Public relations can take three main forms - press agentry/publicity which is one-way communication aimed at propaganda; public information which disseminates information one-way but values truth; and two-way symmetric communication which aims for mutual understanding between parties. The two-way symmetric model practices formative research to understand attitudes and brings about group understanding. Public relations tools include press releases, conferences, interviews and contributing to the local community to develop goodwill. It also focuses on internal stakeholders like employees and external stakeholders like suppliers and the public who are affected by or can affect the organization. Messages need to be clear, concise and easily understood to gain media interest and readership.
