The steel industry is one of the most important industries in India.
The main environmental issues faced by Steel Industry are:
Air emissions
Wastewater
Solid Waste
With rising crude prices and depleting quality of crude, however, the level of wastewater pollutants in petroleum wastewater is at new high. Such conditions are forcing refineries to use a more advanced water treatment, water recovery methods, and robust processes that work well under a variety of conditions and can handle the changing refinery effluent flow rates. Finally a process that is economical in overall life time cost is needed to make all of this feasible. Aquatech has experience working with these refinery effluent pollutants in the refinery market and offers the advanced petroleum wastewater treatment and recovery technology necessary for the refinery’s needs.

Reverse Osmosis module design and engineering emerged with membrane technology
evolution. In order to understand module design, first membrane configuration needs to be
explored, since the module design is always tailored according to the membrane
characteristics. There is a significant difference between membrane chemistries (most
important ones being cellulose acetate and thin film composite with polyamide barrier
layer), and more importantly, between the different membrane configurations (hollow fine
fiber and flat sheet). Therefore, before looking into detail on the module configuration, the
membrane development needs to be considered.
As rapidly increasing demand for electricity day by day Refuse Derived Fuel acts as an alternative source for the production of energy. As well as it also help to reduse landfill area where the municipal solid waste is dumped. Only the non-recycleable material goes to the landfill. Refuse derived fuel can also be used as the secondary fuel for the thermal power plant when with with the pulverized coal.

2. Introduction
• Steel industry uses large amount of
water and discharges wastewater in
proportion.
• Wastewater contains SS, lubrication oils,

India Ltd. (SAIL)
3. • The total world annual production of
steel is 715.4 million tonnes of which
India contributes 14.5 million tonnes. In
India, on an average each tonne of
steel production consumes 25 to 60
cubic meters of water and 4 to 5
tonnes of other raw materials. It maytonnes of other raw materials. It may
be noted that in developed countries the
water consumption for each tonne of
steel production varies from 3 to 6 cubic
meters, i.e., 8 to 10 times less than that
of water consumption in India.
