This document discusses interprofessional education (IPE) activities at Flinders University Medical Program. It provides definitions of IPE and outlines why it is important. It describes current IPE activities across different years of the MD program in South Australia, including simulations and placements involving nursing, allied health, and Aboriginal health students. Future ideas for IPE activities in the Northern Territory Medical Program are proposed, such as anatomy peer teaching, deteriorating patient simulations, and palliative care problem-based learning cases. Limitations around funding and curriculum constraints are also noted.
Care in hospital settings is all about the care which is provided in the hospital to the patient. The word patient comes from the Latin word patiens, originally meant “one who suffers”. Care in hospital is the attention or watchful oversight and attentive assistance or treatment for the increasing proportion of population and with the shift in disease patterns from acute illnesses to chronic...

The presentation give a short overview about - What is a Nursing Course? Check out what are the subjects of nursing, qualification required to become a nurse, what does a nurse do and some common nursing careers. ITM Institute offers degree course in Nursing.
Background: Optimum learning environments (LEs) are linked with positive training outcomes for residents. However, there is few data concerning how the residents perceive the learning environments in teaching hospitals. This study aims to analyze the residents’ perceptions of their learning environments.
Methods: This cross-sectional, hospital-based study was carried out between November 2020 and January 2021, using a Postgraduate Hospital Educational Environment Measurement (PHEEM) questionnaire. Statistical analysis was conducted using SPSS 20.
Results: The total number was 45 participants, 40 of them successfully responded. The total Cronbach`s alpha score was 0.93, which reflects good reliability. The full-scale score was 128 out of 160, which indicates a good learning environment. The autonomy score was 44, the teachers' score was 50, and social support was 34. Finally, the overall mean score for females was 43.3 compared to 39.4 for males, with a P-value of 0.55. Furthermore, no significant difference in residents’ perceptions of their learning environment according to their training was observed in this study.
Conclusion: Significant challenges in the LE were identified; more attention and effort should be given, especially to the poorly rated point in this study: the existence of an informative program, clear clinical protocols, and proper setting expectations. The lowest score was for catering, housing. A high social support score indicates a healthy workplace environment and job satisfaction.
Nursing Education programs can include one or two practicum courses in nursing education and leadership. In a typical practicum, you might be expected to work with a nurse educator or administrator in an educational setting and help design, implement, and evaluate nursing education programs. Ed.D. practicums are built to accommodate working nurses.
ANM Nursing, or Auxiliary Nursing Midwifery courses primarily deals with the health care sector. Candidates who pursue ANM courses, will explore what health care for people means, setting up of operation theatre, taking care of various equipment, maintaining records, and also administering timely medication to patients.

SBIRT is an evidence based approach to the delivery of early intervention and treatment to people with substance use disorders and those at risk of developing these disorders. Collaborative SBIRT Training for Maine’s Future Health Profession Leaders is a three-year grant totaling $870,000 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). The first of its kind to be awarded in Maine, this grant utilizes an interprofessional approach to the development and implementation of training programs to teach UNE students across 8 health professions the skills necessary to provide evidence-based Screening and Brief Intervention as well as Referral to Treatment for patients who are at risk for a substance use disorder (SUD). Additionally, the training will develop the leadership skills needed in order to champion the implementation of SBIRT throughout our healthcare system with the ultimate goal of helping clients avoid substance use disorders.
This presentation deals with SBIRT and Social Work in particular.

4. Interprofessional Education
in the Northern Territory
Medical Program
Muster Unplugged
A/Prof Greg Raymond
Director of Preclinical Education
Years 1 & 2 NTMP
5. Overview
• What is IPE & why is it important
• What IPE activities has Flinder’s
launched across the MD already?
• What future ideas have been talked
about for NTMP?
• Audience ideas & comments welcome
6. Interprofessional Education
• Definitions
“When 2 or more professions learn from and about each
other in order to improve collaboration and the quality of
care” – CAIPE 2002, Center for Advancement of IPE.
• Rationale
“IPE promotes collaborative practice and teamwork,
improves quality of patient care and increases job
satisfaction” – WHO 2010
7. Why is it important?
AMC Standard 4.7
The medical program ensures that students work with, and
learn from and about other health professionals, including
experience working and learning in interprofessional teams.
Flinders University has identified IPE as a strategic focus
(as stated in the recent AMC report) & is working to audit
the current activities and to consolidate a common set of
IPE standards across the School of Medicine.
8. Flinders MD Graduate Outcomes
• Domain 2: Clinical practice - the Flinders University
medical graduate as a practitioner: Can communicate
effectively and culturally appropriately in diverse and
inter-professional health care teams to illicit information
needed to support accurate problem formulation and
optimal health care provision to diverse populations.
• Domain 4: Professionalism and leadership - the
medical graduate as a professional and leader:
Knows and demonstrates a commitment to high
standards of personal and professional behaviour with
patients and their families, colleagues and inter-professional
teams.

ensure good patient care is effected and in doing so
improve their own rapport and communication, both
with patients and with nursing staff

Palliative care staff (nurses & clinicians). End of life
scenarios. Ethical & legal implications. NT context.
24. Future IPE Ideas for NTMP
Year 3
• Palliative Care PBLs
– Potential input from med students who have an
IPE health background (nurses, physio’s, OT etc)
– Issues
• RDH Palliative care team is small and may be difficult to
access
25. Future IPE Ideas for NTMP
Year 3
• Palliative Care PBLs
– Should we re-invent the wheel?
– National Curriculum for Palliative Care
• PCC4U (Palliative Care curriculum for Undergraduates)
• Funded by Australian Government Dep Health and
Ageing
• Participants include UQ, QUT, Flinders, CDU, Curtin
• Comprehensive eLearning modules & focus topics
– Video scenarios including Indigenous patient
26. Future IPE Ideas for NTMP
• Need to contextualise IPE activities for
the NT (rural, remote & indigenous)
• IPE Communication Role plays
– Scripted role plays centred around phone
consultations in a remote setting
– interchanging roles between nursing
students and medical students
– Trialled in Alice Springs
27. Future IPE Ideas for NTMP
• Advanced Studies
– Coursework option (CRH Modules)
– Potential for Advanced Studies course
work to provide interdisciplinary learning
opportunities as the Centre for Remote
Health (CRH) Remote and Indigenous
Health modules have nursing and allied
health streams.
28. Limitations
• Funding
– PRCC has dedicated Government funding, other
sites do not
– Where will the money come from for IPE at other
sites?
• Year 3 Curriculum is in process of change
– New structure currently being finalised
– Year 3 curriculum currently full with little room
– IPE is on a long list of “things to do” with other
things prioritised ahead of it
29. Limitations
• Site Specific Needs
– The many sites where the MD is run may
need it’s own contextualised IPE activities
– More work for each site to create activities
– Need to work closely with the Flinders Year
3 team to identify what aspects we can
introduce across all sites and what
activities need to be contextualised
