Legacy Inter-VLAN routing: This is a legacy solution. It does not scale well.
Router-on-a-Stick: This is an acceptable solution for a small- to medium-sized network.
Layer 3 switch using switched virtual interfaces (SVIs): This is the most scalable solution for medium to large organizations.
In computer networking, a single layer-2 network may be partitioned to create multiple distinct
broadcast domains, which are mutually isolated so that packets can only pass between them via one or
more routers; such a domain is referred to as a virtual local area network, virtual LAN or VLAN.
A virtual local area network (VLAN) is a logical group of workstations, servers and network devices that
appear to be on the same LAN despite their geographical distribution. A VLAN allows a network of
computers and users to communicate in a simulated environment as if they exist in a single LAN and are
sharing a single broadcast and multicast domain.

computers and users to communicate in a simulated environment as if they exist in a single LAN and are

This chapter will cover how to configure, manage, and troubleshoot VLANs and
VLAN trunks. It will also examine security considerations and strategies relating
to VLANs and trunks, and best practices for VLAN design.
Enterprise or campus networks are usually large in size and are difficult to manage. Network administrators are required to frequently perform deliberate changes according to the organizational needs. VLANs are broadly used in enterprise or campus networks to improve scalability, flexibility, ease of management, and to reduce broadcast. Therefore it’s providing layer_2 security as it limits the number of the broadcast domains. Nowadays in this fast-growing industrial age, every company needs the speed of data transfer from one network to another network in manufacturing to cope up with the customer’s requirements. The basic objective of our project is to develop a versatile and low-cost INTER-VLAN-ROUTING which can be utilized in any industry or campus to eliminate this problem. INTER VLAN increases the performance of the network by providing flexibility to the users to log in to any network within the same group without changing their IP address. This also reduces complexity and it also cost-effective
The appetite for mobility has never been greater. Driven in large part by the Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) phenomenon and user devotion to smart- phones and tablets, this trend is motivating IT departments to increase their investment in wireless LAN (WLAN) technology. In doing so, enterprises seek to ensure that the user experience of their mobile workforce is seamless and that business applications are available anytime, anywhere, on any device.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

VLAN : Virtual LAN
Computer networks can be segmented into local area networks
(LANs) and wide area networks (WANs). Network devices such
as switches, hubs, bridges, workstations and servers connected
to each other in the same network at a specific location are
generally known as LANs. A LAN is also considered a broadcast
domain.
A broadcast domain is a network segment in which if a device
broadcast a packet then all the devices in the same broadcast
domain will receive it.

VLAN : Virtual LAN
A VLAN allows several networks to work virtually as
one LAN. One of the most beneficial elements of a
VLAN is that it removes latency in the network, which
saves network resources and increases network
efficiency. In addition, VLANs are created to provide
segmentation and assist in issues like security, network
management and scalability. Traffic patterns can also
easily be controlled by using VLANs.
4. Dr. Neelesh Jain 8770193851 Follow me: Youtube/FB : DrNeeleshjain
VLAN : Advantages
● Performance –The network traffic is full of broadcast and multicast. VLAN
reduces the need to send such traffic to unnecessary destination.e.g-If the
traffic is intended for 2 users but as 10 devices are present in the same
broadcast domain therefore all will receive the traffic i.e wastage of
bandwidth but if we make VLANs, then the broadcast or mulicast packet will
go to the intended users only.
● Formation of virtual groups – As there are different departments in every
organisation namely sales, finance etc., VLANs can be very useful in order
to group the devices logically according to their departments.
● Security – In the same network, sensitive data can be broadcast which can
be accessed by the outsider but by creating VLAN, we can control
broadcast domains, set up firewalls, restrict access. Also, VLANs can be
used to inform the network manager of an intrusion. Hence, VLANs greatly
enhance network security.
5. Dr. Neelesh Jain 8770193851 Follow me: Youtube/FB : DrNeeleshjain
VLAN : Advantages
● Flexibility – VLAN provide flexibility to add, remove
the number of host we want.
● Cost reduction – VLANs can be used to create
broadcast domains which eliminate the need for
expensive routers.
● By using Vlan, the number of small size broadcast
domain can be increased which are easy to handle as
compared to a bigger broadcast domain.

VSAN :Virtual Storage Area Network
A virtual storage area network (VSAN) is a logical
partitioning created within a physical storage area
network. This implementation model of a storage
virtualization technique divides and allocates some or
an entire storage area network into one or more logical
SANs to be used by internal or external IT services and
solutions.
7. Dr. Neelesh Jain 8770193851 Follow me: Youtube/FB : DrNeeleshjain
VSAN :Virtual Storage Area Network
n computer networking, a virtual storage area network (VSAN)
is a collection of ports from a set of connected Fibre Channel
switches, that form a virtual fabric. Ports within a single switch
can be partitioned into multiple VSANs, despite sharing hardware
resources. Conversely, multiple switches can join a number of
ports to form a single VSAN. Cisco Systems designed VSANs
modelled after the virtual local area network (VLAN) concept in
Ethernet networking, but applying the idea to a storage area
network.
8. Dr. Neelesh Jain 8770193851 Follow me: Youtube/FB : DrNeeleshjain
BENEFITS OF VSAN
The benefits of VSAN include:
● Performance, since the local server can access data at full speed
and low latency
● Lower infrastructure cost, since there are no networked storage
appliances
● High scalability -- simply put, add more servers and get more
storage
● No boot storms, since OS/app stack images are stored locally
● Unified management -- no storage silo versus server silo
demarcation problems
