Essay On If Life Exist On Other Planets
Since the beginning of time, humans have looked out into space and wondered, are we are alone?
This curiosity about our own place in the universe has inspired many ideas and stories that attempt
to explain how life could exist on other planets. Scientists at NASA have been discovering
evidence that suggests it may be possible for life to exist on another planetwithin our own solar
system. I have always been interested in the mysteries of the universe, and never pass up an
opportunity to learn more about it. One current theory for the possibility life on other planets
focuses on Jupiter s moon Europa, a moon the size of a small planet. What evidence is there that
life could even exist on a moon encased in ice? How could a moon so... Show more content on

Now the thickest ice on earth ever recorded is a little over 4 km thick and is located in Antarctica.
To give you some perspective, 10 kilometers is about from Citrus College to the 10 freeway, and
that s just the minimum thickness, astronomers don t know for sure yet how deep the ice actually
is. But how could liquid water exist on a planet so far from the sun?
You might be asking yourself, why isn t the moon solid ice, similar to the former planet Pluto?
Even though Europa is much further from the sun than Earth, its inner ocean is believed to have
warm water, at least warm enough to be liquid. It gets much of its heat due to Jupiter s gravity,
pulling the oceans as it makes its orbit and creates friction with the ice and the salt water ocean
underneath. This effect is similar to the tides here on Earth. Europa s liquid ocean is estimated
to contain about twice the amount of liquid water than all of Earth s oceans. Most of Earth s
oceans still remain unexplored, and the life that exists there, undiscovered. Imagine what might
exist under an ocean twice that size. Scientists suspect Europa s ocean may have enough oxygen
to be able to support life, however, according to NASA in an article published by phys.org, a
science news website, the kind of life we may expect to find (if any) would be micro organisms
similar to the single celled forms of

Dale Carnegie s How On Win Friends And Influence People
Taylor Varrato
MCB Sec. 7
30 November 2015
Dale Carnegie s How to Win Friends and Influence People I will never forget my first MCB
lecture. A large syllabus was presented, one that seemed to be jam packed with deadlines, reading
assignments, quizzes, and to my surprise extra credit assignments. Upon hearing that one of the
extra credit assignments consisted of reading a book published in 1937, I was not too thrilled.
However, after skimming through the first few pages of How to Win Friends and Influence People, I
became instantly intrigued and skimming turned into close reading. I have never been one to
read, or for that matter, one to be glued to a book, but this book really spoke to me. You see, I am
currently going to school to become ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Of course I never meant any harm, but there have been several periods of time when she has
resented me for it. Not only have I made others resent me at times, but I have resented others for
being criticized. Just recently, I received a B on an English paper that I put hours into. Obviously,
I am not the best writer, but I put a lot of work into that paper and consulted with the professor
multiple times before handing it in. Now, I understand that constructive criticism is necessary in
order to enhance one s writing skills, but the professor had absolutely nothing good to say about
my writing. This made me resent class, resent seeing her, resent doing reading assignments, and
above all resent writing. The key word here is resent. Carnegie sums this up well by saying,
Criticism is dangerous, because it wounds a person s precious pride, hurts his sense of importance,
and arouses resentment (23). This ties together two points, the emphasis on one s sense of
importance and resentment. Going off of this idea of criticism, I like how Carnegie touched upon
it later in the book. Another principle of his is: Talk about your own mistakes before criticizing
the other person. This is such a key principle because, as stated above, criticism is necessary in
some cases. The hard part about criticism is that it can invoke feelings of resentment. Therefore, in
order to provide criticism in

The Problem Of Drug Addicts
Currently, the society is employing a significant amount of money and efforts to deal with the
continuous increasing of drug addicts within their roots. In fact, the drug problem can be
considered by the majority as the greatest problem of the 21th century. Just look, on how it
worsened in the last years. Now, it seems that the range of consumers has expanded, and now is
embracing almost all ages and classes. In fact, the teens are making the drugs seem like a fashion
trend, in which those who do not follow it will be excluded. Considering this fact, and relating it to
the need of the human being to feel accepted by the society or a group, helps to understand why the
number of drugaddicts is increasing.

Considering the criteria cited above, I had two ideas a comic book or a videogame; but, in the
attempt of minimizing as much as possible the costs of the proposal, without compromising the
effectiveness of the same, I chose the comic book.
I Previous Solution Surely, because of the severity of the drug problem, several solutions were
extrapolated and implemented in the attempt to deal with it. However, ones were more efficient
than others, but at the same time, none of them represented a real solution for a long time project.
For instance, in the article The War On Drugs ... , written by Ewan Hoyle, which is the founder of
the Liberal Democrats for Drug Policy Reform, there are several solutions to deal with the drug
problem, but each one of them has its constraints (303). One of them, and it was the chosen solution
by the author, included a treatment with diamorphine, which is a pharmaceutical drug that changes
the neurological system and inhibit the desires of the consumer (303). Even though it seems an
extreme measure, the article showed that it carried a high percentage of success on the sample
trials. On the other hand, such measure seems to carry a lot of constraints related to the costs. For
the costs, even Hoyle stated that this treatment was expensive (304). In his attempt, to back up it,
Hoyle stated that the government must do a revision of its policies in a way that facilitate the
market for this medicine (304). Well, the

Penny Lab Report
During this experiment, one penny stayed almost the same, while the other one turned green
and completely changed. The experiments started with two cups. One was labeled water, while
the other one was labeled vinegar. In each cup, paper towels were placed at the bottom. In the
cup labeled vinegar, vinegar was added and in the cup labeled water, water was added. Then, one
penny was placed in each cup and observed on a span of four days. On the first day, penny A (cup
with water) looked the same. Penny B (cup with vinegar) had a strong smell and the penny looked
shinier. Later on in the week, penny A looked a little brown but mainly stayed the same. Penny B
had some bubbles, rusting, and started to become darker. Toward the end of the experiment,... Show

The first error that might have occurred was that the water and vinegar might have been
covering the entire penny and the penny might not have been exposed to enough air. If the
penny was not exposed to enough air, then the penny could have reacted differently toward the
experiment. The paper towels were dry towards the end of the experiment and more water and
vinegar was not added to the cups. This could have affected the way the penny was affected.
With more water and vinegar, the pennies may have gotten more green or may have has a
stronger reaction. At the end of the experiment, the pennies were taken out of the cups and
placed a new paper towel. The towel was then labeled with sharpies and left to sit there for a day.
The different chemicals in the sharpies could have affected the way the penny reacted. Since the
sharpie marker was so close to the pennies, they could have easily been affected. Another
experiment that people may want to do next is to the same experiment, but with different liquids.
Instead of the vinegar being white vinegar, maybe one could try the experiment with a different
type of vinegar, like apple cider vinegar. Apple cider vinegar has different ingredients and could be
affected differently and have very different results. To conclude, there were many possible errors
during this experiment and many scientific reasons on why the pennies reacted the way they

Importance Of Biostatistics And A Critique
Importance of Biostatistics and a Critique
Biostatistics is an integral component of numerous developments particularly in technology and
modern medicine today. With biostatistics, we can gather data, analyze it, create a hypothesis,
test its validity and make a conclusion. This is essential because if we can make an inference
from a sample that represents a large population, not only we are able to save time, cost and effort
but we are able to arrive to a conclusion that could help us develop alternative treatments or tools in
the future. For instance, in concept practice 4, we assessed the usefulness of the iPhone rhinoplasty
app for the preoperative assessment of surgery. In this concept practice, we learned how to use

A mean plot provides a visual comparison of means and standard deviations which includes centers
and spreads (Daddysman, Multiple Sample Studies: Summaries and Estimation, 2017). A box plot
is a graphical representation of the five number summary...the minimum, 1st quartile range, median,
3rd quartile range, and the maximum (Daddysman, One Sample Studies: Summaries, 2017). And a
scatterplot graphically represents two variable relationships...describing its form, direction and
strength (Daddysman, Simple Linear Regression: Inference and Reporting, 2017). For instance,
based on our graph in concept practice 9, we ve learned the relationship between our slope and our
two variables number of logins and the HBA1c results. As the number of logins increase by 1 unit,
the hbA1c results decrease by .0067. Each graphical summary is important in understanding and
comparing two variables to describe gathered data, determining differences and arriving to a
conclusion.
Biostatistics also taught us how to recognize study designs and write a summary and critique. This
is helpful because it identifies positive and negative aspects of the study and an opportunity for
other people to replicate the study and improve it. For instance, on the 26th of June 2017, I
submitted a summary and critique about hand washing. This article was a replication of a previous
study and an extension

Grendel s Claw In Beowulf Essay
What did Grendel s claw serve as a symbol for ?
In Beowulf, Beowulf had ripped Grendel s arm off by hand ; Beowulf had the grip of thirty men
when all swords was useless against Grendel he ripped Grendel s arm off. The purpose of ripping
Grendel s arm off was because Grendel had attacked Heorot after King Hrothgar left Beowulf in
charge. This was the first time King Hrothgar let anyone in charge of Heorot Hall and Beowulf
wanted to make sure that he do his duty good. So as Beowulf and the Geats lie down to sleep
waiting for Grendel s attack everyone is expecting to die. Beowulf decided to fight Grendel with
his bare hands since Grendel does not use weapons to fight. Then comes Grendel with the attack
and he raised his arm for the attack but before he does anything Beowulf grabs his arm which made
Grendel panic because he never met anyone stronger than him, which led to them wrestling and
destroying furniture and all. Beowulf s men tried to help Beowulf by using their weapons but they

Grendel s claw also has another meaning, to his mother his claw symbolizes sadness for her son
that she loved. It shows her how sickening that human beings are and she eventually retrieved her
revenge by killing innocent people. Grendel s mother saw the claw as a symbol of the loss of her
son, she was filled with grief and rage which caused her to go and retrieve her son s arm from
Heorot. Then that is when she had started to kill innocent people for revenge for the death of her
son. Beowulf decides to track down Grendel s mother and as he track her down he ends up in her
underwater cave. Grendel honestly at this point is not paying the claw any mind as he takes
notice of Grendel s head which he seems to find more impressive. Beowulf also ignores the treasure
and chooses to take Grendel s huge head back as a symbol of his victory of both

Marijuana Informative Speech
Howdy, today Sara, Shelby, Jessica, Royce and I will be discussing why the rise of marijuana is
so popular in the world and United States, as well as some of the issues within the United States
that are specific with marijuana.
Introduction:
Attention: I want you to think about what comes to your mind when you hear the word marijuana
and how your thought would vary if you lived 4,000 years ago. I am sure you were not thinking
about the cannabis plant that could also produce more beneficial worldwide items such as fabric
and fiber, lighting oil, or even paper.
Thesis Statement: Today my focus will not be on the positive and negatives of the marijuana drug,
however for the next few minutes I will inform you about the importance of the past global ... Show

According to the 2010 National Drug Strategy Household Survey, 35.4% of the Australian
population reported using cannabis at some time in their lives, with 10.3% having used it in the last
12 months. Even more astonishing news that was reported from this survey was that of the
Australian population that was surveyed more than 700,000 Australians used cannabis in the
previous week. ( What is Cannabis )
Transition to second main point: Now that we understand the cannabis plant and how global this
plant is, we will now narrow our attention to where marijuana comes from, let us dive into how
marijuana became such a popular drug worldwide.
2.Throughout the last ninety five years, marijuana has become the reason for governments
worldwide to spend billions of dollars in order to stop war on drugs , but many wonder how
marijuana even became so popular in global society.
a.According to criminal defense lawyer, Bruce Alan Block, he says that Marijuana was used as a
medicinal herb by the ancient Chinese, Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans for stomach ailments,
cramps, and pain. (Block)
i.Bruce then leads on to talk about how the drug marijuana was spread throughout Europe was
during war and trading with allies during the conquests in the Mediterranean.

Peter Paul Rubens The Consequences Of War
In 1638, Peter Paul Rubens painted The Consequences of War as an allegory for the mood in
Europe towards the Thirty Years War. The Thirty Years War was a series of wars throughout
Europe that decimated cities and cultures. The wars were mainly due to a feud between Protestants
and Catholics after the Counter Reformation. The wars began in 1618 and lasted until 1648, so
Rubens work of art, The Consequences of War, couldn t have come at a more powerful or influential
time. Furthermore, Flanders, the location where Rubens lived at the time, was in the midst of the
war. Flanders was its own army at the time, and there were numerous horrific battles in the area,
which brought out chaos amongst the Flanders citizens. Everyone was frightened for their... Show

It is around 6 feet tall and 12 feet long which makes some of the more prominent figures around 5
feet tall. The mood created and the size are two very Baroque aspects that Rubens includes in
order to make the viewer feel connected to the work of art more. Additionally, each figure tells
their own story, but each of their individual stories adds to the overall theme. First, there is a
woman figure on the far left who is a personified version of Europe. The woman is in despair,
flailing her arms up, and has tears in her eyes. This represents the mood of all the European
citizens throughout the Thirty Years War, and if a viewer looks at her they would feel
connected on an emotional level. Next, there is Venus who is desperately trying to hold back
her lover Mars from inevitably going to war. Venus is portrayed as a beautiful, nearly nude figure
who is highlighted with lots of light. Rubens includes lots of diagonals to show movement in the
image, and to show how the story being told is not over another very Baroque characteristic.
Another crucial figure is Mars, the God of War. Mars is headed off to war, being pulled by Fury

Differences Between The New England Colonies
The New World was divided into three parts known as the New England Colonies, Middle
Colonies, and Southern Colonies. These colonies were established for many reasons to benefit the
settlers who were coming from countries around the world. Most of their motives were similar, but
others were very different. Specifically, the New England Coloniesand the Southern were similar
and different in many aspects concerning their religion, politics, and economics.
The New England Colonies differed from the Southern colonies in their religious practices. In the
New England Colonies religion played a major defining role in all aspects of their lives while the
Southern colonies did not take religion into consideration quite as much. The establishment of the
New England colonies was different from the South because their main objective was to establish
safe places for those fleeing England from possible religious persecutions. In the book, A Patriot s
History, the authors stated, But the Pilgrims rightly hold a place of high esteem in America history,
largely because unlike Virginia settlement in the New World solely in the name of their Christian
faith (Schweikart, Allen, 2004, pg. 31). The New World was established with religious motives.
Roger Williams and his supporters founded Rhode Island in 1636 with the goal of finding land
where they could practice their own religion with separation of church from state. During the

The Vengeful Miss Havisham
The Vengeful Miss Havisham Great Expectations.
In Great Expectations, by Charles Dickens, Miss Havisham is a complex character whose past
remains a mystery. We know about her broken engagement, an event that changes her life forever.
Miss Havisham desperately wants revenge, and Estella, her adopted daughter, is the perfect tool to
carry out her motives. With her plan of revenge in mind, Miss Havisham deliberately raises Estella
to avoid emotional attachment and treat those who love her with cruelty. A specific quote in the
book, where Miss Havisham tells Pip that he must love Estella at all costs, sheds light on Miss
Havisham s vengeful character. One can draw parallels from the life of Miss Havisham to the life

Arthur wants to get back at his half sister for being cheated out of the brewery business, and Miss
Havisham and Estella want to seek revenge on all men who love Estella. Estella is being trained to
ruin the lives of men, just as Miss Havisham s fiancГ© ruined hers.
In Miss Havisham s address to Pip, she tells him to love Estella even if she wounds him. Perhaps
the reason that she stops the clocks, never changes out of her yellowing wedding gown, and keeps
the rotting wedding cake is to perpetuate her hope that her fiancГ© will return.
This means that either Miss Havisham still loves Compeyson or that she is simply throwing a
drastic temper tantrum. It is obvious that Miss
Havisham is a deeply wounded woman: her outlook on life is dismal and desolate. She has not
ventured out into the daylight for fifty years, shutting out the rest of the world. Time means
nothing to her, for she has nothing to do and no friends to see. Her transformation from a
passionate young woman in love to an old, hardened, and lonely woman is a great one. There is an
obvious parallel between Miss Havisham and
Pip in this regard: just as Miss Havisham was spurned by her fiancГ©,
Estella has broken Pip s heart. Miss Havisham, in trying to seek personal revenge, has only caused
more pain and heartbreak.
Next, Miss Havisham tells Pip to love Estella even if she tears his heart to pieces.

The Theme Of Citizen Kane
Identity is an essential part of all our lives. Our actions determine our identity, and in turn, our
identity structures our actions. One s desire to seek a self identity is an essential for the
alignment of his or her pursuit of happiness. However, when such desire to fulfill one s standards
grows too strong, one might neglect other parts of his or her life. This neglect could lead to graver
consequences, such as one s sensations of failure and even his own downfall. In movie Citizen Kane

Summary Of FlandersArticle On Prostitution In Victorian...
Flanders article on prostitution in Victorian London focuses on the misinformation and
misconceptions surrounding sex workers of that era, especially focusing on how unreliable the
numbers involved can be. She approaches the topic with three main arguments in mind: the
supposed amount of prostitutes and the evolution of what defines a prostitute, how women are
frequently mistaken for prostitutes based upon their appearance, and the often looked over
presence of male prostitutes. Within her article she presents multiple primary sources including:
diary entries discussing encounters with prostitutes, letters detailing how women were leered at and
the public s response to such incidents, and even some authors. It is when she first introduces her
argument as a whole that she discusses the questionability of the reported number of prostitutes in
Victorian London. Flanders first begins by discussing the sheer numbers involved in what is known
of prostitutionin 19th century London. That being said, what is recorded is not what one would
refer to as an accurate depiction of how commonplace prostitution was. Flanders takes a moment in
the article to highlight a primary source, that being in this particular instance a statement made by a
police magistrate that claimed there were 50,000 prostitutes in London (Flanders). She then
explains that this number is likely inaccurate as prostitution carried a broader meaning during that
time period than it does today. Specifically, in

Through her use of plot, Danticat shows how deeply and strongly trauma can affect a person.
One way the plot supports this theme is through conflict. After a while of living with Sophie,
Martine begins to suspect her of having a boyfriend. She then begins to test Sophie, as well as
emotionally neglecting her. This affects Sophie deeply, enough to drive her to a drastic act of
self harm: she breaks her own hymen with a pestle. Sophie describes the deed: My flesh ripped
apart as I pressed the pestle into it. I could see the blood dripping down onto the bed sheet. I took
the pestle and bloody sheet and stuffed them into a bag. It was gone, the veil that always held
my mother s finger back every time she tested me (88). This illustrates the lengths Sophie would
go to in order to escape her mother s abuse, as well as the strength of her resolve. She completed
her act with the resolution of carrying a scar forever. From this quote, it can be inferred that
Sophie felt so cornered she felt injuring herself was her only way out. As the book progresses,
Sophie must face her own feelings about her mother, who has sexually and emotionally abused her.
Her conflict is focused on her struggle to figuring out how to interact with her mother,

Transactional Analysis Childhood
Transactional analysis has allowed me to realize my childhood has an impact on my behavior
and decisions as an adult. Growing up my family had rules and regulations for children and most
of them currently affect me. I believe I am silent in certain situations, because of the way I was
raised. Growing up I was taught that children are to be seen and not heard. This regulation made
me believe as a child I did need to talk to everyone and be social, because they saw me. I used my

The Internet And The Development Of The World Wide Web
During the 1990s, people have generally used computers to write papers, play games, and track
business productivity; however, this was not use for communication, research, shopping and online
banking. Tim Berners Lee has changed how individuals use the Internet may access the World Wide
Web. This presented paper highlights the history of the Internet and the development of the World
Wide Web. It also describes the masterminds who created and developed the Web, enabled its
popularization through the Web browser, and greatly improved its value by enabling web search.
With the whole technology advances and changes, the differences between the first generation,
Web 1.0 and Web 2.0 is also important to consider because it does affect the use of the Internet, as
well as education philosophy changes. An economic bubble happens whenever the price of an asset
soars then plummets over a certain period of time. The United States market s dot com bubble
began in April 1997 and ended in June 2003. In the aftermath of the bubble burst, there were many
companies that survived such as Amazon and Google; however, dot com businesses such as
pet.com and webvan.com have failed during the burst. During this period, competition was great,
where much of the social gain from the Internet was passed to the consumers, leaving little surplus
in the hands of the investors.

Physical Therapy For Becoming A Physical Therapist
Physical therapy is a passion for helping disabled people able to move parts of their body again.
One would need physical therapy if they hurt their joints or spine. One must want to pursue a
career in physical therapy to become a physical therapist. If one doesn t have the people skills to
become a physical therapist then don t become one, because they will be around people all the time.
Physical therapist will have patients that didn t wanta physical therapist, but was required by the
hospital. With physical therapyone is committed to helping others. One would have to want to
work with others and want to help them. One needs to be helped if they hurt their arms from
like crashes or sports injuries. They probably were recommended by a doctor to go to that therapist.
Their injuries were probably required by their doctor because they didn t know if they were going
to be able to move it again. Physical therapy would be good for one if one is a people person.
If one is doing physical therapy they will need the right education. One will need an
undergraduate degree in a related field and then a masters or doctoral degree in physical therapy.
One will have five or more years to become a physical therapist. One will have to get a license to
be a physical therapist because all states require a license to do physical therapy. There wouldn t be
much training for them to do. One will have to gain clinical experience working with patients
before practicing on their own. One

Social Justice Issue Of Suicide Prevention Essay
For this online assignment, I am going to be focusing on the social justice issue of suicide
prevention. This is a social justice issue because it affects the community as a whole, not just the
person who is experiencing suicidal ideation. Looking at the issue from the bigger picture can help
to establish more effective prevention methods.
Question #1 I would give myself a rating of 9 with how willing I am to allow the issue of suicide
prevention to be questioned and refuted by scientific evidence. Through my experience, which I
will talk about in the next question, most of the work that goes into organized suicide prevention
efforts is based off of research. With the combination of this knowledge, my personal experience
working with suicide prevention/crisis counseling, and my fierce passion for mental health and
suicide prevention, I would have no problem allowing the use of scientific evidence when looking
at and/or refuting the issue of suicide prevention.
Question #2 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My knowledge of suicide prevention comes from what I have been taught or told, personal
experience, and research I have done for various classes. I am trained in ASIST (Applied Suicide
Intervention Skills Training), which I know was developed and backed by research. Most of
what I have learned about suicide prevention has been taught to me based on research not
necessarily me spending time on my own researching. I have researched several articles
pertaining to suicide prevention, but most of those have been for research papers I have been
working on for classes. A few times, though, I have looked up scientific evidence pertaining to
suicide prevention on my own. I am not a big fan of the research process, honestly, so taking time
to do it recreationally is a huge deal for

Captain Aimee Le Medec Research Paper
No words can describe the cloud of sorrow that hangs over Halifax and surrounding areas.
December 6th, 1917 will forever mark a tragedy in our history. I am very blessed that my
business and I survived the explosion, but I too am still grieving the loved ones I lost. As I walk
down to what once was known as the Richmond District of Halifax, it hard to imagine that a
street was once here, a home there, because all that is visible now is debris. Debris that is
covered with a light blanket of snow on this cold January day. Nestled in the heart of Halifax lies
the legendary harbour. The day is December 6th, 1817. It seems as if it is a normal day in
Halifax. The two ships that caused the explosion were the Imo and the Mont Blanc . The Mont
Blanc was a French general cargo and a munitions ship owned by Cie Generale Transatlantique.

First, I think that Captain Aimee Le Medec is ultimately to blame because he abandoned ship.
He could of prevented the explosion through many different ways such as opening the hatches or
turning the boat back to sea. Instead he did none of these. In addition Captain Aimee Le Medec
blatantly ignored putting the red flag up on the Mont Blanc. For 20 minutes crowds collected
around Halifax Harbour to watch the billowing smoke filled with sparks and fire as the Mont
Blanc drifted towards the wharf. If the red flag was up then these people would have been
warned that there were munitions on board and the people would of had a chance to run from the
wharf. Finally I that Captain Aimee Le Medec is ultimately to blame because he could have moved
the ship towards port when the Mont Blanc encountered the Imo in the narrow harbour. Instead he
entered a state of shock, ordering the crew to abandon ship. I feel that Captain Aimee Le Medec
never took initiative to stop this tragedy which he should feel ashamed

one of the most common approaches to organizing a family enterprise is a circle of relatives

Essay on The Evolution of Science Fiction
Despite decades between their writings, the similarities between H.G. Wells and P.K. Dick are
numerous and include the fact that both authors were far ahead of their time, had aspirations
regarding the universe and a future electronic era to come, had a theme revolving around a distant
planet, and challenged humanity. Both science fictionauthors were beyond their time. Wells had
the capability of lifting up our fathers hearts with hopes, exciting them with the feeling that a new
world was at the point of being born and they were to inherit it (Dickson 17). Throughout all of his
works, P.K. Dick focused on conveying the truth of his many faceted visions without regard for

Both life experiences and his new found interest were incorporated into one of his writings titled

Before Deckard gets the chance to capture and destroy his first android, he is informed that a

cop as a Soviet. The protagonist as a bounty hunters is a representation of his work with the FBI

The Nazi Party Essay examples
The Nazi Party
During the 1930s, the Nazi Regime attempted to construct what it believed to be a utopian
society. The Nazis rise to power can be viewed as a modern revolution, in which their objective to
create an ideal Nazi Volksgemeinschaft (community of people) was achieved by highly regulating
all areas of German life. From the arts and literature to sexual activity and race relations, the Nazi
Party implemented legislation that restricted what the German public could see, hear, read, do and
even think! The Nazis were able to maintain control over the masses through propaganda, codified
and unwritten values, and destructive actions (Night of Broken Glass) that actually determined the

Many Germans were already used to segregating men and women based on their gender
differences by placing them into traditional, yet separate, roles. Hitler uses the public s tendency
to create a social divide between males and females as his reasoning, or logic, for creating a
more extreme barrier between Aryans and Jews. Some of the similarities of Hitler s two speeches
are as follows. In both speeches, Hitler makes a clear distinction between two groups of people,
emphasizes the separation of these groups (women from men, Jews from Aryans), and claims that
this separation will in both cases lead to a heightened understanding between the groups. Both
speeches illustrate and support Nazi ideology on grounds of nature. Both are nation oriented. And
finally, in both speeches Hitler attempts to eliminate one of the two groups (women in the first
speech, Jews in the second) from the public sphere and political arena. Moreover, the
characteristics that these two speeches have in common function in a way that endorse Nazi ideals
and illustrate Hitler s oppressive control over Germany, while preserving an image of legitimized
authority.
In both speeches, Hitler mentions two distinct groups of people and determines their
responsibilities in order to explicate which groups should and should not occupy social positions. In
his speech to the National Socialist Women s section, he clearly distinguishes between women and
men. Hitler even places men and women

Scarlet Letter Hypocrisy
Puritanism was an early 17th century religion that branched off of Protestantism. The people who
followed this religion were expected to live an earnest life.Though it seemed that the Puritans knew
their religion very well and followed all the customs and practices, there was much hypocrisy.
Author Arthur Miller and Nathaniel Hawthorne depict this contradiction in their novels The
Crucible and The Scarlet Letter. In the Scarlet Letter, Hawthorne uses a resentful tone to describe
the feeling of being a hypocrite. Else, I should long ago have thrown off these garments of mock
holiness, and have shown myself to mankind as they will see me at the judgment seat. Happy are
you, Hester, that wear the scarlet letter openly upon your bosom! Mine burns... Show more content

Dimmsdale was thought to be a true priest, a true religionist, with the reverential sentiment
largely developed, and an order of mind that impelled itself powerfully along the track of a creed

questions asked. In The Crucible, Abigail tries to make people believe she is an innocent child
but she is actually one of the biggest hypocrites in the story. I want to open myself!... I want the

she kisses the hand of death. Miller uses a ironic tone to depict the hypocrisy of Abigail. Abigail

Representative Peter DeFazio s Party Unity Score Discussion
In 2013, Rep. Peter DeFazio s (D, OR 4) party unity score was 94% (Weyl, 183). Party unity as
defined in the textbook, Congress and Its Members, are votes in which the majority of voting
Republicans oppose a majority of voting Democrats. In other words, average votes Peter DeFazio
casted with the Democratic majority against the Republican majority. Furthermore, party affiliation
as well as ideological positions, and the constituency pressure are strongly correlated with
congressmen s votingdecisions (Davidson, Oleskek, Lee 2014, 255). The roll callvote that I chose
to calculate the party unity score of Rep. DeFazio was the roll call vote named Disaster
Supplement Fish and Wildlife Construction. This roll call concerned a bill named Super Storm
Sandy Disaster Aid. The purpose of the roll call was to determine if hinder funding for the Fish
and Wildlife Service (FWS) to repair seawalls and buildings on wildlife refuges that are damaged
by a natural disaster. The reduction of funds to the FWS by $9.8 million was another main point
of the roll call vote. This roll call voting would determine how much funding would be provided
to FWS to help the communities affect by Hurricane Sandy as well as other damaged wildlife
refuges across the nation. In this issue, Rep, DeFazio voted nay along with 189 Democrats.
However, the outcome of the voting was 216 to 205 in favor of the Republican Party (CQ Weekly,

Changes in Arabic Societies During teh 20th Century
The early 20th century saw major changes in Arabic societies, which initiated a new cultural
order that changed the lives of men and women alike. The sweeping changes associated with this
period were catalyzed by a massive immigration from the countryside into the rapidly expanding
urban centers of the region. There exist a variety of contributing factors to this migration:
systems of land inheritance that fragmented land into smaller parcels (decreasing an already
declining income per capita); the world wide economic crisis of the 1930s that further crippled
the income of farmers, and the disappearance of sustainable jobs. As a result, millions of rural
dwelling peoples flocked to the cities where the prospect of employment was most probable. The
population of cities such as Cairo grew at an even faster rate than that of the country itself,
surging from 800,000 to 1,300,000 between 1917 and 1937 ( Hourani 335). This rapid increase
led to a change in the layout of the cities, forming a variety of different, class dividing quarters.
Furthermore, the inter mingling of a variety of different cultures and nationalities in these major
urban centers stimulated the formation of a new era of social norms, especially in Muslim
societies. During this time of expansion, the general population became more literate, necessitating
a large increase in the number of books issued and printed. Literature of all kinds was provided to a
hungry audience, including textbooks, works of

The Consequences Of The Falling Of A Parachute
The falling of a parachute represents something much deeper then the written text. The pulling and
slacking of the parachutes strings shows how basic responsibilities may take priority over original
thought and pull actions in different directions. The idea of being an adult comes with many
challenges and commitments that need to be regulated. This includes balancing work, play, and a
family. Being stranded, these young boys do not have the norms of society, changing and molding
them to be adults. This lack of responsibility and actual leadership gives them a false sense of
adulthood, and what they perceive to be the freedom of age. Having responsibilities can give a
perception that adulthood is near because most children are taught that having

already entered into long term contracts for the electricity these assets will produce.85 The result
is a corporation owning completed projects with the ability to produce long term stable yield that

The lyrics express Guthrie s belief that the working class should have the same rights as the rich.
He very proudly carried the torch of singing songs about the American worker. Woody Guthrie s
music was not written down, but instead sung, performed, and taught completely by memory.
The structure of this song is easy and memorable, using an ACAB format, which repeats the
beginning of the melody (A section) for the third line. There was a certain Americana aspect to
his folk music. He was a migrant farmer traveling as a country singer, using only his guitar and
voice (occasionally using a harmonica) in his performances. He created songs from the sights he
saw as he traveled all over the USA as a country singer, and spoke out against the lack of fairness
and justice of capitalism and poor treatment of blue collar workers. He preached that his folk
music was not just something that was made just to sell and make money , it was intensively
focused on political and worldly events.

The End Of Life Care
The End of Life Care of Mrs. Terri Schiavo When a person comes to the point of time at which
they are at the end of their life, whether it is due to their age, natural causes or because an
accident has happened, end of life care becomes a key component in their given situation. For
most people, their families, whether it be their husband or their wife, their children, or even
their parents, have to be the ones to make decisions about that care. This end of life care involves
many decisions that most people do not want to make but have to, whether it is to prolong this
person s life or deciding to let them go peacefully and without any pain. In this paper, I will
discuss one particular case, that of Terri Schiavo, and her end of life care. Terri Schiavo was
born Theresa Marie Schindler on December 3, 1963 in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania to
the parents of Robert and Mary Schindler. Throughout her childhood, Terri struggled with being
short and overweight and therefore, she also struggled with her image of herself. It wasn t until
she went off to college that Terri s struggles led her to start dieting and she eventually lost some
of her weight. While she was in college, in 1982, Terri met a man who she fell in love with and
married two years later, in 1984, Michael Schiavo. Just two short years after getting married, the
couple decided to move to Florida, where Terri s parents, the Schindlers, lived. Settled in Florida,

or time, there exists a universal desire among all peoples to save face. This saving of face during a
conflict and it s intercultural understanding is known as the Face Negotiation Theory. The Face
Negotiation Theory has evolved since its first inception; however, it continues to be highly
applicable with broad applications worldwide.
The Face Negotiation Theory Defined The Face Negotiation Theory was proposed by researcher
Stella Ting Toomey in 1985 Oetzel Ting Toomey, 2003). It is based on the concept that individuals
of every culture found in the world care about how their face (or self image) is presented and it
seeks to explain the reason individuals of different cultures manage conflicts which occur in
different ways (Oetzel Ting Toomey, 2003). In conflicts, a person s face may be under threat and
this causes an individual to want to save or restore their face. The theory calls this behavior

Therefore, Ting Toomey expanded upon concepts in Goffman s theory. She defined face as a
positive social self image which occurred in both relationships and network contexts. Ting Toomey
developed a theory (described above) which incorporated multiple contexts which included filtering
the theory through the perspective of the Asian culture (Communication Studies, n.d.). In fact, face
is a metaphor with Chinese origins. It seems it is a combination of the Chinese lien which
represents the internal moral face which is applicable to shame as well as honor issues (Brown
Levinson, 1978). In addition, mien tzu represents the external face which is applicable to social
recognition and power (Brown Levinson,

Mistakes Were Made But Not By Me Book Report
While people may struggle in life and find themselves in difficult situations, everyone has
different ways to solve their problems. There are some decisions that turn out badly and lead to
disappointments. Some people learn from their mistakes and try to avoid them in order to
improve the relationships with their partners, friends, and coworkers. However, many people don
t like to admit their mistakes. They find that the easiest way to get rid of their mistakes is by
putting the blame on the other side. Mistakes Were Made (But Not by Me) talks in detail about
these problems that we face in our in our daily lives. This inspirational book has convinced me that
self justification affects relationships between people. The authors, Carol Tavris and Elliot
Aronson, give answers for an important question of why we justify foolish beliefs, bad... Show

The book includes some psychological research to explain how our minds prevent us from
admitting our mistakes. The authors propose valuable solutions to promote insight, honesty, and
personal awareness. Although self justification seems to be challenging to understand, Tavris and
Aronson give very helpful advice that can make relationships successful. Self justification is a
human defense mechanism that plays a significant role in our daily lives and may damage our
relationships. Most people prefer selecting details that support their beliefs and ignoring evidence
that conflicts with their beliefs. This mental contortion as the authors call it, is confirmation bias
(22). They explain how when people are forced to look at disconfirming evidence, they will find a
way to criticize, distort,

Devious Deception In Macbeth By William Shakespeare
Devious Deception (A Discussion of the Themes of Deception in Acts 1 and 2 of Macbeth)
William Shakespeare is the most celebrated author of all time. Throughout his lifetime, he wrote
numerous texts that would go to be the most loved pieces of writing among abounding
generations. His plays have been performed millions of times and all of the world has heard of
them, even decades after his time. His writings contain divers elements of comedy and sadness. In
the particular tragedy called Macbeth, Shakespeare adds deception to his acts to get the viewers
thinking. This play is full of madness, including the main characters losing their minds. These
themes of deception in acts 1 and 2 of Macbeth are evident through Lady Macbeth pressuring her
husband, the manner in which Macbeth acts around the king, and the way Lady Macbeth and
Macbeth commit the crime of killing Duncan... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This goes to show how much of an influence a woman can have on her man. In the play, Macbeth
wants to kill king Duncan, but starts to have second thoughts about it. He thinks of how Duncan
has been such a dear friend to him and how he has never done him wrong. However, Lady
Macbeth tells him he needs to stop that by joking about his manhood. She truly influences him
and uses deception to make him kill the king. In Scene 7 of act 1 on line 47, Lady Macbeth says:
What beast was t then that made you break this enterprise to me? When you durst do it, then you
were a man; And to be more than what you were, you would be so much more the man. Her

The Theme Of Sexual Hysteria In The Turn Of The Screw
The Turn of the Screw has been so often object to literary criticism as barely another piece of
literature has. The so called Freudian reading of the likes of Harold C. Goddard, Edna Kenton, and
its maybe best known figure Edmund Wilson is probably the most remarkable interpretation.
According to it the governess suffers sexual hysteria deriving from her suppressed amorous feelings
towards the master. Unconsciously of them her fantasy conjures up the ghosts of BlyВґs former
valet Peter Quint and her predecessor Miss Jessel who want to get hold of the children. In saving
her charges the governess can ply the heroine in her made up drama to win the attention and love of
the master.

like Miles revealing to the governess that the children indeed can see the ghosts (The Turn of the

Writing this paper I am fully aware of these unambiguous elements and they do not negate my
work because I do not claim my interpretation to be the only valid one. I simply wanted to show
how ideas of the Freudian reading and particularly of RennerВґs essay seem to have found their

How Did Klimt Make The Kiss
Gustav Klimt created his oil on canvas painting The Kiss between 1907 and 1908 using oil with
layers of gold leaf. This piece also uses mosaic techniques as well as fresco. Just as the title
suggests, the painting is a depiction of a couple embraced in a kiss. The man is kissing and
embracing the woman, the woman in return is accepting the kissand leaning up to him (Cruz 34).
The paintingis exhibited at the Osterrelchische Galerie Belvedere in Vienna, Austria. The Kiss is
a large piece measuring 180 x 180 cm, roughly a square of 6 x 6 (Nerit 1). There are several
elements of style that make The Kiss captivating. The subject is in the middle, the bright yellow
color shows the emphasis of the subject. The skin of the couple, their

I Have A Dream Speech Research Paper
During the spring and summer, black students involved in the movement, would take buses and
trains around the south. This all took place in the south on May 4, 1961, the volunteers black and
white were known as the freedom rider. These volunteers were brought in with the help of Martin
Luther King Jr., CORE (The Congress of Racial Equality), and the SNCC ( The Student Nonviolent
Coordinating Committee). There were more than a thousand freedom riders involved, the freedom
riders were to see if their freedom of segregation on buses and trains in the south was being met.

This march was a very significant part of the movement. This march also led to the speech that
moved people of all races and genders. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered one of the most well
known speeches known today. Martin s I Have a Dream speech talks to the people about
equality and racial justice. The day before his speech Martin Luther King Jr., Wyatt Walker and
others, helped Martin get in a state to write his speech. Wyatt Walker actually advised Martin to
not use his I Have a Dream speech. Wyatt s explanation was that King had used, I Have a Dream
in many other speeches prior to this one, he thought it would be to much. Martin agreed he knew
this speech had to be different. This was the first time he was going to speak to a whole civil
rights group. The event was a big deal because it was going to be shown on all three television
networks live. Kings staff offered multiple different opinions and suggestions about the speech.
Yet, King was still not sure what he was going to do. He told his staff I am now going upstairs to
my room to counsel with my Lord. (Younge ) King finished the speech, but I Have a Dream was
not in the speech. So as King began to say his speech he began to rally the a people, and then one
of King s friends Mahalia Jackson cried out from behind him, Tell em about the dream, Martin.
(Younge ) Mahalia was a very close relationship with King she was the one he would call for
some gospel musical therapy. (Younge ) One of the most well known titles for a speech, wasn t
even written in the final draft. This shows how passionate King felt towards this movement, It
also shows how his own thinking impacted the people. A couple weeks after King gave his
speech on September 15, 1963 there was a bombing at a church, that killed four young black girls

Democracy Of The Islamic States ( Iran Vs Turkey
Democracy in the Islamic States (Iran Vs Turkey)
Democracy is a predominant authority regime that most countries both young and mature have
adopted based on its accrued benefits. Defining democracy can be a daunting task as several
countries may prefer to institute governing policies rather than adopt from other states (Rowley
Smith, 2009). The element of incorporating modified aspects of democracy is based on the
difference in several factors that may range from religion, culture, to political ambition. Islamic
states are considered complex as religion sharia laws play a prevailing role in the majority of the
administration tasks conducted by the state. As such, Islamic countries defined by a democratic
administration will prefer to integrate the alternative that will serve them best. This essay will
evaluate two democratic regimes that were established in the Middle East, and further, discuss the
factors that lead to Iran s democratic failure over Turkey s administration success.
Assessing Compatibility between democracy and Islam is a topic that numerous and prominent
individuals ranging from authors, religious leaders, political figures among other important
personalities have significantly contributed towards. As purported by Ahmad (2011), most
intellectuals, for instance, oriental scholars have over time represented Islamic governed states as
static with minimum development. The culmination of the Iranian revolution in 1979 sparked an
inquiry into the authoritarian

The Ku Klux Klan And The Klan
The Ku Klux Klan has massively reduced by 1927. While it peaked from having over 3 million
members in 1925, it had no more than several hundred thousand in 1927. Night riding of the
Klan led to at least 50 people getting flogged during a two year period. Outcries of the populace
of Georgia and the Carolinas brought arrests and convictions of the Klan. Therefore, the Klan was
forced to retreat. The Klan endured other handicap when local Klan in the North chapters began to
develop ties with American Nazis, which Southern Klansmen greatly opposed. But, the southern
Klansmen was powerless to stop this coalition. The end of 1944 is when the IRS filed a lien
against the Ku Klux Klanfor back taxes of more than $685,000 on profits they earned in the
1920s. A new Klan leader managed to reorganize the Klan in California, Kentucky, New York
and Tennessee, just to name a few. But, both federal and state bureaus of investigation
prosecuted Klan mayhem and the new leadership discovered that the society was surrounded by
enemies. Bond (2011) discloses how ministers were more inclined to attack the Klan, the press
had become more hostile and state and local government passed laws against cross burnings and
masks. Many members of the Klan went to jail for floggings or other crimes. By the early 1950s,
the Ku Klux Klan was at its lowest level since its rebirth.
The Klan in the 1980s On the morning of March 21, 1981, 19 year old Michael Donald s lifeless

Joao Coutinho, There is no neutral education. Education is either for domestication or for freedom.
Therefore I question one to think about the category in which the american school system falls into,
are we creating freedom thinkers or robots of government or are our students trap inside this
conventional compulsory schooling? Schoolis suppose to be a place where students are to be
motivated and taught that all the things in which they dream will become reality. However as time
has progressed teachers have been forced to teach certain content and in particular ways, while
students are required to learn through the styles implemented by their teacher. What many may not

As Maslow hierarchy of needs state, a person can not reach their fullest potential unless they first
meet their basic needs. How will this affect their passion to teach? According to a report released by
the Department of Education there has become a more urgent need for teachers as the teacher
shortage increases. Educators are beginning to lose their passion for their profession. What
example does this set for the children as it relates to education? If they would for one second
answer these few questions before making such an immense decision they would stop taking
money away from education. Answer this question; if there were more educators and
administrators in these government positions, the secretary of education, would it be so easy to
implement cuts within education? There are people like president Trump s new elect Betsy
Devos who has never been in a classroom or has never held a position within a school. This
becomes problematic because she now holds one of the most powerful positions within education:
The United States Secretary of Education. As the head of the US Department of Education, the
secretary advises and executes legislation over education policy at both the K 12 and
postsecondary levels. In an interview she participated in with a CNN host she was perceived to be

Reasons To Blame For The Peloponnesian War
Peloponnesian War Many factors contributed to the starting of this war. Both Sparta and Athens are
partially to blame for the starting of this, however, Corinth is the city that pressured Sparta into
telling Athens to stop mistreating our allies (Hunt 100). Their reasoning stems from Athens trying
to exercise power on too of many of Spartas Peloponnese based alliance s cities. Athens is most to
blame for the Peloponnesian warbecause of their relentless drive, failure to negotiate peace with
Sparta when they had the chance, as well as their wealth and control of the Delian league. Athens
was growing rapidly during this time period and was not showing any signs of slowing down,
which worried the Spartans. They feared that their interest and allies would fall to the Athenians
(Hunt 100). Corinthand Megara worried about the Athenians a lot as well and complained bitterly
to Sparta about Athens (Hunt 100). Eventually, Corinth Told Sparta to attack Athens, or else
Corinth and its navy would change sides to the Athenian alliance. (Hunt 100) Which gave Sparta
no choice but to ask for either peace from Athens or war. Pericles persuaded his voters to reject the
offer from the Spartans... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They had yet to have an effective navy. Athens on the other hand had the Delian league, which was
known for their ability to fight from the sea. Their navy outnumbered Sparta s three to one and they
had 200 skilled archers while the Spartans relied on their swords and spears (Hunt 103). Because of
these staggering numbers Sparta and its allies worried about Athens attacking them. Athens having
control of the Delian league gave them much confidence and this likely is the cause of all their
refusals to peace treaties. Because of the wealth Athens had at the time Alcibiades persuaded the
Athenian assembly to launch the greatest and

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Emerging Markets

We see these features of emerging markets as symptoms of underlying market structures that share
common, important, and persistent differences from those in developed economies.
A fundamental premise of our work is that emerging markets reflect those transactional arenas
where buyers and sellers are not easily or efficiently able to come together. Ideally, every economy
would provide a range of institutions to facilitate the functioning of markets, but developing
countries fall short in a number of ways. These institutional voidsmake a market emerging and are a
prime source of the higher transaction costs and operating challenges in these markets.
By relying on outcome criteria to assess markets, managers often overlook the ways in which
emerging markets operate differently than do developed economies. Ranking the world s
economies by per capita gross domestic product would suggest that the United Arab Emirates, for
example, is among the world s most developed economies, but it is an emerging market nonetheless
because of its market

  • 2. Essay On If Life Exist On Other Planets Since the beginning of time, humans have looked out into space and wondered, are we are alone? This curiosity about our own place in the universe has inspired many ideas and stories that attempt to explain how life could exist on other planets. Scientists at NASA have been discovering evidence that suggests it may be possible for life to exist on another planetwithin our own solar system. I have always been interested in the mysteries of the universe, and never pass up an opportunity to learn more about it. One current theory for the possibility life on other planets focuses on Jupiter s moon Europa, a moon the size of a small planet. What evidence is there that life could even exist on a moon encased in ice? How could a moon so... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Now the thickest ice on earth ever recorded is a little over 4 km thick and is located in Antarctica. To give you some perspective, 10 kilometers is about from Citrus College to the 10 freeway, and that s just the minimum thickness, astronomers don t know for sure yet how deep the ice actually is. But how could liquid water exist on a planet so far from the sun? You might be asking yourself, why isn t the moon solid ice, similar to the former planet Pluto? Even though Europa is much further from the sun than Earth, its inner ocean is believed to have warm water, at least warm enough to be liquid. It gets much of its heat due to Jupiter s gravity, pulling the oceans as it makes its orbit and creates friction with the ice and the salt water ocean underneath. This effect is similar to the tides here on Earth. Europa s liquid ocean is estimated to contain about twice the amount of liquid water than all of Earth s oceans. Most of Earth s oceans still remain unexplored, and the life that exists there, undiscovered. Imagine what might exist under an ocean twice that size. Scientists suspect Europa s ocean may have enough oxygen to be able to support life, however, according to NASA in an article published by phys.org, a science news website, the kind of life we may expect to find (if any) would be micro organisms similar to the single celled forms of ... • 3. Dale Carnegie s How On Win Friends And Influence People Taylor Varrato MCB Sec. 7 30 November 2015 Dale Carnegie s How to Win Friends and Influence People I will never forget my first MCB lecture. A large syllabus was presented, one that seemed to be jam packed with deadlines, reading assignments, quizzes, and to my surprise extra credit assignments. Upon hearing that one of the extra credit assignments consisted of reading a book published in 1937, I was not too thrilled. However, after skimming through the first few pages of How to Win Friends and Influence People, I became instantly intrigued and skimming turned into close reading. I have never been one to read, or for that matter, one to be glued to a book, but this book really spoke to me. You see, I am currently going to school to become ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Of course I never meant any harm, but there have been several periods of time when she has resented me for it. Not only have I made others resent me at times, but I have resented others for being criticized. Just recently, I received a B on an English paper that I put hours into. Obviously, I am not the best writer, but I put a lot of work into that paper and consulted with the professor multiple times before handing it in. Now, I understand that constructive criticism is necessary in order to enhance one s writing skills, but the professor had absolutely nothing good to say about my writing. This made me resent class, resent seeing her, resent doing reading assignments, and above all resent writing. The key word here is resent. Carnegie sums this up well by saying, Criticism is dangerous, because it wounds a person s precious pride, hurts his sense of importance, and arouses resentment (23). This ties together two points, the emphasis on one s sense of importance and resentment. Going off of this idea of criticism, I like how Carnegie touched upon it later in the book. Another principle of his is: Talk about your own mistakes before criticizing the other person. This is such a key principle because, as stated above, criticism is necessary in some cases. The hard part about criticism is that it can invoke feelings of resentment. Therefore, in order to provide criticism in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Problem Of Drug Addicts Currently, the society is employing a significant amount of money and efforts to deal with the continuous increasing of drug addicts within their roots. In fact, the drug problem can be considered by the majority as the greatest problem of the 21th century. Just look, on how it worsened in the last years. Now, it seems that the range of consumers has expanded, and now is embracing almost all ages and classes. In fact, the teens are making the drugs seem like a fashion trend, in which those who do not follow it will be excluded. Considering this fact, and relating it to the need of the human being to feel accepted by the society or a group, helps to understand why the number of drugaddicts is increasing. In the attempt of solving the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Considering the criteria cited above, I had two ideas a comic book or a videogame; but, in the attempt of minimizing as much as possible the costs of the proposal, without compromising the effectiveness of the same, I chose the comic book. I Previous Solution Surely, because of the severity of the drug problem, several solutions were extrapolated and implemented in the attempt to deal with it. However, ones were more efficient than others, but at the same time, none of them represented a real solution for a long time project. For instance, in the article The War On Drugs ... , written by Ewan Hoyle, which is the founder of the Liberal Democrats for Drug Policy Reform, there are several solutions to deal with the drug problem, but each one of them has its constraints (303). One of them, and it was the chosen solution by the author, included a treatment with diamorphine, which is a pharmaceutical drug that changes the neurological system and inhibit the desires of the consumer (303). Even though it seems an extreme measure, the article showed that it carried a high percentage of success on the sample trials. On the other hand, such measure seems to carry a lot of constraints related to the costs. For the costs, even Hoyle stated that this treatment was expensive (304). In his attempt, to back up it, Hoyle stated that the government must do a revision of its policies in a way that facilitate the market for this medicine (304). Well, the ... One was labeled water, while the other one was labeled vinegar. In each cup, paper towels were placed at the bottom. In the cup labeled vinegar, vinegar was added and in the cup labeled water, water was added. Then, one penny was placed in each cup and observed on a span of four days. On the first day, penny A (cup with water) looked the same. Penny B (cup with vinegar) had a strong smell and the penny looked shinier. Later on in the week, penny A looked a little brown but mainly stayed the same. Penny B had some bubbles, rusting, and started to become darker. Toward the end of the experiment,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first error that might have occurred was that the water and vinegar might have been covering the entire penny and the penny might not have been exposed to enough air. If the penny was not exposed to enough air, then the penny could have reacted differently toward the experiment. The paper towels were dry towards the end of the experiment and more water and vinegar was not added to the cups. This could have affected the way the penny was affected. With more water and vinegar, the pennies may have gotten more green or may have has a stronger reaction. At the end of the experiment, the pennies were taken out of the cups and placed a new paper towel. The towel was then labeled with sharpies and left to sit there for a day. The different chemicals in the sharpies could have affected the way the penny reacted. Since the sharpie marker was so close to the pennies, they could have easily been affected. Another experiment that people may want to do next is to the same experiment, but with different liquids. Instead of the vinegar being white vinegar, maybe one could try the experiment with a different type of vinegar, like apple cider vinegar. Apple cider vinegar has different ingredients and could be affected differently and have very different results. To conclude, there were many possible errors during this experiment and many scientific reasons on why the pennies reacted the way they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Importance Of Biostatistics And A Critique Importance of Biostatistics and a Critique Biostatistics is an integral component of numerous developments particularly in technology and modern medicine today. With biostatistics, we can gather data, analyze it, create a hypothesis, test its validity and make a conclusion. This is essential because if we can make an inference from a sample that represents a large population, not only we are able to save time, cost and effort but we are able to arrive to a conclusion that could help us develop alternative treatments or tools in the future. For instance, in concept practice 4, we assessed the usefulness of the iPhone rhinoplasty app for the preoperative assessment of surgery. Each graphical summary is important in understanding and comparing two variables to describe gathered data, determining differences and arriving to a conclusion. Biostatistics also taught us how to recognize study designs and write a summary and critique. This is helpful because it identifies positive and negative aspects of the study and an opportunity for other people to replicate the study and improve it. • 11. Peter Paul Rubens The Consequences Of War In 1638, Peter Paul Rubens painted The Consequences of War as an allegory for the mood in Europe towards the Thirty Years War. The Thirty Years War was a series of wars throughout Europe that decimated cities and cultures. The wars were mainly due to a feud between Protestants and Catholics after the Counter Reformation. The wars began in 1618 and lasted until 1648, so Rubens work of art, The Consequences of War, couldn t have come at a more powerful or influential time. The mood created and the size are two very Baroque aspects that Rubens includes in order to make the viewer feel connected to the work of art more. Additionally, each figure tells their own story, but each of their individual stories adds to the overall theme. First, there is a woman figure on the far left who is a personified version of Europe. The woman is in despair, flailing her arms up, and has tears in her eyes. This represents the mood of all the European citizens throughout the Thirty Years War, and if a viewer looks at her they would feel connected on an emotional level. Next, there is Venus who is desperately trying to hold back her lover Mars from inevitably going to war. Venus is portrayed as a beautiful, nearly nude figure who is highlighted with lots of light. • 12. Differences Between The New England Colonies The New World was divided into three parts known as the New England Colonies, Middle Colonies, and Southern Colonies. These colonies were established for many reasons to benefit the settlers who were coming from countries around the world. Most of their motives were similar, but others were very different. Specifically, the New England Coloniesand the Southern were similar and different in many aspects concerning their religion, politics, and economics. The New England Colonies differed from the Southern colonies in their religious practices. In the New England Colonies religion played a major defining role in all aspects of their lives while the Southern colonies did not take religion into consideration quite as much. The establishment of the New England colonies was different from the South because their main objective was to establish safe places for those fleeing England from possible religious persecutions. In the book, A Patriot s History, the authors stated, But the Pilgrims rightly hold a place of high esteem in America history, largely because unlike Virginia settlement in the New World solely in the name of their Christian faith (Schweikart, Allen, 2004, pg. 31). With her plan of revenge in mind, Miss Havisham deliberately raises Estella to avoid emotional attachment and treat those who love her with cruelty. Arthur wants to get back at his half sister for being cheated out of the brewery business, and Miss Havisham and Estella want to seek revenge on all men who love Estella. Estella is being trained to ruin the lives of men, just as Miss Havisham s fiancГ© ruined hers. In Miss Havisham s address to Pip, she tells him to love Estella even if she wounds him. Perhaps the reason that she stops the clocks, never changes out of her yellowing wedding gown, and keeps the rotting wedding cake is to perpetuate her hope that her fiancГ© will return. This means that either Miss Havisham still loves Compeyson or that she is simply throwing a drastic temper tantrum. It is obvious that Miss Havisham is a deeply wounded woman: her outlook on life is dismal and desolate. She has not ventured out into the daylight for fifty years, shutting out the rest of the world. Time means nothing to her, for she has nothing to do and no friends to see. Her transformation from a passionate young woman in love to an old, hardened, and lonely woman is a great one. There is an obvious parallel between Miss Havisham and Pip in this regard: just as Miss Havisham was spurned by her fiancГ©, Estella has broken Pip s heart. • 15. Summary Of FlandersArticle On Prostitution In Victorian... Flanders article on prostitution in Victorian London focuses on the misinformation and misconceptions surrounding sex workers of that era, especially focusing on how unreliable the numbers involved can be. She approaches the topic with three main arguments in mind: the supposed amount of prostitutes and the evolution of what defines a prostitute, how women are frequently mistaken for prostitutes based upon their appearance, and the often looked over presence of male prostitutes. Within her article she presents multiple primary sources including: diary entries discussing encounters with prostitutes, letters detailing how women were leered at and the public s response to such incidents, and even some authors. It is when she first introduces her argument as a whole that she discusses the questionability of the reported number of prostitutes in Victorian London. Flanders first begins by discussing the sheer numbers involved in what is known of prostitutionin 19th century London. That being said, what is recorded is not what one would refer to as an accurate depiction of how commonplace prostitution was. Flanders takes a moment in the article to highlight a primary source, that being in this particular instance a statement made by a police magistrate that claimed there were 50,000 prostitutes in London (Flanders). She then explains that this number is likely inaccurate as prostitution carried a broader meaning during that time period than it does today. Specifically, in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Trauma in Breath, Eyes Memory Psychological trauma is one way a distressing event can affect someone, and can lead to long term post traumatic stress disorders. The novel Breath, Eyes, Memory by Edwidge Danticat follows the life of a young girl, Sophie, who leaves her home in Haiti to live with her mother in New York. Her mother, Martine, is a survivor of rape and testing , a method used by mothers to determine whether their daughters are still virgins. Sophie is tested by Martine during her teenage years, and is also subject to emotional abuse by her. Throughout the novel, both Martine and Sophie s struggles are depicted as they contend with their burdens. Danticat uses characterization and plot structure to illustrate the significant,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Through her use of plot, Danticat shows how deeply and strongly trauma can affect a person. One way the plot supports this theme is through conflict. After a while of living with Sophie, Martine begins to suspect her of having a boyfriend. She then begins to test Sophie, as well as emotionally neglecting her. This affects Sophie deeply, enough to drive her to a drastic act of self harm: she breaks her own hymen with a pestle. Sophie describes the deed: My flesh ripped apart as I pressed the pestle into it. I could see the blood dripping down onto the bed sheet. I took the pestle and bloody sheet and stuffed them into a bag. It was gone, the veil that always held my mother s finger back every time she tested me (88). This illustrates the lengths Sophie would go to in order to escape her mother s abuse, as well as the strength of her resolve. She completed her act with the resolution of carrying a scar forever. From this quote, it can be inferred that Sophie felt so cornered she felt injuring herself was her only way out. As the book progresses, Sophie must face her own feelings about her mother, who has sexually and emotionally abused her. • 32. Changes in Arabic Societies During teh 20th Century The early 20th century saw major changes in Arabic societies, which initiated a new cultural order that changed the lives of men and women alike. The sweeping changes associated with this period were catalyzed by a massive immigration from the countryside into the rapidly expanding urban centers of the region. There exist a variety of contributing factors to this migration: systems of land inheritance that fragmented land into smaller parcels (decreasing an already declining income per capita); the world wide economic crisis of the 1930s that further crippled the income of farmers, and the disappearance of sustainable jobs. As a result, millions of rural dwelling peoples flocked to the cities where the prospect of employment was most probable. The population of cities such as Cairo grew at an even faster rate than that of the country itself, surging from 800,000 to 1,300,000 between 1917 and 1937 ( Hourani 335). This rapid increase led to a change in the layout of the cities, forming a variety of different, class dividing quarters. Furthermore, the inter mingling of a variety of different cultures and nationalities in these major urban centers stimulated the formation of a new era of social norms, especially in Muslim societies. • 40. The End Of Life Care The End of Life Care of Mrs. Terri Schiavo When a person comes to the point of time at which they are at the end of their life, whether it is due to their age, natural causes or because an accident has happened, end of life care becomes a key component in their given situation. For most people, their families, whether it be their husband or their wife, their children, or even their parents, have to be the ones to make decisions about that care. This end of life care involves many decisions that most people do not want to make but have to, whether it is to prolong this person s life or deciding to let them go peacefully and without any pain. In this paper, I will discuss one particular case, that of Terri Schiavo, and her end of life care. Terri Schiavo was born Theresa Marie Schindler on December 3, 1963 in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania to the parents of Robert and Mary Schindler. Throughout her childhood, Terri struggled with being short and overweight and therefore, she also struggled with her image of herself. It wasn t until she went off to college that Terri s struggles led her to start dieting and she eventually lost some of her weight. While she was in college, in 1982, Terri met a man who she fell in love with and married two years later, in 1984, Michael Schiavo. Just two short years after getting married, the couple decided to move to Florida, where Terri s parents, the Schindlers, lived. Settled in Florida, Terri and Michael both found jobs, Michael ... Some cultures in the world are focused on saving money, some on saving time. Yet, unlike money or time, there exists a universal desire among all peoples to save face. This saving of face during a conflict and it s intercultural understanding is known as the Face Negotiation Theory. The Face Negotiation Theory has evolved since its first inception; however, it continues to be highly applicable with broad applications worldwide. The Face Negotiation Theory Defined The Face Negotiation Theory was proposed by researcher Stella Ting Toomey in 1985 Oetzel Ting Toomey, 2003). It is based on the concept that individuals of every culture found in the world care about how their face (or self image) is presented and it seeks to explain the reason individuals of different cultures manage conflicts which occur in different ways (Oetzel Ting Toomey, 2003). In conflicts, a person s face may be under threat and this causes an individual to want to save or restore their face. The theory calls this behavior Facework . The ... Democracy Of The Islamic States ( Iran Vs Turkey Democracy in the Islamic States (Iran Vs Turkey) Democracy is a predominant authority regime that most countries both young and mature have adopted based on its accrued benefits. Defining democracy can be a daunting task as several countries may prefer to institute governing policies rather than adopt from other states (Rowley Smith, 2009). The element of incorporating modified aspects of democracy is based on the difference in several factors that may range from religion, culture, to political ambition. Islamic states are considered complex as religion sharia laws play a prevailing role in the majority of the administration tasks conducted by the state. As such, Islamic countries defined by a democratic administration will prefer to integrate the alternative that will serve them best.
