ISRO (Indian Space Research Organization) was established in 1969 with a vision to use space technology to benefit India and its people. ISRO's missions include exploring the moon through the Chandrayaan-1 mission from 2008-2009, studying Mars through the Mars Orbiter Mission launched in 2014, and enabling multi-wavelength astronomical observations through the Astrosat mission launched in 2015. ISRO also aims to send humans into space through its Manned Space Flight Programme, with crewed missions planned for 2022 that will make India the fourth nation to launch humans into low Earth orbit.
