Grant Hosford - Tablets, Tablets Everywhere! But Do They Help Kids Think?SeriousGamesAssoc
Tablet adoption has skyrocketed and there has been a push to create meaningful content for these devices. However, so far the results have been mixed with only few stand out companies creating fun, engaging apps that actually teach something while many, many others create mediocre or even inappropriate content.
So, should we be concerned? Yes, and no. And are more good things coming? Yes!

Reinventing Writing shared at KDCTTL Conference June 2014Vicki Davis
Writing has changed but many classrooms have not changed their instruction. Learn the 9 types of cloud tools that have changed everything about writing including electronic notetaking, electronic notecards, ebooks and epaper, cloud processing, brainstorming tools, infographics and more. Based upon the book by the same name, Reinventing Writing by Vicki Davis - this book is for every teacher teaching writing in the 21st century. It is designed to be practical and approachable for every teacher.
This is a introduction to 4 different types of tool that are accessible via the internet to help educators integrate technology in the classroom. The presentations explores word clouds, answer gardens, embedded audio and visual tools, digital storytelling and info-graphics as well as the use of images with a creative commons license and a way to manipulate pictures. The target grade level presented is mainly K-4, however many of these can be used for older children as well. The target audience to be presented to would be librarians wanting to help collaborate with elementary teachers as well as any elementary teachers that want to collaborate with any Librarian Media Specialist.
These slides will give you practical ideas on how to deploy and use iPads in the classroom. Then second part of this presentation are some of the apps that I love the most!
Reinventing Writing: Create Successful Writing CommunitiesVicki Davis
Writing has been reinvented. Here are some ways it has, by the author of the book, Reinventing Writing, Vicki Davis. Use cloud tools like Google Docs, Office 365, Diigo, Evernote, One Note and other tools with your classroom to write collaboratively. Collaborative Writing is different from other forms of writing. The classroom pedagogy is different.

Simple Steps to Blended Learning #ucet15Vicki Davis
As students move to online spaces, here are some of the simple steps of managing a blended learning classroom that I"ve learned through the #inflip method of teaching that I've been using for more than 2 years. I hope these suggestions for blending, flipping, and presenting online help you take your student online and blend your classroom.

Don't leave your learners sitting like the mailbox by the side of the road. Find ways to record teaching and learning so you and your students can pause, rewind, fast-forward, and share content.
The Road to Redefinition: Overcoming the Impossible by Teaching with iPadsmrlosik
Employing the SAMR model while teaching with iPads and mobile devices will soon have you and your students doing what was previously inconceivable in the classroom
Here is a list of apps that I have used in my classroom and a quick guide to getting those ipads out with all of your students. These have been used by real a real life teacher...ME. If you have any questions tweet me @haselwoodmath
A simple guide to using the iPad in your classroom. This is the first version of this presentation.
Any feedback would be really, really useful.

3. Why I teach:
• My philosophy: Finding ways to
foster higher order thinking skills as
we make school work for all kids in
the most efficient manner possible.
5. Not just a sales pitch
• 5th graders handed the “Prove ‘Em or Lose
‘Em” challenge.
QuickTime™ and a
H.264 decompressor
are needed to see this picture.
6. How has using the iPad changed learning
for you as a 5th grader?
7. How has using the iPad changed learning
for you as a 5th grader?
~ iPads make it easier to understand the subject
we are learning about. We can remember the
things we learn by connecting it to the iPad.
~ iPads are making it easier for pretty much
everyone in the school. iPads make everyone want
to learn.
8. What changes in classmate behavior have
you seen now that you are using the
iPads?
9. What changes in classmate behavior have
you seen now that you are using the
iPads?
~ Kids in my class tend to listen more and try
harder to get their work done so they don’t lose
iPad time.
~ Kids used to mess around a lot because they
lost focus. It is hard to lose focus now.
10. If an iPad was sitting next to one of our
laptops, which would you rather use?
Why?
11. If an iPad was sitting next to one of our
laptops, which would you rather use? Why?
51 out of 52 chose iPads
~ I would use an iPad because you can just touch
it and not have to click a mouse.
~ I would take the iPad. Both can go on the
Internet but can you download awesome
educational apps on a laptop?
12. If an iPad was sitting next to one of our
laptops, which would you rather use? Why?
~ I would rather use an iPad because they help
me focus. There aren’t as many “thingys” to click
on like on the laptops.
~ No question an iPad because it’s a
touchscreen...and you don’t even realize how much
it is helping you do better for tests.
13. Compare using an app like Rocket Math
to a website like Jet Ski Addition.
14. Compare using an app like Rocket Math to
a website like Jet Ski Addition.
~ I would prefer to use an app like Rocket Math
over Jet Ski Addition because it lets us use a
scribble pad which makes it so much easier.
~ Touching the screen to do math is much more
natural than clicking stuff.
15. What if anything would you change about
how your teachers are using the iPads?
16. What if anything would you change about
how your teachers are using the iPads?
~ I would change how much we get to use the
iPads. We should use them all of the time.
~ Use one of those cords to show it on the
projector.
~ I would be really proud.
