LENZ'S LAWOF INDUCTION
HEINS' LAWOF INDUCTION
This document will explain Lenz's Law of Induction and how this Law can be circumvented by
introducing a Load Current Delay into the circuit in a Salient Pole electric generator design.
By extension the Theory of Conservation of Energy is also made obsolete.
Lenz's Law of Induction
According to Faraday's Law, whenever the flux threading through or linking a closed circuit is
changed, an emf is induced which causes a current to flow in the circuit. The direction of the
induced current has a definite relation to the variation of the field that produces it. This relation
is formalized by lenz's law of induction, which may be stated as follows:
An induced emf will cause a current to flow in a closed circuit in such a direction that its
magnetic effect will oppose the change that produces it.
This rule follows directly from the Law of Conservation of Energy; that is, to cause an induced
current to flow requires the expenditure of energy.
In the case of a generator, for example, when the induced current is caused to flow through a
load connected to the generator, electric energy is expended.
The field produced by the current is always in a direction so that it reacts with the main
generator field, to oppose the turning action of the prime mover driving the generator.
Thus, the greater the electric energy supplied to the load, the greater is the reaction and in
turn the greater is the mechanical energy required from the prime mover. Energy must be
supplied to the generator at the same rate that it is being taken from the generator.

Mathematically an electric generator Energy Conversion Efficiency governed by Lenz's
Law is expressed as;
Efficiency = Electrical Power Output/ Mechanical Input Increase x 100
Example: If the electrical output power delivered to the load is 9 Watts and
the required mechanical input power increase was 10 Watts the efficiency would be,
Efficiency = 9 / 10 x 100 = 90%

Heins' Law of Induction

This rule follows directly from the Law of Creation of Energy; that is, to cause an induced
current to flow does not require the expenditure of energy.
In the case of a generator, for example, when the delayed induced current is caused to flow
through a load connected to the generator, electric energy is expended.
The delayed magnetic field produced by the current is always in a direction so that it reacts
with the main generator field, to assist the turning action of the prime mover driving the
generator.
Thus, the greater the electric energy supplied to the load, the greater is the reaction and in
turn the less mechanical energy is required from the prime mover. Energy does not need to
be supplied to the generator at the same rate that it is being taken from the generator.
Mathematically an electric generator Energy Conversion Efficiency governed by

Example: If the electrical output power delivered to the load is 9 Watts and

Generator Action of a Motor (and How Energy CAN and IS being Created)
As the armature of a generator is rotated by a prime mover, a torque is developed in the
generator opposing the turning action of the prime mover. This countertorque may be
considered to be a motor action in a generator. (Electric Circuits and Machines (Chapter 9-4),
Sixth Edition 1945, Eugene C. Lister)
ERROR OF OMMISSION / FLAW IN THE ABOVE LOGIC since 1835
According to the Work Energy Principle,
• Torque is Work
• and Work in any direction
• requires Energy
• because energy is the currency required to do work in any direction.
Therefore,
• when an electric generator develops a counter-electromotive-torque
• and does work
• opposing the turning action of the prime mover
• energy must be present in the system somewhere
The energy required to do the work (aka torque) which opposes the turning action of the
prime mover is created by the magnetic field surrounding the current bearing wires inside the
generator.
Conclusion / Correction of the above statement,
• As the armature of a generator is rotated by a prime mover,
• and current flows from the generator armature to the load
• a torque is developed in the generator armature
• by the magnetic field energy that is created
• around each current bearing wire inside the generator.
• This torque does work opposing the turning action of the prime mover.
• Torque cannot exist without energy and because torque is being created
• Energy is also created.

FOR SALIENT POLE GENERATOR OPERATION
INCORPORATING A LOAD CURRENT DELAY
When a salient pole generator coil in a closed circuit is
correctly wound, the induced current will be sufficiently
delayed such that the corresponding magnetic field created
by the induced current will also be delayed and will assist
the original inducing magnetic field that caused it.
When a salient pole generator coil in a closed circuit is sufficiently wound:
1. Each successive pair of the inductor winding will operate in an identical fashion to the
Conductive Plates of a Multiple Parallel Plate Capacitor with the air gap between the windings
acting as the Dialectic.
2. The initial winding layer of the winding pair will build up a positive charge with a negative
charge being built on the successive winding layer.
3. When the generator coil's Self Induced Capacitance is maximized in this fashion, the
generator coil winding (pairs) will charge and store potential energy internally and
capacitively between each of the winding pairs/ plates as a voltage potential and electric
current will not flow to the load.
4. During the approach of the generator armature's rotating magnetic field pole the coil
although connected to a load, will not produce a
generator armature reaction because no load current
exists.
5. Once the generator rotor's approaching magnetic field
pole reaches its apex in relation to the generator coil's
core, the internally and capacitively stored voltage will
then be instantly discharged through the generator coil
and through the closed circuit.
6. The load current and the induced magnetic field
created will be delayed from fully manifesting itself
by the coil's inductive five time constant rise time.
7. When the induced load current is delayed in this
fashion - until the generator armature's rotating

magnetic field pole has already proceeded past the generator coil's core, the induced
magnetic field creation is also delayed.
8. The generator armature's rotating magnetic field pole's departure from the coil is assisted
and accelerated.
9. The approaching opposite field pole on the rotating generator armature is assisted and
accelerated.
10. The magnetic field produced by the current is always in a direction so that it reacts with the
main generator field, to assist the turning action of the prime mover driving the generator.
11. Thus, the greater the electric energy supplied to the load, the greater the is the
complementary electromotive reaction and in turn the mechanical energy required to be
supplied from the prime mover is reduced accordingly.

Lenz's Law & Heins' Law of induction for Electric Generators

  • 1. LENZ'S LAWOF INDUCTION HEINS' LAWOF INDUCTION This document will explain Lenz's Law of Induction and how this Law can be circumvented by introducing a Load Current Delay into the circuit in a Salient Pole electric generator design. By extension the Theory of Conservation of Energy is also made obsolete. Lenz's Law of Induction According to Faraday's Law, whenever the flux threading through or linking a closed circuit is changed, an emf is induced which causes a current to flow in the circuit. The direction of the induced current has a definite relation to the variation of the field that produces it. This relation is formalized by lenz's law of induction, which may be stated as follows: An induced emf will cause a current to flow in a closed circuit in such a direction that its magnetic effect will oppose the change that produces it. This rule follows directly from the Law of Conservation of Energy; that is, to cause an induced current to flow requires the expenditure of energy. In the case of a generator, for example, when the induced current is caused to flow through a load connected to the generator, electric energy is expended. The field produced by the current is always in a direction so that it reacts with the main generator field, to oppose the turning action of the prime mover driving the generator. Thus, the greater the electric energy supplied to the load, the greater is the reaction and in turn the greater is the mechanical energy required from the prime mover. Energy must be supplied to the generator at the same rate that it is being taken from the generator. Electric Circuits and Machines (Chapter 7-4), Sixth Edition 1945, Eugene C. Lister Mathematically an electric generator Energy Conversion Efficiency governed by Lenz's Law is expressed as; Efficiency = Electrical Power Output/ Mechanical Input Increase x 100 Example: If the electrical output power delivered to the load is 9 Watts and the required mechanical input power increase was 10 Watts the efficiency would be, Efficiency = 9 / 10 x 100 = 90%

Energy does not need to be supplied to the generator at the same rate that it is being taken from the generator. Mathematically an electric generator Energy Conversion Efficiency governed by Heins' Law is expressed as; Efficiency = Electrical Power Output/ Mechanical Input Increase x 100 Example: If the electrical output power delivered to the load is 9 Watts and the required mechanical input power increase was 0 Watts the efficiency would be, Efficiency = 9 / 0 x 100 = infinite%

LENZ'S LAWOF INDUCTION HEINS' LAWOF INDUCTION Generator Action of a Motor (and How Energy CAN and IS being Created) As the armature of a generator is rotated by a prime mover, a torque is developed in the generator opposing the turning action of the prime mover. This countertorque may be considered to be a motor action in a generator. (Electric Circuits and Machines (Chapter 9-4), Sixth Edition 1945, Eugene C. Lister) ERROR OF OMMISSION / FLAW IN THE ABOVE LOGIC since 1835 According to the Work Energy Principle, • Torque is Work • and Work in any direction • requires Energy • because energy is the currency required to do work in any direction. Therefore, • when an electric generator develops a counter-electromotive-torque • and does work • opposing the turning action of the prime mover • energy must be present in the system somewhere The energy required to do the work (aka torque) which opposes the turning action of the prime mover is created by the magnetic field surrounding the current bearing wires inside the generator. Conclusion / Correction of the above statement, • As the armature of a generator is rotated by a prime mover, • and current flows from the generator armature to the load • a torque is developed in the generator armature • by the magnetic field energy that is created • around each current bearing wire inside the generator. • This torque does work opposing the turning action of the prime mover. • Torque cannot exist without energy and because torque is being created • Energy is also created.

LENZ'S LAWOF INDUCTION HEINS' LAWOF INDUCTION HEINS' LAWOF INDUCTION FOR SALIENT POLE GENERATOR OPERATION INCORPORATING A LOAD CURRENT DELAY When a salient pole generator coil in a closed circuit is correctly wound, the induced current will be sufficiently delayed such that the corresponding magnetic field created by the induced current will also be delayed and will assist the original inducing magnetic field that caused it. When a salient pole generator coil in a closed circuit is sufficiently wound: 1. Each successive pair of the inductor winding will operate in an identical fashion to the Conductive Plates of a Multiple Parallel Plate Capacitor with the air gap between the windings acting as the Dialectic. 2. The initial winding layer of the winding pair will build up a positive charge with a negative charge being built on the successive winding layer. 3. When the generator coil's Self Induced Capacitance is maximized in this fashion, the generator coil winding (pairs) will charge and store potential energy internally and capacitively between each of the winding pairs/ plates as a voltage potential and electric current will not flow to the load. 4. During the approach of the generator armature's rotating magnetic field pole the coil although connected to a load, will not produce a generator armature reaction because no load current exists. 5. Once the generator rotor's approaching magnetic field pole reaches its apex in relation to the generator coil's core, the internally and capacitively stored voltage will then be instantly discharged through the generator coil and through the closed circuit. 6. The load current and the induced magnetic field created will be delayed from fully manifesting itself by the coil's inductive five time constant rise time. 7. When the induced load current is delayed in this fashion - until the generator armature's rotating

The generator armature's rotating magnetic field pole's departure from the coil is assisted and accelerated. 9. The approaching opposite field pole on the rotating generator armature is assisted and accelerated. 10. The magnetic field produced by the current is always in a direction so that it reacts with the main generator field, to assist the turning action of the prime mover driving the generator. 11. Thus, the greater the electric energy supplied to the load, the greater the is the complementary electromotive reaction and in turn the mechanical energy required to be supplied from the prime mover is reduced accordingly.
