This document describes the design and implementation of a single switch SEPIC converter for an LED driver circuit with power factor correction and an automation system. The system uses a boost PFC converter operating in discontinuous mode to achieve a high power factor. A SEPIC converter is then used to supply a continuous current to the LED driver circuit. A snubber circuit clamps peak voltages and recycles leakage inductor energy. Experimental results showed the system could supply 48V and 2A to the LED load while achieving power factor correction and high efficiency. The system also includes an automation feature to power emergency lamps during a power failure using energy stored in a battery.

By removing the input bridge in conventional PFC converters, the control circuit is simplified; the total harmonics distortion (THD) and power factor (PF) are improved. The PI controller operates in two loops one is the outer control loop which calculates the reference current through LC filter and signal processing. Inner current loop generates PWM switching signals through the PI controller. The output of the proposed PFC topology is verified for prototype using MATLAB circuit simulations. The experimental system is developed, and the simulation results are obtained.

AN ACTIVE PFC WITH FLYBACK DESIGN FOR INTELLIGENCE IN STREET LIGHT APPLICATIONJournal For Research
As the requirement of energy demand is increasing due to rapid industrial development, it is necessary to meet the growing demand of energy. This can be achieved in two ways: find alternate resource to supply power or energy; or reduce the energy consumption of present resources available. The proposed work is basically the design and implementation of an intelligent street light of 50 W power output from the offline converter by using power LED. As power LED draws huge non sinusoidal current due to the presence of AC-DC converter, a Boost PFC and a fly back converter is used for better power factor and for dc voltage regulation. Along with this a PIR sensor and LDR sensors are also used. A PIC microcontroller is used for PWM dimming. This makes to reduce the power consumption in street light especially in urban cities in which most of the power is wasted in lighting streets during late night.

Comprehensive Study of Single-Phase AC-DC Power Factor Corrected Converters w...Asoka Technologies
Solid-state switch mode AC-DC converters having high-frequency transformer isolation are developed in buck, boost, and buck-boost configurations with improved power quality in terms of reduced total harmonic distortion (THD) of input current, power-factor correction (PFC) at AC mains and precisely regulated and isolated DC output voltage feeding to loads from few Watts to several kW. This paper presents a comprehensive study on state of art of power factor corrected single-phase AC-DC converters configurations, control strategies, selection of components and design considerations, performance evaluation, power quality considerations, selection criteria and potential applications, latest trends, and future developments. Simulation results as well as comparative performance are presented and discussed for most of the proposed topologies.
The conventional lighting sources like incandescent and fluorescent lamps are replaced by High Brightness Light Emitting Diodes (HB-LEDs). In this paper, a HBLED driver using a Single Ended Primary Inductor Converter (SEPIC) with input Power Factor Correction (PFC) is presented. PFC is accomplished using a commercial inexpensive Peak Current Mode Controller (PCMC) IC UC3842 is newly combined with SEPIC converter. Extensive simulation results are carried out and a laboratory prototype to power 18W LED array from AC mains is implemented and the results are presented in detail.

Extremely high duty cycle of boost converter may result in higher conduction losses. To achieve a high
conversion ratio without operating at extremely high duty ratio, some converters based on transformers or coupled
inductors or tapped inductors have been provided. However, the leakage inductance in the transformer, coupled
inductor or tapped inductor will cause high voltage spikes in the switches and reduce system efficiency. A novel
single switch cascaded dc-dc converter of boost and buck boost converters have extended voltage conversion ratio
to d/(1-d)2. The features of the converter are high voltage gain; only one switch for realizing the converter, the
number of magnetic components is small etc. So comparing with other topologies cascaded converter is more
effective. Simulation of the converter for a dc input voltage and fixed duty cycle was done, and the same was
verified experimentally for a low input voltage. The software used for simulation was MatlabR2014a
A Low Cost Single-Switch Bridgeless Boost PFC ConverterIJPEDS-IAES
This paper proposes the single-switch bridgeless boost power factor correction (PFC) converter to achieve high efficiency in low cost. The proposed converter utilizes only one active switching device forPFC operation as well as expecting higher efficiency than typical boost PFC converters. On the other hand, the implementation cost is less than traditional bridgeless boost PFC converters, in where two active switching deivces are necessary. The operational principle, the modeling, and the control scheme of the proposed converter arediscussed in detail. In order to verify the operation of the proposed converter, a 500W switching model is built in PSIM software package. The simulation results show that the proposed converter perfectly achieves PFC operation with only a single active switch.

This paper presents the optimization of PFC Cuk converter parameter design for the minimization of THD and voltage ripple. In this study, the PFC Cuk converter is designed to operate in discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) in order to achieve almost unity power factor. The passive components, i.e., inductor and capacitor are designed based on switching frequency and resonant frequency. Nevertheless, the ranges of duty cycle for buck and boost operations are 0<D<0.5 and 0.5<D<1, respectively for the output voltage variation of the converter. The principle of the parameters design optimization is based on the balancing energy compensation between the input capacitor and output inductor for minimization of THD current. In addition, the selection of high output capacitance will minimize the output voltage ripple significantly. A 65 W PFC Cuk converter prototype is developed and experimentally tested to confirm the parameters design optimization principle. The experimental results show that the THD current is reduced to 4.5% from 61.3% and the output voltage ripple is reduced to 7 V from 18 V after parameters optimization are realized. Furthermore, it is confirmed that the output voltage ripple frequency is always double of the input line frequency, 50 Hz and the output voltage ripple is always lower than the maximum input voltage ripple.

Large electric drives and utility applications require advanced power electronics converter to meet
the high power demands. As a result, power converter structure has been introduced as an alternative in high
power and medium voltage situations using Renewable energy sources (RES). This paper describes a new
DC/DC converter with safety, high efficiency and high step up capabilities. This converter is best suited for
Wind/Fuel cell(FC)based Induction Motor applications for pumping systems. The safety feature of this
converter makes it friendly for the farmers to use it for irrigation and agriculture usages. The converter achieves
high step-up voltage gain with appropriate duty ratio and low voltage stress on the power switches. Also, the
energy stored in the leakage inductor of the coupled inductor can be recycled to the output. The maximum
output voltage is determined by the number of the capacitors. The capacitors are charged in parallel and are
discharged in series by the coupled inductor, stacking on the output capacitor. Thus, the proposed converter can
achieve high step-up voltage gain with appropriate duty ratio and interfaced to induction motor through 9-level
inverter and also energy fed to grid system when no load operation. The simulation results are obtained using
MATLAB/SIMULINK software.

Low Current Ripple, High Efficiency Boost Converter with Voltage MultiplierIJMTST Journal
An innovative high voltage-gain boost converter, which is made for home inverters contains the combination
of switched capacitors and coupled inductors made a voltage multiplier, which is used to increase the output
gain of a traditional converter abnormally without using an excessive switching frequency. The setup not only
maximizes the efficiency but also eliminates input current ripple almost, which deduces conduction losses
and current stress of switches causes to greater extension of input source lifetime. In addition, due to the
lossless passive clamp performance, leakage energy is recycled to the output terminal. Hence, large voltage
spikes across the main switches are alleviated, and the efficiency is improved. Even the low voltage stress
makes the low-voltage-rated MOSFETs be embraced for reductions conduction losses and expense.
Ultimately, the prototype circuit with 24-V input voltage, 230-V output, and 1000-W output power is operated
to verify its performance. The greatest effectiveness is 97.1 %.
Implementation of TI-SEPIC Converter for Optimal Utilization Of PV Powerijtsrd
In this project qualitative analysis and controller design of a TI-SEPIC converter for optimal utilization photovoltaic power is presented. This converter is essentially combination of conventional buck and SEPIC converters sharing common components. On the account of the integration load side only one inductor is sufficient enough for performing the power conversion in both Buck and SEPIC converters. Here the function of the lower SEPIC converter is to extract maximum power from the PV and feeds into the load, while the remaining load power demand is supplied by the dc source through a voltage-mode controlled buck converter. A Novel Approach of Position Estimation and Power Factor Corrector Converter ...IJPEDS-IAES
This paper proposes a Power factor Corrected (PFC) Bridgeless Buck-Boost converter fed BLDC motor drive. The Bridgeless configuration eliminates the Diode Bridge Rectifier in order to reduce the number of components and the conduction loss. The position sensors used in BLDC drives have drawbacks of additional cost, mechanical alignment problems. These bottle necks results in sensorless technique. The Sensorless technique mostly relies on measurement of Back EMF to determine relative positions of stator and rotor for the correct coil energising sequence can be implemented. This paper introduces the offline Finite Element method for sensorless operation. The proposed sensorless scheme estimates the motor position at standstill and running condition. The obtained Power Factor is within the acceptable limits IEC 61000-3-2. The proposed drive is simulated in MATLAB/Simulink the obtained results are validated experimentally on a developed prototype of the drive.
Design of an Integrated Power Factor Converter with PI Controller for Low Pow...IOSRJEEE
In this paper, an integrated power factor converter with PI controller is proposed. The circuit topology is obtained by integrating two converters namely the buck converter and a boost converter. The boost converter is normally a step up converter which obtain an unity power factor and performs low harmonics at the input. Based on the simple circuit topology and easy control the boost converter or buck-boost converter is used as power factor correctors. Similarly the buck converter regulates the dc-link voltage and provide a stable dc output voltage. This work deals with the design and implementation of an AC to DC LED driving circuit consisting of a buck
boost converter and a flyback converter. A buck boost converter is integrated with a fly back converter by
sharing a single power switch. A recycling path is also provided to recycle the leakage energy stored in
transformer. An EMI filter and a diode bridge rectifier is also included in this converter topology, EMI filter is
used to eliminate high frequency current harmonics at the input line. Diode bridge rectifier is used to convert
AC source voltage to DC voltage. The control of this single switch is done by using DSPIC 30F2010.This
converter has simple structure, low cost, and ease of control as well. In this way, the developed converter can
provide high PF and low total harmonic distortion.
The detailed circuit operations and analysis are provided. The theoretical studies and analysis are tested by a
prototype of 16-W LED driver with a switching frequency of 60 kHz and also a closed loop simulation is done
in MATLAB simulink. The developed converter has maximum power factor of 0.96 and total harmonic
distortion of 10.54%

In this paper a voltage quadrupler dc-dc converter with coupled inductor
and π filter is presented. The use of the coupled inductor reduces the high
leakage inductance which is present in a transformer enabled converter.
The output ripples in the converter is reduced by providing a π filter.
The interleaved voltage quadrupler is used in this system in order to boost the
output voltage. The voltage multiplier improves the output voltage gain.
The main advantage of this system is more voltage gain when compared with
the transformer eneabled circuit and the overall efficiency of the system is
improved. The circuit is simple to control. As a final point of this research,
the simulation and the hardware investigational results are presented to
demonstrate the effectiveness of this proposed converter.

Abstract: A boost converter is a DC to DC converter with an output voltage greater than the source voltage. But it produces large input current ripple. In order to improve the efficiency of the boost converter and reduce the ripple current, an interleaved boost converter is used. An interleaved boost converter consists of several boost converters connected in parallel with switching frequency and a phase shift of 180˚. A new interleaved high step-up DC-DC converter with the circuit of cumulative voltage unit (CVU) is presented in this work. This converter is suitable for the high gain applications. Only two switches are required to form the boosting path and the interleaved topology. Each CVU module can share common diodes to reduce the number of the components and step up the voltage gain. The interleaved structure in the input end can reduce the power loss in each current-owing component and the input current ripple. The interleaved boost converter with voltage summation unit can be verified by using MATLAB/SIMULINK.

MODELLING OF 200W LED DRIVER CIRCUIT DESIGN WITH LLC CONVERTERJournal For Research
LED is a recent technology, which has replaced all other conventional light sources in the past few years and since it is current controlled, accurate driver design is necessary. The LED driver should have the capability of providing constant current regardless of the LED forward voltage variations. The LLC converter is controlled to operate as a constant current mode LED driver. A 100 kHz, 200W LLC LED driver is designed and calculated to verify the proposed circuit and design method. This paper proposes mathematical model of 200W LED driver circuit design with LLC resonant converter. The proposed circuit uses a full bridge rectifier to convert AC to DC and increases the rectified output voltage using boost converter which is operated in continuous conduction mode and a quasi-half bridge resonant converter to drive the LED lamp load with coupling transformer. The LLC converter is designed such that solid state switches of quasi half bridge are working under zero switching scheme to reduce switching losses. The analysis, design and modelling of 200 W LED driver is carried out by mathematical model and stability analysis for universal AC mains.

This paper addresses the vulnerability of deep learning models, particularly convolutional neural networks
(CNN)s, to adversarial attacks and presents a proactive training technique designed to counter them. We
introduce a novel volumization algorithm, which transforms 2D images into 3D volumetric representations.
When combined with 3D convolution and deep curriculum learning optimization (CLO), itsignificantly improves
the immunity of models against localized universal attacks by up to 40%. We evaluate our proposed approach
using contemporary CNN architectures and the modified Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR-10
and CIFAR-100) and ImageNet Large Scale Visual Recognition Challenge (ILSVRC12) datasets, showcasing
accuracy improvements over previous techniques. The results indicate that the combination of the volumetric
input and curriculum learning holds significant promise for mitigating adversarial attacks without necessitating
adversary training.

Here's a great example: At a large natural gas-fired power plant, where they use waste heat to generate steam and energy, they were puzzled that their boiler wasn't producing as much steam as expected.
R&R and Tetra Engineering Group Inc. were asked to solve the issue with reduced steam production.
An inspection had shown that a significant amount of hot flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes, where the heat was supposed to be transferred.
R&R Consult conducted a CFD analysis, which revealed that 6.3% of the flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes without transferring heat. The analysis also showed that the flue gas was instead being directed along the sides of the boiler and between the modules that were supposed to capture the heat. This was the cause of the reduced performance.
Based on our results, Tetra Engineering installed covering plates to reduce the bypass flow. This improved the boiler's performance and increased electricity production.
