This document discusses some of the challenges faced by small gastroenterology fellowship programs, including limited resources, educational opportunities, and small faculty sizes. It provides two examples of how motility training has been approached at the US Navy and Scripps Clinic. It also discusses issues with unmotivated faculty members and challenges with research requirements in small programs. Recommendations are made to help compensate faculty for research efforts and for program directors to lead by example in conducting their own research.
