This document summarizes a case study on the knowledge, attitudes, and practices of urban poor women in Mahaiyawa slums, Kandy, Sri Lanka regarding water and sanitation. 30 women between ages 30-40 who were mothers were interviewed. The study found that while women had basic knowledge of sanitation from primary education, their attitudes and practices differed. Many relied on public water sources and latrines. Increased population was straining sanitation infrastructure and waste disposal. Health education was recommended to change attitudes and empower women to advocate for improved sanitation.
