Essay Corrections
Crafting an essay on the subject of "Essay Corrections" can be quite challenging, requiring a
delicate balance between critical analysis, linguistic precision, and a nuanced understanding of
writing conventions. The complexity lies in the need to navigate through the intricacies of
grammar, syntax, and style while simultaneously addressing the broader aspects of content and
structure.
To begin with, one must possess a keen eye for detail to identify and rectify errors in grammar,
punctuation, and sentence construction. This demands a thorough knowledge of language rules
and a meticulous approach to proofreading. However, it doesn't end there; the essay also needs to
delve into the realm of content and coherence.
Addressing issues related to clarity, logical flow, and overall coherence adds another layer of
difficulty. It requires the writer to critically evaluate the essay's structure, ensuring that ideas are
presented in a logical sequence and that each paragraph contributes meaningfully to the overall
argument or narrative. Achieving this balance requires not only a deep understanding of the
subject matter but also a refined skill in organizing thoughts effectively.
Moreover, essay corrections involve an element of subjectivity. Different readers may have
diverse opinions on what constitutes a well-constructed essay. Thus, the writer must anticipate
potential areas of contention and be prepared to defend their choices with persuasive arguments.
In essence, creating an essay on "Essay Corrections" demands a multifaceted skill set
encompassing linguistic expertise, analytical thinking, and an acute awareness of the intricacies
of written communication. It is a task that necessitates time, patience, and a commitment to
continuous improvement.

Fred Scrooge In The Great Gatsby
Scrooge is a man with set goals of spending no money on anyone or anything. He is
a grouchy old man that nobody likes besides his nephew.
It is Christmas Eve, and Scrooge is at his business.a few people come by to
business. One of these people is Fred scrooge s nephew, but fred invites to have
dinner with his family. Then two businessmen come in who are collecting money for
charity, but again Scrooge rejected to give the gentlemen anything. After the men had

Tale Of Genji Research Paper
This first source, Japanese Literature, describes how classic literature grew and
made it s mark in history. At around 894 1194, there were many developments in
writing. People began writing fiction such as The Tales of Genji By Murasaki
Shikibu. It was considered, the pre eminent masterpiece of Heian fiction and an
early example of a work of fiction in the form of a novel. by New World
Encyclopedia. During this time period, it was considered a pastime to be writing
anthologies of poetry. For the Japanese, poetry was a way of expressing emotion in a
refined way.
The second source, The Tale of Genji: The work of a brilliant widow 1,000 years ago,
identified a story written 1,000 years ago by a widow. The Tale of Genji was written
The Great Coral Reef Of Florida
For this assignment, we were asked to choose of our past presentation topics and
write and essay to elaborate more on whichever topic we pick. The topic I decided to
elaborate more on is the Great Coral Reef of Florida. There are many important
aspects to look at other than facts about the Great Coral Reef, but also the effects it is
facing as well as how it plays a role in the economy, as in terms of bringing in money
for the communities. Each topic that I am going to talk about mainly comes from
information found by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)
and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. The National Oceanic and
Atmospheric Administration is a federal agency focused on the condition of the
oceans and the atmosphere. They provide information and data about life on earth,
our oceans, atmosphere, and the Nation s living marine resources. The Florida
Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) is the Florida government agency
charged with environmental protection. It is under the nominal control of the
governor. First, I am going to talk about the importance of coralreefs. Coral reefs are
some of the most diverse and valuable ecosystems on Earth. They are home to 4,000
species of fish, 800 species of hard coral, and hundreds of other species. Scientists
believe that there are another 1 to 8 million unidentified species (NOAA). According
to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, new drugs are being

Improving the Value Chain With Corporate Social...
The realm of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is to increase business
profitability and opportunities by making improvements in terms of operational
effectiveness throughout the value chain (Rangan, Chase Karim, 2012). This
increasingly popular CSR among corporate and academic leaders is synonymous to
the shared valueframework, whereby organizations seek to co create economic and
social value. According to Ridurnolu, Prhalad and Rangaswami (2009), corporations
from the United States recognize the business value of revolutionizing new
manufacturing and technology that cut operating costs while minimizing impacts on
the environment. This CSR domain focuses on operational efficiency and also
building revenue, with the initiativeto be determined by the ability to improve the
corporate bottom line while at the same time returning social value. To achieve that,
the strategy is to reengineer a corporation s entire value chain, which stems from
natural resource extraction and sourcing to manufacturing, shipping and product
delivering. An example would be Nike s establishment of their Code of Conduct
which oversees its entire production supply chain. Nike s code consists of
requirements that their employees be given basic rights such as fair compensations,
safe and healthy work environment and ethical treatment in the workplace (Nike, Inc,
2010). According to Angeles (2014), the company also launched an environment
management information system that reduces the negative

Description Of A Man s Voice
We sat on a cheap wooden bench in the security room in the back of Lord and
Taylor, our bags lay on their sides, the contents spilled across the concrete floor.
Little white tags hung from the fabric, a few seams were noticeably ripped along
the side ribbing of the clothing. Computer screens encompassed the room, the
surveillance footage rotated intermittently from Camera 1 to Camera 2 to Dressing
Room Camera. The man s voice was barely audible through the wall behind me, as
he called my parents and the authorities. He came back into the room with the
woman who had grabbed my arm as I exited the department store, announcing that
the price for all of the products I had stolen totaled to approximately $1,300 though
he hadn t calculated in the damages of the torn clothing where the security buttons
were ripped out. My best friend, better known as my fellow thief, called her mom
to retrieve us. I used the thick silence of that car ride to prepare something
mitigating to say to my mother. When I delicately, respectfully, quietly entered the
foyer, my mom sat waiting, drilling me with questions. As I entered the foyer, my
mom, who had been undoubtedly stewing in her own thoughts as she awaited my
arrival, drilled me with questions. Why would you do this? Because it s fun. Who
made you do this? As if I can t make my own decisions and fuck up my life on my
own. How long has this been going on? I told her once before but in reality it had
been going on for a while. WHY? Why not?
Essay about Maximizing Production in the Food Industry
Introduction
One of the most important management activities in today s economy is to improve
performance, especially labor productivity, because almost every manufacturing
process involves human work. Not only the physical work, but also the mental
manpower is crucial to achieve the objectives of the organization. Increased
productivity includes greater motivation, personal participation and better
performance of work in the foodservice organization. For institutional food service,
improving labor productivity can be more challenging because of budget pressure and
strict regulations. Many studies have been done on working environment,
management skills, vocational training and so on. Some general management skills,
such as vocational ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Continuing Vocational Training Survey (CVTS) recorded the degree and
intensity of training activities in the firm they studied; and it was the key feature in
this study, because CVST solved the arguments of adding up a variety of economic
activities with wide differences in terms of capital or labor intensity (Sala Silva,
2012). Besides CVTS, intensity in research and development, job training process,
degree of capitalization, and general education were also considered as factors in
their calculation model, so the conclusion was able to apply to other general
professions.
Accordingly, human capital is also important for food service industry and it can
promote economic growth dramatically. The result of study from Sala and Silva can
be applied to food service industry as well. Proper vocational training before and
during the employment can definitely increase labor productivity. Training for new
employees, such as food safety, skills of handwashing, policy and skills of using
certain machines, will help new employees to fit in work quickly and reduce the
chances of operational error. Based on what we learned in class, improvements in
design and operation of kitchen equipment is one of the applications of productivity
improvement. Continued vocational training can inform employees the updated
information about computerized machines, menu, new policy and regulations and
customers feedback as well.
The Dangers Of Money And Greed In The Pardoners Tale
The danger of money and greed was important in chaucer s time because it
describes the character and what that character was like. For example The immoral
Pardoner, who, in a sense, sells away his soul for the sake of his own avarice,
puzzles many modern readers with his strange logic. Already having laid his
considerable guilt upon the table, this corrupted agent of the Church attempts to
pawn off his counterfeit relics for a generous price. Also in the Pardoner s tale the
rioters show the dangers on money and greed because they live loose lives and
spend time gambling and drinking in pubs, they are also disgusting and hateful. A
brief summary of the Pardoner tale is The pardoner is a beautiful blonde haired
man who is being loved by everyone. However he is very corrupted and smart and
sells fake religious stuff to people saying very good compliment. On the other
hand, the reeve is very serious and honest business man. He is very smart enough
to know what criminals think and do. The pardoner story tells a great example of
the seven deadly sins and reeve s story is mocking of the miller. The rioters make
his own plan to buy poison and kill his friends, and at the end the youngest got
stabbed and killed by the other two,to celebrate the two drank wine which was
poisoned by the young rioter, thus they all died. The moral of this story is that greed
can lead to death. Another tale that is an example is the miller s tale, Symkyn, is
very well known for stealing other

Isolation of Volatile Oil from Cinnamon
Purpose: The purpose of this experiment was to isolate the components of cinnamon
by using multiple techniques. The techniques involved in the experiment include:
distillation, extraction, filtration, refractomery, gas chromatography, mass
spectrometry, and the use of ChemDraw.
Introduction:
Cinnamon is the second most important spice that is sold throughout the world.1 The
word Cinnamon originates from the word cassia. Cassia is the meaning of a plant that
mainly contains leguminous genus. Cinnamon bark originates from the culivtated
trees of Cinnamomum zeylanicum Nees, Lauraceae.2 Cinnamons usages include:
flavoring for foods, medicinal purposes, agricultural needs, and pesticides. Cinnamon
does not have a chemical structure, which is replaced for Cinnamaldehyde, which
covers 97% of cinnamon. Figure 1 illustrates the chemical structure of
Cinnamaldehyde. Terpenoids and isoprene s are located in the volatile oil of
cinnamon, which play a major role in the color and odor of cinnamon. Cinnamon has
several constituents that include: Cinnamaldehyde, cinnamic acid, coumarin, linalool,
eugenol, and methyl cinnamate. These constituents were analyzed further by using
technical processes. The isolation of cinnamon oil has evolved over sever years. The
isolation originally began as a liquid liquid extraction with methylene chloride
The Intent Behind the Enuma Elish (Creation Epic) Essay
The Intent Behind the Enuma Elish
The Enuma Elish, often known as The Creation Epic, is often considered the primary
source of Mesopotamian cosmology. However, to view the Enuma Elish as a
cosmological myth obscures the true intent of the epicГs author. The cosmological
elements of the Enuma Elish are secondary to the authorГs effort to explain the
supremacy of Marduk, to justify absolute oriental monarchy, and to defend Babylon
as the axis mundi.
The Enuma Elish was composed in Babylonin the early second millennium B.C.E.
The decay of Sumerian civilization allowed the Old Babylonian Empire to become
the cultural and political center of Mesopotamia. Babylon was governed by absolute
and despotic kings capable of wielding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, the transfer of power to Babylon is illustrated by the subjugation of all
gods to the rule of Marduk. After erecting a throne for Marduk, the gods proclaim,
Thou art (the most) important of the great gods; Thy destiny is unequaled, thy
command is (like that of) AnuГ–To thee we have given kingship over the totality of
the whole universe ( Enuma Elish, 36). This statement reflects the reality of the
times. During the writing of the Enuma Elish the Old Babylonian Empire weilded
supreme power in Mesopotamia.
Moreover, the recognition MardukГs absolute rule is etiological in relation to the
power of the Babylonian kings. According to Assyriologist Benjamin Foster, the
Enuma Elish explains the evolution from early government by elders to absolute
monarchy. As the battle between Marduk and Tiamat illustrates, Foster notes the
catalyst for this change is portrayed as outside threat calling for a war leader. The
leader demanded, as his terms for leadership, absolute obedience, even when the
threat of war was removed (Foster, 9).
Once the writer of the Enuma Elish set forth the supremacy of the Babylonian God
and the precedent for earthly monarchy, he/she turned to the task of translating divine
superiority to earthly. The process of translating divine power to earthly power
begins on line 50 of Tablet IV of the Enuma Elish. Grateful for MardukГs leadership,
the gods construct the
Shiloh, By Bobbie Ann Mason
Shiloh , by Bobbie Ann Mason, explores an interesting theme, the distinct parallel
between the surface level of what the events of the story are, and the meaning
underneath. This parallel is seen throughout the story, from the start when Leroy
Moffitt is building craft kits for at first just to pass time, while Norma Jean is
lifting weights and working at a Rexall drugstore for the same reason; To later on
when Norma says she doesn t know what she s talking about and Leroy thinks that
the way to saving his marriage is to come up with a last minute idea. The story
engages the theme of the parallellevels through the unstable marriage of Leroy and
Norma Jean. The theme of this parallel is shown overtly through the images,
descriptions, and characterizations of the log cabins in the story, and of Shiloh.
Interestingly, the characters and the world they live in are stuck on the surface,
shown through how both Leroy and Norma Jean drift on subjects, and through the
names in the story.
Norma Jean and Leroy s marriage shows an insight on the theme in action because
of how their lack of understanding the inner workings of marriage, which causes
them to drift apart and eventually separate. One of the most important things in
marriage is the ability to communicate, but neither of them are able to do so on a
meaningful level. An example of this is when Norma Jean starts to explain why she
wants to leave him, then as she walks away she takes back what she said, adding No,

Jacksonian Democracy
Topic: Jacksonian Democrats viewed themselves as the guardians of the United States
Constitution, political democracy, individual liberty, and equality of economic
opportunity.
In light of the following documents and your knowledge of the 1820 s and 1830 s, to
what extent do you agree with the Jacksonians view of themselves?
Andrew Jackson began a whole new era in American history. Amongst his greatest
accomplishments were evoking the common man to be interested in government and
tailoring democracy to satisfy the same common man s needs. Of course, Jackson
could not go about making such radical changes without supporters, but that never
surfaced as a problem. Jacksonian Democrats, as they came to be called, were great in

The Jacksonians arose from these issues and others, as is evidenced in writings of
the time, such as The Working Men s Declaration of Independence by George Henry
Evans. They began to call the public s attention to an oppression by the upper class
through many different issues of the time, which was looked down upon by some,
such as Daniel Webster in response to Jackson s bank veto. This dealt with the Bank
War which was the primary economic dealing of the time in which President Jackson
vetoed the recharter of the Bank of the United States. He did so because he found
the bank unconstitutional and thought that it was a near monopoly that only
benefited the rich. This stirred public support and brought the class issue to the
forefront for many people. Although some looked upon Jackson s decision on the
Bank as a bad one, the Jacksonians supported him because they saw it as an attempt
to support equality and eliminate a monopoly in the hands of the elite rich. Another
such instance that dealt with monopoly and equality of economic opportunity was
the Charles River Bridge v. Warren Bridge case in 1837. In it, Chief Justice Taney
ruled that new enterprises could not be confined by the implied privileges of old
charters, in an effort to allow for competition and free enterprise. Political democracy
was one of the resurfacing interests during the Jacksonian Era. Jacksonian Democrats
saw it as their duty to protect the government run
Ursa Minor In Greek Mythology
My favorite constellation happens to be ursa minor. i find ursa minor interesting as

that it is part of one of my favorite mythological tales and is only behind the greek
tale of the seasons. i also find it funny the way in the story they attempt to justify
why ursa major and minor have long tails even though they are referred to as bears.

Essay on Music For Torching by A.M. Holmes
Music For Torching by A.M. Holmes
A.M. Holmes critique of the American dream s malfunction in modern suburbia
examines contemporary domestic life through a variety of socially realistic
metaphors. No metaphor is a stronger critic of the dark domestic world she
presents than the recurring theme of clothing as a mask which her characters use to
hide their true identities. The novel focuses on the importance of socially
acceptable clothing as an expression of each character s overall desire to reach a
state of normalcy, if not perfection. Yet irony arises out the representation of clothing
as both filling its customary role as a cover up, and simultaneously being used as a
medium of exposure. This ironical situation of clothing as a ... Show more content on

In a sexually possessive manner, Paul asks her to wear one of his shirts, and she
replies, Does your laundry write your name on the collar? (157). Mrs. Apple s
insistence of an anonymous shirt reveals the importance of clothing in sexual but
more importantly secretive nuance. This scenario represents the sexual and gender
ambiguity that is present throughout much of the novel: a woman wearing her
husband s shirt makes her more matrimonial and more normal , and yet Mrs. Apple
is less normal since she continues her sexual exploits Paul while wearing the shirt
and by agreeing to wear one of his. Outwardly, her clothing expresses the idea that
she is a faithful wife, when in reality she is having an affair with another man.
Conversely, in most sexual scenarios, the absence of clothing playing the role as one
s normal camouflage induces the character to feel uncomfortable or exposed, thus
exposing inner discontentment and other hidden emotions. In the first chapter, Paul
roughly pulls down Elaine s pantyhose, leaving her awkwardly waddling around the
kitchen until her son appears. The pantyhose is described as a rubber band ,
restricting her. Throughout the rest of the novel, there lies a common theme of Paul
in a sexually aggressive role, with him sometimes demanding that Elaine fuck him,
and other times with him not even bothering to ask. The scenario with the pantyhose
represents Paul s control over Elaine in their sex lives, and her recurring
Masculine Portrayals In The Roaring Girl And Tamburlaine
Toxic Masculine Portrayals in The Roaring Girl and Tamburlaine The portrayals of
men in Renaissance literature and plays is wrought with various aspects of toxic
masculinity. Masculinity in works such as Tamburlaine the Great or The Roaring Girl
is shown in different ways and with varying degrees of spectacle. Tamburlaine
displays his masculinitythrough hyper violent acts and high degrees of spectacle,
whereas characters such as Laxton and Dapper flaunt their masculinity in different,
less violently spectacular means, however, they still participate in embodying the
toxic masculine ideal. Understanding masculinity and how it is defined at the time
is important to grasping why the portrayals of it in various works involve the
aspects that they do. Masculinity as it exists now is a fluid concept, yet in the past
leading up the Renaissance it was treated as a rigid set of rules that menmust uphold
to be perceived as masculine and in turn make headway in a patriarchal society.
Ideas about masculinity and femininity are beginning to be questioned more during
the Renaissance in interesting ways, especially when these ideas are presented in
the world of the theatre. Men in this time period are expected to be the backbone of
their households and held up as a womans closet tie to God, right below their
clergymen. These expectations come with backlash. With the expectation of men to
be the protectors and providers of their households and out in the world at large,
violence,
The Decentralization Of Chicago
The definition of the Middle East as a category, is very much dependent of the
existence of a West (Alsayyad, 2011). What defines the term western and what makes
a populace considered western? The term western derives from the idea of European
modernization, from cities such as London or Paris. Under this modernization the
cities adapted to new technologies, such as transportation and road systems. Western
culture was introduced; culture referring to that complex while which includes
knowledge, belief, art, law, morals, customs, and other capabilities and habits
acquired by a person as a member of society (Edward B Taylor, Anthropologist).
Foreign capital, through tourism and investors, began to appear in these cities. Foreign

The question is should we drill for oil in the Arctic National Wildlife Reserve.
While there are downfalls to drilling the Arctic National Wildlife Reserve, the
benefits to the country and to Alaska far outweigh them. These benefits include
lower gas prices, more jobs, energy independence. First off, there are many benefits
of oil drilling in the ANWR. It will lower the gas prices for all of the U.S. The reason
it will lower the gas prices because we will be using our own oil instead of buying oil
from other countries. Lower gas prices will help the economy out very sufficiently

Joseph Smith s Contributions to the Development of
Mormons
Mormons were created by Joseph Smith in 1820, when Smith was 14 and lived in
New York. During that time God supposedly came to him and told him not to join
any of the churches in his town. Instead God told Smith to start a new religion that
was based on One Lord, One Faith, and One Baptism . God also said that no other
churches were leading and teaching their people the right way, by God s way. Smith
believed that the figure speaking to him was God so he went out and began this new
religion he named Mormon. In 1830, Joseph Smith published The Book of Mormon.
Also Smith began the Latter Day Saints Church in 1830 in Palmyra, New York.
Brigham Young was the successor to Smith and the second President of the Latter
Day Saints Church. Ezra Taft Benson was also a friend of Smith s and a former
United States Secretary of Agriculture under President Eisenhower and thirteenth
President of the Latter Day Saints Church. George Albert Smith was the 8th President
of the Mormon Church. At the moment, Thomas S. Monson is the President and he
is the 16th President of the Latter Day Saints Church of Christ. Each President has the
assistance of a group of contemporary apostles. The Church of Latter Day Saints or
any other Church of Mormons estimates between eleven million and twelve million
followers. Mormon beliefs are very different from Christian beliefs, although some are
similar. Mormons believe that Jesus was born through sexual union between Mary
and Elohim but Christians
Reflection And Discussion On Absorption Spectra
3. Results and Discussion
3.1. Absorption spectra study of 5 aminopyridine Schiff base (L1 and L2):
The absorption spectrum of probes L1 and L2 (40 ОјM) were investigated in the
presence of metals ions in DMSO solvent. As shown in Fig. 1, Schiff base L1
exhibited absorption band at 269 nm, 310 nm, 323 nm and 347 nm; and L2 at 264
nm, 319 nm, 341 nm, 439 nm and 462 nm, that may be attributed to ПЂ ПЂ* charge
transfer transition. However, no remarkable changes were observed in absorption
spectra after the addition of 1 equivalent various metal ions such as Ag(I), K(I), Li(I)
Na(I), Co(II), Cu(II), Cd(II), Pb(II), Mg(II), Hg(II), Mn(II), Al(III), Cr(III), Gd(III)
and Nd(III) ions. Interestingly upon the addition of zinc and nickel ions to the probe
L1 absorbance peak shifted to higher wavelength (red shift) from 347 nm to 413 nm
and 410 nm, respectively. Thus, L1 Zn(II) and L1+Ni(II) complexes exhibited color
change from colorless to intense yellow color. Similarly, the addition of Fe(III) and
UO2(II) to the probe L2, absorbance peak lead to decrease at 439/462 nm while new
peak appear at 355 nm and 366/ 515 nm, respectively. Consequently, the absorbance
peaks of L2 Fe(III) complexes shifted to UV region, thus light yellow color turned to
colorless, and in case of L2 UO2(II) complex absorbance peak showed red shift
effect, that resulted in dark yellow color (Fig. 2a and b). Thus, absorption spectral
changes were enabled to detect Ni(II), Zn(II), Fe(III) and UO2(II) as a naked eye

training and his battle against the forces of evil in his quest to become the next
Hokage. Dawn of the Arcana by Rei Toma is a Manga about a young princess who is
forced to marry to stop to rival nations from going to war. Both Naruto and Dawn of
the Arcana entertain audiences through strong characters, symbols and emotions.
This is evident throughout Naruto. Especially in the action see as you can see the
emotions on the characters faces such as determination. In Dawn of the Arcana you

Both of the main characters fit into stereotypes but in many aspects also break
these stereotypes. Naruto fits the stereotype of a young boy in the fact that he is a
trouble making and is out seeking adventure. He is very violent and breaks the
stereotype of a young boy in the fact that he is a ninja and that he has superpowers.
Nakaba in Dawn of the Arcana is a young princess and she fits that stereotype better
than Naruto fits his stereotype of a boy. Nakaba has all things that a stereotypical
princess has, servants, guards, a castle and royal attire. But she still does break the
stereotype of a young princess in many ways. Most princess aren t forced to marry
in order to stop a war and Nakaba is much too violent to be a princess. Both of these
characters can be related to be their audiences but offer unique qualities to keep the

Belinda Ap Essay
Clarence Hervey supposes himself to be a Renaissance man, when in authenticity,
he is nothing more than a charlatan. In this passage from her novel Belinda, Maria
Edgeworth develops the many characters of Mr. Hervey through generalized
language, references to Mr. Hervey s inconstancy and Mr. Hervey s ironic and
hypocritical fears of Belinda. Throughout the passage, Edgeworth uses words such
as all and every to accentuate the wide berth of Mr. Hervey s supposed aptitudes.

No Name Woman Analysis
One s identity can t be given before one achieves a sense of character through self
reflection and personal experience. In No Name Woman Maxine Hong Kingston
narrates the tale of her unmarried aunt who is obliged to suffer the consequences of
her pregnancy in the ambiguous world of her Chinese roots. We are not given a
name for the narrator nor for her family. We therefore might wonder who might be
considered a No name Woman both in the book s world and in our own. With the
oxymoron No Name Woman, Kingston calls attention to reconcile both her Chinese
and American identities to and mold her own identity as a result. This makes us think
more deeply about the multiple meanings of Chinese experience in America.

In Chinese culture, water ghosts (Shui gui) are the spirits of people who drowned.
Shui Gui are known for lurking in the place they died to drag gullible victims
underwater to drown them and take possession of their bodies. With this in mind,
the villagers had another reason to keep the aunt s history hidden as they feared to
suffer the consequences of slandering her as a shameful outcast. The aspects of
Chinese society come together near the end of the story. Kingston s metaphors such
as round moon cakes and doorways represent the circle of Chinese life: The idea that
every villager has a place in the tight circle that is Chinese society. The roundness also
indicates that the family functions as a whole, with each generation dependent on the
other. Chinese tradition is what fuels this circle; it establishes the cultural norms and
practices that define what it means to be Chinese. Not only does this circle represent
ancestral relations, it also represents the circle of
Papers On The Bell Jar
The book that I chose to read for my project is called The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath.
The story follows a woman named Esther Greenwood through her downward spiral
of mental illness, and describes her experiences as someone who does not fit the
societal expectations placed upon her. She grew up earning A s in school, and was
regarded as a good student. However, as she entered college, her grades and mental
health took a turn for the worse. Working an internship in New York for a magazine
company, Esther was living a life that many would envy. She was surrounded by
friends, entertainment, romantic interests, and the career that she had hoped for.
However, none of the things that were supposed to bring her happinesssucceeded in
doing so.
Esther tried escaping into New York night life with the help of her friend Doreen,
and made several acquaintances and friends along the way. She went to banquets,
and stuffed herself full of rich, exquisite foods. She was proposed to by Buddy
Willard, a childhood sweetheart. She bought expensive gowns with her new money;

Through Esther Greenwood s experiences, the reader can conclude that happiness
cannot always be achieved by filling traditional societal roles. Esther would not
have been happy or satisfied settling down with Buddy Willard, even though she
had been taught that it would be the best path for her as a woman. Perhaps without
the pressure and expectations placed upon her by society, Esther may have been
able to find meaning and joy in life much earlier. Perhaps she would have spent her
time traveling, writing, or finding inspiration to continue living elsewhere. Instead,
she drove herself mad trying to understand why she was not content with what she
had, or why she did not want the things that were expected of her. Once again, once
she was able to discard this way of thinking, she was able to end her
Sweatshops Collapse Essay
Sweatshops have very poor working conditions, the workers get paid very little,
many people are forced to work there including a huge number of children, workers
have to work long hours and do not get breaks, and the factories are also unsafe for
people to work in.
There have been many awful accidents at sweatshops around the world but one of the
worst incidents involving a sweatshop was when the factory in Bangladesh collapsed
in April 2013. Over 1000 people were killed in this disaster with another 2500
being injured. There were over 3000 workers in the building at the time that it
collapsed. The building collapsed because it was built on unsafe ground, on top of a

There could be a law made so that if a company was buying from a factory that was
below their standards they could be fined. That could make businesses consider
where they are buying from. However the consequence of this idea is that the
clothes in shops would be more expensive for shoppers, although the price may not
be much more than it would be not some shoppers might not be happy about
having to spend more money on clothes that they may only wear a few times.
Another solution to this problem would be for the company to pay the workers
more for their products but still keep the prices in stores the same. The company
would lose some of their profits doing this but shoppers would not have to pay
more for their clothes and they would be helping to improve the lives of thousands
of workers. A study from 2002 by economist Robert Pollin shows that the price of
products being sold in shops would only have to be increased by 1.8% to double
the worker s salary. This shows that the prices in shops would not have to increase
by a lot to change the lives of the workers. This study also shows that the majority
of people are willing to spend up to 15% more if the know that the products that they
are buying have came from a factory which has good working

The Search for Identity in Amy Tan s The Joy Luck Club

The Search for Identity in The Joy Luck Club
When Chinese immigrants enter the United States of America, it is evident from the
start that they are in a world far different than their homeland. Face to face with a
dominant culture that often times acts and thinks in ways contrary to their previous
lives, immigrants are on a difficult path of attempting to become an American.
Chinese immigrants find themselves often caught between two worlds: the old world
of structured, traditional and didactic China and the new world of mobile, young
and prosperous America. They nostalgically look back at China longing for a
simpler life but look at the United States as a land of opportunity and freedom that
they did not know in China. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The only Chinese culture that they receive is what their parents are holding on to in
America. The second generation is busy assimilating absorbing American beliefs and
practices even if those beliefs are negative views of their own race. But can the
second generation Chinese Americans be truly happy as completely assimilated
American for in this they are denying their heritage which runs much deeper than
sallow skin and almond shaped eyes? Undoubtedly, the most profound struggle for the
second generation Chinese American will be to seek out their identity and to find
some fusion between the polarized worlds in their lives.
The second generation Chinese American s search for identity is indeed a challenge;
however, the second generation Chinese American woman search for identity is
magnified. For not only does the Chinese American woman struggle to find her
ethnic identity, she must also find her strength and power as a woman. It is a dual
struggle. But not only is it a dual struggle, it is a dual reality. The two entities cannot
be separated. As Shirley Geok Lim and Amy Ling stated so eloquently in their
introduction the Reading the Literatures of Asian America, race and gender
categories are never unitary and separate but are historically and socioculturally

Following Your Dreams
What is the underlying reason as to why we do not fulfill our dreams? Maybe it is
because we lack the inner motivation and desire within ourselves; or we tend to
blame other people for our failures; or perhaps we are missing the resources that we
desperately need. Sometimes it may be because others discourage us. A dream is a
personal desire to accomplish something that we want to achieve, but we do not
necessarily know where to begin or even have enough confidence within ourselves
to fulfill it. A specific factor that plays a major role in fulfilling our dreams can be the
issue of gender. Many people feel that women do not have the same opportunities
that males are given in specific fields. For example, the field of science deals with...

They feel we need to be more realistic while following our dreams so that we do not
set up disappointment for our selves. Like Morgan and Emerson, we must try to
believe and have hope that one will pursue their dreams and go further. In other
words, we must be supportive! If people are not giving us support while we are
making dreams and trying to follow through with them, then we may give up.
People would start to feel like their dreams were not important or worthwhile. As a
result, we tend to lack motivation to even start our goals and dreams. So, how
exactly do we figure out our dreams and then follow through with them no matter
what anybody else says? Perhaps we can look to those like McClintock that have
already set and started fulfilling their goals, and then do what works best for us.
In 1942, McClintock s profession of becoming a scientist was secured when she
received a haven at the Carnegie Institution of Washington at Cold Spring Harbor,
where she has remained ever since. Later, she was elected to the National
Academy of Science and then became president of the Genetics Society of
America. In her forties, McClintock discovered genetic transportation. Today she is
a Nobel laureate and has received many other awards and prizes for her work (42).
Not only does McClintock prove to other scientists that she will not give up, but she
sets a nationwide/global example to those of us who do tend to quit
A World Divided by Those Who Can Afford Technology
and...
Imagine a world divided by those who can afford technology and those who
cannot. Those that have access to technology are the richest in the world, and
those that do not are stuck in poverty with no way to improve their economic
status. It sounds like the starting lines of a Hollywood movie but it is a growing
issue in America and abroad. The digital divide is the divide or gap between people
who have access to technology and those that do not. The divide is creating
problems for schools who require more and more assignments to be done on a
computer. Also, having the internetis having the power of information and
knowledge that not everyone has the ability to access. Other countries suffer from
the digital divide at a staggering percentage compared to US, UK and Europe.
(Crawford) In the United States the ability to get internet access is usually limited
to where you live. There are many homes in the US where there is not reliable
internet access. There are elementary schools that require papers, homework and
research to be done on computers. The students that do not have easy access to a
computer will have a strong disadvantage over those that do. Schools are getting
better and more advanced computer labs but not all students can stay after school to
complete their homework, if they are required to take the bus. In 1995 the Commerce
Department published its findings on the digital divide. They found geographic,
economic and racial gaps between
Fifties Australian Racism Essay
We all know Australia is an amazing place where approximately everyone is laid

blood to be a leader, and you get paid considerably more compared to other countries.
Although this continent is unfortunately not perfect as, in Australia there are two
main types of racism. Aboriginal racism and multicultural racism. Racism is a
terrible force as it has destroyed lives with verbal and physical abuse because they are
of a different race. So we must change our ways. Examples of the soul crushing
creature known formally as Racism are shown in the story Tri by Francs Echin and
Fifties Australia by Phillip Knightley.
Tri focuses on the multicultural racism in Australia. In the current case Asian racism.

In conclusion we are very fortunate country that others envy but like all countries,
we have a dark side. This dark side is unleashed in Tri by Franc Echin and in Fifties

Australia s history. These texts do not exaggerate the horror of racism as we have all

Postmodernism On The Movie Zombieland
While watching a movie, we often refer to the movie s genre s category when we
browse the cinema titles. We pick and choose according to our likings, purchase a
ticket and enjoy the movie. Simple. However, what comes to mind in this industry
and the art of film making is the evolution of the existing filmgenresin today s wide
market of movies. The movie genres that we have seen over the years have
constantly altered itself and improved from the horror genre for example
Nosferatu (Murnau.F.W , 1922) to Insidious: Chapter 3 (Whannel. L, 2015) and
then a blend of genres as seen in Zombieland (Fleischer. R, 2009). As Hayward. S

When analysing a genre, Bordwell and Thompson (2009, p. 331) states that a genre
consists of conventions which filmmakers use it to determine the elements to work
with, while viewers use it as an indication of what to expect from the film they are
watching. When we watch a movie, our minds are constantly finding significant
elements to latch on and to relate, when our minds have mapped out a certain
recognisable pattern in the film, we can finally categorise the genre of film that we
are watching and thus decide whether to agree with the stated genre or otherwise.
Out of the years of genre theory, theoreticians have acknowledged the significance of
semantics and syntax but only as separate entities. In their discourse, the two
approaches state that the semantic approach can be used for a wide number of films
but lacks in descriptive power while the syntactic is the vice versa. From A Semantic
/Syntactic Approach To Film Genre(Altman. R, 1984), Rick Altman proposes an
approach of combining both semantic and syntactic approaches to analyse a film s
genre. In his journal, he discussed
Influenza Virus Life Cycle
Influenza A viruses are enveloped, single stranded, negative sense RNA viruses
which contain eight gene segments. The influenza virus life cycle can be divided
into the four stages: entry of virus inside the host cell entry of vRNPs (also known as
viral nucleoproteins) into the nucleus of host cell , transcription and replication of the
viral RNA, export of the vRNPs from the nucleus and finally leading towards
assembly and budding of newly formed Influenza virusfrom the host cell membrane.
The virus infection is initiated by binding of the virus to sialic acid host cell surface
receptors, and the entry of pathogen is mediated by receptor mediated endocytosis.
The next step involves the fusion of viral envelope and the host cell membrane....

The synthesis of the viral glycoproteins HA NA starts in the cytoplasm and later
these growing polypeptide chains are transported to the endoplasmic reticulum where
the proteins are modified and assembled into trimers and tetramers ( Samji
T.,2009).These proteins are then transported through the Golgi apparatus and the
trans Golgi network to the plasma membrane of the cell where they inserted finally.
The synthesis and folding of viral core proteins occur entirely in the cytoplasm. NP
and the RNA polymerase components interact with newly synthesized viral RNA to
form RNPs. The M1 protein forms interaction with the C terminal domains of HA
and NA protein on the cell plasma membrane. The newly formed RNPs interact
with the M1 protein. This interaction also stops re entry of RNPs inside the nucleus
of the cell. After attachment of RNPs to M1protein where it act as a bridge on the
inner half of the cell plasma membranes, in a process of budding, the new virus
particles are assembled . The progeny virions bud off from the host cell. (Shi
etal.,2014).As soon as budding takes place, the new virions are still attached to the
cell surface through interaction of the HA with sialic acid moieties on cellular

Henrietta Lacks Character Analysis
Throughout the years inequality between races and genders has become a recurring
issue in our world, especially throughout the United States and Latin America. These
issues are seen even today but were much more frequent in the past. While focusing
on the 1950s to the 1990s, racial inequality and gender inequality serve as major
themes in many events including the story of Henrietta Lacks, the dictatorships in

Henrietta Lacks was born on August 1, 1920 in Roanoke, Virginia (Skloot, 2010).

The Chilean dictatorship was led by Augusto Pinochet from 1973 to 1990 (). Gender
inequality from the Chilean dictatorship was shown very accurately in the movie
Missing (1982). In the movie we follow an American woman named Beth searching
for her journalist husband Charlie in Chile during the 1980s. At the end of the movie
we find out that Beth never finds Charlie and that he is most likely being tortured or
has died at the hands of the Chilean government. This was a common occurrence in
Chile during this time, as seen in the movie when Beth and Ed, Charlie s dad, search
for Charlie in different morgues and hospitals (Gavras, 1982). While people of all
races were being targeted by the government, Americans were targeted more for three
reasons. Firstly, Americans were foreigners in Chile, which made the government
more suspicious of them than other citizens. Secondly, many Americans in Chile at
the time were journalists like Charlie. The Chilean dictatorship was very specific with
its media and wanted to censor anything related to their government. This made them
extra strict with American journalists. Lastly, Americans were considered the
minority in Chile at the time, thus making them more susceptible to discrimination
and segregation. In Argentina, Juan Peron led the dictatorship from 1976 to 1983.

Analysis Of Spirited Away By Hayao Miyazaki
When do we truly grow up? In most modern day societies, there is a legal age
where young people legally become adults, in this country it is once the clock
strikes 12 on the 18th birthday. In popular science, becoming mature means your
prefrontal cortex has finally fully developed around 24 or 25 years of age for
important decision making moments. Others perceive being all grown up when they

Miyazakis most acclaimed animation film Spirited Away, Miyazaki s shares his
perception on what it means to become mature through an adventurous story of a 10

Spirited Away is a film that is chock full life lessons. It is very dense in symbolism

one very prominent theme that Miyazaki wants to explain to his young audience is
the dangers of greediness and the freedom that could be found in selflessness.
Both humans and spirits all have qualities of covetousness in Spirited Away. In the

The Struggle Of Catholicism In Fifteenth Century Europe
Before fifteenth century, the existence of Catholicism had been the most predominant
force in Europe regarding not only spiritually leading the people but also effectively
controlling numerous of political and social aspects (Bireley,226). Art and literature
were contributed to the spreading and accentuating of Catholic dogmas. Being
granted by such sovereignty, popes, such as PopeGregory VII, even had the power to
excommunicate kings, and thus publicly humiliated the secular leaders
(Schipper,120). However, after fifteenth century, the power of the popes along with
Christendom itself was significantly diminished. The power struggle between the

country, France, along with Sweden, entered the war on the Protestant side (Philip,
52). According to french king Henry IV: Paris is well worth a Mass , for the
significance political safety was exceeding the importance of religion itself. The
decision made by France was sign of abandoning religious recognition for political
benefits (Asch,51), while risking being censored by papal supremacy.
Hardly was it difficult to observe the power shifts from religious leaders to secular
leaders. The disputations over taxing rights first raised dissatisfactory and indignation
towards the catholic church, while then inspiring rebellions and creating
Protestantism. The conversion of King Henry VIII was a public challenge to
Catholicism from secular leaders, convincing more people to become protestants.
Finally, the political intention of France entering the Thirty Years War
Vignette, Four Skinny Trees
The Power of Hoping I had never voyaged alone nor had any kind of independent
occurrence until the summer of fifth grade. Going to overnight camp was always a
topic of conversation in my family. My grandmother, aunts, and mom all
experienced summers up in serene Maine, and it was finally my turn to undergo
what they had. Despite being an unaccompanied minor, I boarded a plane to
Maine, eager to start my journey. I was picked up by a counselor who then drove
me to my new home for the next month. My destination was an acreage of
unfamiliar girls, all reuniting with their closest friends after a never ending school
year. I roamed the camp alone, hopeful that another lone girl would approach me and
we d become the best of friends. But... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

hardest to get to know the other girls at camp. Likewise, through numerous
instances, both in Four Skinny Trees and in the entire novel, Cisneros shows that
Esperanza s ability to act on achieving her goals is what pushes her over the edge.
Esperanza s hopes and dreams are so fervent, nothing could stop her from fulfilling
them. Cisneros writes Keep, keep, keep trees say when I sleep. They teach (75).
Unlike Esperanza, the other women in the novel merely await their place by the
window (Cisneros 11) instead of taking action. Rather than giving up on her dreams,

  • 4. The Great Coral Reef Of Florida For this assignment, we were asked to choose of our past presentation topics and write and essay to elaborate more on whichever topic we pick. The topic I decided to elaborate more on is the Great Coral Reef of Florida. There are many important aspects to look at other than facts about the Great Coral Reef, but also the effects it is facing as well as how it plays a role in the economy, as in terms of bringing in money for the communities. Each topic that I am going to talk about mainly comes from information found by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is a federal agency focused on the condition of the oceans and the atmosphere. They provide information and data about life on earth, our oceans, atmosphere, and the Nation s living marine resources. The Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) is the Florida government agency charged with environmental protection. It is under the nominal control of the governor. First, I am going to talk about the importance of coralreefs. Coral reefs are some of the most diverse and valuable ecosystems on Earth. They are home to 4,000 species of fish, 800 species of hard coral, and hundreds of other species. Scientists believe that there are another 1 to 8 million unidentified species (NOAA). According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, new drugs are being developed from
  • 5. Improving the Value Chain With Corporate Social... The realm of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is to increase business profitability and opportunities by making improvements in terms of operational effectiveness throughout the value chain (Rangan, Chase Karim, 2012). This increasingly popular CSR among corporate and academic leaders is synonymous to the shared valueframework, whereby organizations seek to co create economic and social value. According to Ridurnolu, Prhalad and Rangaswami (2009), corporations from the United States recognize the business value of revolutionizing new manufacturing and technology that cut operating costs while minimizing impacts on the environment. This CSR domain focuses on operational efficiency and also building revenue, with the initiativeto be determined by the ability to improve the corporate bottom line while at the same time returning social value. To achieve that, the strategy is to reengineer a corporation s entire value chain, which stems from natural resource extraction and sourcing to manufacturing, shipping and product delivering. An example would be Nike s establishment of their Code of Conduct which oversees its entire production supply chain. Nike s code consists of requirements that their employees be given basic rights such as fair compensations, safe and healthy work environment and ethical treatment in the workplace (Nike, Inc, 2010). According to Angeles (2014), the company also launched an environment management information system that reduces the negative

  • 7. Description Of A Man s Voice We sat on a cheap wooden bench in the security room in the back of Lord and Taylor, our bags lay on their sides, the contents spilled across the concrete floor. Little white tags hung from the fabric, a few seams were noticeably ripped along the side ribbing of the clothing. Computer screens encompassed the room, the surveillance footage rotated intermittently from Camera 1 to Camera 2 to Dressing Room Camera. The man s voice was barely audible through the wall behind me, as he called my parents and the authorities. He came back into the room with the woman who had grabbed my arm as I exited the department store, announcing that the price for all of the products I had stolen totaled to approximately $1,300 though he hadn t calculated in the damages of the torn clothing where the security buttons were ripped out. My best friend, better known as my fellow thief, called her mom to retrieve us. I used the thick silence of that car ride to prepare something mitigating to say to my mother. When I delicately, respectfully, quietly entered the foyer, my mom sat waiting, drilling me with questions. As I entered the foyer, my mom, who had been undoubtedly stewing in her own thoughts as she awaited my arrival, drilled me with questions. Why would you do this? Because it s fun. • 8. Essay about Maximizing Production in the Food Industry Introduction One of the most important management activities in today s economy is to improve performance, especially labor productivity, because almost every manufacturing process involves human work. Not only the physical work, but also the mental manpower is crucial to achieve the objectives of the organization. Increased productivity includes greater motivation, personal participation and better performance of work in the foodservice organization. For institutional food service, improving labor productivity can be more challenging because of budget pressure and strict regulations. Many studies have been done on working environment, management skills, vocational training and so on. Some general management skills, such as vocational ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Continuing Vocational Training Survey (CVTS) recorded the degree and intensity of training activities in the firm they studied; and it was the key feature in this study, because CVST solved the arguments of adding up a variety of economic activities with wide differences in terms of capital or labor intensity (Sala Silva, 2012). Besides CVTS, intensity in research and development, job training process, degree of capitalization, and general education were also considered as factors in their calculation model, so the conclusion was able to apply to other general professions. Accordingly, human capital is also important for food service industry and it can promote economic growth dramatically. The result of study from Sala and Silva can be applied to food service industry as well. Proper vocational training before and during the employment can definitely increase labor productivity. Training for new employees, such as food safety, skills of handwashing, policy and skills of using certain machines, will help new employees to fit in work quickly and reduce the chances of operational error. Based on what we learned in class, improvements in design and operation of kitchen equipment is one of the applications of productivity improvement. Continued vocational training can inform employees the updated information about computerized machines, menu, new policy and regulations and customers feedback as well.

The Dangers Of Money And Greed In The Pardoners Tale The danger of money and greed was important in chaucer s time because it describes the character and what that character was like. For example The immoral Pardoner, who, in a sense, sells away his soul for the sake of his own avarice, puzzles many modern readers with his strange logic. Already having laid his considerable guilt upon the table, this corrupted agent of the Church attempts to pawn off his counterfeit relics for a generous price. Also in the Pardoner s tale the rioters show the dangers on money and greed because they live loose lives and spend time gambling and drinking in pubs, they are also disgusting and hateful. A brief summary of the Pardoner tale is The pardoner is a beautiful blonde haired man who is being loved by everyone. However he is very corrupted and smart and sells fake religious stuff to people saying very good compliment. On the other hand, the reeve is very serious and honest business man. He is very smart enough to know what criminals think and do. The pardoner story tells a great example of the seven deadly sins and reeve s story is mocking of the miller. The rioters make his own plan to buy poison and kill his friends, and at the end the youngest got stabbed and killed by the other two,to celebrate the two drank wine which was poisoned by the young rioter, thus they all died. The moral of this story is that greed can lead to death. Another tale that is an example is the miller s tale, Symkyn, is very well known for stealing other

The Isolation Of Volatile Oils From Cinnamon Carlos Restrepo Dr. Lanni The isolation of Volatile Oils from Cinnamon November 18, 2014 Isolation of Volatile Oil from Cinnamon Purpose: The purpose of this experiment was to isolate the components of cinnamon by using multiple techniques. The techniques involved in the experiment include: distillation, extraction, filtration, refractomery, gas chromatography, mass spectrometry, and the use of ChemDraw. Introduction: Cinnamon is the second most important spice that is sold throughout the world.1 The word Cinnamon originates from the word cassia. Cassia is the meaning of a plant that mainly contains leguminous genus. Cinnamon bark originates from the culivtated trees of Cinnamomum zeylanicum Nees, Lauraceae.2 Cinnamons usages include: flavoring for foods, medicinal purposes, agricultural needs, and pesticides. Cinnamon does not have a chemical structure, which is replaced for Cinnamaldehyde, which covers 97% of cinnamon. Figure 1 illustrates the chemical structure of Cinnamaldehyde. Terpenoids and isoprene s are located in the volatile oil of cinnamon, which play a major role in the color and odor of cinnamon. Cinnamon has several constituents that include: Cinnamaldehyde, cinnamic acid, coumarin, linalool, eugenol, and methyl cinnamate. These constituents were analyzed further by using technical processes. The isolation of cinnamon oil has evolved over sever years. The isolation originally began as a liquid liquid extraction with methylene chloride

The Intent Behind the Enuma Elish (Creation Epic) Essay The Intent Behind the Enuma Elish The Enuma Elish, often known as The Creation Epic, is often considered the primary source of Mesopotamian cosmology. However, to view the Enuma Elish as a cosmological myth obscures the true intent of the epicГs author. The cosmological elements of the Enuma Elish are secondary to the authorГs effort to explain the supremacy of Marduk, to justify absolute oriental monarchy, and to defend Babylon as the axis mundi. The Enuma Elish was composed in Babylonin the early second millennium B.C.E. Furthermore, the transfer of power to Babylon is illustrated by the subjugation of all gods to the rule of Marduk. After erecting a throne for Marduk, the gods proclaim, Thou art (the most) important of the great gods; Thy destiny is unequaled, thy command is (like that of) AnuГ–To thee we have given kingship over the totality of the whole universe ( Enuma Elish, 36). This statement reflects the reality of the times. During the writing of the Enuma Elish the Old Babylonian Empire weilded supreme power in Mesopotamia. Moreover, the recognition MardukГs absolute rule is etiological in relation to the power of the Babylonian kings. According to Assyriologist Benjamin Foster, the Enuma Elish explains the evolution from early government by elders to absolute monarchy. As the battle between Marduk and Tiamat illustrates, Foster notes the catalyst for this change is portrayed as outside threat calling for a war leader. The leader demanded, as his terms for leadership, absolute obedience, even when the threat of war was removed (Foster, 9). Once the writer of the Enuma Elish set forth the supremacy of the Babylonian God and the precedent for earthly monarchy, he/she turned to the task of translating divine superiority to earthly. The process of translating divine power to earthly power begins on line 50 of Tablet IV of the Enuma Elish. Grateful for MardukГs leadership, the gods construct the

Shiloh, By Bobbie Ann Mason Shiloh , by Bobbie Ann Mason, explores an interesting theme, the distinct parallel between the surface level of what the events of the story are, and the meaning underneath. The theme of this parallel is shown overtly through the images, descriptions, and characterizations of the log cabins in the story, and of Shiloh. Interestingly, the characters and the world they live in are stuck on the surface, shown through how both Leroy and Norma Jean drift on subjects, and through the names in the story. Norma Jean and Leroy s marriage shows an insight on the theme in action because of how their lack of understanding the inner workings of marriage, which causes them to drift apart and eventually separate. One of the most important things in marriage is the ability to communicate, but neither of them are able to do so on a meaningful level. Andrew Jackson began a whole new era in American history. This dealt with the Bank War which was the primary economic dealing of the time in which President Jackson vetoed the recharter of the Bank of the United States. He did so because he found the bank unconstitutional and thought that it was a near monopoly that only benefited the rich. This stirred public support and brought the class issue to the forefront for many people. Although some looked upon Jackson s decision on the Bank as a bad one, the Jacksonians supported him because they saw it as an attempt to support equality and eliminate a monopoly in the hands of the elite rich. Another such instance that dealt with monopoly and equality of economic opportunity was the Charles River Bridge v. Warren Bridge case in 1837. In it, Chief Justice Taney ruled that new enterprises could not be confined by the implied privileges of old charters, in an effort to allow for competition and free enterprise. The novel focuses on the importance of socially acceptable clothing as an expression of each character s overall desire to reach a state of normalcy, if not perfection. In a sexually possessive manner, Paul asks her to wear one of his shirts, and she replies, Does your laundry write your name on the collar? (157). Mrs. Apple s insistence of an anonymous shirt reveals the importance of clothing in sexual but more importantly secretive nuance. This scenario represents the sexual and gender ambiguity that is present throughout much of the novel: a woman wearing her husband s shirt makes her more matrimonial and more normal , and yet Mrs. Apple is less normal since she continues her sexual exploits Paul while wearing the shirt and by agreeing to wear one of his. Outwardly, her clothing expresses the idea that she is a faithful wife, when in reality she is having an affair with another man. Conversely, in most sexual scenarios, the absence of clothing playing the role as one s normal camouflage induces the character to feel uncomfortable or exposed, thus exposing inner discontentment and other hidden emotions. In the first chapter, Paul roughly pulls down Elaine s pantyhose, leaving her awkwardly waddling around the kitchen until her son appears. The pantyhose is described as a rubber band , restricting her. The scenario with the pantyhose represents Paul s control over Elaine in their sex lives, and her recurring

Masculinity in works such as Tamburlaine the Great or The Roaring Girl is shown in different ways and with varying degrees of spectacle. Tamburlaine displays his masculinitythrough hyper violent acts and high degrees of spectacle, whereas characters such as Laxton and Dapper flaunt their masculinity in different, less violently spectacular means, however, they still participate in embodying the toxic masculine ideal. Understanding masculinity and how it is defined at the time is important to grasping why the portrayals of it in various works involve the aspects that they do. Masculinity as it exists now is a fluid concept, yet in the past leading up the Renaissance it was treated as a rigid set of rules that menmust uphold to be perceived as masculine and in turn make headway in a patriarchal society. Ideas about masculinity and femininity are beginning to be questioned more during the Renaissance in interesting ways, especially when these ideas are presented in the world of the theatre. Absorption spectra study of 5 aminopyridine Schiff base (L1 and L2): The absorption spectrum of probes L1 and L2 (40 ОјM) were investigated in the presence of metals ions in DMSO solvent. As shown in Fig. 1, Schiff base L1 exhibited absorption band at 269 nm, 310 nm, 323 nm and 347 nm; and L2 at 264 nm, 319 nm, 341 nm, 439 nm and 462 nm, that may be attributed to ПЂ ПЂ* charge transfer transition. However, no remarkable changes were observed in absorption spectra after the addition of 1 equivalent various metal ions such as Ag(I), K(I), Li(I) Na(I), Co(II), Cu(II), Cd(II), Pb(II), Mg(II), Hg(II), Mn(II), Al(III), Cr(III), Gd(III) and Nd(III) ions. Interestingly upon the addition of zinc and nickel ions to the probe L1 absorbance peak shifted to higher wavelength (red shift) from 347 nm to 413 nm and 410 nm, respectively. Thus, L1 Zn(II) and L1+Ni(II) complexes exhibited color change from colorless to intense yellow color. Similarly, the addition of Fe(III) and UO2(II) to the probe L2, absorbance peak lead to decrease at 439/462 nm while new peak appear at 355 nm and 366/ 515 nm, respectively. Consequently, the absorbance peaks of L2 Fe(III) complexes shifted to UV region, thus light yellow color turned to colorless, and in case of L2 UO2(II) complex absorbance peak showed red shift effect, that resulted in dark yellow color (Fig. 2a and b). Thus, absorption spectral changes were enabled to detect Ni(II), Zn(II), Fe(III) and UO2(II) as a naked eye

However the consequence of this idea is that the clothes in shops would be more expensive for shoppers, although the price may not be much more than it would be not some shoppers might not be happy about having to spend more money on clothes that they may only wear a few times. Another solution to this problem would be for the company to pay the workers more for their products but still keep the prices in stores the same. The company would lose some of their profits doing this but shoppers would not have to pay more for their clothes and they would be helping to improve the lives of thousands of workers. A study from 2002 by economist Robert Pollin shows that the price of products being sold in shops would only have to be increased by 1.8% to double the worker s salary. This shows that the prices in shops would not have to increase by a lot to change the lives of the workers. This study also shows that the majority of people are willing to spend up to 15% more if the know that the products that they are buying have came from a factory which has good working

The Search for Identity in Amy Tan s The Joy Luck Club Essay The Search for Identity in The Joy Luck Club When Chinese immigrants enter the United States of America, it is evident from the start that they are in a world far different than their homeland. Face to face with a dominant culture that often times acts and thinks in ways contrary to their previous lives, immigrants are on a difficult path of attempting to become an American. Chinese immigrants find themselves often caught between two worlds: the old world of structured, traditional and didactic China and the new world of mobile, young and prosperous America. They nostalgically look back at China longing for a simpler life but look at the United States as a land of opportunity and freedom that they did not know in China. ... The second generation is busy assimilating absorbing American beliefs and practices even if those beliefs are negative views of their own race. But can the second generation Chinese Americans be truly happy as completely assimilated American for in this they are denying their heritage which runs much deeper than sallow skin and almond shaped eyes? Undoubtedly, the most profound struggle for the second generation Chinese American will be to seek out their identity and to find some fusion between the polarized worlds in their lives. The second generation Chinese American s search for identity is indeed a challenge; however, the second generation Chinese American woman search for identity is magnified. For not only does the Chinese American woman struggle to find her ethnic identity, she must also find her strength and power as a woman. It is a dual struggle. But not only is it a dual struggle, it is a dual reality. The two entities cannot be separated. As Shirley Geok Lim and Amy Ling stated so eloquently in their introduction the Reading the Literatures of Asian America, race and gender categories are never unitary and separate but are historically and socioculturally embedded
  • 32. Following Your Dreams What is the underlying reason as to why we do not fulfill our dreams? Maybe it is because we lack the inner motivation and desire within ourselves; or we tend to blame other people for our failures; or perhaps we are missing the resources that we desperately need. Sometimes it may be because others discourage us. A dream is a personal desire to accomplish something that we want to achieve, but we do not necessarily know where to begin or even have enough confidence within ourselves to fulfill it. A specific factor that plays a major role in fulfilling our dreams can be the issue of gender. Many people feel that women do not have the same opportunities that males are given in specific fields. For example, the field of science deals with... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They feel we need to be more realistic while following our dreams so that we do not set up disappointment for our selves. Like Morgan and Emerson, we must try to believe and have hope that one will pursue their dreams and go further. In other words, we must be supportive! If people are not giving us support while we are making dreams and trying to follow through with them, then we may give up. People would start to feel like their dreams were not important or worthwhile. As a result, we tend to lack motivation to even start our goals and dreams. So, how exactly do we figure out our dreams and then follow through with them no matter what anybody else says? Perhaps we can look to those like McClintock that have already set and started fulfilling their goals, and then do what works best for us. In 1942, McClintock s profession of becoming a scientist was secured when she received a haven at the Carnegie Institution of Washington at Cold Spring Harbor, where she has remained ever since. Later, she was elected to the National Academy of Science and then became president of the Genetics Society of America. In her forties, McClintock discovered genetic transportation. Today she is a Nobel laureate and has received many other awards and prizes for her work (42). Not only does McClintock prove to other scientists that she will not give up, but she sets a nationwide/global example to those of us who do tend to quit

Those that have access to technology are the richest in the world, and those that do not are stuck in poverty with no way to improve their economic status. It sounds like the starting lines of a Hollywood movie but it is a growing issue in America and abroad. The digital divide is the divide or gap between people who have access to technology and those that do not. The divide is creating problems for schools who require more and more assignments to be done on a computer. Also, having the internetis having the power of information and knowledge that not everyone has the ability to access. Other countries suffer from the digital divide at a staggering percentage compared to US, UK and Europe. (Crawford) In the United States the ability to get internet access is usually limited to where you live. There are many homes in the US where there is not reliable internet access. There are elementary schools that require papers, homework and research to be done on computers. The students that do not have easy access to a computer will have a strong disadvantage over those that do. Schools are getting better and more advanced computer labs but not all students can stay after school to complete their homework, if they are required to take the bus. In 1995 the Commerce Department published its findings on the digital divide. They found geographic, economic and racial gaps between

When analysing a genre, Bordwell and Thompson (2009, p. 331) states that a genre consists of conventions which filmmakers use it to determine the elements to work with, while viewers use it as an indication of what to expect from the film they are watching. When we watch a movie, our minds are constantly finding significant elements to latch on and to relate, when our minds have mapped out a certain recognisable pattern in the film, we can finally categorise the genre of film that we are watching and thus decide whether to agree with the stated genre or otherwise. Out of the years of genre theory, theoreticians have acknowledged the significance of semantics and syntax but only as separate entities. In their discourse, the two approaches state that the semantic approach can be used for a wide number of films but lacks in descriptive power while the syntactic is the vice versa. From A Semantic /Syntactic Approach To Film Genre(Altman. R, 1984), Rick Altman proposes an approach of combining both semantic and syntactic approaches to analyse a film s genre. In his journal, he discussed

The synthesis of the viral glycoproteins HA NA starts in the cytoplasm and later these growing polypeptide chains are transported to the endoplasmic reticulum where the proteins are modified and assembled into trimers and tetramers ( Samji T.,2009).These proteins are then transported through the Golgi apparatus and the trans Golgi network to the plasma membrane of the cell where they inserted finally. The synthesis and folding of viral core proteins occur entirely in the cytoplasm. NP and the RNA polymerase components interact with newly synthesized viral RNA to form RNPs. The M1 protein forms interaction with the C terminal domains of HA and NA protein on the cell plasma membrane. The newly formed RNPs interact with the M1 protein. Gender inequality from the Chilean dictatorship was shown very accurately in the movie Missing (1982). In the movie we follow an American woman named Beth searching for her journalist husband Charlie in Chile during the 1980s. At the end of the movie we find out that Beth never finds Charlie and that he is most likely being tortured or has died at the hands of the Chilean government. This was a common occurrence in Chile during this time, as seen in the movie when Beth and Ed, Charlie s dad, search for Charlie in different morgues and hospitals (Gavras, 1982). While people of all races were being targeted by the government, Americans were targeted more for three reasons. Firstly, Americans were foreigners in Chile, which made the government more suspicious of them than other citizens. Secondly, many Americans in Chile at the time were journalists like Charlie. The Chilean dictatorship was very specific with its media and wanted to censor anything related to their government. This made them extra strict with American journalists. Lastly, Americans were considered the minority in Chile at the time, thus making them more susceptible to discrimination and segregation. In Argentina, Juan Peron led the dictatorship from 1976 to 1983. During this time many people were taken by the Argentinian

Data was collected from 177 New Jersey nurses, attending an emergency care conference, using a 56 question survey. The results were analyzed and compiled into 5 different tables in regards to the susceptibility, role, knowledge and experience of nursing in disaster preparedness and response. A strength of the study was that 79% of the nurses who completed the survey were special certified and 70.5% of the respondents have more than 10 years of experience in emergency nursing. This allowed for the researchers to gather information that was accurate and actually pertained to the population. There were several limitations of the study including, the small sample size and potential demographic bias.
