● Unable to avail sanitation facilities
• According to villagers every house is equipped with the
government toilets but due to lack of water supply only few people
manage to use them.
• Even if the water is available, people avoid using toilets due to their
orthodox mentality.
● Improper drainage sometimes causes clashes among neighbours.
● Water Scarcity:
• Not all people have regular supply of water and the government
sources of water are controlled by few people
• Women have to carry water in ‘handis’ (6-8 litres) from a nearby
well which is troublesome.
● Abrupt Power Cutoff

● Tax Evasion by People:
○ The Sarpanch stated the fact that villagers are least
willing to pay any tax, leading to low gram panchayat
funds.
● Less involvement in government schemes and
training programs:
○ Low payment in government initiated employment
opportunities.
○ They lose daily wages during training period as well as it
becomes difficult for them to meet travelling expenses.
● Lethargic and orthodox mentality:
○ People are self-centric and are less motivated to work for
the sake of village.
○ People still have orthodox mentality and superstitious
nature.
● Changing the mindset of people -- (Anandwan).
● Bridge the gap between villagers and the govt.
● Sustainable water use and rain water harvesting.
● Proper supply of electricity.
● Primary health care centre needs to be set up.
● Lack of facilities in Anganwadi and primary school needs to be looked upon.
● Proper sanitation and waste disposal awareness.
● Awareness about how tax payment is an investment in their own benefit.
● The importance of unity and need for collective good for the village.
● After the survey of village we reached the conclusion that water is the major
issue.
● Residents of Nawarmari village use the water from a nearby well for drinking.
● Water for farming is derived from lake via channels and water pumps.
● Government along with NGO NBSS are working on the lake deepening and
channels. So, we decided to look on the drinking water issue.
● We have collected this water sample and sent it to the Water Resources
department of VNIT for testing.

emphasised on Health, Education, Livelihood and Moral Education.
● It worked on creating a self-sustainable environment for the villagers by
employing various strategies at root level.
● Mr. Shriprakash Panda is the coordinator who actively looks on the
development activities of Nawarmari village.
Areas of Focus
➢ Swasthya
➢ Shiksha
➢ Swawalamban
➢ Sanskar
● An eloquent meeting with Mr. Shriprakash Panda gave us an insight into how a
village development model works, and also suggested some ideas for Gram Vikas.
● Those points are:
○ To work on canal development
○ To work on solar street-lamp implementation
○ To work on developing a solar study table.
○ To design a school bag equipped with solar panel
● Upon doing the village survey we observed that the village have basic infrastructure
like poles and elevated houses so we decided to gather the available information on
solar panels so that we can come up with a cheap and innovative design.
asd
● The second excursion (14th March 2018) to the village was
accompanied by Shriprakash Sir.
● The visit mainly focused on:
• Survey of solar-powered street lights.
• Survey of Dam and overhead tank.
• Sampling of water from well and overhead tank to check for
potability.
