English teacher
gives you the possibility to broaden students' minds, to transmit them a
different culture. Teaching English means that you are helping people to
get a job in the future, or to give them the possibility to travel to any
country in the World without any communication problems.
On the other hand, I must admit that being a teacher only at
secondary school (as I used to be), doesn't give you the tools or the
knowledge about how to teach younger learners. Teaching all kind of
students is amazing, you only have to learn how to make students focus
their attention on what you are trying to teach. Also, you have to learn the
advantages and disadvantages of teaching at kindergarten, primary and
secondary school, as this will help you face some problems that are pretty
common among students of certain ages.
Personally speaking, each period was a complete challenge, I had to
start learning from the beginning and I had to ask for help many times as I
didn't know what I had to do. Fortunately, the teachers were absolutely
lovely with me, Pamela Ramírez and Atenea Engraf, and all the feedback
from my tutor from Lenguas Vivas, Cecilia Zemborain, helped me a lot.
Many times I felt lost, specially with the youngest students, as I
hadn't had any experience and I pretended to do the same I did with
teenagers. Finally I understood how to catch students' attention, and I learnt
how to choose the correct material (my tutor had to help me a lot with this),
and many pieces of work had to be done more than once. At first I felt a bit
frustrated, but fortunately, after trying many times, I understood what I was
being asked, which encouraged me to keep working.
To sum up, I must say that being a teacher is a fantastic profession, I
love teaching, I love teaching English! You just have to take the time to see
that it is not as easy as it seems, and that is much more exciting than what
can be seen from the outside.
Like an unknown person said "La docencia es la única profesión que
crea a todas las otras profesiones"* and that is priceless.
