Indian Space Research Organisation(ISRO)
 The Indian National Committee for Space Research(INCOSPAR) was set
up in 1962 by Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of Indian
Government under Dr. Vikram Sarabhai to formulate.
 The committee took over the responsibilities of the Department of
Atomic Energy in space science and research.
 INCOSPAR eventually grew into the Indian Space Research
Organisation(ISRO) in 1969
Father of ISRO
Vikram Ambalal Sarabhai (12 August 1919 –
30 December 1971) was an Indian scientist
and innovator widely regarded as the father
of Indian’s space program. Sarabhai received
the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Medal in

Dr. Kalam was also part of the INCOSPAR
committee working under Vikram Sarabhai,
the renowned space scientist.
In 1969, Dr. Kalam was transferred to the
Indian Space Research Organisation(ISRO).
In July 1980, Dr. Kalam was the project
director of India’s first Satellite Launch
Vehicle (SLV-III) which successfully deployed
the Rohini satellite in near –earth orbit.
Chairman of ISRO
Sivan joined ISRO in 1982 to participate on
Polar Satellite Launch vehicle
(PSLV)project.
Sivan worked on the design and
development of launch vehicles for ISRO.
He was appointed as the director od
ISRO’s Liquid Propulsion System Centre on
2 July 2014.

The Mars Mission of India
Introduction
 The Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM), also called Mangalyaan “Mars-craft” is
a Mars Orbiter launched into Earth orbit on 5 November 2013 by the
Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
 It was successfully inserted into orbit of Mars on 24 September 2014,
making India the first country in the world to successfully send a
spacecraft to Mars on its very first attempt.
Amazing facts about Mars
 Cheapest mars mission ever.
 Developed and deployed in 15 months.
 India is the country which made it in its first
attempt.
 NASA extended incredible support to this
mission.
Achievements of ISRO
 On February 2017, ISRO launched 104
satellites at once (PSLV-C37).
 ISRO launched South Asia Satellite GSAT-9.
 ISRO launched GSLV-Mk3, its biggest rocket
yet.
 ISRO launched over 200 foreign satellites into
orbit.
