4. We have issues to be fixed …
We need to stay better connected to alumni.
There is a weakness in Annual Giving – both continued participation and dollars.
Alumni do not always ‘relate’ to the General Fraternity (and therefore do not give).
We’re losing touch with young alumni (how to stay connected and their needs).
The Foundation is missing a big opportunity to connect and ‘be relevant’ with a large
percentage of our overall alumni population.
Better leveraging and harnessing the pool of 200,000 alumni will create value for
Undergraduates (or Collegians), Alumni and the General Fraternity – What an
Opportunity!
The new Comprehensive Strategy Was Designed to Address the Opportunities…
A new framework (or strategy) is required.
Must be consistent with LCA’s Seven Core Values.
We move from ‘Silent Partner of the Fraternity’ to ‘Active Program Participant’ – and
redefines the Foundation around its educational focus and the growth of men.
1/9/2015 4
In 2012, we identified weaknesses which needed to be
addressed to better engage alumni – with the goal of increasing
their support (time and money)
5. • Enables Members to Realize the full benefits of lifelong brotherhood
• Strengthens the long term sustainability of the Fraternity to deliver its
mission
• Enable the General Fraternity to benefit from lifelong association with
brothers
There is a need to better sustain an ongoing connection between the
General Fraternity and its alumni members after graduation.

and Benefit

Fraternal
Connection
Fraternity
• Receive Value
from Members
(time, talent &
treasure) and
experiences in
perpetuity
6. • Annual Gifts are made by only 3% of all living alumni
• Young Alumni have unmet needs for
– Interaction with the Fraternity
– Communication preferences
• The General Fraternity is focused primarily on the
programming delivered to collegians, not the balance of living
Alumni
1/9/2015 6
There exists a weakness in the ‘Fraternity/Alumni connection’ as
evidenced by annual giving data, changing Young Alumni needs and the
General Fraternity’s primary focus on collegiate programming.
7. • 200,000 Living Lambda Chi Alpha Alumni
• 130,000 Alumni with Valid, Addressable Contact Information
• 30,000 Alumni have "Ever Given" to the Fraternity in their lives
• 4,000 Contributors to the Annual Fund each year
There is a gap in the current Alumni connection to the broader
general fraternity as evidenced by Annual Fund Data.
1/9/2015 7
8. Fraternity Interaction needs are unmet but can be addressed with new
opportunities
Achieve Report - August 2012
– Do not feel connected or aware of alumni programming offered by the international
headquarters/foundation.
– Are interested in participating, but have not due to lack of awareness and options that
align with their interests.
– Need to know that their gift will make a difference regardless of size.
Communication needs can engage and retain a wider base of Alumni
JGA Assessment Report - June 2011
– Significant room for growth in participation from members under age 40
– Use of an integrated multi-channel approach can reach a wider range of brothers
– Local Area Alumni Associations can provide a linkage to the broader fraternity
– Increased segmentation and personalization will aid in engagement and retention
1/9/2015 8
Young Alumni have unmet needs for Fraternal Interaction and
communication that should be addressed.
9. • General Fraternity focus lies almost exclusively on collegiate members and
the undergraduate experience (correct priority … but missing an important
opportunity)
• Alumni interaction opportunities predominantly reside in time intensive
Alumni roles that operate in the collegial environment
– High Pi, Master Stewards, etc.
• These valued roles require extensive time commitments that are not a
match for the 200,000 alumni
The current fraternity structure focuses on collegiate members and
requires time intensive alumni roles -- a time commitment mismatch for
the 200,000 living alumni after they graduate.

11. 1/9/2015 11
By design, the new alumni development strategy makes it easier for more
alumni…to get more involved ... more often over their lifetime -- creating value
and benefit for the entire community of Brothers. Alumni are busy, have choices
to make, and we want LCA to have a greater ‘share of mind’.
12. A new ‘Alumni Development Strategy’ and resulting programs
• Strategy based on the pillars of: Connect, Educate, Fund & Invest .
• A new series of programming , some of which needed to be piloted in 2013/14.
In summary, the new approach aimed to:
• Make it easier for more alumni … to get more involved … more often over their lifetime (building a
greater ‘share of mind’ and hence, more contribution (time and money).
• Be consistent with LCA’s seven core values – and illustrate how they apply to the role of alumni.
• Move the Foundation from ‘silent partner of the Fraternity’ to ‘active program participant’ and
redefine the Foundation around its educational focus, core values and growth of men.
• Maintain the current Foundation funding focus on the collegiate experience – while growing our
capacity to fund key new projects such as the ‘Joseph T Charles Mentor Program’ to better
prepare Juniors and Seniors for ‘life’ after graduation’ (career networking, mentoring, etc).
Redefine the Foundation’s positioning among stakeholders…
• From what it is (e.g. fund raising & financial management ) …
…to what it does (support leadership educational seminars, help educate collegians …)
• Which helps to make the Foundation’s fund raising ‘proposition’ clearer and more compelling.
At the April 2013 Foundation Board meeting, we reviewed and
agreed on a new way forward
1/9/2015 12
13. Strategy Summary
Connect – Acquire and communicate with alumni in an effective way that keeps them
engaged with the Fraternity throughout their entire Brotherhood.
Educate – Engage and network alumni with programming which provides effective and
time efficient volunteer opportunities that will benefit alumni and collegians to serve
the Fraternity and our communities.
Fund & Invest – Use segmented and targeted solicitation techniques that more closely
match donor preferences in order to improve participation, retention and overall alumni
contributions which will strengthen the longer term sustainability of the Fraternity to
deliver its mission.
A summary of the new Comprehensive Strategy …
A new framework is required to better leverage and harness the pool of 200,000
alumni in order to create greater value for Alumni, Collegians and the General
Fraternity.

15. • Built on and consistent with Lambda Chi Alpha’s Seven Core Values.
• Redefining the foundation by:
– what it does – (e.g. Provide Leadership Seminars, Educate Collegians) …
– … rather than what it is, (e.g. Fund Raising & Financial Management
Institution).
• Utilize an educational focus, centered on the personal growth of men,
building a “community” of brothers -- alumni and collegians
1/9/2015 15
This new approach moves the Foundation from ‘Silent Partner of the
Fraternity’ to ‘Active Program Participant’ – and redefines the
Foundation around its educational focus and the growth of men.

world skills, structures high quality mentoring relationships,
and executes in a time efficient volunteer network to serve
Lambda Chi Alpha and our communities.
Fund – via communications and solicitation techniques that
match donor preferences to improve participation, retention
and overall contributions of time, talent & treasure.
Invest – directly supporting and strengthening the long term
sustainability of the Fraternity to deliver its mission by
investing in the Fraternity’s key programs

18. The Future State of the Educational Foundation
as recounted at a future date by one of its beneficiaries
Part 1 of 4 - As a Junior & Senior Collegian
As a Lambda Chi Alpha Junior:
I received an Lambda Chi Alpha Educational Foundation email note as a junior - and began to think more
about graduation, my future and about my resume:
• So I went to a Mentoring Academy just to listen in - I was having challenges landing a summer internship and
was looking for creative ideas
• Realized there that I could do more to prepare for Graduation - with focused activities and leadership roles
• Committed to stay more involved in leadership roles in the fraternity, when I might normally have bailed out
and moved off campus
As a Senior:
• Enrolled in the Mentoring Program and attended a Mentoring Academy
• Polished my resume and interviewing skills with my Mentor by practicing how to articulate LCA
values and how they made me a better candidate for any business
• Established a LinkedIn profile and began to build LCA business network connections in the industry
and future city where I would relocate
• Competed well for my opportunities - I was able to describe how the values, skills and expertise I
learned at LCA make me a better qualified candidate - and my practice interview with my Mentor
helped me clearly articulate my value.
• I kept my contact information up to date (email, cell phone) so I could receive information I could
use from my New Local Area Alumni Association - and not have it end up at my parent's house
• I enrolled in Give 10 - it was just $10 bucks, but a way to say thanks for the benefits I received - and
also in the hopes that others like me can receive a similar benefit
1/9/2015 18
19. The Future State of the Educational Foundation
as recounted at a future date by one of its beneficiaries
Part 2 of 4 - As a Young Alumnus
• I received information from my new Local Area Alumni Association –
before I even arrived in my new city
– Relocation Advice - current options on popular living locations, references for
local services and businesses I might need
– I Communicated with Business Professionals in my industry and joined local
Business Networks
– Joined the Local Area Alumni Association and met my LCA peers and
contemporaries - who were mostly from all over the country - people I might
never have met otherwise
• I was busy in my job, but participated in the time sensitive volunteer
opportunities offered by my Local Area Alumni Association and my local
Mentoring Academy
• I didn't feel like I had the time to serve as a Mentor, but went and spoke at
a Local Chapter meeting to Juniors and Seniors about the value of staying
connected with the Fraternity after graduation
1/9/2015 19
20. The Future State of the Educational Foundation
as recounted at a future date by one of its beneficiaries
Part 3 of 4 - As My Alumni Years Progressed
• Progressing through the various stages of life, with more and more responsibilities
of career, family, community and faith based service, I still stayed engaged -
participating when my obligations allowed in short time duration volunteer
opportunities.
• I helped lead a Mentoring Academy module - based on my skills and experiences
as a hiring manager with my firm
• I connected with lost Alumni - both from my own chapter and other chapters that I
met, and helped reconnect them to the Local Area Alumni Association and the
General Fraternity.
• I leveraged the LCA Network to continually meet new contacts, learn about new
business opportunities, investigate new industries and professions, and
understand potential career change impacts.
• I took advantage of LCA giving options that matched my donor preferences,
aligning the purpose, timing, amounts, and funding vehicles to my wishes.
1/9/2015 20
21. The Future State of the Educational Foundation
as recounted at a future date by one of its beneficiaries
Part 4 of 4 - As a Visionary Alumnus
• I sustained this engagement with the fraternity throughout my entire lifetime.
Some years I was less active than others, but in later life, I was able to provide
focused counsel and interaction as a Mentor
– both to young graduates and other Alumni
– with both professional and personal expertise.
• I was most proud to see the visible signs that my contributions of time, talent and
treasure have made to the Fraternity:
– Educating tomorrow's young leaders through Leadership Seminars, Mentoring graduating
collegians and young alumni as they prepare for the next stages of life, watching the values
the Fraternity live on in a wider group of engaged Alumni who benefit significantly from their
sustained interaction with each other.
• I was thankful to have had the opportunity to share my perspectives - or as some
said “giving them priceless wisdom gained throughout a lifetime".
– But the truth of the matter is that I am gave away nothing – rather, I invested in tomorrow's
world. These men will become the future leaders of tomorrow's world…and hopefully, my
insights will allow them to reach even greater heights, solve more challenging issues, and
Mentor their own future leaders.

36. • A Comprehensive Educational Foundation Strategy has been developed,
capitalizing on the New Alumni Development Strategy and the momentum of the
successful “Investing in Future Leaders Campaign”.
• The Strategy is clear and focused, and future programming relevant to build
sustainable engagement and the size and quality of our donor base.
• The Funding Approach does not diminish the Foundation’s capacity to continue to
provide the required annual grants to the General Fraternity – and incremental
program costs should be covered by incremental donations after year 3.
• Careful project management should guide execution and pace, with disciplined
reviews on progress and ‘lessons learned’.
• Project Communications will be a key feature in capturing the attention and
engagement of alumni, positively influencing their commitment to contribute
time, talent and treasure to the Foundation.
