1) Twelve elementary schools from around Jerusalem participated in a treasure hunt game at the Israel Museum where students used clues on a digital platform and the Google Art Project to direct classmates physically at the museum to locate treasures in the galleries.
2) Students had to correctly answer questions about artworks after their classmates found them and take photos as proof before receiving the next clue.
3) The game was meant to inspire the message "The other is me" and brought together words to complete the sentence "Sometimes I am similar, other times I am different but at all times I am equal."

We conceive TELEs (technology-enhanced learning environments) as interactive spaces that positively influence the learning attitude. These learning environments are equipped with technological resources and tools that, with the help of a teacher, facilitate the acquisition of knowledge and skills. That is to say that the teacher is one of the main actors in these spaces, and such spaces do not substitute them.
We present two implementations of such spaces. A set of mobile applications combined with NFC (Near Field Communication) technology allow us to overlay interactivity in everyday learning environments. NFC is a short range wireless technology which permits storing data in sticker-like devices and reading the stored data with NFC enabled phones by approaching the phone to the sticker. NFC enables adding multimedia content to interactive spaces – the data read from an NFC tag can trigger multimedia content to be played on a mobile phone. Using this technology, an application in a mobile device can propose tasks that a pupil can solve by interacting with objects around.
We have organized two pilot studies with two groups of children. Both studies have been designed and implemented by an interdisciplinary team formed by researchers from the fields of Computer Science and Education. Teachers participated actively in the studies as well.

'Pinball Wizard' by the London Museums Group. A one-day conference of speakers who presented topics connected to games inside and outside the museums and heritage sector.
Topics were about how museum games should be made, the issue of gamification in museums, Pokemon Go, making museums a play area for children, the Science Museum and their games experience. The Science Museum also included information about the application of games in US Museums. The final sections focussed on pop-up games in exhibitions and education as well as the role of play in different environments.

The eTwinning project “Volunteens Reasearchers in…STEMLand” aimed to introduce STEM activities in the educational praxis by enhancing learning via Science, Technology, Mathematics and Engineering (STEM) without theories and unnecessary terminology, and through analytical and problem-solving methods. At the same time, this project enabled the development of innovation skills, algorithmic & programming standards and team spirit demonstration. In parallel with language skills development, participants researched how STEM implementation may help everyday life and discovered how they can support in volunteering based actions. Teens as Researchers observed, designed and delivered questionnaires related to issues of the project and took interviews in order to triangulate the results of their research and evaluate their process.

It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

The other is me - Telematic Treasure Hunt at the Israel Museum, Jerusalem
March 2014 The Israel Museum,
Jerusalem, together with the Directorate
of Computers in Educational
Administration, in the Jerusalem
Municipality and the Department of
Information Technology in the Ministry of
Education launched a challenging
treasure hunt where elementary school
students from 12 schools from around
Jerusalem sought out their ‘treasure’ in
an exciting game that took place
throughout the Museum campus.
2. The treasure hunt took place simultaneously in the school and in the Museum with the class-based
students directing their representatives in the Museum to the eight treasures located in the galleries by
using the Google Art Project.
3. As the students received their first clue that appeared on their specially built digital platform,
(LINOIT), they dispatched their representatives in the Museum – between 3-5 students
accompanied by an adult – to the specific location in the gallery.
4. The Museum team’s role was to
take a photo of the object using
their Android tablet and send it in
by email to be uploaded into the
game’s dedicated Google+ gallery
as ‘proof’ of their discovery.

10. Meanwhile, the classroom-located students had to answer specific questions about the artwork
and upload their answers into the system.

replied correctly to
the first set of
questions and the
successful upload of
the Museum’s team’s
‘proof’ of finding the
art in the gallery did
the system release
the next of the eight
challenges. (The
“system” being the
dedicated
Municipality staff
who managed the
game from the
operation center in
the Museum New
Media Center).
11. At this point in the game,
the Museum-based
students came back to a
central point in the
Museum to receive an
envelope with the first
printed word of the full
sentence they would
need in order to
complete the game.
12. The telematic challenge took place during Education Week and was inspired by the message “The
other is me”. As the game moved forward, and as each team found the correct solutions and posted
the correct photo, further words were added to eventually come together to make up the sentence
"Sometimes I am similar, other times I am different but at all times I am equal”.

both Hebrew and Arabic
according to school’s
requirements, but all the
students seemed to be
competent enough in
English to be able to use
the maps and
explanations in GAP to
send their friends
scrambling around the
galleries and Art Garden.
15. After many hours of intrepid excitement the winning team received their prize from Jerusalem Mayor
Nir Barkat in the presence of Moshe Tur-Paz, Director, Jerusalem Education Administration (MANHI)
and National ICT Supervisor in the Ministry of Education, Ronit Nehemiah. The ceremony was
webcast to the schools in real-time so that all of the students could ‘take part’ in the celebration.
