Collision avoidance systems (CAS) are designed to prevent rear-end collisions using sensors and automatic braking. CAS has both passive safety features like seatbelt pretensioners, and active safety like automatic braking. Road accidents are a major cause of deaths, showing the need for CAS. The CAS configuration uses millimeter-wave radar sensors and an electronic control unit connected to pretensioners and brakes. It provides visual, audio, and automatic braking warnings as another vehicle approaches. Many automakers now include CAS, and it could expand to aircraft and rail in the future to help prevent accidents.
