This document discusses Bristol Port, a major UK port located on the Severn Estuary, which has one of the highest tidal ranges in the world. Bristol Port has decades of experience operating in the challenging environment of the Severn Estuary, where tidal currents can reach 4m/s and huge amounts of suspended sediments are deposited each tide cycle. Bristol Port regularly dredges over 5 million cubic meters of mud and sediment annually from the dock entrances and navigational channels to maintain safe shipping depths. Monitoring shows that natural changes like migrating sandbanks can shift the seabed by meters over months in the dynamic estuary environment.
