• Synonyms : somraj, jangli jeera, centratherum
anthelminticum, Purple flebane.
• Biological source : It is obtained from fruit &
seeds of Centratherum Anthelminticum.
• Family : Asteraceae
• Habbit:
• Throughout india
• Altitude up to1650m in himalayas: khasi hills
• Part used: fruits
• Morphology :
• Size: 4.5-6mm long
• Shape: oblong shape, pointed from one side
& hairy tapered from other end
• Color: dark brown
• Odour: characteristic
• Taste: intensely bitter
• Chemical constituent: fatty
acid,sterols,sesquiterpene,lactones,carbohyd
rates& flavonoids.
• vernolic acid 70.28%, followed by linolic
15.84%, oleic 5.65%& palmitic 2.30%&
Stearic acid 0.42%.
• Saponin

• It has significant anthelmintic action.
• It is used since time immemorial to treat skin
disease.
