Women s Role During The Middle East
Women s Roles in Syria In the past 30 years, women across the world have taken their male
counterparts and their own selves by storm with their increased roles, astonishing capabilities, and call
for equal rights such as closing the wage gap. However, in the Middle East, countries like Syria have
yet to catch up or even come close to these modern times, being decades, maybe even centuries
behind. Up until this decade s everlasting battle in the Middle East, specifically Syria s Civil War
conflict, have some women even had the chance to wander outside their homes. Now roles and
activities have drastically changed. In an academic journal, Zerene Haddad writes in the Forced
Migration Review about the impact the crisis has had on the everyday life of women in the
treacherous Middle East. With the conflict only getting worse by the day, women are now the heads of
households, their country s caretakers, and some are even volunteering themselves to fight their
opposition face to face. Is the Syrian crisis good for these women to get them to notice the world
outside their homes? It definitely gets them exposure. In large part due to the division in Syria and the
counteractive response to the crisis, out of sheer necessity, Syrian women, have become actively
involved, transforming themselves into agents of change , writes Haddad. Writer Zerene Haddad uses
explanatory details and real analysis of the situation to spit meaning into how women s roles and
activities in Syria have

End Stage Renal Disease Case Study
The number of patients with end stage renal disease (ESRD) requiring hemodialysis is constantly
rising worldwide.1 Vascular hemodialysis access is considered the lifeline for patients with end stage
renal disease, and arteriovenous fistula (AVF) has been the golden standard access for hemodialysis.2
In Europe, over 25% of all hospital admissions for ESRD are for the construction or maintenance of a
patent vascular hemodialysis access.3 While the life expectancy of ESRD patients continues to
lengthen and with the limited durability of vascular accesses, repeat fistula construction at different
levels of the upper limb is often necessary and leads ultimately to exhaustion of autogenous vascular
access sites.4 Use of a synthetic prosthesis is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Effect Of The Arab Spring On The Muslim Brotherhood
In this paper, I will be explaining the concept of revolution, its definition, and application in Egypt and
Tunisia. I will further discuss the achievement that took place since the revolutions in both countries
and finally will conclude by demonstrating the effect of the Arab spring on the Muslim brotherhood.
Revolution tend to occur when the basic needs of a population are not met by its government, when
there is a violation of basic human rights, when there is no hope, when people are oppressed, when
people are at some sort of disadvantage.
According to Steven Pincus, in Rethinking Revolution: a New Tocquevillian Perspective, revolution
can be defined as a rapid, judgmental and violent domestic change in the dominant values and myths
of a society, in its political institutions, social structures, leadership, and government activities and
policies . It is a fundamental change in power: a violent movement to overthrow an existing regime
that results in major changes in the society. Revolutions have occurred throughout history, but its
purpose, duration and method have varied from one country to the other.
No one would have ever thought that there would be an uprising in Egypt against autocratic rule, as
rulers of Egypt were smart dictators who knew well enough how to control their people. The regime
itself provided the calendar day for the day of Rage , where all sectors of the society were
participating. It started on January 25th as a medium size demonstration but

Pedro Diary Entry
I promised her happiness, a new life. I could have given her everything. I would have been so much
more than Pedro. I feel as if all my flames are dying out. All the stars are being eaten away from the
inside. My universe grows cold.
It has been two weeks. My fingers feel frozen, my hands are idle. I do not wish to move, for I will
become a devil s plaything. If I begin to walk, I will only try to move towards her. If I began to speak,
I will only try to utter her name. I will do something I should not, and I will regret it deeply. When I
arrived home finally after that night, my Aunt Mary congratulated me yet again on my marriage. I

I haven t seen you in a very long time. Ten years, in fact. It is the fifteenth anniversary of my wife s
passing. Even staring at her grave, I feel nothing. I feel empty. The feeling of tears welling up inside
you, or the feeling of joy pounding at your ribcage trying to escape. I do not feel those things
anymore. It is January. The wind bites at my nose, yet I do not feel the cold. These days, I am the cold
in the breeze. I feel Alex distancing from me. Perhaps he does not want to freeze. He has found love
with Tita s niece, Esperanza. They are so young. I wish my son the utmost happiness. I pray to God
that his love does not end the way mine did. Was I not passionate enough? Was my love not good
enough? I wonder if there is anyone in this world besides my dearest wife who would accept a love
like mine. What was so wrong with it, that it was denied? I want to rip my heart out. I feel so lonely
sometimes. I have tried all the natural remedies of my grandmother and nothing helps. My matches
have not been alight in so long, I feel as if they will never be set aflame again. An old man like me
will not find love this late in his life. I do not think there is any living woman that can breathe a
universe into me the way Tita

Examples Of The Outsiders In The Outsiders
The Outsiders Essay It s hard to be a hero when you do some bad things to get there. In the novel The
Outsiders by S.E. Hinton there are two completely different sides of town. The Socs are the rich kids
who drive expensive cars and wear expensive clothes and the Greasers are considered the bums. They
don t have money and they don t get whatever they want, they also have to work extra hard to get to
where they want to be. If you are considered a greaser you are a muffin and the Socs are the cupcakes.
Everybody would prefer a cupcake over a muffin, but in this story two boys were just trying to protect
themselves and they get into some trouble while doing it so, they hit the road. I am going to tell you
about whether or not Ponyboy and Johnny are heroes. In my opinion Ponyboy and Johnny are heroes
and that is because they both ran into a burning building to save little kids from catching on fire and
dying. People don t just sprint into burning buildings for enjoyment everyday unless it s your job and
even then they don t do it for fun. They do it because they wanted to help save lives. Ponyboy going
first showed that he didn t want to wait for the fireman to come because it was now or never. I ll get
them, don t worry! I started at a dead run for the church, and the man caught my arm. I ll get them.
You kids stay out! I jerked loose and ran on. All I could think was: We started it. We started it. We
started it! ( Hinton pg. 91). Ponyboy felt bad because he knew that the cigarette him and Johnny had
smoked started it. He risked his life to save those children, Johnny too. Johnny went in after Ponyboy.
I looked around, startled. I hadn t realized Johnny had been right behind me all the way. (Hinton pg.
91/92). When Ponyboy was getting his head shoved in a fountain and held there by a Soc, Johnny had
jumped in to save him. Johnny may have killed the Soc, but he did it to protect himself and Ponyboy,
but Johnny is a greaser so he looks guilty to the police either way. I killed him, he said slowly. I killed
that boy. (Hinton pg. 56). I don t know if you would call this heroic, but I think it is. The greasers
stand up for each other so, if you roll with them you better be willing to die

Semiotic Analysis of Television Show Dexter
Semiotic Analysis of Television Show Dexter Semiotics is the study of meaning. There are many
aspects that go into developing a semiotic analysis. They include signs, a signifier and signified,
codes, opposition, code confusion, intertexuality, paradigms, and syntagyms. Before delving into the
analysis, the meaning of each of these terms and their relation to semiotics must be made clear. A sign
could be anything that stands for something else. A signifier is the physical object that represents
something else, while the signified is the image the object relays. Codes are a set of rules that govern
everything. Opposition, or binary opposition, which is used in this analysis, is when two things or
people are used as opposites ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Eventually after a few sessions and some snooping around, Dexter learns that Emmet counseled those
three women and many others into committing suicide. This discovery led Dexter to murder the
psychiatrist. Psychiatrists are often referred to as shrinks . The title Shrink Wrap was a sign and form
of foreshadowing of Dexter s next murder victim. Like all his victims Dexter wrapped Emmet down to
a table, which this time was in Emmet s own office, and covered the room with shrinkwrap which is
used to prevent dust or in this case blood from spattering onto the floor or couches. Then he took a
blood sample to save for his file and proceeded to murder Emmet in the very place he counseled
others into returning home and killing themselves. Codes are another important aspect of this semiotic
analysis. The main set of codes this episode deals with is between good and evil. These codes can also
be viewed at times as paradigms because of the way the codes are setup. The idea of good versus evil
is apparent in the battle Dexter wages against serial killers. Dexter sets out to kill those, such as the
therapist, who are taking advantage of others, or who have actually murdered others as in previous
episodes. This raises the question, might Dexter actually be a good person? Although he may only be
murdering those who deserve it, he is still committing one of the most gruesome crimes possible with
no remorse. Dexter even describes

Post War Mississippi And The Influence On Faulkner s A...
Post War Mississippi and The Influence On Faulkner Faulkner s A Rose for Emily was set, like most
of his stories, in Mississippi. Faulkner lived from the late 19th century till the mid 20th century and
certainly saw the Reconstruction period after the civil war. Could this story s setting be changed to
modern day Savannah or another small town in America and still have the same life that A Rose for
Emily gives to the readers? This story must take place at this time because of the changing from a
broken Nation to a new unified United States. Miss Emily s obsession with traditions of standards of

Everyone in her town knew her as the sadly single woman who would never leave her house. They
often went on to say Poor Emily whenever anything happened to her (Faulkner 82). What I believe to
happen is that she never learned to cope with the death of her father then when she found someone to
replace her father with she never wanted him to leave. To find out some ways that the normal human
copes with the loss of a close family member I looked at the American Psychological Association.
According to the APA the normal human copes by talking the death of a family member out with
family and reaching out to help others (American Psychological Association). I believe that she dealt
with the death of her father by reaching out to fill the void with another being. The obsession that is
spoken about in this story is mainly the obsession of love and the past. Emily has caring family that
passes and then has a man who deserted her (Faulkner 83). She always wanted to feel loved but would
always lose that love. The house she was in represented the love that her father showed. When Homer
Barron tries to leave Miss Emily it is implied that she buys the Arsenic from the druggist to kill him.
When the druggist asks her what it is for and she simply looked back at him, erect with her face like a
strained flag ; it is clear that she was not using it

Western Electric Company in Chicago (Levitt List 2011). The Studies are referred to as the behavior
modifying effects of being the subject of social investigation (Wickstorm Bendix 2000). The leading
man behind the experiments Elton Mayo developed the study to make further inquiry into what factors
affect productivity in the workplace. Ever since the studies were conducted between 1927 and 1933

used to make a fundamental change in the development of management in society. This essay will

Stage one of the experiment aimed at examining the effect of changes in working arrangements upon
productivity (Gale 2004). During this stage five girls were transferred from the factory floor to a
special test room where their output of relays was recorded for over two years, during which a large
number of alterations were made to their working conditions (Carey 1967). One of the changes made
was to the illumination values in the factory environment. When the light was cut down to .06 of a
foot candle the girls maintained their efficiency (Carey 1967). They found that only extremely low
illumination caused decreases in levels of production (Broches 2008). According to Carey (1967) the
conclusion came as a great Ă©claircissement as the founding s were quite different from what they had
expected. The results identified the importance of social satisfactions at work and researches were
puzzled to observe that productivity continued to rise regardless of the changes made to the physical
working environment. At the end of the two years the results found that the girls output had increased
by about 30 percent (Carey 1967) and physicians indicated improved workers health and a decrease in
absenteeism (Broches 2008). Due to the steady increase in output the investigators took into

The Difference Between Arial And Helvetica
The drive to the core of absence is also evident in the realm of type design. In 1932, Beatrice Warde,
an American typographic expert, published an essay The Crystal Goblet , or known as Printing Should
Be Invisible , insists on an invisible or transparent typography in order to elevate the printed words. In
her essay, Warde adopted a metaphor that the design for typefaces should be as transparent as crystal
glass for wine (Warde, 1936, p.6). A typeface, as a container, is calculated to reveal and not to hide the
beautiful content which it is meant to contain. The design of the container should not call undue notice
to itself. Her theory of invisible typefaces is in line with Modernist simplicity as well as functionality,

They both are sans serif typefaces that are universally embraced by different applications. At first
glance, they seem extremely similar. But if designers examine the characters in each typeface closely,
the differences between them become apparent. Mark Simonson, an American graphic designer,
produced an analysis of these two typefaces, showing how much more refined Helvetica than that of
Arial (Simonson, 2001). The primary difference between the two is the treatments of their endings.
While Helvetica is vertically cut, Arial is slightly angled. For instance, the tail of the a is gently curved
in Helvetica, as is the first connection of the bowl to the stem, but not in Arial. Similarly, the top of the
t and the ends of the strokes in the C and S are perfectly horizontal in the former, but slightly angled in
the latter. Even though the distinguishing details are so tiny that cannot be noticed unless they are
scrutinized as Simonson has done. Yet it is these subtleties that constitute Helvetica a finer example of
design than Arial, especially for professionals. Functionally the two types are roughly equal, both are
admirably clear, but aesthetically Helvetica is

Comparing Islam and Christianity Essay
Comparing Islam and Christianity
Although they share several basic theological ideas, Christianity and Islam differ on countless key
characteristics. The most prominent differences include atonement, the identity of God, heaven, view
of Jesus, and the perception of the Christian Bible. It is these not so subtle contrasts of thoughts that
separate the two most prevalent religions in the world.
One of the most important differences in Christianity and Islam is the concept of atonement. In
Christianity, Jesus death on the cross allows Christians to repent from their sins and gain forgiveness
from God. Conversely, in Islam there is no atonement from sins with Allah, though they still repent
and confess their sins. While Christians ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While they share the basic concept of heaven as a final resting place for those who have done their
God s will during their time on Earth, the descriptions of heaven vary significantly. Christians believe
that heaven is the dwelling place of God, and fellowship with Him provides the unimaginable
happiness associated with heaven. Muslims hold a more worldly belief of heaven; a state of perpetual
bliss, rewarding Muslims who have lived righteous lives. This blissful heaven fulfils its occupants
earthly desires, including rewards such as dozens of virgins awaiting martyrs of Islam. The key
difference between these two views of heaven is the nature of their rewards; while Islam provides
earthly gifts to deserving Muslims, the Christian heaven provides spiritual satisfaction to those
Christians who have maintained the faith.
Yet another very important difference between Christianity and Islam is their views of the Christian
Bible. The Bible serves as the guide to Christianity, offering aid and advice for daily living as well as
describing the acts and life of Jesus. Muslim views of the Bible offer a stark contrast to those of
Christianity. The Muslims respect and follow the teachings of the prophets, but agree with the Bible
only as far as it

Facing Contradictions Analysis
Facing Contradictions and inconsistences: Every day we are faced with many contradictions and
inconsistences. Some of them are our own and others we encounter them from others. Our daily
interactions can be full of contradictions and inconsistences for instance, when you are mad at
someone and they make you laugh. Perhaps life itself can be inconsistence, one day there are good
news the other you are conveyed with bad news. Contradictions: Is the act of saying something is
opposite or very different in meaning to something else. Example: When you say you are trustworthy
and an honest person but in reality you are the opposite. Inconsistences: The act of being irregular.

this segment the book explains almost exclusively how the social forces and the mass media impacted
our life in many forms. In other words, they influenced their life by given us what we should do and
what should not we do. Those are the examples of how social media impacted our life dramatically:
Tell us what to do and what not to do Tell us what are problems are They affect the meanings we give
to events close to us The shape our worldview They tell us who is a friend and who is the enemy
Implications for the design of your life: Controlling our own thoughts and actions will enable us to
shape the best design of our life. We must resist any external force that aiming to change or control
our personalities. In additional to that, in order to achieve the best of us we should start to think out of

Sophie Germain s Contribution To The Middle Age Of Paris
Sophie Germain was born April 1st, 1776 in Paris, France. Sophie s family was rich and counted as
upper Classmen. Sophie was the middle child out of 2 others, Marie Madeline Germain and Angelique
Ambroise Germain. She was brought into the world around times when it was frowned upon for
women to be educated, not to mention that it was also a revolution year too. Sophie spent most of her
time in the house reading in her Father s collection of books. Their eldest and youngest daughters,
Marie Madeleine and Angelique Ambroise, were destined for marriage with professional men.
However, when the fall of the Bastille in 1789 drove the Germains sensitive middle daughter into
hiding in the family library, Marie Sophie s life path diverged from them all. From the ages of 13 to 18
Sophie, as she was called to minimize confusion with the other Maries in her immediate family,
absorbed herself in the study of pure mathematics. One day she came across a book about a deceased
Mathematician by the name of Archimedes. Sophie was so engaged by his work that she looked more
into it as it interested her a lot. Sophie died on June 27th, 1831 in birthplace of Paris, France. She

The Necklace, Mr. Maupassant
In The Necklace Mr. Maupassant tells a story of a woman, Mrs. Loisel, who goes through many
emotions over the loss of a necklace that ends up being a fake. As she goes through these situations
Mr. Maupassant gives examples of literally elements that prove what kind of person she turns out to
be. Throughout the story Mrs. Loisel is conflicted with many problems just to realize who she became
and how she took advantage of what she already had in her life. When it turns out to be too late she
then blames her friend for letting her borrow the necklace instead of taking the responsibility of her
selfish life.
During the eighteenth century all aspects of western culture was influenced to take over the role of
women in society at the time. Women were lead to believe that men were supposed to be the primary
householders whom can do anything leaving them dependent to men. Women at the time also had to
deal with the struggles of living in social class lifestyles that dreamt of having nothing but luxuries
and higher values. Guy De Maupassant s The Necklace portrays this very situation through the
character of Mrs. Loisel with the different use of literary devices. She is stuck between wanting to live
the lifestyle and learning to live her own without certain delicacies.
A point to consider is the use of foreshadowing in Maupassant s The Necklace and how it gives away
further events in the story. With foreshadowing, the reader is given clues at the beginning of the story

J. R. R. Tolkien s Influence On The Hobbit
The Hobbit, written by J.R.R. Tolkien, is a children s fantasy novel (though the series The Lord of the
Rings that followed its story was more tuned to adults) that was first published in 1937. When it was
first released, it received critical acclaim from millions of readers, and it was eventually nominated for
the Carnegie Medal and won Best Juvenile Fiction from the New York Herald Tribune. However,
despite its success, the most enduring trait of the novel is its connection with readers throughout
generations that has inspired countless authors and readers. Most people know the story of The

William Morris, who was a 19th century English poet, translator, and creative genius, was a
significant figure to Tolkien. In fact, Tolkien desired to write more in Morris romantic style. In
particular, a chapter named The Desolation of Smaug was directly influenced by Morris style and
ideas (The Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien). Another writer that left an impression on Tolkien was Samuel
Rutherford Crockett. His historical novel The Black Douglas and its villain Gilles de Retz inspired
The Hobbit s evil character Sauron. It is said the narrative style and even the events in both The
Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings were influenced by The Black Douglas (Lobdell, Jared C.). The
goblins within The Hobbit are closely associated with the goblins in the novel The Princess and the
Goblin by George MacDonald. In addition, MacDonald impressed upon Tolkien the role of fantasy in
the context of Christianity (J. R. R. Tolkien Encyclopedia: Scholarship and Critical Assessment).
Another key influence on The Hobbit is Tolkien s adoration of Norse mythology and Germanic
philology. Not only are many myths from Norse mythology adapted into The Hobbit, the names of the
characters have a distinct Old Norse feel to them (Rateliff, John D.). And speaking of characters, the
dwarves were modeled after ancient Jewish people and their history (Rateliff, John D.). Last but not
least, the epic Beowulf was the main inspiration behind the world Tolkien wanted to create. As
Tolkien was a respected scholar of Beowulf, The Hobbit was in part a tribute to the epic and a
reworking of it (Purtill, Richard

Descriptive Essay On My Home House
Fun, Love, Comfort in the Home with the Green Door
In a small town called Whigham located in the southwest part of Georgia is a home numbered 201 in
the middle of Harrell Avenue Northwest. The home is shaded by a mighty oak tree, its exterior is
white in color with a forest green metal door and window trim painted forest green to match the door.
On the outside this house is full of plant life, two domestic dogs that guard the home from morning to
night, and wild animals living off the provisions of the land. The inside of the house is full of geckos,
family, and love. This is the house I was raised in since my mother and father brought me home from
Grady General Hospital in the month of January in 1991. This home will forever be my safety and my
delight.
This small family home has four bedrooms, two bathrooms, one laundry room, a pantry with a dog
kennel built on the side, a kitchen, and a coat closet in the foyer. The entire house was located on one
level except two of the bedrooms which is located down the stairs on the front of the house; the
bedroom to the left down the stairs was my room. My room walls were painted baby blue in color
with a bright orange glass sun located over my headboard that was shaped like skyscrapers in New
York City. The carpet that was in my room was as soft as clouds and was milk chocolate brown in
color. The bonus to my bedroom was the walk in closet that held my black wood bookshelf, twelve

Linguistic Genius Of Babies Book Review
Patricia Kuhl s TED Talk lecture, The Linguistic Genius of Babies, is an overview of how infants as
young as six months old are capable of discriminating between the units of all languages equally, but
at ten months, infants tend to become better at distinguishing between units of their native language
and worse at those of a foreign language. This shows that there is a critical period not just for language
acquisition but also for the ability to acquire a second language. Therefore, parents who with for their
children to have a bilingual advantage should expose infants to a second language as soon as possible.
Noam Chomsky believed that humans are genetically designed with the capacity to learn language.
Humans have a system of common rules and properties, called universal grammar, which allows us to
learn any world language. It appears that Kuhl s research supports this theory. Kuhl exposed American
infants, who had only been previously exposed to English, to Mandarin during the critical period for
language acquisition. Babies exposed to both English and Mandarin showed equivalent statistics for
language discrimination. This exposure alters the Language Acquisitions Device (LAD) in the brain
and makes infants the citizens of the world, (Kuhl, 2010) Chomsky believed them to be, rather than
the culture bound listeners, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While humans are biologically designed to produce language, with exception of reasons of defect,
there is still a time limit during which infants must be exposed to language or risk developmental
delays. These delays are not just in the area of language acquisitions, but are related to other cognitive
functions as well, as we saw in the example of Justin, the boy who was raised as a dog by his
caregiver. Language acquisition is essential in the development of the ability to problem solve and to
process and understand symbolic

Hooke Unnatural Conjugation
When studying putrifying substances , Hooke finds that with strange and unnatural copulations,
several new kinds of Animals are produc d (Hooke 99). What Hooke is discussing in this passage is
what he later refers to as accidental production (Hooke 106), his belief the production of moss, mould,
and mushrooms occurs without any concurrent seminal principle (Hooke 106). Despite the specifics of
Hooke s formulation, his belief in the productive power of strange and unnatural copulations (Hooke
99) resonates with Deleuze and Guattari s unnatural participations , and Latour s hybrids. Much like
Hooke s microscopic representations, for Deleuze and Guattari such conjugation involves terms that
are entirely heterogeneous: for example, a human being, an animal, and a bacterium, a virus, a
molecule, a microorganism (Deleuze and Guattari 242). Recent critical theory marks these couplings
as its declared area of study, but for Hooke it exists as an unintended network of analogy that inheres
to microscopic representation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Gilgamesh Flood Vs Biblical Flood
Global floods have been a shared part of human culture and religion for thousands of years. A majority
of the global flood stories share the same basic framework which consists of a hero, a means of
salvation, and a blessing. The two most popular flood accounts are the Biblical flood of Noah and the
Babylonian Epic of Gilgamesh. . These two ancient flood accounts share various topics and ideas
throughout both storylines such as the reason for the flood, a warning that the flood will happen, the
use of birds, blessings from a god, and an offering given. However, neither Christian scholars nor
secular scholars can determine if the Biblical flood or the Epic of Gilgamesh share a common link.

Invention of the Automobile Essay
Invention of the Automobile
In the beginning, man s only form of transportation was his own feet. Later, to comfort his journey on
foot, was the invention of footwear. Through envy of the speed of other animals he would learn to
tame these animals. People who live in the desert ride atop camels. The people who live in the frigid
climates travel by dogs. Some people from places like India ride elephants. But the must widely used
form of transportation by animal power was by horse. Man would soon develop boats and ships to
travel long distances over water and time would flow like the rivers and hundreds of years later, in the
late 1700s steam power became the new craze. Steam power got the wheels turning amongst many

Interesting to note is that the only invention he made was a two cycle internal combustion engine. The
automobile today has items that are critical to have. If a major car company were to produce a car
powered only by Lenoir s engine it would never sell because of the essentials.
THE ESSENTIALS The essentials are the necessary parts for an automobile to be an automobile in
today s world. If someone were to build an automobile like that of Lenoir s today it would be nothing
more than a go kart. No one would call it an automobile. Automobiles need certain things other than
just an engine and a horse carriage to be considered an automobile today for two reasons. One reason
is so someone will actually buy it and another is because it s the item is required by law. In 1861 a
German engineer named Nikolaus August Otto built his first gasoline powered engine. Three years
later he would team up with Eugen Langen to form the Deutz Gas Engine Factory. Otto s engine was
based on the same principles of Lenoir s. It was also a two stroke engine with one cylinder but it used
the different type of fuel, gasoline rather than coal gas. Otto and Langen learned of a way to gain more
efficiency by compressing the gas before combustion in 1867. This led them to production of the first
four stroke

What Is The Distortion In Naook Of The Penguins
Reality distortion in Nanook of the North and March of the Penguins
The documentary Nanook of the north portrays itself as an actual depiction of the life and culture of
the Inuit people through the eyes of the great hunter Nanook and his family; it is a silent film with
cartoony music in time with the actions depicted, this musical affect reminds me of the music played
in Disney s Marry Melodies and it works to give an air of livelihood and inconsequentiality that would
probably not exist in actuality. This form of musical choice was very deliberate and it was later
realized the almost the entirety of the film was fabricated and Nanook wasn t really what he seemed at
all. Nanook of the north distorts the reality of the Inuit world relying completely on western ideals and
values, both undermining the truth of the culture shown as well as trying to make it identifiable for its

Abstract Automatic recognition of people is a challenging problem which has received much attention
during recent years due to its many applications in different fields. Face recognition is one of those
challenging problems and up to date, there is no technique that provides a robust solution to all
situations. This paper presents a technique for human face recognition. A self organizing program is
used to identify if the subject in the input image is present or not present in the image database. Face
recognition with Eigen values is carried out by classifying Eigen values in both images. The main
advantage of this technique is its high speed processing capability and low computational
requirements, in terms of both speed, accuracy and memory utilization. The goal is to implement the
system for a particular face and distinguish it

The Benefits Of Sleeping On A Problem Essay
The Benefits of Sleeping on a Problem Introduction If you re like most people, you have probably
been told, when you re struggling with a problem or decision, that it s a good idea to sleep on it. It s
something that people say so frequently that it has become something of a cliché. Like most clichés,
though, it turns out that there s some truth to it. In 1865, a German chemist named Friedrich August
Kekule von Stradonitz solved a problem that had been puzzling scientists for decades. He published a
paper identifying the structure of benzene as a ring of carbon atoms. Years later, when he was giving a
talk about how he made his breakthrough discovery, he credited it to a dream he d had. In the dream,
he saw an image of a serpent swallowing its own tail, something that is called ouroboros. The symbol
dates back to early Indian, Egyptian and Greek mythology. The sight of the symbol revealed the ring
like structure of benzene to him. Von Stradonitz is not alone. History is littered with similar examples.
Human beings sometimes wake up with the solution to a complex problem, something they have been
wrestling with, clear in their heads. Why does this happen? Is there scientific merit to the idea of
sleeping on a problem? In this article, we will explore the notion that sleeping on a problem can help
us solve it. It s a somewhat complex topic, but one worth investigating. The first key to understanding
what happens in our brains while we sleep is to talk about why we need

The Chimney Sweeper by William Blake Essay
In the Chimney Sweeper, William Blake portrays the lack of innocence in these young boys lives
since they are expected to have attained the experience to preform such unjust actions. The speaker of
the poem begins it by letting us know that after his mother passed away his father gave him up to be a
chimneysweeper so he could obtain money. These two figures, his mother and father are whom kids
are supposed to depend on and look up for guidance. He feels abandoned because his mother is gone
and his father gave him up for money, this show just how poor his family was and how his father
would do anything for a chance at a better living, whether it included his son or not. The speaker also

The dream continues on by say that an angel came by and set them free, which means that all of the
chimneysweepers were free from work and they did not have to put up with the terrible conditions of
the job anymore. The other part of Toms dream included that boys going to wash in the river and shine
in the sun meaning they could free them from the soot and actually see their clean skin not covered in
black. This gave Tom a sense of what freedom would actually feel like and what life could be when he
is done working as a chimneysweeper. Them being naked and white represent the cleanliness from the
soot and symbolize their youth and purity so they can act now act and preform just how kids should.
Also in line seventeen it mentions their bags being left behind, their bags represent their memories of
chimney sweeping and how after they are free they are supposed to leave the bad memories in the
past. Next it gradually mentions that they rise upon clouds and sport in the wind this symbolizes their
second chance at life now that they are free to make their own decisions, it is as if they are given a
second chance to be who they want to. After this Toms dream continues with the angel telling Tom
that if he d be a good boy, He d have God for his father never want joy this is dramatic irony because
Tom never got the chance to prove that he was a good boy

Christian Munch, his father, also taught his son in history and literature, and entertained his children
with ghost stories and books by Edgar Allan Poe, an American writer. Edvard remembered that
although his father was usually positive, this was sometimes overshadowed by his madness . Munch
once stated, My father was temperamentally nervous and obsessively religious to the point of
psychoneurosis. From him I inherited the seeds of madness. The angels of fear, sorrow, and death
stood by my side since the day I was born. Christian also punished his children by saying that their
mother was watching them from heaven and was saddened by anything they did incorrectly. These
thoughts, Edvard s poor health, and the ghost stories he was told brought many nightmares; he felt as
if death was always close to him. One of Munch s younger sisters, Laura, was diagnosed with a mental

The Health Care Industry Of Colorado
I would like to bring an important matter to your attention that is not only affecting the health of the
citizens of Colorado, but is incurring significant cost to the local government and risk to the health
care industry in this state. The health care industry in Colorado is experiencing challenging issues with
sharing vital health care information between affiliated and unaffiliated medical practice providers.
Hokenstrom indicates that as patients tend to move between specialty providers it is not uncommon
that their health information can become lost in transit or forgotten originating facility. This inability
to share information frequently results in duplication of efforts and cost to the patient. Not only does
this impede efficient and timely care, but carries a high degree of risk to the patient. In sum, there are
solutions to help resolve these issues. Dr. Mendelson, Dr. Bak, Dr. Menschik, and Dr. Siegel have
expressed in their research on Imaging Informatics that barriers to internet transfer of information
remain a constant concern, however, surmounting these concerns is not unattainable. The University
of Chicago issued a study of five states who worked together to extend their Health Information

Montana, and Oregon. There were several common challenges identified to include: 1) limited

terms of women in the workforce. She explains in her article Why Women Can t Have It All , the
difficulty of keeping a high profile job while taking care of her family. Her experiences is very
common among women all over the spectrum of the workforce. As a feminist her article has touched a
very sensitive issue. Many people sees the article as a slap in the face or a step backwards in the fight

necessarily talking about inequality in the workforce rather the guilt that women feel when they are

Sigmund Freud Interpretation Of Dreams Research Paper
Every individual dreams; however, some people are affected more than others. Dreams are sequences
of images, ideas, emotions, and sensations that occur involuntarily in the mind during certain stages of
sleep. Most occurring during rapid eye movement or REM when brain activity is high and resembles
being awake. Many believe that dreams are a connection to an individual s subconscious. Sigmund
Freud, a scientist in the early 1900s performed extensive studies on dreams, including their

Total sleep deprivation longer than forty hours proves impossible; however, due to brief periods of
micro sleep, it is possible to function properly longer ( Sleep ). Micro sleep represents the body s
obvious need for sleep. Even though it only lasts for a couple of seconds, it can have some restorative
function to the body, but individuals cannot survive on this; they need a full night s rest ( Sleep ).
Losing more than one night s sleep produces a noticeable increase in irritability, lethargy, disinterest,
and even paranoia. An individual s psychomotor performance and concentration are also affected and
eventually immunological functions suffer. Newborns sleep as many as seventeen hours a day,
whereas five year olds average about twelve hours a night ( Sleep and Sleep Disorders ). For some
reason, many people experience the best and most satisfying sleep of their lives during the middle teen
years ( Sleep and Sleep

Charles Lindbergh s Historical Kidnapping
One of the most monumental federal cases in the 20th Century was the Lindbergh Kidnapping. Due to
this historical kidnapping, US Congress created and passed the Federal Kidnapping Act, which
became known as the Lindbergh Law. On May 20th (and 21st), 1927 an American aviator challenged
himself to daringly cross the Atlantic Ocean in one single flight. The aviator, Charles Lindbergh, flew
from Roosevelt Field in New York City to Le Bourget Field in Paris. The flight, estimated to be 3,600
miles, took thirty three and a half hours. Lindbergh succeeded and became the very first man to fly
nonstop across the Atlantic Ocean. Charles Lindbergh and his plane, the Spirit of St. Louis, went
down in US history. However, only five years later, a catastrophic ... Show more content on

Bureau of Investigation had, until the discovery of the body, been acting in a purely advisory capacity.
On May 13, however, President Herbert Hoover authorized the bureau to serve as the primary federal
agency on the case, and the full resources of the U.S. Department of Justice were committed to the
investigation of the crime, (www.britannica.com). This proceeded to the establishment of the Federal
Kidnapping Act, passed by the U.S. Congress on June 22, 1932. Interestingly enough, that very day
would have been Charles Lindbergh Jr. s second birthday. The Federal Kidnapping Act, also known as
the Lindbergh law, made the act of kidnapping at federal crime. The U.S. Congress required, from
then on, all kidnappers to be punished by

In Praise Of Folly, Martin Luther, The Ninety-Five Theses
The sections of history mentioned within this essay discuss very important events of religious history.
Within each section a person or group of people are rebelling against the religious norm of their time.
Erasmus, In Praise of Folly, Martin Luther, The Ninety five Theses, The Twelve Articles of the
Peasants of Swabia, and The English Act of Supremacy, 1534 are all writings that exemplify this
aspect. Within the time of the northern European Renaissance Erasmus of Rotterdam is considered the
greatest scholar and humanist of its time. Erasmus strongly believed that the church was abusing its
power and disagreed with the long term beliefs and practices of the church and its followers. He
believed that the church s Bible was not accurate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The sixth article asks for gracious consideration to see if their plentiful duties could be managed to be
not as excessive so they will no longer have to be oppressed. Then seventh article demands that the
peasant will get paid for their services, but will help the noble at proper and necessary times. The
eighth article asks for the lords to have persons to look into a way they can fix rent in accordance with
justice for the peasants. In the ninth article the peasants ask to cease of the constant new laws and
want to be judged on the old laws. The tenth article asks for the meadows and fields that are owned by
individuals be arranged so that the community can use them. The Eleventh article the peasants demand
that they will no longer endure orphans and widows to be robbed of God s will. The twelfth article is
their conclusion and it basically says that if any of the article are prove not to be of God s will or
unjust they will adjust them to do so. Martin Luther disapprovingly responds to the peasant articles.
He believed that they committed threefold horrible sins against God. The first being that the peasants
have sworn to be obedient to their rulers and because they have deliberately not obeyed their rulers
they will be sentence by God. The second sin that Luther believes the peasants committed was
violently robbing the monasteries and castles that they do not

Nasa Astronaut Research Paper
I was a curious boy. I was born and raised in Nashville TN alongside my older sister. Ever since I was
seven, I ve strived to be an astronaut and explore the expansions of space. After World War III, the
United States rebooted their space program, with the funding and resources at an all time high. On the
eve of my ninth birthday, I, along with the rest of the world, received the news that One of Jupiter s
moons was reached and prepared for colonization, marking the second space body fit to be home to
humans after Mars. Graduating high school with a perfect record, I set my sights on the Massachusetts

I battle criminals of all degrees and the evilness inside some of humanity. Internally, the eight fellow

Essay on Egypt after Mubarak
Egyptians in a solidarity move demonstrated for 18 consecutive days of protest until the former
president Hosni Mubarak was forced to resign and the military took over the government suspending
the constitution. At the moment, the military can either run the transitional government for a period of
a year or less or run the country by committee. On taking over the power, the military promised to
deliver a new constitution and organize a free and fair election.
Under the imperative of Hosni Mubarak, Egyptians have been complaining about the inequality and
nepotism and with his exit, the Egyptians hopes the issues will be addressed and there will be an equal
wealth distribution all over Egypt. The main opposition leaders, the Muslim ... Show more content on

Since the opposition has not addressed the issue of reforming the laws to lift the segregation based on
sex, it would be wise for them to act positively for legitimacy rule. In the United States, women
participated effectively in the World War II thus earning themselves the right to vote.
Those hoping for a change in Egypt at the exit of Hosni Mubarak are homeless children who have
been estimated to be about 50, 000 in the Cairo streets alone. During the protest, at least one street
child died in the chaotic moments by a gun shot. Another female street child was denied treatment at
the first hospital her friends took her after she was shot but was treated at the second one when they
saw she was in a critical condition. Save the Children organization have lamented at the difficulty in
helping the street children when they do not own any identification documents. The discriminatory
treatment towards the street children is not practiced by the government but even the hospitals thus for
a change to be evident, the whole population should change the attitude towards the homeless and less
privileged members of the society. The new regime is expected to tackle the issue of the street
children, offer them identification papers but most importantly health care and education is
paramount. Street children used to be arrested for lack of

The Relevence of Carbon-14
A human skeleton is discovered at a new construction site outside a small town in Nebraska. The
remains could be from someone who died within the past 100 years or the past 1000 years or even
longer. An archeologist from a local university is called in to examine the remains. He finds evidence
that the skeleton may indeed be very old. To determine its age, he uses radiometric dating.
Radiometric dating is based on analyzing the amount of carbon 14 in an ancient example of once
living substantial, related to what is found in a current sample of active material. The important
material on which it is established is that carbon 14 has always been constructed at the same level in
the greater atmosphere for all history.
An element is radioactive if its atomic nuclei are unstable. The nucleus holds neutrons and protons;
the electromagnetic force separates the protons because they have an equivalent charge, but the strong
nuclear force pulls the protons and neutrons closer together. A nucleus is only unchanging if it has an
even balance of protons and neutrons, or also doesn t have any extra energy. Radiocarbon dating only
works on things that were once alive and are now dead.
The level of carbon 14 in an artifact reduces by 50% every 5730 years from the moment that the raw
material from which the artifact is made no longer is exchanging carbon with he atmosphere, in most
cases this is the point of death of the animal or plant.
Carbon 14 is produced naturally in the upper

Alexander II And The Russian Revolution
In the 1800 s Russia was facing a very difficult time. Russia s recent defeat in the Crimean war was a
wake up call to the autocracy. This defeat proved to the autocracy that Russia had fallen dangerously
behind their western neighbors, ultimately making it easy for other countries to attach and invade. At
that point, Russia knew it was time for a change and it started with Tsar Alexander II. Alexander II
took over as emperor due to his fathers (Nicholas I) death in St. Petersburg. Some say the reason for
Russia s backward spiral was because of him. However, in 1855 the reign of Alexander II in Russia
began and during his time he directed a period of political and social reforms. Some of the reforms
Alexander II thought had to be changed included: education, military, government, and judicial. Even
after trying to make multiple changes and reforms to better the government, someone was still not
clicking in the Russian government. The main reason the society had so many problems dealt with the
peasants. As many soviet historians have claimed, these reforms were put in place to pacify the
peasantry in order to ward off revolution. During this time the peasants had to work on their lord
owners land and didn t have many other options. While under the new Tsar Alexander II the
government ran into a dry wall and needed a way out. Alexander II did something that to this day goes
down as two perspectives. The first one can be seen as a charter of freedom

  • 2. Women s Role During The Middle East Women s Roles in Syria In the past 30 years, women across the world have taken their male counterparts and their own selves by storm with their increased roles, astonishing capabilities, and call for equal rights such as closing the wage gap. However, in the Middle East, countries like Syria have yet to catch up or even come close to these modern times, being decades, maybe even centuries behind. Up until this decade s everlasting battle in the Middle East, specifically Syria s Civil War conflict, have some women even had the chance to wander outside their homes. Now roles and activities have drastically changed. In an academic journal, Zerene Haddad writes in the Forced Migration Review about the impact the crisis has had on the everyday life of women in the treacherous Middle East. With the conflict only getting worse by the day, women are now the heads of households, their country s caretakers, and some are even volunteering themselves to fight their opposition face to face. Is the Syrian crisis good for these women to get them to notice the world outside their homes? It definitely gets them exposure. In large part due to the division in Syria and the counteractive response to the crisis, out of sheer necessity, Syrian women, have become actively involved, transforming themselves into agents of change , writes Haddad. Writer Zerene Haddad uses explanatory details and real analysis of the situation to spit meaning into how women s roles and activities in Syria have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. The Effect Of The Arab Spring On The Muslim Brotherhood In this paper, I will be explaining the concept of revolution, its definition, and application in Egypt and Tunisia. I will further discuss the achievement that took place since the revolutions in both countries and finally will conclude by demonstrating the effect of the Arab spring on the Muslim brotherhood. Revolution tend to occur when the basic needs of a population are not met by its government, when there is a violation of basic human rights, when there is no hope, when people are oppressed, when people are at some sort of disadvantage. According to Steven Pincus, in Rethinking Revolution: a New Tocquevillian Perspective, revolution can be defined as a rapid, judgmental and violent domestic change in the dominant values and myths of a society, in its political institutions, social structures, leadership, and government activities and policies . It is a fundamental change in power: a violent movement to overthrow an existing regime that results in major changes in the society. Revolutions have occurred throughout history, but its purpose, duration and method have varied from one country to the other. No one would have ever thought that there would be an uprising in Egypt against autocratic rule, as rulers of Egypt were smart dictators who knew well enough how to control their people. The regime itself provided the calendar day for the day of Rage , where all sectors of the society were participating. It started on January 25th as a medium size demonstration but ... All the stars are being eaten away from the inside. My universe grows cold. It has been two weeks. My fingers feel frozen, my hands are idle. I do not wish to move, for I will become a devil s plaything. If I begin to walk, I will only try to move towards her. If I began to speak, I will only try to utter her name. I will do something I should not, and I will regret it deeply. When I arrived home finally after that night, my Aunt Mary congratulated me yet again on my marriage. • 6. Examples Of The Outsiders In The Outsiders The Outsiders Essay It s hard to be a hero when you do some bad things to get there. In the novel The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton there are two completely different sides of town. The Socs are the rich kids who drive expensive cars and wear expensive clothes and the Greasers are considered the bums. They don t have money and they don t get whatever they want, they also have to work extra hard to get to where they want to be. If you are considered a greaser you are a muffin and the Socs are the cupcakes. Everybody would prefer a cupcake over a muffin, but in this story two boys were just trying to protect themselves and they get into some trouble while doing it so, they hit the road. I am going to tell you about whether or not Ponyboy and Johnny are heroes. In my opinion Ponyboy and Johnny are heroes and that is because they both ran into a burning building to save little kids from catching on fire and dying. People don t just sprint into burning buildings for enjoyment everyday unless it s your job and even then they don t do it for fun. They do it because they wanted to help save lives. Ponyboy going first showed that he didn t want to wait for the fireman to come because it was now or never. I ll get them, don t worry! I started at a dead run for the church, and the man caught my arm. I ll get them. You kids stay out! I jerked loose and ran on. All I could think was: We started it. We started it. We started it! ( Hinton pg. 91). Ponyboy felt bad because he knew that the cigarette him and Johnny had smoked started it. He risked his life to save those children, Johnny too. Johnny went in after Ponyboy. I looked around, startled. I hadn t realized Johnny had been right behind me all the way. (Hinton pg. 91/92). When Ponyboy was getting his head shoved in a fountain and held there by a Soc, Johnny had jumped in to save him. Johnny may have killed the Soc, but he did it to protect himself and Ponyboy, but Johnny is a greaser so he looks guilty to the police either way. I killed him, he said slowly. I killed that boy. (Hinton pg. 56). I don t know if you would call this heroic, but I think it is. The greasers stand up for each other so, if you roll with them you better be willing to die ... • 7. Semiotic Analysis of Television Show Dexter Semiotic Analysis of Television Show Dexter Semiotics is the study of meaning. There are many aspects that go into developing a semiotic analysis. They include signs, a signifier and signified, codes, opposition, code confusion, intertexuality, paradigms, and syntagyms. Before delving into the analysis, the meaning of each of these terms and their relation to semiotics must be made clear. A sign could be anything that stands for something else. A signifier is the physical object that represents something else, while the signified is the image the object relays. Codes are a set of rules that govern everything. Opposition, or binary opposition, which is used in this analysis, is when two things or people are used as opposites ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Eventually after a few sessions and some snooping around, Dexter learns that Emmet counseled those three women and many others into committing suicide. This discovery led Dexter to murder the psychiatrist. Psychiatrists are often referred to as shrinks . The title Shrink Wrap was a sign and form of foreshadowing of Dexter s next murder victim. Like all his victims Dexter wrapped Emmet down to a table, which this time was in Emmet s own office, and covered the room with shrinkwrap which is used to prevent dust or in this case blood from spattering onto the floor or couches. Then he took a blood sample to save for his file and proceeded to murder Emmet in the very place he counseled others into returning home and killing themselves. Codes are another important aspect of this semiotic analysis. The main set of codes this episode deals with is between good and evil. These codes can also be viewed at times as paradigms because of the way the codes are setup. The idea of good versus evil is apparent in the battle Dexter wages against serial killers. Dexter sets out to kill those, such as the therapist, who are taking advantage of others, or who have actually murdered others as in previous episodes. This raises the question, might Dexter actually be a good person? Although he may only be murdering those who deserve it, he is still committing one of the most gruesome crimes possible with no remorse. Dexter even describes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Faulkner lived from the late 19th century till the mid 20th century and certainly saw the Reconstruction period after the civil war. Could this story s setting be changed to modern day Savannah or another small town in America and still have the same life that A Rose for Emily gives to the readers? Everyone in her town knew her as the sadly single woman who would never leave her house. They often went on to say Poor Emily whenever anything happened to her (Faulkner 82). What I believe to happen is that she never learned to cope with the death of her father then when she found someone to replace her father with she never wanted him to leave. To find out some ways that the normal human copes with the loss of a close family member I looked at the American Psychological Association. According to the APA the normal human copes by talking the death of a family member out with family and reaching out to help others (American Psychological Association). I believe that she dealt with the death of her father by reaching out to fill the void with another being. The obsession that is spoken about in this story is mainly the obsession of love and the past. Emily has caring family that passes and then has a man who deserted her (Faulkner 83). She always wanted to feel loved but would always lose that love. The house she was in represented the love that her father showed. When Homer Barron tries to leave Miss Emily it is implied that she buys the Arsenic from the druggist to kill him. The leading man behind the experiments Elton Mayo developed the study to make further inquiry into what factors affect productivity in the workplace. Ever since the studies were conducted between 1927 and 1933 (Wickstorm Bendix 2000) there has been much speculation of whether or not these results should be used to make a fundamental change in the development of management in society. Stage one of the experiment aimed at examining the effect of changes in working arrangements upon productivity (Gale 2004). During this stage five girls were transferred from the factory floor to a special test room where their output of relays was recorded for over two years, during which a large number of alterations were made to their working conditions (Carey 1967). One of the changes made was to the illumination values in the factory environment. When the light was cut down to .06 of a foot candle the girls maintained their efficiency (Carey 1967). They found that only extremely low illumination caused decreases in levels of production (Broches 2008). According to Carey (1967) the conclusion came as a great Ă©claircissement as the founding s were quite different from what they had expected. The results identified the importance of social satisfactions at work and researches were puzzled to observe that productivity continued to rise regardless of the changes made to the physical working environment. In 1932, Beatrice Warde, an American typographic expert, published an essay The Crystal Goblet , or known as Printing Should Be Invisible , insists on an invisible or transparent typography in order to elevate the printed words. In her essay, Warde adopted a metaphor that the design for typefaces should be as transparent as crystal glass for wine (Warde, 1936, p.6). They both are sans serif typefaces that are universally embraced by different applications. At first glance, they seem extremely similar. But if designers examine the characters in each typeface closely, the differences between them become apparent. Mark Simonson, an American graphic designer, produced an analysis of these two typefaces, showing how much more refined Helvetica than that of Arial (Simonson, 2001). The primary difference between the two is the treatments of their endings. While Helvetica is vertically cut, Arial is slightly angled. For instance, the tail of the a is gently curved in Helvetica, as is the first connection of the bowl to the stem, but not in Arial. Similarly, the top of the t and the ends of the strokes in the C and S are perfectly horizontal in the former, but slightly angled in the latter. Even though the distinguishing details are so tiny that cannot be noticed unless they are scrutinized as Simonson has done. Yet it is these subtleties that constitute Helvetica a finer example of design than Arial, especially for professionals. • 12. Comparing Islam and Christianity Essay Comparing Islam and Christianity Although they share several basic theological ideas, Christianity and Islam differ on countless key characteristics. The most prominent differences include atonement, the identity of God, heaven, view of Jesus, and the perception of the Christian Bible. It is these not so subtle contrasts of thoughts that separate the two most prevalent religions in the world. One of the most important differences in Christianity and Islam is the concept of atonement. In Christianity, Jesus death on the cross allows Christians to repent from their sins and gain forgiveness from God. Conversely, in Islam there is no atonement from sins with Allah, though they still repent and confess their sins. While Christians ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While they share the basic concept of heaven as a final resting place for those who have done their God s will during their time on Earth, the descriptions of heaven vary significantly. Muslims hold a more worldly belief of heaven; a state of perpetual bliss, rewarding Muslims who have lived righteous lives. This blissful heaven fulfils its occupants earthly desires, including rewards such as dozens of virgins awaiting martyrs of Islam. The key difference between these two views of heaven is the nature of their rewards; while Islam provides earthly gifts to deserving Muslims, the Christian heaven provides spiritual satisfaction to those Christians who have maintained the faith. Yet another very important difference between Christianity and Islam is their views of the Christian Bible. The Bible serves as the guide to Christianity, offering aid and advice for daily living as well as describing the acts and life of Jesus. Muslim views of the Bible offer a stark contrast to those of Christianity. The Muslims respect and follow the teachings of the prophets, but agree with the Bible only as far as it ... Sophie was the middle child out of 2 others, Marie Madeline Germain and Angelique Ambroise Germain. She was brought into the world around times when it was frowned upon for women to be educated, not to mention that it was also a revolution year too. Sophie spent most of her time in the house reading in her Father s collection of books. Their eldest and youngest daughters, Marie Madeleine and Angelique Ambroise, were destined for marriage with professional men. However, when the fall of the Bastille in 1789 drove the Germains sensitive middle daughter into hiding in the family library, Marie Sophie s life path diverged from them all. • 17. The Necklace, Mr. Maupassant In The Necklace Mr. Maupassant tells a story of a woman, Mrs. Loisel, who goes through many emotions over the loss of a necklace that ends up being a fake. As she goes through these situations Mr. Maupassant gives examples of literally elements that prove what kind of person she turns out to be. Throughout the story Mrs. Loisel is conflicted with many problems just to realize who she became and how she took advantage of what she already had in her life. When it turns out to be too late she then blames her friend for letting her borrow the necklace instead of taking the responsibility of her selfish life. During the eighteenth century all aspects of western culture was influenced to take over the role of women in society at the time. Women were lead to believe that men were supposed to be the primary householders whom can do anything leaving them dependent to men. Women at the time also had to deal with the struggles of living in social class lifestyles that dreamt of having nothing but luxuries and higher values. Guy De Maupassant s The Necklace portrays this very situation through the character of Mrs. Loisel with the different use of literary devices. She is stuck between wanting to live the lifestyle and learning to live her own without certain delicacies. A point to consider is the use of foreshadowing in Maupassant s The Necklace and how it gives away further events in the story. With foreshadowing, the reader is given clues at the beginning of the story as to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Tolkien, is a children s fantasy novel (though the series The Lord of the Rings that followed its story was more tuned to adults) that was first published in 1937. When it was first released, it received critical acclaim from millions of readers, and it was eventually nominated for the Carnegie Medal and won Best Juvenile Fiction from the New York Herald Tribune. However, despite its success, the most enduring trait of the novel is its connection with readers throughout generations that has inspired countless authors and readers. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... William Morris, who was a 19th century English poet, translator, and creative genius, was a significant figure to Tolkien. In fact, Tolkien desired to write more in Morris romantic style. In particular, a chapter named The Desolation of Smaug was directly influenced by Morris style and ideas (The Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien). Another writer that left an impression on Tolkien was Samuel Rutherford Crockett. His historical novel The Black Douglas and its villain Gilles de Retz inspired The Hobbit s evil character Sauron. It is said the narrative style and even the events in both The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings were influenced by The Black Douglas (Lobdell, Jared C.). The goblins within The Hobbit are closely associated with the goblins in the novel The Princess and the Goblin by George MacDonald. In addition, MacDonald impressed upon Tolkien the role of fantasy in the context of Christianity (J. R. R. Tolkien Encyclopedia: Scholarship and Critical Assessment). Another key influence on The Hobbit is Tolkien s adoration of Norse mythology and Germanic philology. Not only are many myths from Norse mythology adapted into The Hobbit, the names of the characters have a distinct Old Norse feel to them (Rateliff, John D.). And speaking of characters, the dwarves were modeled after ancient Jewish people and their history (Rateliff, John D.). Last but not least, the epic Beowulf was the main inspiration behind the world Tolkien wanted to create. As Tolkien was a respected scholar of Beowulf, The Hobbit was in part a tribute to the epic and a reworking of it (Purtill, Richard ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Linguistic Genius Of Babies Book Review Patricia Kuhl s TED Talk lecture, The Linguistic Genius of Babies, is an overview of how infants as young as six months old are capable of discriminating between the units of all languages equally, but at ten months, infants tend to become better at distinguishing between units of their native language and worse at those of a foreign language. This shows that there is a critical period not just for language acquisition but also for the ability to acquire a second language. Therefore, parents who with for their children to have a bilingual advantage should expose infants to a second language as soon as possible. Noam Chomsky believed that humans are genetically designed with the capacity to learn language. Humans have a system of common rules and properties, called universal grammar, which allows us to learn any world language. It appears that Kuhl s research supports this theory. Kuhl exposed American infants, who had only been previously exposed to English, to Mandarin during the critical period for language acquisition. Babies exposed to both English and Mandarin showed equivalent statistics for language discrimination. The Benefits Of Sleeping On A Problem Essay The Benefits of Sleeping on a Problem Introduction If you re like most people, you have probably been told, when you re struggling with a problem or decision, that it s a good idea to sleep on it. It s something that people say so frequently that it has become something of a clichĂ©. Like most clichĂ©s, though, it turns out that there s some truth to it. In 1865, a German chemist named Friedrich August Kekule von Stradonitz solved a problem that had been puzzling scientists for decades. He published a paper identifying the structure of benzene as a ring of carbon atoms. Years later, when he was giving a talk about how he made his breakthrough discovery, he credited it to a dream he d had. In the dream, he saw an image of a serpent swallowing its own tail, something that is called ouroboros. The symbol dates back to early Indian, Egyptian and Greek mythology. Human beings sometimes wake up with the solution to a complex problem, something they have been wrestling with, clear in their heads. Why does this happen? • 45. The Relevence of Carbon-14 A human skeleton is discovered at a new construction site outside a small town in Nebraska. The remains could be from someone who died within the past 100 years or the past 1000 years or even longer. An archeologist from a local university is called in to examine the remains. He finds evidence that the skeleton may indeed be very old. To determine its age, he uses radiometric dating. Radiometric dating is based on analyzing the amount of carbon 14 in an ancient example of once living substantial, related to what is found in a current sample of active material. The important material on which it is established is that carbon 14 has always been constructed at the same level in the greater atmosphere for all history. An element is radioactive if its atomic nuclei are unstable. The nucleus holds neutrons and protons; the electromagnetic force separates the protons because they have an equivalent charge, but the strong nuclear force pulls the protons and neutrons closer together. A nucleus is only unchanging if it has an even balance of protons and neutrons, or also doesn t have any extra energy. Radiocarbon dating only works on things that were once alive and are now dead. The level of carbon 14 in an artifact reduces by 50% every 5730 years from the moment that the raw material from which the artifact is made no longer is exchanging carbon with he atmosphere, in most cases this is the point of death of the animal or plant. Carbon 14 is produced naturally in the upper ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This defeat proved to the autocracy that Russia had fallen dangerously behind their western neighbors, ultimately making it easy for other countries to attach and invade. At that point, Russia knew it was time for a change and it started with Tsar Alexander II. Alexander II took over as emperor due to his fathers (Nicholas I) death in St. Petersburg. Some say the reason for Russia s backward spiral was because of him. However, in 1855 the reign of Alexander II in Russia began and during his time he directed a period of political and social reforms. Some of the reforms Alexander II thought had to be changed included: education, military, government, and judicial. Even after trying to make multiple changes and reforms to better the government, someone was still not clicking in the Russian government. The main reason the society had so many problems dealt with the peasants. As many soviet historians have claimed, these reforms were put in place to pacify the peasantry in order to ward off revolution. During this time the peasants had to work on their lord owners land and didn t have many other options. While under the new Tsar Alexander II the government ran into a dry wall and needed a way out. Alexander II did something that to this day goes down as two perspectives. The first one can be seen as a charter of freedom ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
