This document describes a simulation of a shunt active power filter with a PI controller to mitigate current harmonics from nonlinear loads. It begins with an introduction to power quality issues caused by nonlinear loads and an overview of active power filters. It then describes the system configuration, including the PI controller used to regulate the DC link voltage of the active power filter inverter. Simulation results in MATLAB/Simulink show the PI controller is effective at eliminating current harmonics on the source side, improving the power factor to near unity and reducing the total harmonic distortion to 2.22%. The system is concluded to offer fast compensation of current harmonics and improved power quality through use of the shunt active power filter with PI control.

Efficacy of Facts in Power Oscillation Damping and Renewable IntegrationIOSRJEEE
This document summarizes research on using flexible AC transmission system (FACTS) devices to improve power oscillation damping and facilitate renewable energy integration. It discusses how power oscillations can lead to instability if not controlled and how FACTS devices like STATCOM and SVC can enhance stability. It presents simulations of the IEEE 14-bus system that demonstrate improved damping from these controllers. Eigenvalue analysis shows STATCOM shifts modes further into the stable region than SVC. Both STATCOM and SVC integration helps renewable sources by mitigating power quality issues to allow more distributed generation on the grid.
This document presents a multi-objective fuzzy-genetic algorithm approach for optimal placement and sizing of shunt Flexible AC Transmission System (FACTS) controllers. The objectives are to maximize the distance to voltage instability, minimize voltage deviations, and minimize the size of the FACTS controller. Membership functions are developed for each objective and a fitness function is defined based on the membership functions. The approach is tested on the IEEE 14-bus system and results show that placing a STATCOM at bus 9 provides the best improvement in voltage stability and profile.
This document summarizes a study on using STATCOM to mitigate source current harmonics in a grid-connected wind generating system. A Bang-Bang controller based on hysteresis current control is developed for the STATCOM. Simulation results using MATLAB/SIMULINK show that integrating a wind farm with the grid introduces harmonics to the source current. However, connecting STATCOM at the point of common coupling significantly reduces the total harmonic distortion and keeps it within allowed limits. The Bang-Bang controller injects compensating currents from the STATCOM to make the source current harmonic-free and improve power quality.
This document presents a new control scheme for a STATCOM (Static Synchronous Compensator) to improve power quality in a grid-connected wind energy system. A STATCOM equipped with a battery energy storage system is connected at the point of common coupling between the wind farm and the grid. The STATCOM control scheme uses a hysteresis current control technique to inject compensating current and regulate the grid voltage. Simulation results show the STATCOM can mitigate reactive power demand and harmonics, as well as respond quickly to changes in load to help regulate voltage and current waveforms at the point of connection to the grid.
Harmonics created by nonlinear loads such as arc furnaces, cycloconverters and motor drives destroys the power quality in the system. They not only affect the working of adjacent loads but also shorten the life of power equipment by creating excessive losses. ‘Shunt Active Power Filter’ is a modern addition to family of compensating devices. It has superior qualities over its contemporaries namely SVCs and STATCOMs. It not only mitigates harmonics within the allowable limits defined by IEEE Std 519-1992, but also compensates unbalancing and reactive power in the system. Consequently, only active power is supplied by the source thus power factor approaches unity. A fully functional Simulink model of Shunt Active Power Filter has been designed based on ‘Instantaneous Power Theory’ or ‘p-q Theory’. The results of simulation comply with all the features described by the theory, justifying employment of SAPF in the industry.
This document summarizes a research article that proposes using a Unified Power Quality Compensator (UPQC) device to regulate voltage and mitigate fluctuations at a weak grid connection to a wind farm. The UPQC uses internal control strategies to regulate the voltage at the wind farm terminals using its series converter, and uses its shunt converter to filter wind farm power and prevent voltage fluctuations. The control strategy manages active and reactive power sharing between the series and shunt converters through a common DC link. Simulation results showed the UPQC approach effectively regulated voltage during load changes and rejected power fluctuations from tower shadow effects at the wind turbines.
Close Loop Control of Induction Motor Using Z-Source InverterIJSRD
In this paper a new closed loop control of induction motor fed by a Z – source inverter based on the vector control or field oriented control strategy is presented. Induction motor is supplied by Z – source inverter, in the Z – source inverter the term Z denotes impedance which means a combination of L & C element which are cross connected. The Z-source inverter consists of a unique impedance network (or circuit) to couple the inverter main circuit to the power supply, hence providing great features that cannot be observed in the conventional voltage-source inverter and current-source inverters in which capacitor and inductor are used, respectively. In the field oriented control method or vector control method speed of the induction motor, torque & 3 phase stator current is given to the field oriented controller and gate pulses for the inverter is generated to obtain the desired operation of the induction motor.
The document summarizes research on using a Dynamic Voltage Restorer (DVR) with a Z-Source Inverter (ZSI) to mitigate power quality issues for a welding load. It describes modeling a DVR system using MATLAB/Simulink to compensate for voltage sags, swells and total harmonic distortion (THD) injected at the source. Simulation results show the DVR is able to maintain a constant output voltage and current at the load during faults, regulating the voltage. The ZSI provides benefits like boosting the DC link voltage, reducing current and voltage ripples, and operating under short circuits. The control strategy uses sinusoidal pulse width modulation to generate gate pulses for the inverter.

A novel power converter that can perform both voltage and frequency conversion was proposed. Inappropriate power supply can damage sensitive sub-components and render the connected device inoperable. Henceforth, the proposed voltage–frequency converter acts as an interface to plug any electrical device directly into an electrical socket and provide the voltage and frequency required. The converter used a synchronous reference frame proportional–integral (SRFPI) controller to regulate the instantaneous output voltage and to improve steady state performance. Because the PI controller works together with the synchronous reference frame controller, it is difficult to tune the PI control parameters. To overcome this issue, a new meta heuristic optimization technique called lightening search algorithm (LSA) optimization was used to identify the optimum PI parameter values. A detailed description of the system operation and control strategy was presented. Finally, the performance of the converter was analyzed and verified by simulation and experimental results. The experimental result has shown that the proposed system has satisfactory output voltage and frequency under different input voltages.

The study aims to determine the significant difference between traditional aquaponics and reconstructed aquaponics systems propagating tomatoes in terms of height, weight, girth, and number of fruits. The reconstructed aquaponics system’s higher growth yield results in a much more nourished crop than the traditional aquaponics system. It is superior in its number of fruits, height, weight, and girth measurement. Moreover, the reconstructed aquaponics system is proven to eliminate all the hindrances present in the traditional aquaponics system, which are overcrowding of fish, algae growth, pest problems, contaminated water, and dead fish.
Advanced control scheme of doubly fed induction generator for wind turbine us...IJECEIAES
This paper describes a speed control device for generating electrical energy on an electricity network based on the doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) used for wind power conversion systems. At first, a double-fed induction generator model was constructed. A control law is formulated to govern the flow of energy between the stator of a DFIG and the energy network using three types of controllers: proportional integral (PI), sliding mode controller (SMC) and second order sliding mode controller (SOSMC). Their different results in terms of power reference tracking, reaction to unexpected speed fluctuations, sensitivity to perturbations, and resilience against machine parameter alterations are compared. MATLAB/Simulink was used to conduct the simulations for the preceding study. Multiple simulations have shown very satisfying results, and the investigations demonstrate the efficacy and power-enhancing capabilities of the suggested control system.
Harnessing WebAssembly for Real-time Stateless Streaming PipelinesChristina Lin
Traditionally, dealing with real-time data pipelines has involved significant overhead, even for straightforward tasks like data transformation or masking. However, in this talk, we’ll venture into the dynamic realm of WebAssembly (WASM) and discover how it can revolutionize the creation of stateless streaming pipelines within a Kafka (Redpanda) broker. These pipelines are adept at managing low-latency, high-data-volume scenarios.
